— Gabriel Malor The ironically named "Dove World Outreach Center" said it will go forward with its planned 9/11 commemorative Koran-burning, even after the militia group "Right Wing Extreme" decided that a book burning might be a little bit too extreme.
Today General Petraeus gave Pastor Jones an excuse to cancel the event and still save face:
But with about 120,000 U.S. and NATO-led troops still battling al Qaeda and its allies in the Islamic fundamentalist Taliban movement, Petraeus warned that burning Qurans "is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems -- not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community."
And one of his deputies, Lt. Gen. William Caldwell, told CNN's "The Situation Room" that the event "has already stirred up a lot of discussion and concern" among Afghans.
"We very much feel that this can jeopardize the safety of our men and women that are serving over here in the country," said Caldwell, the head of NATO efforts to train Afghan security forces.
Caldwell said American troops "are over here to defend the rights of American citizens, and we're not debating the First Amendment rights that people have." But he added, "What I will tell you is that their very actions will in fact jeopardize the safety of the young men and women who are serving in uniform over here and also undermine the very mission that we're trying to accomplish."
Eesh. When the man leading the fight against the Taliban says you're acting "precisely" like them, it might be time to stop and reevaluate.

But don't you dare notice the huge number of radicals passing through the mosques and Islamic centers.

Doesn't Islam have a flag or something that could be burned in lieu
I believe the flags of Saudi Arabi and other Middle Eastern Countries is considered holy items in Islam as well and offensive to burn.

The flag of Saudi Arabia bears the shahada or Islamic declaration of faith. Because the shahada is considered holy, Saudi Arabia's flag code is extremely strict and even the slightest violation amounts to desecration not only of the flag but also of Islam itself. This has led to several incidents of controversy. In 1994, McDonald's printed carry-out bags bearing the flags of all nations participating in the FIFA World Cup, while Coca-Cola did the same on cans of soda. Because of Saudi outrage, the companies stopped producing those items. Also during the FIFA World Cup, in 2002, Saudi officials protested against printing the flag on a football on the belief that kicking the creed with the foot was totally unacceptable.

I think he means it's precisely the kind of thing the Taliban uses for propaganda purposes ("look how horrible the infidels are!"). Petraeus has seen too much of the Taliban's handiwork to compare them to a crazy American.
While I think the Koran burning is an idiotic, unhelpful stunt, I really wish we would try and get the Islamic world to cut out some of the shit that pisses us off for a change.
I'll be a lot more pissed about Koran burning once Pakistan, Iran, etc stops stoning women to death, hunting down apostates and missionaries, religious apartheid in Saudi Arabia, etc.
Of course, 'outreach' and 'tolerance' only ever goes one way in this world.

It's absurd to assert that this will make a measureable difference to anything. Here we go again - worrying ourselves to death over what a bunch of vile, worthless savages think. Piss on them - the opinion of some Afghan goat herder means less than nothing to me.
I see one potential benefit from publicizing the koran burning party - perhaps it will discourage a few muslims from moving to this country. Let them go to Europe or Canada instead. Anything that makes America less welcoming to the muz is a good thing.

Insurance companies and libraries, to start, need to set up special policies and procedures for dealing with the Quran. It's the only book which, if mishandled, or someone alleges it was mishandled, regularly leads to trials, death or dismemberment.

I am certainly sympathetic to fact that the koran burners aren't helping. What they are doing is provocative and stupid.
At the same time I'm not really comfortable with the idea of lecturing Americans on what they should or should not do because of the way foriegn people may react to it elsewhere. While I understand that Petreaus said he didn't want to inhibit anybody's first amendment rights...by bringing the prestige of his name and position, and the idea of "endangering the troops" into this matter, he has kind of done just that. This same meme could just as easily be used to attack opposition to the ground zero mosque, or opposition to CAIR, etc.

On the other hand, I'd expect the Mohammedan Mouthpiece's administration to jump right into this, and wouldn't be surprised if Petraeus got a little gentle coaching from the White Mosque House.
I wouldn't shed a tear for Korans that get vaporized by our carpet-bombing of terrorist strongholds (what? we're not doing that?), but this smells like needless provocation by some redneck pastor.
Likewise, it gives ammunition to the treasonous fools who want to see the GZ mosque built. They can point their fingers and cry "intolerance!" And, in this case, they'll be right.

I would put a pile of Korans on a big table on a stage next to a can of kerosene. I would say to the assembled crowd:
"These Korans are mine. I bought and paid for them, and they are my personal, private property. I have every right as an American citizen to do with them as I will, and if I chose to do so, I would have every right to douse them with this kerosene and burn them to cinders.
"But I would not do that, because I do not serve a God of blind hatred. To do so would put me on the same level as people like these --"
And then I would fire up the giant video screens to show the ugliness of Islamicist riots around the world over the various "insults to Islam" that the West has allegedly committed. And I would say:
"Unless and until someone can prove to me that these books do not teach people to behave like these mindless mobs of haters and murderers, I will put them someplace safe where their words can do no harm. And if the day comes when the people of the Islamic faith can say that theirs is truly a religion of peace and not of conquest, Holy War and hateful intolerance, then I will gladly donate these books to a Muslim house of worship. I hope that day comes speedily and in our lifetimes."

For nine years troops have been getting killed by the handful on a daily basis because the generals can't figure out a way to beat a 12th century enemy.
But let's ask American citizens not to exercise their rights. That'll help.

Look, this isn't taking place in Afghanistan. It's taking place here, in America. Are we really supposed to stop doing things like this here, because of what others in foreign countries might think?
I mean no disrespect when I say this, but we have an openly gay co-blogger named Gabriel Malor. I'm sure that pissess off someone overseas. Do we ditch Gabe? Hell no.
There are a lot of people who think we should let gays serve openly in the armed forces. Well, I'm sure the taliban would have a few things to say about that. So what? If the arguement is that gays have right to serve openly, do we let a bunch of mideval (sic) theocrats in the mountains of Afghanistan have their way about this?
I mean, when the Army clamped down on soldiers who wanted to proslethize (sic) or hand out Bibles in muslim countries, I could understand that.
But here? What the hell? If somebody burning a Koran here in the U.S. endangers U.S. troops overseas, well, I'm very sorry but that is a extra risk the troops will have to endure. And if some are killed because of this, I'm not blaming the Koran burners. I'm blaming the taliban.
Honestly, to me this seems like a no brainer. No disrespect intended, but I can't see how we could let the taliban dictate what is alowed in terms of free speach here in the U.S.

Petraeus said that burning Korans is precisely the kind of thing that the Taliban uses to recruit and motivate troops. When those nutjobbers down in FL start stoning women to death, throwing acid in young girls faces for learning and dropping walls on gay people then they'll be acting "precisely" like the Taliban.
In any case I think Petraeus and the other military leaders who commented overstepped their bounds. I don't want additional troops to die anymore than anyone else but we also can't kowtow to the delicate sensibilities of dark age savages. It's a pointless, useless, stupid and offensive use of free speech rights but really the problem is not with the idiots down in FL it's with the people who resort to violence when they are offended and Petraeus played into that with his comments. It would be like Eisenhower telling Americans during WWII not to say mean things about Nazi's because they might fight harder.

Imagine, if you will, a Jewish congregation getting together in the late 30's, early 40's and burning a pile of copies of Mein Kampf in a public spectacle. Would we condemn them? I should hope not. Burning the koran is little different - in fact, that vile murder manual is a far more offensive book than Mein Kampf. It is more worthy to go up in smoke. It is the text that demands the muslims murder "the infidel" to the utter last. It is used to justify child molestation and rape. That a single copy should be allowed to exist in paper or electronic form within the borders of the United States is an embarassment.

002.191 Slay them wherever you find them. Drive them out of the places from which they drove you out. Idolatry is more grievous than bloodshed. But do not fight them within the precincts of the Holy Mosque unless they attack you
there; if they attack you put them to the sword. This shall the unbelievers be rewarded.
008.012 I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.
008.060 Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid
unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly.
009.005 So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait
for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
009.123 O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).
047.004 When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly. Then grant them their freedom or take a ransom from them, until war shall lay down her burdens. Thus shall you do. Had God willed, He could Himself have punished them; (but He has ordained it thus) that He might test you, the one by the other.
048.028 He it is Who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the true religion
that He may make it prevail over all the religions; and Allah is enough for a witness.

If someguy said he was going to burn a Koran, and a bunch of Muslims here in America started protesting, saying "that is offensive, why would you want to do something so shocking to us?", I'd be like, OK, that's cool. Speach should be responded to with speach. If there is something being done that you don't like, then by all means, use you first amendment rights.
Just like the Mosque51 have the right to build a mosque, others have the right to peacefully protest.
But they don't have the right to threaten to blow the mosque up or make death threats.
So I understand that burning the Korans is offensive to some. But if death threats are going to be issued to prevent that from happening, then I have a very serious problem with that.

Jesus rebuked the church at Laodicea for doing nothing. “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Too many Christians and too many churches do nothing. They are standing idly by, they are mere spectators. They sit on the sidelines instead of actively participating and working for the good [and some even work against the good by attacking those working for the good]. If good wins, they will join in the celebration though they did nothing to produce the victory. If evil wins, they will complain long and loud though their own apathy [and in some cases actions] helped produce the undesirable result.

The people at al-Qaeda says that the Mosque issue is the best recruitment tool for them. The best place to put a Mosque is at GZ to show how tolerant America is. Any Muslim that bombs that would be hated.BTW, the palce two blocks from GZ is a Gym. People have been wanting to stick it to al-Qaeda so bad but they stuck themselves. Trying to paint the POTUS as a Muslim and then wanting to slam Muslims is stupid. All the Rethugs can do is promote violence.Beck had his I hate Black people and Dr.King march, what did that accomplish? That Beck is a racist that wants to start riots.

Jesus told of a traveler who was robbed, beaten and left half dead. The men who did this were wicked and did a very wicked thing. But the Levite and priest allowed this evil to continue unanswered by doing nothing as they each “passed by on the other side” (Luke 10:31-32). Fortunately for the traveler there was one man, a Samaritan, who was willing to stand up for what was right (Luke 10:33-36).
Jesus warned “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad” (Matt. 12:30). In the fight against evil there is no middle ground, no gray area, no neutrality. Those who are not actively and vigorously fighting against evil are helping evil to triumph.

The strange and wonderful thing is that when the Army went to those camps and offered young American-born internees a chance to prove their loyalty to the United States, a great number of them stepped forward to do so. The Fighting 442nd Infantry Regiment, the "Nisei Brigade," became the most decorated unit of the war and the unit with the highest rate of casualties. They took on challenges other units considered impossible, like the storming of Hill 140 at Castellina in Italy.
When a battalion of the 36th Infantry became lost in the Vosges forests of eastern France, the 442nd was sent to rescue them. The 442nd finally broke through the intense German resistance and rescued 211 members of the "Lost Battalion," but at a cost of 140 Nisei dead and over 1,000 wounded. At the end of the battle, their commanding general John Dahlquist ordered that the entire 442nd assemble for review. He got to the review grounds and yelled at his Lt. Colonel, "I told you to assemble ALL of the men in the unit!" LTC Miller replied, "Sir, these are all that are left."
Where was the Muslim Brigade of volunteers who rushed out post-9/11 to show that Muslims in America had no part in or sympathy for the Al-Qaeda attackers?
Now we're seeing public service announcements from American Muslims who want to assure their countrymen that they don't condone terror or want to kill or convert us all. But it's about nine years too late in coming.

For those who held out hope that the ROE was going to undergo a 'positive transformation' under General Petraeus, you will be disappointed. This is the point where I am suppose to say; 'I told you so'.
The truth is that there is very little satisfaction in a comment like that because in almost every case; the moment has passed. The salient points, the truths, the opportunities for change have usually passed; subtly, unnoticed and the great harm those points might have stopped, will, in this case, most certainly lead to the death of someone's loved one; a cost of arrogance. This morning I got a note from Andy Bostom, a good friend with a passion for the welfare of our troops, with what is now the official release of the good General's assessment of the ROE and his intent. From the story: "Going several steps better, General Petraeus has reportedly expanded the ban on air strikes and artillery fire to all types of buildings, tree-lined areas and hillsides where it is difficult to distinguish who is on the ground." The fact is, not only has he deemed the ROE as proper, he has deemed it not tight enough.
He has even determined that the wearing of Oakley, polycarbonate safety glasses by our American Warriors to be detrimental to the apparent security of the Afghan population. He has directed that all, 'in-country', make great efforts to meet and greet the locals, without the glasses. For those of you who don't know, those glasses use ballistic lenses that protect against the micro-sand famous in desert terrain, shrapnel, flying debris and, oh yeah; intense sunlight.

Posted by: sven10077 at September 06, 2010 07:29 PM (kq1lG)
Yawn. Hiding behind a dead body instead of making an argument. It's pretty low to imply that folks who oppose the Koran-burning approve of Daniel Pearl's death.
I oppose the Koran-burning for a couple reasons. First, it ain't going to make Americans safer. And I'm not talking about pissing off the Taliban. I'm talking about thus-far non-militant Muslims in the Western world. I'd much rather they believe they have more in common with us than with radical Muslims overseas. So things that would push their young, unemployed males into the "kill Americans" camp seem like a stupid idea.
Second, it's not going to convert anyone to Christianity (or at least, away from Islam). Nobody is going to see this act of gleeful destruction as anything other than childish attention-seeking. This is not sharing the Good News. This is a political statement.
Third, (less important than the other too, but still a consideration) as a political statement it is full of fail. As DrewM noted above, the MFM and the Democrats are almost salivating for this. They'll get to slam Christians, the Tea Party, and Republicans at once. It's a three-fer.

Calling Islam a religion is rather absurd if you stop and think about it for a moment. A Chrysler has a transmission component to it but you donÂ’t call a Chrysler a transmission; you call it a car. Likewise, Islam has a religious component to it, but with Islam the religious component is only one of many components [theological, political, social, judicial, military, etc], and NOT the most important component at all as the MOST important component can be summed up as DOMINATION OR ELSE, so Islam should properly be called a Totalitarian System, not a religion. This is so simple. ItÂ’s logic 101.
Nazism, another Totalitarian System, had a religious component to it too, albeit one arguably smaller than Islam, but I have never heard anyone call it a religion. Winston Churchill even equated Islam and Nazism, when in his book The Gathering Storm he equated Hitler's Mein Kampf with Mohammad's Koran. Religion is just a skirt, or burka if you will, that the Totalitarianism that is Islam hides it's evil [women stonings, honor killings, gay hangings, 100 lashes, etc ad nauseam] behind. That skirt should be pulled off. Totalitarianism should not be allowed to hide behind religion.
Back in the 1800's it was Southern culture, almost religion, to have human beings as property. Did those in the North say, "Hey it's their culture, so we most be tolerant of it and any who are not tolerant of it are intolerant bigoted Southernophopes?" Of course they didn't as they were intelligent enough and moral enough not to think that or say that. Why are so many so stupid and/or morally bereft today, such as the schlamiel Bloomberg, when it comes to tolerating Islam, which keeps woman as property, just to mention one of Islam's hideous practices? Abraham Lincoln weeps. Martin Luther King weeps.

Posted by: rawmuse at September 06, 2010 07:22 PM (bTrk5)
Well, good news! The Muslims are also splintered, and unlike the various Christian sects that seem largely to have decided to stop killing each other, the extremist Sunni (and to some extent the extremist Shi'a) are busy bombing fellow Muslims in mosques and marketplaces around the Mideast -- and for them, it IS a war against (the wrong flavor of) Islam.
If the Islamic world ever puts aside its internal differences and REALLY declares war on infidels and unbelievers, then it won't just be the USA they're taking on. They've already significantly pissed off India, Russia and China, all of which have nuclear weapons with which to express their resistance to Islamic domination. And in places like Nigeria, the war between Muslims and Christians is open and ongoing -- it's hard to disentangle that religious conflict from tribal, ethnic and economic conflicts in that country, just like it was hard to disentangle other factors from the religious conflict in Northern Ireland, so we use the shorthand of the sectarian divide to explain the war.

"War is deceit," of course, and only a fool would blindly assume the Taliban would come to the negotiating table in good faith. But there is another aspect of this story to watch carefully: namely, the likelihood of concessions toward a more robust implementation of Sharia law in Afghanistan.
Indeed, Sharia is already enshrined in the Afghan constitution, setting the stage for future conflicts -- the imposition of Islamic law being the fundamental aim of jihad -- and for future human rights abuses that Islamic law upholds as just and sacred. Those include stonings and lashes for adultery, the subjugation of women and unbelievers, and death for apostasy and "blasphemy,"
the last two of which have been high-profile issues in Afghan courts under Karzai.
There is no reason for faith in Karzai to take a stand in the near or distant future, recalling his failure to condemn the practice of stoning, and the disastrous Shi'ite family law, passed under his watch, that legalized marital rape.
And the Sharia-for-"peace" push is already well underway. In August,
Afghanistan's "largest gathering of clerics," meeting to discuss reconciliation with the Taliban, said "the lack of implementation of sharia hodud (punishment)
has cast a negative impact on the peace process."
In other words, surrender and submit for the "peace" of tyranny and oppression, if Sharia could even bring peace, because the next stage after accepting Sharia in principle is an indefinite period of infighting over how much Sharia is
"enough" in practice.
That is where Afghanistan now finds itself. "Karzai sets up council for peace talks with Taliban," from BBC News, September 4:
(From JihadWatch)
And where do our troops find themselves? On the other side of the Earth fighting for tyranny and oppression. I doubt that many enlisted for this. Petraeus has made a pact with the Devil.

What the Leftards don't seem to understand is that while Islam can tolerate making Jews and Christians subservient, second-class citizens, it cannot suffer atheists and polytheists to live. The atheists, agnostics, Secular Humanists, and Wiccans would all be put to the sword under Islam if they refused to submit to belief in Allah and His Prophet (and after all, Islam is the Arabic word for submission).

You all know that they will incinerate us first chance they get, right? That's in their own words, and it doesn't matter a rat's ass what we did or did not do to their holy book, or anything else - it is sufficient in their belief system that we are different from them to make us fit for slaughter, or if they are feeling generous, enslavement.
We need some new ideas folks, because trying to deal with these fanatics as if they were logical isn't working, and is inevitably going to get a bunch of us killed, probably followed immediately thereafter by a whole shitload of them. That "probably" is the rub - it is what emboldens the bad guys and lets the rest kick the can down the road before coming to grips with the consequences of allowing mass murderers to live among them.
One thing that occurs to me is simply demanding that Islam must renounce the right and duty to subjugate / kill unbelievers. That is the root of the problem - it allows the bad people to "sanctify" what they do, and works against any outspoken opposition to them from within their own religion.
I suggest we give them a date by which to renounce both intolerance and violence, country by country, and to demonstrate that such renunciations are real by allowing other religions to evangelize and worship freely within their country. Think of it as forced de-segregation if that helps.
Any state that does not renounce this goes on a list. Call it the burn list. Let it be known that any attack by muslims on the US that results in mass death of Americans will result in the incineration of the burn list. Immediately.
Terrible? What the hell do you think is coming anyway? At least this way we can honestly offer them, and ourselves, a way out.

Burning anything is juvenile and counter-productive. It's what imbecilic college kids do at the G-20.
Why not hold a protest and use their own and actions against them?

The Anti-Defamation League criticized as "dangerous and counterproductive" the Senate testimony of Gen. David Petraeus in which he blamed "insufficient progress" in resolving the ongoing Israeli-Arab conflict as a significant impediment to achieving U.S. goals in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Iran, and for encouraging "anti-American sentiment."

It is up to the Muslims to not go into a rage and blow stuff up because of it.

Just look at them! Holy fucking shit.
Your entire party has been fanning the flames of the Islam Hate-in for a month while our soldiers work their asses off trying to get Muslim soldiers and Muslim police officers to cooperate with them.
All of your candidates are running on this so-called ground-zero Mosque, literally tripping over themselves to protest the Mosque more them the other. A Muslim cab driver is nearly stabbed to death and now this.
This Gabrial Malor Fuckwit tries to act all civilized and above it all as if he has nothing to do with any of this. The commentators above clearly, begrudgingly acknowledge the problem,
You all suck so bad. You are worse for America than lax airport security.
But really? Really! What would anyone expect from party that champions a fuckwit governor who makes up stories about headless bodies in the desert? Just makes it up! Why? you turds salivate over made-up shit.

What's the difference?
First, I'm not sure about this church, but most likely they will be burning English translations which, I am told, aren't real Korans anyway. If it isn't in the original Arabic, it isn't a Koran and is not holy.
Unless the Muslims decide that declaring it holy will gain them political points and pants-wetting among the PC set.
Second, it's wholly symbolic. We live in the digital age. You can burn as many books as you want, it doesn't serve the purpose of destroying information. "Farenheit 451" has not aged well.

Gabriel Malor
OK, don't flame at me Gabe cuz I ain't flaming you.
I just find your arguements unpersuasive.
Look, if a bunch of homosexuals have a gay pride parade, and one of them has a poster saying "Jesus is love" with a picture of Jesus french kissing some guy, that may piss of some young, unemployed Christian male at the scene.
But if that guy then goes and blows up a gay bar during happy hour because he took offense at that poster, well...
I'd say that guy wasn't pushed into violent homophobia. I'd say he was pretty much there already and was just waiting for something to give him an excuse.
Same with your hypothetical young unemployed Muslim males. If this "pushes" them into killing Americans, I'd say they were already lost to the west well before this.

Fascinating. The people who make this argument are forwarding the narrative that something is fundamentally wrong with Islam. Do things to Muslims that people of other faiths don't even notice when done to them, and the Muslims go apeshit and get violent. The extremist Muslims, and the "moderate, peaceful" Muslims too.
The message sounds like "Treat the Muslims special, or there'll be hell to pay."
Fuck that.

You know, there is a way to solve this entire problem Islam has with western civilization. We simply submit to Islam or pay the dhimmi tax and agree to live under Sharia law.
There, see how easy this is? Why all the fuss? No more endless war, no more suicide bombings, it's all good. BTW, this is all Bush's fault.

This is adderssed to amishdude, who mentioned that if it was an english translation of the Koran, it didn't count.
Speaking for myself, I've seen a couple of translations. They had english on one page, and arabic on the other.
I think I only saw one version that was english only.
I'm guessing the english/arabic versions count as authentic Korans. In the Muslim's mind.
For what it's worth, I don't buy the whole "unless you read it in the original arabic, you don't understand it." Usually that seems to be a dishonest debate technique used to discredit someone who is making an uncomfortable point.
For example, if I quote an english version of a Koranic verse that praises Mohammed and Allah, I doubt some Islamic scholar is going to take me to task. HOWEVER, when you quote some english version of a Koranic verse that is embarrassing, all of a sudden the importance of arabic version becomes critical.

To be fair, there are only one or two apocryphal sources for the story of Bibles serving as toilet paper during that siege. But even if that part of the tale isn't completely verifiable, everything else that happened is bad enough:
PA Disrespect for Christian Holy SitesThe PA has shown contempt for certain Christian holy sites, and there has been significant desecration as well. For example, without prior consent of the church, Yasser Arafat decided to turn the Greek Orthodox monastery near the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem into his domicile during his visits to the city.28 On July 5, 1997, the PLO seized Abraham's Oak Russian Holy Trinity Monastery in Hebron, violently evicting monks and nuns.29
After the outbreak of Palestinian violence in September 2000, the PA's Tanzim militia chose the Christian town of Beit Jala to shoot at Jerusalem over other locations from which they could have similarly targeted communities built on land captured in 1967. They specifically positioned themselves in or near Christian homes, hotels, churches (e.g., St. Nicholas), and the Greek Orthodox club, knowing that a slight deviation in Israeli return fire would harm Christian institutions or homes.30
At one point, Andreas Reinecke, head of the German Liaison office to the PA, protested:
I would like to draw your attention in this letter to
a number of incidents which occurred at "Talitakoumi" school in Beit
Jala...which is funded mainly by the Protestant Church in Berlin.
Over the last few days the school staff noticed attempts on the part
of several armed Palestinians to use the school premises and some of
its gardens for their activities. If they succeed in doing this, an
Israeli reaction will be inevitable. This will have a negative impact on
the continuation of the functioning of the school, in which no less
than 1,000 [Christian] Palestinians study....You cannot imagine the kind
of upheaval which will be provoked among the supporters of this school
[in Germany] should they discover that the school premises are used as a
battle ground.31
The most glaring example of PA disregard for the holiness of Christian shrines, however, was the April 2002 takeover of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem by PA forces and their taking over 40 Christian clergy and nuns as hostages. As confirmed by a senior Tanzim commander, Abdullah Abu-Hadid, "The idea was to enter the church in order to create international pressure on Israel....We knew beforehand that there was two years' worth of food for 50 monks. Oil, beans, rice, olives. Good bathrooms and the largest wells in old Bethlehem. You didn't need electricity because there were candles. In the yard they planted vegetables. Everything was there."32
The PA Takeover of the Church of the Nativity
On April 2, 2002, as Israel implemented its Defensive Shield operation to combat the Palestinian terrorist infrastructure, in Bethlehem "a number of terrorists took over St. Mary's Church grounds and...held the priest and a number of nuns there against their will. The terrorists used the Church as a firing position, from which they shot at IDF soldiers in the area. The soldiers did not return fire toward the church when fired upon [emphasis added]. An IDF force, under the command of the Bethlehem area regional commander, entered the Church grounds today without battle, in coordination with its leaders, and evacuated the priest and nuns."33
That same day, "More than 100 Palestinian gunmen...[including] soldiers and policemen, entered the Church of the Nativity on Tuesday, as Israeli troops swept into Bethlehem in an attempt to quell violence by Palestinian suicide bombers and militias."34 The actual number of terrorists was between 150 and 180, among them prominent members of the Fatah Tanzim. As the New York Times put it, "Palestinian gunmen have frequently used the area around the church as a refuge, with the expectation that Israel would try to avoid fighting near the shrine" [emphasis added].35
And in fact this was the case. The commander of the Israeli forces in the area asserted that the IDF would not break into the church itself and would not harm this site holy to Christianity. Israel also deployed more mature and more reserved reserve-duty soldiers in this sensitive situation that militarily called for more agile, standing-army soldiers.36
On the other hand, the Palestinians did not treat it the same way. Not only did they take their weapons with them into the Church of the Nativity and fire, on occasion, from the church, but also reportedly booby-trapped the entrance to the church.37
On April 7, "one of the few priests evacuated from the church told Israeli television yesterday that gunmen had shot their way in, and that the priests, monks and nuns were essentially hostages....The priest declined to call the clergy 'hostages,' but repeatedly said in fluent English: 'We have absolutely no choice. They have guns, we do not.'"38
Christians clearly saw the takeover as a violation of the sanctity of the church. In an interview with CWNews, Archbishop Jean-Louis Tauran, the Vatican's Undersecretary of State and the top foreign-policy official, asserted that "The Palestinians have entered into bilateral agreements [with the Holy See] in which they undertake to maintain and respect the status quo regarding the Christian holy places and the rights of Christian communities. To explain the gravity of the current situation, let me begin with the fact that the occupation of the holy places by armed men is a violation of a long tradition of law that dates back to the Ottoman era. Never before have they been occupied - for such a lengthy time - by armed men."39 On April 14, he reiterated his position in an interview on Vatican Radio.40
On April 24, the Jerusalem Post reported on the damage that the PA forces were causing:
Three Armenian monks, who had been held hostage by
the Palestinian gunmen inside Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity,
managed to flee the church area via a side gate yesterday morning. They
immediately thanked the soldiers for rescuing them.
They told army officers the gunmen had stolen gold and other
property, including crucifixes and prayer books, and had caused
damage....
One of the monks, Narkiss Korasian, later told reporters: "They
stole everything, they opened the doors one by one and stole
everything....They stole our prayer books and four crosses...they didn't
leave anything. Thank you for your help, we will never forget it."
Israeli officials said the monks said the gunmen had also begun beating and attacking clergymen.41
When the siege finally ended, the PA soldiers left the church in terrible condition:
The Palestinian gunmen holed up in the Church of the
Nativity seized church stockpiles of food and "ate like greedy monsters"
until the food ran out, while more than 150 civilians went hungry. They
also guzzled beer, wine, and Johnnie Walker scotch that they found in
priests' quarters, undeterred by the Islamic ban on drinking alcohol.
The indulgence lasted for about two weeks into the 39-day siege, when
the food and drink ran out, according to an account by four Greek
Orthodox priests who were trapped inside for the entire ordeal....
The Orthodox priests and a number of civilians have said the gunmen created a regime of fear.
Even in the Roman Catholic areas of the complex there was evidence
of disregard for religious norms. Catholic priests said that some Bibles
were torn up for toilet paper, and many valuable sacramental objects
were removed. "Palestinians took candelabra, icons and anything that
looked like gold," said a Franciscan, the Rev. Nicholas Marquez from
Mexico.42
A problem that arose during the siege again shows Christian fear of Muslim domination. Two Palestinian gunmen in the church were killed, and the PA wanted to bury them in the basilica. "With two Muslim bodies inside the Church of the Nativity, Christianity could be facing an absolute disaster in Bethlehem," said Canon Andrew White, the special representative of the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Middle East. "It would be catastrophic if two Muslim martyrs were buried in the church. It could lead to a situation like that in Nazareth," he said.43 Only after intensive mediation efforts were plans to bury the bodies inside abandoned.

There are situations where provocations ARE desirable from the POV of a particular party.
If someone can explain why this one is desirable, I'll shut the fuck up.

What is a "non-violent Muslim on the margin"? Specifically, if you are postulating that there are American Muslims who only need a Koran-burning to push them over the edge into mass murder, wouldn't the more apt description be "ticking time-bombs of 'Sudden Jihadi Syndrome'"?

I don't have any idea behind the reasoning for the church to burn the Koran.
But, I will say this. Has anyone thought that maybe the reason could be to show just how tolerant the Muslims are when it comes to their Holy Book? I mean, I don't recall anyone in the US going apeshit crazy and threatening to kill them when we have to watch them burning the Bible, the American Flag, and our Presidents in effigy.
I hear all kinds of shit about how we should be tolerant of them for every freakin' thing they want to do, because, God forbid, we should upset them. Well, sorry, but they piss me off, too, when they gather in the streets in Muslin hellholes and threaten us with beheadings and bombings. Maybe they are the assholes that should learn a little tolerance.

Why not? Because Christians turn the other cheek when they're dissed, that's why. If the Christians in this country wanted to act like Muslims and went about blowing stuff up and beheading opponents every time we felt offended, Piss Christ would have disappeared 10 minutes after it appeared, the building where it was displayed would have been knocked down, and the entire ACLU would have been ground up into compost. In about a week. The only reason lives are at risk now is because radical Muslims are homocidal assholes.

I disagree with the burning they'd get a lot further by reading the damned thing aloud but if my fellow citizens have a bone to pick with islam and they want to burn it they have the right....just like I tolerate the CAIR bears answering questions with regards to 9/11 with "yes the attack was horrible BUT" and not killing them.....
it's called "civilization" bub and it helps in a system like ours to have "equal justice under law"......
The troops that have been there before likely have a lot more trouble with 'take fire three times to be sure they are mad at you" and "sorry no on call tacair because there are buildings nearby" than with a bunch of Floridians exercising their rights.....

Here's why -- watch this PSA made by American Muslims who swear they just want to live peaceful lives as good Americans. Gabe seems to think that some of the people in this video would respond to a Koran-burning by becoming jihadist murderers. Maybe it's worth a Solomonesque or Abrahamesque test of their faith in American freedoms and tolerance to see if they can accept the idea that being American -- Muslim, Christian, Jewish, whatever -- includes accepting the occasional crudeness and hurtfulness that are part of the operation of our basic freedoms.

Technically it was in the 56-page Central Command “Posture Statement” filed by his staff with the Senate Armed Services Committee, but he must have wanted it in there and is certainly responsible for it being there as 56 pages, unlike the 2,500 page ObamasteinCare bill, isn't much to read, so there is not a dimes worth of difference between it being there and him speaking it from his mouth.
The following is part of what was in it and it is basically a Blood Libel against Israel.
" Arab anger over the Palestinian question limits the strength and depth of U.S. partnerships with governments and peoples in the [region] and weakens the legitimacy of moderate regimes in the Arab world. Meanwhile, al-Qaeda and other militant groups exploit that anger to mobilize support. The conflict also gives Iran influence in the Arab world through its clients, Lebanese Hizballah and Hamas….”"
It essentially means that if Israel would just go away, rather like what Dinner Jacket wants, all would be so much better for American troops, America and in the world. No mention of the Koran, of course, as with tool Petraeus it is, "See no Islam, hear no Islam, speak no Islam, know no Islam".

I rather doubt that in the US.
I do believe handing Muslims worldwide A1 grade propaganda on a platter will probably result in some number of Muslims in other countries to take a crack at Americans...particularly those affiliated with various religious organizations relief agencies doing work in countries with any significant Muslim population (ex. Kenya, Ethiopia).
That this is a nominally Christian church doing this isn't going to go unnoticed, and I rather doubt Muslim extremists are particularly nuanced in their recognition of the myriad of different Christian sects and denominations.

And now you want to dictate other people what to do with books they've purchased, because "moderate" Muslims are ready to spring out and murder American soldiers unless their homo-erotic wishes of being cock-sucken by Purple Avenger are fulfilled.

Let's talk about priciples when 'don't burn the Koran or else' becomes 'American women need to wear a burqa or else'. And don't say it's different, because it isn't. These idiots can pick any part of their culture and become hypersensitive because we don't respect it or follow it and drop an 'or else' on us. What then? Worry that we're handing them a propaganda tool and do as they wish? Fuck them. Draw the line in the sand now, and don't budge. This is America, we all put up with a lot of crap we don't like, and that's how it is. That's part of what being free is all about. Now, they were killing American troops long before this Florida church nonsense, so to say that lives will be at risk right NOW because of this controversy is silly. If this church just stuck to Sunday mass and never brought up Koran burning, the Taliban would still be recruiting locals to fight The Great Satan. Giving in to them on this issue will result in zero American lives being saved.

Muslims object to EVERYTHING. South Park episodes (that don't even show Mohammed), Danish Cartoons, Swedish Drawings, films by obscure Dutch film-makers. Anything and everything.
Muslims burn American flags, and don't face (sadly) retaliation by the "American Street." Muslims celebrated 9/11, from the US to Palestinian territories to Pakistan, and faced no retaliation.
Bottom line, ANYTHING will provoke Muslims. ANYTHING. Modern telecommunications makes the Muslim world right next to ours. So we either roll over and become ... Muslims. Or we keep fighting. If we did not have a single military person in Afghanistan or Iraq, we'd have something that would "provoke" Muslims.
The only solution is strength. Frequent and predictable retaliation against Muslim outrages to provide deterrence. Not empty Clintonian missiles, but real retaliation that kills a LOT of those agitating. When Clinton had the US intervening to save Muslims in Bosnia, to the point of war against Serbia, we got ... the Embassy Bombings and planning for 9/11 and the Bojinka Plot and all that.
Muslims respect strength and despise weakness. This includes Domestic Muslims, like Major Hassan, or the Times Square Bomber too. That is all.

Wow. So who burned the Korans that led to the murders of these doctors in Afghanistan?
A propaganda coup? As others have pointed out, anything -- ANYTHING -- people in the West do is twisted into a propaganda coup for Al Qaeda. If the church now calls off its event, it won't be lauded in the Muslim world as having shown sensitivity to Islam -- instead, the Islamicists will declare a great victory in having forced the West to back down once again with their awesome and invincible jihadiness.

Oh, look, it's a whole army of strawman. Did you miss it where I talked about Everybody Draw Mohammed Day? It's not about sensitivity. It's about making smart tradeoffs. EDMD was good politics and good strategy to attack the Islamic threat tactic. Yeah, it pissed some Muslims off. But we got better in exchange.
The Koran-burning, though, doesn't get us anything. It accomplishes nothing except pissing off Muslims. Oh, I suppose it also gives some attention for this particular church, if they want to attract some donations and new members. But, as far as the culture war goes, it's bad for us and good for the radicals. In other words, this is not a smart trade off. As I wrote before, it's stupid and unhelpful.

Read up on who gets picked for the garden variety martyrdom missions. The suicide bombers are very frequently mentally/emotionally handicapped with weak personalities, others are extorted into it via threats to their families.
Yon explored this angle quite a bit in some of his pieces after some of the splodydopes survived, and a few of the extorted ones defected.
These are generally NOT the "normal" people you believe them to be. Of course, the handlers/planners who send them out are a different story.

Look at Japan. It was a country with a wild-eyed fascistic military leadership. I don't think anybody -- even in Japan -- thought they could be a modern economic powerhouse that is comfortable with their own culture. They would have said either the militarism would have stayed or they would have reverted to pre-industrialization or something worse.
Germany and Italy were different inasmuch as the fascist governments were sharp changes with tradition and breaking the leadership would result in something more familiar in Europe.
Islam does need to know how to play well with others and we aren't going to get anywhere if we indulge them like a spoiled child. Say, one who was raised by a bank vice president and sent to private schools...

Convincing them that the rest of us have just as much right to follow our own beliefs as they do is the benefit.

Iran is paying the Taliban $1,000 for each U.S. soldier killed and $6,000 for every U.S. military vehicle destroyed. And, the bounties have nothing to do with some obscure church buring Qurans. Is Iran trying to undermine the very mission that you're trying to accomplish? If so, what's the plan for dealing with them? Thanks...

Nice try at rewriting history. Afghanistan was the war that everyone supported. That country was run by the Taliban, which protected OBL and AQ. There was bipartisan support for this war in Congress and in America and, in Bush's worst days as President, he was getting ragged on over Iraq, not Afghanistan. If you're gonna be a troll, please get the basics right.

Provoking anyone is ALWAYS a "very real" thing, since you never know how they're respond.
I could walk 1/2 mile down the road and utter 3 words to certain groups of young men and stand a better than 50% chance of being shot dead on the spot for exercising free speech. None of the shooters would be Muslim BTW.

Don't worry.
An internet copy of the Koran is a virus.
It begins as a small, unnoticed part of your system. It takes over more and more memory and once it has taken over a sector of your hard drive, the iKoran will destroy it rather than give it back.
It demands that your CPU run programs that it isn't even using and that putting anything in the recycle bin is a desecration of the sacred memory.
It downgrades your system until you're stuck running MS-DOS 5.0 and once it has done all that, the iKoran still refuses to be compatible with any other program.

Posted by: Purple Avengerat September 06, 2010 09:55 PM (8RwbD)
That's right, you never used the word "acceptable." But earlier you did say
Yea, so? Now if this church had some skin in the game, I'd be perfectly fine with it...say something along the lines of if some trooper(s) get whacked and its directly traceable to this, then their families get to burn your church down as a freebie.
Free speech, does NOT, and never has, implied freedom from consequences.
Posted by: Purple Avengerat September 06, 2010 09:26 PM (8RwbD)
I don't think is is either "acceptable" or "perfectly fine" for that Church to get burned down for burning a Koran if some Taliban whacks a U.S. trooper because of it.
Burning a book does not mean someone gets to kill you or burn your place down.
As I said earlier, if some Taliban whacks some U.S. trooper because of this, I hope he gets taken out by a hellfire missile. And if the parents of that troop are the one who push the button, I'm fine with that too.
But the family burning down the Chruch? No way.
Acceptable consequences for this Church burning the Koran include things like protestors, letter writting campaigns, people quitting their memberships, debates, etc. etc. etc.
But burning it? Never.

Of course, I'm sure the police would investigate, and all the machinery of the legal system would leap into action to prosecute the perps.
That's the thing about the whole legal system though -- its REACTIVE when someone kicks your ass in retaliation for something that provoked them. You gotta be dead, injured, etc before it leaps into action on your behalf.
The consequences were already delivered by the time the legal system gets to you.

Oh, great, the New York view of the world, complete with a map with Queens on the outskirts of the frontier a la that famous cover of the New Yorker magazine.
We have thousands of different ethnic groups here.
Thousands, you say? Do they teach math there in the big city?
We all get along pretty well too. We also have 700,000 muslim Americans here in the city limits alone.
That's pretty good with a total population of 8.3 million. I call math on you.
But, you know, there are plenty of people of various ethnicities in Bumblefuck or New Bumblefuck, New Jersey or Pittsbumb, Pennsylvania or anyplace else and I guarantee you that the natives are much more friendly to strangers than they are in New York.
Much more friendly in New York.
In fact, consider which party has nominated two Indian Americans to be governors of southern states, despite Indian Americans being a miniscule portion of the population.
WE were also hit on 9-11. Not you. Not Bumblefuck, Ohio.
No, it was Bumblefuck, Pennsylvania. You may google "Crescent of Embrace" to find out exactly where. But, in fact, we were the ones who were hit on 9-11. The people who were hit on 9-11 in NYC were in the World Trade Center. They were people who worked for a living, not those who live off of checks from daddy to live in their late aunt's rent-controlled apartment.
Most of the midwest doesn't produce all year what we do in a day.
Not anymore. Thanks to the unions. And Obama. Indiana, Ohio and Michigan hardest hit. Don't say "we" when you talk of productivity, son.
But most of all, can you please tell all those rubes in all of those blue and purple states that keep feeding Reid and Pelosi their footsoldiers exactly what you think of them?
Please do continue.

They'll do precisely that. The fuckup was in stating the burning was going to happen at all.
The imbeciles at that church created a win-win scenario for Islam. Sun Tzu would mock them.
Islam historically understands strength and power. Childish taunts such as this burning don't demonstrate any strength on the West's part. It demonstrates impotence and lashing out rather than resolve.
The best the West can ever hope to attain with Islam (absent any significant Islam reform movements to reinterpret the Koran away from literalism) is a general state of ongoing detente, not unlike that which has largely persisted for the past 350 years.
Unless you're prepared for a global genocide of unprecedented proportions to eradicate Islam, this will be as good as it gets.

1) he is relatively anonymous
2) the leftoids, Granola Guardians, and all don't go Jihadi Jim
3) he has a moron mass if need be.....
but seriously PA is basically saying "don't take the risk of ever pissing them off lest we lose their great behavior thus far".....

It won't happen here. There's some statistical analysis that's been done on London districts and incidents with muslims. A particular district needs to be around 10% muslim before they'll feel confident enough to start causing generalized trouble.
The US has been a lot smarter about its muslim population that europe has. Ghettoizing them was precisely the wrong thing to do as it pushed the relative concentrations into the red zone much faster.

The better question is, which will the Islamic ummah choose: a reform movement to turn Islam into a modern religion of peace, or a global genocide of unprecedented proportions to eradicate all those who will not bow to Allah and His Prophet? Detente -- the Arabic word for the Islamic concept is, I believe, hudna -- is not peace, but a chance for the Islamicists to improve their armament and training and military doctrine. Absent the reform of Islam, jihad will come back again and again and again, until it either triumphs or runs out of living believers.

The US has no more business dissing the Ottomans over the Armenians than it does in dissing Germany over Jews (and other groups) or Japan over Nanking, Korea, or (then US Territory) The Philippine Islands.
But then again, unlike Japan and Germany, the Ottoman Empire no longer exists to be dissed.

What Korans were being burned to make 911 a reality? Yeah, lets bash some Christians for being dumb cause they want to burn a book that damn well should be burnt, should be outlawed everywhere on earth. And gosh that book burning is so un-Biblical, so check out Acts 19: 19-20. You know, to General Petreaus and the eager to bash Christians on this thread, no matter what you do to appease Islam, eventually you will have to fight it to a standstill or just submit, and this kissing their ass cause they utter threats and our generals carry their message for them, incredible, Patton is turning over in his grave.
We burn one of their books from Hell, or make cartoons of their murdering pedophile founder and then have to protect under house arrest the cartoonists, do you realize now you are advocating giving up a freedom here in America...because some goat-fucking ignorant bastards say they will get really mad and kill our troops? What is killing our troops, both in Afghanistan and before in Iraq, is gutless politicians that will not go after Iran that makes the IED's, that are now paying $1,000 a head for a dead America soldier. And that was before any burning of the Koran. What is killing our troops is limited warfare with people that will blow up their kids to kill you, what is killing our troops is a fucked up CIC that gave them a termination date for this war. I am just fucking appalled at what I am reading here.
It is now 3 days since Iran whipped a woman 99 times in prison for not wearing a headscarf, and who they are seeking to stone to death. We better fight this goddamn darkness anyway we can, and I will align with anyone that is taking a stand from Gert Wilders to a STUPID redneck A-fucking-merican church that at least is expressing their opinion of this scourge of humanity...1,400 years is enough dammit!

A book is a book which is a bunch of words printed on paper bound together.
For 14th century religionists, that may be blasphemy or heresy but to a non-believer; it's just a book representing a vicious, evil and death dealing religion founded by a pedophiliac megalomaniac 1200 years ago.
For Petraeus to claim that the book burning would put the troops in harms way is like blaming conservative talk show hosts for some nutball that decides to kill people because of their particular delusion.
He should be ashamed of himself for taking this PC stance of blaming anyone other than those doing the actual killing.
Is the book burning ill-advised? Maybe. Will it be responsible for even 1 killing by a Muslim of a non-believer? NO. That Muslim Zealot will be responsible for that death and no other.
The left has long developed this tactic of blaming some third party for the criminal acts of a second party. All in the name of silencing speech and setting up strawmen to be assailed for the crimes committed. (unless of course it's a leftist theme being used as a prop/excuse for a criminal act, then that's different.)
The idea that anyone's speech (unless open advocation) can be responsible for anyone else's violent/criminal act is leftist bullshit and is a slippery slope to actually punishing the act of speech rather than the criminal act itself.

The difference is the jews were never aggressively expansionist about their religion.
That its mostly treated as a religion, rather than an encompasing societal blueprint is one of the differences too.
Islam, while including a "religion", is a LOT more (which has been its historical weakness when in competition with the West). Strict Islam compels a society to waste the productivity of women, and imposes financial strictures that make it uncompetitive with the Western banking and business practices that started to flourish in the 1,600's.
In the long run, strict Islam, like Communism, is its own worst enemy.

I wonder what happens in the not-too-distant and highly possible future when Pakistan's government falls to the Islamicists. Do you suppose that China will find it useful to offer them protection against a potential nuclear strike from India or the USA, in return (say) for a guaranteed end to the Uighur uprising in China's western provinces?
How about the not-at-all-distant and probable future in which Iran announces it has nuclear weapons? Do you think it might well use the threat of a nuclear strike not against well-armed Israel but rather against the weak Gulf Arab states? Would those countries be able to stand up to Iran -- would they have complete and unshakable confidence that President Obama would protect them from even one Iranian missile getting through to their territory, and if not, would they believe in Obama's promise of retaliation to avenge their people's megadeaths, or even care? Or would they hedge their bets and let Iran dictate to them their oil production quotas, and force the Western world into a posture of submission? And would Russia not perhaps choose to offer Iran a guarantee of protection in return (say) for an end to the Islamic rebellion in its southern provinces?
In either scenario -- a Taliban bomb in Pakistan or a Shi'ite bomb in Iran -- Islamic fanaticism would gain a powerful impetus. And either of them is far likelier than an asteroid strike.

Horseshit.
The Old Testament is a political and social blueprint as well as a chronicle of the expansion of the Jewish empire to its height under Solomon. The difference is that the seat of the Jewish empire, Jerusalem, was overrun several times by invaders, and Jews had to learn how to adapt their belief system to continue and survive under various occupiers and imperial powers. And then Jews learned how to adapt and survive in strange lands under all forms of non-Judaic governments.
In other words, Jews learned to add humility their religio-politico-social blueprint. Rather than insist that they could never humble themselves under another people's rule, they learned how to achieve a degree of autonomy in the Jewish community under the thumb of the national ruler.
Next you're going to tell me that the Catholic Church has always been a religion and not an encompassing societal blueprint with aggressively expansionist tendencies.

Read the Old Testament stories of the post-Exodus conquest of Canaan. Some of us Westerners are completely familiar with the literal word of God instructing our ancestors to carry out genocide to the last man, woman, child and beast.
The difference is, we've figured out that the genocide God told our ancestors to carry out may -- may -- have made sense in that time and context, it doesn't apply to the modern day (that is, the period after the fall of the First Temple). God no longer insists that His chosen people act as his strong right arm to annihilate any other group... except, of course, Amalekites. We still have to go after Amalekites wherever we find 'em.

Posted by: pat at September 06, 2010 10:13 PM (Hk8Ye)
Hi rawmuse.
Sorry, we are just approaching this from different perspectives. Honestly, to me, this isn't primarily about the troops.
It's about how we live our lives back here, in the U.S.
Burning the Koran is going to piss some people off. It's a shocking thing. But it is protected by the first amendment.
Now, if this Church was planning on burning the Koran, and everybody limited themselves to just arguing or debating it or doing boycotts and what not, I'd be like, OK, this is all cool. And yeah, I can see some peoples point that the Church is being kinda a dick about this.
But that's not what we're talking about. Everyone for or against this action, is concerned about the violent response to it.
Which as far as I'm concerned, is the real issue. We can't have threats of violence being used to shut this down. Otherwise, it will never end. And eventually, other groups will realize that they are being played for suckers by playing by the polite "rules". And then they'll realize the best way to stamp out stuff that offends them is through violence.
And then we are just in a society where only those strong enough to personally enforce their first amendment rights can exercise them.
Or at least that's how I see it.

When abdul gets a brand new washer dryer or refrigerator (appropriately setup for the 7th century culture extant in most of the Muslim world) or any other of a bunch of neat stuff built for or by us here in the land of the Great Satan, how long before he begins to realize that life is nicer with labor saving devices and his kids are happier and live longer with better hygiene and food preservation.
Then when the stuff breaks down, he's gonna want to replace it but he can't because the culture he lives in is geared to keep him poor and ignorant and can't allow the necessary reforms that would bring his country into the 21st century.
How long before abdul decides enough of this Allah worshipping shit and starts killing the rulers and imams that are being revealed as tyranical satan inspired pricks?
It would also have the side benefit of putting some Americans back to work.

"The good Reverend obviously left his WWJD bracelet on the dresser"
Yeah, I've seen those clever bumper stickers about "who would Jesus bomb?" too. Here's the deal though, we've already been told once how to behave once and my impression is that the Man really doesn't fancy repeating himself much.
A lot of people need to get over that hippy-esque crap that's been projected onto Jesus these past 40 or 50 years. Gonna come back as a lion, not some granola eating free love pastor with long and flowing locks who's gonna make sure everyone plays, everyone wins and all the D's are now B's. Sacks will be twisted.
Doubts? Read the Book, or ask the money changers.

When people say that they have a right to do this, consider the mosque in NYC. they have a right to do that, too.
Stuipd is still stupid, regardless of who is doing it. Just because you have a right to be stupid doesn't mean you should be stupid.

Petreaus in beling politically correct. I don't give a shit what muslims think about our conduct anymore than I care about what the Nazis, Fascist Italians, and Imperialist Japs thought. All Dhimmis can do is get wrapped around the axle over the "sensitivities" of a gutter culture stuck in the perverted philosophy of a 7th century Islamic zealot.
WE ARE AT WAR with a culture that wants to turn the world into a Caliphate and that combines terrorism with its religous doctrine. Obviously, some people think it's okay to take 3000 lives in our country and commit atrocities across the world in the name of "allah", but burning a Koran gets their panties in a wad.
The entire Middle East should be scorched. In the biblical sense.

OK, so everyone agrees intellectually that burning Korans in protest is wrong and creepy to boot, even though emotionally it is a rather satisfying expression of contempt. Macchiavelli gets the last word on the issue with his dictum to do no enemy a slight harm. We should not fire for effect in the war against Islam but shoot to kill. So stop this silly grabass and get to work putting fire on the heads of our Muslim enemies.
The false premise of this entire controversy is that Muslim fanaticism is stoked by our behavior and dependent on us. It's not. Muslims will hate America whatever we do because it is their doctrine to hate us. If we give them no reason, they will make one. up
As Bernard Lewis wrote, Islam's greivance with America is that it is a non-Muslim hyperpower in a world that should be ruled by Islam. When wannabe Sep 11 skyjacker Zacarious Moussaoui was asked by the judge why he wanted to attack America, Moussaoui said because Islam should be the superpower, not America. The reason why Muslims hate us is simple religious bigotry. Dressing such murderous Islamic bigotry up in rational causes and effects is like dressing a camel in an evening gown, tiara, and high heels.

Suppressing the Taliban and al-Qaeda requires one of two things. Either
1) A global war to abolish Islam.
or
2) The cooperation of Moslems.
This Koran-burning stunt would be useful only for 1. Does anyone think it helps with 2?
Defeating the Taliban will be impossible without the support of Afghan informants, Afghan troops, and Afghan community leaders, all of whom are Moslems who risk their lives by supporting us.
I don't see that it is useful to alienate them.

General David Petraeus- King of Kafiristan
Spending our nation's treasure in blood and gold in the fight to deliver the gift of Western values and freedoms to the people of far-off Bactria, while seeking to suppress the same here at home.
