It's an AMX. The Javelins were longer through the rear quarter. That's not a gas filler- just a piece of trim. The filler was in the rear, behind the license plate. BTW- I think that's a '68-70.

OT, maybe - it is garbage.  Read in the Seattle Times this morning a "news" story about the whacko who threatened to kill Wash. Senator Patty Murray.  Basically a judge let him out with restrictions on his movements, monitoring bracelet, etc.

Article concluded with a statement to the effect that "He attended a local tea-party rally a few weeks ago, and I hope the prosecutors are keeping an eye on these guys because he isn't the only one talking this way."  Who is this authority speaking out?  The Sheriff?  A judge?  No, it's the local Democratic Party Chairman, the Times' go-to guy for news you can use - if you need to slander Republicans!

my house really needs a deep cleaning (ok, it's nice out, big spring cleaning may get put off for less nice weather)

pick up the beef and hog quarters we still have left out of my mom's deep freeze (that can probably wait too; we're not starving)

take the kids hiking???

78 I'm in Savannah, yawwwl.  Seriously, I'm outside the city in a neighborhood where it seems nearly everyone has blue bird boxes.  As soon as the babies fledge, you clean out the old nest, and usually the parents will come back to begin building a second nest, with the help of their "teenagers".  It's pretty cute to watch the kids carrying pine straw into the box to help.  I know a lady who stands in her backyard and calls the birds, and they'll fly down and eat mealworms out of her hand.  I'm not that patient. 

Hmmm.  Maybe if I sat nearby with a pitcher of margaritas.  That could work.

When my stepsons were in high school, we used to let them borrow our lawnmower to cut the grass at their momma's house.  I can remember going over to retrieve it after about two weeks(!), only to find it in the exact place we dropped it off at, with the grass around it so high you could only see the top part of the handle. 
My kids, on the other hand...my husband, the father of these same boys, set all three of my kids outside to mow and weed eat and rake, no questions asked and no backtalk accepted.  And they did a fine job, a little grumbling and a lot of bargaining ("I'll do the front if you two do the back") but the yard looked good all the time.

When I was a teenager we had some neighbors that lived across the street that would only cut the grass after it got about three feet high and went to seed. You know the kind who's yard looks like the pic that lauraw posted above?

Anyway, during summer break one day, in 95 degree july heat, the father who was basically the neighborhood drunk went outside stinking drunk to start mowing with his electric lawn mower. Well that was during my stoner days so I did what any reasonable kid would do at a time like that and fired up a doobster, sat on the porch with a friend and proceeded to watch the entertainment commence.

The guy starting cussing and sweating bullets off the get go and kept running over the extension cord and using a pair of pliers and some tape to splice it back together. The last time he ran over it, he forgot to unplug it before splicing it, grabbed ahold of the wire with his sweaty hands and shocked the shit out of himself.

I mean, he shocked the shit out of himself, literally, he shit his cut off jean shorts. He got up and ran inside the house with shit running all down the back of his legs cussing all the whole way.

We laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed, oh man did we laugh. The kind of laugh where you're high and just dont give a fuck. We laughed until we almost shit our own shorts.

I am getting ready for another open house tomorrow, and yesterday I signed paperwork to lower my asking price.  Again.

 

I did an extensive remodel on my place, and after living here for 19 years, I'm ready for a change. 

 

I ripped up the carpet, demolished the kitchen, moved walls and put down natural materials such as granite, hardwood, slate, marble, limestone, cork, bamboo, glass, and iron.  I took it from cold and sterile to warm and bold,  from “Early American Bachelor” to “City Cool.”  It took such a long time, and I struggled to get the last few things done, yet I am very proud of the result.  It clearly is “me.”

Pitch, the backsplash is slate, limestone and marble on the bathroom floor, the rest should be clear in the photos.  I ended up doing most of the work myself, thus the long time it took to complete.

During the process, I worked with different artists/craftsmen and learned to appreciate their skill and eye.  Some are well know in the area; the slumped glass artist told me he was working on some pieces for a big hotel in Miami before mine.  Cool.

Funny memory:  I saw the blacksmith who did the vanity frame for me standing in line at a bank, years after we agreed to not work together.  ;-)  He looked at me, trying to place me, I said hello and said he had helped me with my condo.  His face changed instantly as he remembered our differences on what he said it would cost and what he charged me.  It was funny.

I did get to enjoy the finished result, and show it off... It was a big decision to sell, but I'm now ready for another project!

rawmuse, Denver is the same way (at least it used to be), you had to leave a certain dimension of the original dwelling in place—and it was a very small dimension, in order to classify as a remodel. This led to a huge number of really lovely small old brick houses being torn completely down, except for a back window, and in its place huge monstrosities of modern houses were built almost all the way out to the edge of the property line—which they could also do because since it was a “remodel” the old building codes for the edge of the property lines still applied.

 

It completely transformed very lovely neighborhoods and it was very sad to see it happen.

Anyway, I could never keep a place that clean to sell it, every place IÂ’ve sold IÂ’ve already been moved out of. Except the lake house, and then my ex-husband was still living there and he had to keep it clean, not me. It helped that IÂ’d taken half the stuff in the place though. I still canÂ’t believe we managed to sell that house; it had some serious water issues due to the fact that water likes to run downhill. Not to mention butt ugly 70s wallpaper. I guess people will put up with anything in order to live on a lake.

On the leaded glass panels, here's a glimpse of how carried away I got with this remodel: 

I designed the linen closet to have 2 openings for glass.  I go to a Home Show and ask some leaded glass people what they would charge, given the size and number of pieces I expected.  They tell me, I silently say, No Way.  I find a leaded glass school, attend (the graduation piece hangs proudly in mom's dining room.  She's the babe in the photo and I'm the 5 year old stud in my shiny new suit.)

I go to the Seattle library and rip off some Frank Lloyd Wright designs, modify them, design the panels, buy the glass...... and do nothing with it for 2 years.  My excuses are I need more space, a garage, proper venting, a work table, etc.

I go back to the glass studio where I was a student and pay the resident artist twice what I was quote by the other guys.  But I got my design ya-ya's out.  ;-)

I'm headed out for lunch with a friend, but feel like sharing more confessions to my fellow morons:

After the glass panels are designed, I knew I was losing control when I decided to carry out the diamond theme with the iron backsplash, designer sink/faucet and marple drops in the floor.

Not to be outdone, I don't like the way the columns on the island came out (wrong material choice by me and the millshop, after I wanted to copy the unique flutes on the mantel and pay to have some custom blades made up) so I rip them out in anger and redo them myself.

I bought myself a high-end HVLP sprayer and taught myself a new craft with the new doors, base, sills, mantel, lower cabinets.  Great fun.

I admitted to friends I had become obsessed when I had to bring in pulls from Germany to match the curve of the German hood.  That's when they thought I had lost it.

Now you know why I say it was a hard decision to sell, but as Bobby sang,

ItÂ’s a hard road to travel, but I know I gotta keep on trying. 

My friends all talk about me, but I know I can pay them no mind.

226 This weekend: 1) work, 2) sleep 3) Getting the pool up and running, 4) pruning rose bushes, 5) replacing halogen bulbs for the outdoor lighting (only one hardware store in a city of 750K carries them.  So I buy 3.  I get them home, open them up and 2 of 3 are broken in the package.  So I take another 40 minute round trip back to the store for replacements.)

I'm doing this all in reverse order because I really don't feel like working. 

Taxes are done (paid someone to do it).  I only owed $89 because of the $1500 tax credit for replacing my windows.  One nice thing about self-pay is that I don't have to give the blood suckers an interest free loan.  One sucky thing about self-pay is writing a check for multi-1000s every few months.  If everyone had to do this we'd have a tax rebellion lickity split.  Not to mention millions would not comply.  But the bastards know this so they just confiscate it and most of the nobs in this country don't even notice.  "I'm getting a tax refund, woohoo!  Hey, if I give 10% to they guys who did my taxes I can get it right now!"

Taxes are done; paid $2 dollars to the Great State of Mississippi, and am going to get about $1200 of my money back from the Feds and NC. Being dirt-poor does have some nice moments from time to time. Apparently I forgot to check a box saying that my tuition waivers were for a degree the first time through, which was why NC was charging me huge sums for money that was from out of state. Tax codes make no sense.

244 Late to the party as usual, but . . . Hey, it's only 5:45 here in Pacific time, so excuse me for being late.
Spent the morning in a friend's hackerspace/home machine shop, operating a milling machine (Bridgeport type mill) for the for the first time (tho I've spent a lot of time looking over his shoulder and handing him collets/measuring instruments/whatever).
Just got in from breaking up part of the concrete garage apron where I intend to plant a grape vine.  Take my word for it . . . a sixteen-pound sledgehammer is one serious instrument of low-tech destruction.  It breaks the concrete up pretty well, too.

246 Whew! Just got around to reading the posts.  25 this a.m. - so a tad early for gardening - hopefully it will warm up next week.  Got up early, dug 52 - count 'em - holes in the vineyard for a new variety.  Shot some ground squirrels (nasty buggers dig holes - in the wrong places). Fertilized the pasture. Fixed some electric fence. Dragged the wife's arena. Spread some mulch. Whew!  Valu-Rite and tonic in hand.  3 ibuprofen's down the hatch. Lamb-kabobs on the grill. 

247 Yardwork is an excuse for folks to appear busy..trust me on this. Your stupid yard will look exactly the same in a month when the grass/weeds are grown. Your broken bottles, twigs, leaves, asswipe cores, condoms etcetc will be buried in new growth.

248 Went down to the post office and mailed my taxes!!!!!!! In northwest nebraska i set out plants, started indoors, of spinach, red lettuce. iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, chinese cabbage, broccoli. Drove 23 miles to walmart bought some fishing supplies, some new lindy rigs and 1/4 oz weights. and fished from 3 pm to dusk got skunked.... oh well just another day 120 miles from the nearest interstate and 77 miles from the nearest stop light

249 I swept the carport and took all my old dead electronics to the e-waste dump site on the way to lunch and changed a leaking tire when I got back home. That tire took 2 1/2 hours and a half bottle of wine. The lug nuts were so corroded it took an hour to get them off and another hour to use a dremmel tool to grind one of the lug nuts off and grind down what was left of the threads on all the other studs and lug nuts. And then it took another half hour to get the new tire on. I'm sure glad it didn't go flat on the road.

Finished my federal and state taxes (arrgghh), replaced a leaky windshield washer reservoir on the pickup and pulled the boat out of the machine shed.  Need to charge both batteries, reinstall them and install a new fish finder.  Also using acid to dissolve a ring of hard water deposits in the toilet.

On the list for future weekends:

- final sanding of drywall of a remodeling project,

- touch up paint on my car and change oil/filter,

- take the snowblower off the garden tractor and install the mower deck.

251 Must. Hoop. Peonies. They're growing so fast now you can hear them. And must get it done in time to watch the anti-Augusta (not that there's anything wrong with the Masters, or the course)--the Paris-Roubaix. 6 hours, 260 kilometers on a bike. And 53 km of that is on cobblestones--not paved roads as smooth as Augusta's greens. A little rain, we hope, to turn the dust to mud. That's called the "Hell of the North." Masters fans beg, borrow, or steal to walk on the hallowed ground where groundskeepers have manicured every blade of grass. At Paris-Roubaix, the fans are also the groundskeepers: many of them take weekends or vacation days to go dig up and re-lay sectors of cobbles to keep them in suitable condition for the race. The winner's trophy is a rock. The hall of fame is a row of shower cubicles with the champions' names on them. Amen Corner. The Arenberg Trench. Each beautiful in its own way. TV: Versus, 6:00 EDT tomorrow. You won't regret it.

'68-'70 AMX.  Dick Teague's attempt to make a poor man's Corvette out of a Javelin.  It's a shortened Javelin, in other words.  NOT even close to the same as a '74 Javelin.  Didn't have the ugly front fenders...had the sleek, earlier look.

I need clutch pieces out of it.  Let me know - my '69 is immobile until I can find them - I'm NOT putting the Borg Warner automatic back in it.
