— Gabriel Malor Been watching this fall for two years now:
[R]eflecting a trend that has been going on for more than a year, just 35% of U.S. voters now believe global warming is caused primarily by human activity. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 47% think long-term planetary trends are mostly to blame, down three points from the previous survey in January. Eight percent say there is some other reason, and 10% aren't sure.
But 56% say President Obama still believes that human activity is the main cause of global warming. That's the highest finding on that question since last March. The president went to a United Nations summit in Copenhagen in December in hopes of reaching an international agreement that would limit human activities that some scientists say contribute to global warming.
That puts Obama on the wrong side of yet another issue, particularly since no one is buying his line that crippling American industry will create jobs.

Good point. The fever swamp of popular insanity is always right around 30%, so it's unlikely this number can't go any lower. That means that just about everyone with a brain has already rejected the idea of AGW.

#1.) Well, I guess I agree with him sending the troops to Afghan, but he pissed me off when stalled and them sent less than was requested.
#2.) I agree with his all of a sudden support of Nuke Power, but he pissed me off with all the B.S. during the campaign and over the past year, (i.e. Nuke Power for Iran, but America can pay more for less)
#3.) I agree with the Uptake in Violence in Pakistan with the drones
After a year of pure disappointment, I just can't really much in which i believe he is on the correct side of, even though I'm getting sick and tired viewing my own President as "The first post-American President." I like to give him a chance, but he keeps screwing it up!.....SAD!

just 35% of U.S. voters now believe global warming is caused primarily by human activity.
That does have an element of truth. There may be indeed, a small delta, above the (since earth began) periodic warming/cooling cycles of Gaia, that can be attributed to "man". Unfortunately, these can not be taxed. UHI and land use lead the pack.
OK, there's also the methane factor, that eliminating approx 200 million, sacred, cows of India, might help. Hey! That's man made! They allow these global warmists to continue living.

Warmerists NEED AGW to be real in order to give their lives meaning in the larger context of being the vanguard of the planet's saviors. To them, the failure of the science doesn't mean that the science is wrong, but that it needs deeper exploration -- backed by more fervent belief -- to reach the underlying truth that proves that mankind is the controlling factor in the biosphere's condition and future. The alternative, that humankind is at the mercy of an unthinking, uncaring and implacable Nature, is too horrible for them to comprehend, because it means that at any moment, the Earth can shake humankind off its skin like a dog flinging off its fleas.
(Of course, I am speaking of the garden-variety Warmerists, not the cynical manipulators who know AGW to be a fiction but whose intent has been to use that fiction to start a worldwide cult that would demand an end to capitalist freedoms in the name of ecological survival. Those hucksters will simply move on to the next scam that promises to let them panic the masses into giving them political control.)

The political class and Perfumed Prince's at the Pentagon have decided that American causalities are a small price to pay if they are able to convert the Afghan's into loving America and Americans.
Nonsense! During the Vietnam war, the liberal activists attempted to force the Pentagon into like and similar ROE's, and also the "win their hearts and their minds will follow" mantra which was adopted by the butthead leadership sitting in air conditioned comfort.
The best field commander's had a different idea that worked magic. "Grab them by the balls and their minds will follow." And that we did.
Many have been credited with creating this slogan, but it sure wasn't LBJ as written by many liberal journalists. It's been so long no one knows the true author of this inspiring ditty.

Yeah, the acidification of the oceans. The problem with that one is that is doesn't have anecdotal contact with the public. The genius of the AGW scam is that propagandists can scare-monger during heat waves, and it becomes a plausible idea under public perception.
With the acidification there is no 1st person, coincidental situation in which the average voter will identify with the problem. The ocean thing will follow the route as the ever-shrinking ozone layer, acid rain, or other previous environmental scams.

Then the "green house gas" theory came along, and funny it came up with the same result, and the same solution; only the mechanism was new. It was pretty obvious to me that all along it was a goal (eliminating fossil fuel) in search of an reason.
This is not the end of that quest, they will just have to find another reason to cripple society.

I had a drunken argument with a friends roommate about some giant island of trash in the ocean the size of texas that will destroy the earth for some reason. That could be a good new one.
I saw that on some show. They had footage of it. Certainly didn't look so thick that you could walk across it or anything. I'm not sure how this could cause serious harm to the earth in the long run. If the whole ocean looked like that, yeah, but not some relatively small area.
Here's another thought about that, too. Where did that trash come from? Was it us or some shithole third world country that tosses all their garbage in the ocean? If it's the latter, you'll never hear about it from our media. Only evil whitey could possibly generate the trash to destroy the ocean.
Of course, the last time I saw garbage scows loaded up with crud heading out into the ocean, they were leaving NYC. Looks like the liberals in Manhattan are responsible for using the ocean as a garbage dump.

Hey, I hear that's about the percentage of the US that get their news exclusively from the MSM: exactly the demographic that Keef, Chrissy, Perkette, Charlie, Pinchey and the rest cater to! Their potent combination of ignorance and gullibility is a natural match to the MSM's product.

On Fox tonight: footage showing the Taliban taunting and waving at our Marines, who've been given orders not to shoot. The Taliban have been seen dropping their weapons in ditches, blending in with the local citizenry, and later picking up weapons from hidden caches. Our guys can't fire on them while they're ditching their weapons? What ever happened to shooting the bastards?

Yes it is. Here is a simple experiment.
Stick your tongue to a railroad track when the temperature is below zero.
The warmth of your tongue will cause the track to grab your tongue with thousands of tiny hands because cold it attracted to heat.

The politicians have been making us fight with one hand behind our backs since the Korean War. It's pukeworthy. But this is above and beyond. People die in war. Innocent ones, guilty ones. It's part of what discourages people from making war. The nicer war becomes, the more manners and rules are required, the more wars there'll be. BUT. Their intentions are good.
I just wonder though. If it was me, I'd get together with my buddies and decide our own ROE. You know the commanding officers hate it as much as the troops. I wonder if they all agree to disregard stupid crap that increases the chances of getting killed.

Hey guys, WHAT CAUSES THE SUN TO REVOLVE AROUND THE EARTH??
Maybe if you spent more time answering that question you'd be in a better position to criticize Obama and others who believe in Anthropogenic Global Warming despite there being exactly ZERO credible evidence for it.

Sharrukin,
I'm not a leftist. Your first post (9:33) indicated that you understood the point I was making; but your second post (9:36) indicates that you missed it entirely.
I'll say it more clearly. The question asked in the Rasmussen Poll was, essentially, "What has caused Global Warming?"
This is the same as asking "What causes the Sun to revolve around the Earth?"
The correct answer to the Rasmussen Poll is NOT "Global Warming is not caused by man; it's caused by natural variations"
The correct answer is "There is NO SUCH THING AS GLOBAL WARMING!" (shouted, like that) Followed by slamming down the phone.
I make the point only because there have recently been several posts on AoS that rightly dismiss Anthropogenic Global Warming; BUT STILL accept as a GIVEN that there has been Global Warming in the frst place. You cannot have "Man-Made" Global Warming without ........ you guessed it -- GLOBAL WARMING.
If you believe, as Gabe and Ace apparently do, that there is a credible record of Global Average Temperatures that shows warming (over whatever number of years), then you should present that evidence here or link to it.
Posted by: Uriel at February 16, 2010 05:57 PM (sAdnL)
Well the cooling trend is becoming obvious even to the left, but when people use the term Global Warming they are generally referring to the theory rather than reality. I mean global warming and global cooling are happening, but they have nothing to do with mankind. They have been cycling back and forth for hundreds of millions of years without any assistance from us.
There is in fact global warming (and cooling which we are now experiencing) though... it just has nothing to do with us.
Posted by: sharrukin at February 16, 2010 06:22 PM (593B8)
Uriel, where you coming from?
If there was a Little Ice Age for 300-odd years ending about 1840, and temperatures warmed up since then, obviously there had to have been ...Global Warming.
And if there's never been any Global Warming, where did that two miles of ice go that used to be where my house sits?
Chill.

Sharrukin: There is in fact global warming (and cooling which we are now experiencing) though... it just has nothing to do with us.

effinayright: If there was a Little Ice Age for 300-odd years ending about 1840, and temperatures warmed up since then, obviously there had to have been ...Global Warming.
------------------------------------
Perhaps instead of gratuitious assertions, one of you would like to prove YOUR claim with a record of actual temperatures.
Also, effinayright, I am referring to the 150 years of alleged Global Warming that the IPCC, CRU, NOAA, NASA, etc are relying upon to base their claims. I am not talking about whether or not we are still in an active ice age from 15,000 years ago.
If any of you have a credible temperature record for the past 150 years, and, more specifically the years between 1860 - 1940 (prior to military weather balloons), then I'd like to see it.
