— Gabriel Malor Obama's nominee for the Ninth Circuit, Goodwin Liu, is scheduled for a hearing with Senate Judiciary on Wednesday. Not surprisingly given Obama's other judiciary picks, Liu has made a fetish out of race-based scholarship.
Morgen at Verum Serum has dug up Liu's 2008 appearance on PBS. There's no easy soundbite here, like there was with Justice "Wise Latina" Sotomayor. Liu talks about white guilt and then obscures that issue somewhat by asserting that all modern non-black Americans share responsibility for the "benefit" of the slave trade and must agree to give something up. He suggests, "the seat at Harvard, our segregated neighborhoods, money."
During the Sotomayor confirmation process, Republican Senators led by John Cornyn preferred to hide under their desks rather than be perceived as "mean" to a Latina candidate. Despite all of the evidence we had that she harbors deep racial and gender bias, they couldn't be bothered to make the effort to stop her nomination.
Will they give Liu a pass too?

"all modern Americans share responsibility for the "benefit" of the slave trade and must agree to give something up."
To whom are we to give it? Certainly not to anyone alive ("all modern Americans").

Oh I expect the Republicans in the Senate to totally roll over for this guy. Maybe one or two biting questions, tops. He'll sail through.
Though at the risk of sounding like a jackass, Asians seem to have the hardest time playing the race card, so there's much less of a chance of press going ape like there would have been going after a "wise Latina."

My family suffered dearly in the effort to free all slaves--does that mean that all modern blacks owe me reparations for pain and suffering my ancestors went through? After all, their standard of living would be far worse now had we not succeeded.
BTW--name one ethnic group, race, or whatever you wnat to call it, that HASN'T been victims of slavery at some point in history. Maybe we should stop looking backwards...

They were mostly Krauts from the northern border area of the Roman Empire and some Irish too. Were any of them enslaved? Probably. Then some of 'em eventually came to PA to milk cows, not own slaves.
I sent a letter to Rome looking for my money, but I haven't heard back yet.

White "Caring" Scrunt: "Milwaukee is SO segregated, it's really a shame."
Me: "Rent's pretty cheap down around Capitol and Teutonia--when are you moving there?"
White "Caring" Scrunt: *gasp* "Oh, *I* can't live there, it's not safe."

Good point, if there's anything I would agree to do for reparations, (despite my having absolutely no reason to owe anyone anything at all) it would be to give ANYone who doesn't appreciate what they have here (at least up until this weekend) a one way ticket to whatever country in Africa they wish to light upon.
They will pass this guy along, and it is a tragedy that is continually unfolding since Nov 5th 2008.

How about the blacks in this country whose ancestry does not descend through slavery?
Come from the Caribbean--not American slavery--or directly from Africa after our Civil War.
Try some math. Figure the North had 300,000 dead and, arbitrarily, the same number crippled so that they were never economically productive. Figure that if the average guy lived and produced to sixty and generated, one way or another, over his lifetime, $2000 of surplus. That's $120,000,000 by the time they passed on, say by 1900. Compound that by 4%. That's about $7700 million dollars we don't have on account of the efforts to free the slaves.
(Somebody recheck my math. Substitute your own figures for surplus and ages and what not. A huge number.)
Add in transfer payments.
Who owes whom?

Taylork, I'm in South Philly. I know all about the "brothas and sistas running the city" (former Mayor Street's term, not mine).
I know that commenting on these types of threads are like walking a tightrope.I really, realy try to treat people as I wish to be treated. But it gets tougher every day living with the low-level hostility. And lateley, around here, the level has spiked, witness South Street the other night. My rural and suburban friends always tell me that I'm crazy to stay in the city.....I honestly prefer urban life to the countryside...but it is getting harder to justify staying here, especially with 2 young kids.

Just because she thought that Spanish didn't have adjectives (while she was already at Princeton!) or didn't know the difference between "eminent" and "imminent" doesn't mean that she wasn't qualified to rule on Constitutional language ... Sotomayor has empathy (another word she doesn't undrstand, no doubt) so she doesn't need any language skills.

There is absolutely no legal basis for them, in any way, shape or form. Furthermore, any attempt to create a legal argument for them should be exposed as the racist tactic that it is.
I'd like to see a Congresscritter go after this little guy in hearings when he brings this up. It's would be nice if an eligibility case could make its way to the courts, finally, and get The Precedent tossed out. Sadly, our nation still doesn't have the guts to do that and defend itself. The worry about riots in the cities stands ... even as that is clearly part of America's future, whether The Precedent is tossed out or not. We will just muddle along and be bled to death, with the only hope being that states start to take matters into their own hands and leave.
I wonder if GOP members of the judiciary committee will have the Indonesian Imbecile's own quote about what "radical" really is on the SCOTUS and use that to keep this dipshit bottled up in committee until he dies of old age?
But, once again, this is all no surprise, as the Indonesian Imbecile had said this (and everyone had access to the quote):
"But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn't that radical. It didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, at least as it's been interpreted, and the Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties."
Harvard Law needs to have its accreditation stripped from it and the campus reduced to rubble (with or without the faculty there is of little concern) as that institution has been nothing but a destructive force in our society. They are the absolute scum of the Earth.
While everything that is happening was expected, it is just so unbelievable to actually watch it occur. Like living in the Twilight Zone.

It cost him his life.
He worked for the railroad in Durango and owned a small silver mine. Early in the revolution, Pancho Villa sent a bunch of his bandits down from Chihuahua to kill landowners and anyone who stuck their heads up at the wrong time, not because he expected to further the revolution, but because the expedition would embarass the revolutionary leader in Chihuahua. That gave Villa the opportunity to take over.
My ancestor took a bullet in the gut while at his mine, and died about 2 weeks later, barricaded inside the mine shaft.
I'm sure that this sob story means that I deserve compensation, right Mr. Liu? I could use an influx of cash....and I promise not to use it for eeevil things like guns, ammo and political contributions to conservative causes/candidates. Really, I promise.

This is so much bullshit I can hardly stand it.
My grandfather came here in 1900, a Jew escaping massive religious persecution and pogroms in Poland. He peddled dry goods on the streets of Savannah until he had enough money to open a store. He put his store in the black neighborhood. He hired a black woman to raise my father and uncle after their mother died when they were very young. He sold to blacks when few other white merhchants would. He was called a saint by the blacks and a n&&&er-loving Jew bastard by the whites.
Google "Leo Frank" and find put what happened to Jews in Georgia back in those days. The Klan lynched Jews and torched Jewish businesses all the time.
My father went on to the University of Georgia in 1937. They had quotas for Jews back in those days and he was one of only two admitted. He was picked on, beaten up, and discriminated against regularly throughout college and medical school. He had professors who never called him by his name, calling him Jewboy instead. He had swastikas painted on his dorm room door.
When my dad became a doctor in a small Southern town, he went out of his way to take care of poor black and white folks. He helped black nurses and janitors who worked in the hospital and took care of their kids for free. My family had a housekeeper and paid for one of her children to go to college.
I don't need any Communist law professor telling ME I need to take responsibility for slavery. My ancestors have faced hardship, discrimination, persecution, murder, poverty. They have directly and indirectly helped more black people than this asshole Liu has probably ever met in his life.

Don't all modern blacks owe their freedom to all the whites who sacrificed and died for their freedom?
Does the civil war ring a bell?
When will the black community have a day of thanksgiving for all the white people who died for them. Or for the millions upon millions who have had their earnings raped to create inner city ghettos.
I am not holding my breath.

Remember that Asians generally aren't minorities for AA purposes, or else they'd be in every position available, particularly since we as white westerners have trouble telling a Loatian from a Tibetan. Even then, there aren't vast intelligence differences among general asian populations (who as a group have the highest G scores anyway). The Chinese will take over soon enough without making some of their worst representatives (grievance-mongering liberal American Chinese) our overlords.

To argue that slavery somehow built this country is deeply ignorant and irresponsible. Black chattel slavery was an agrarian phenomenon, largely confined to South of the Mason Dixon line. Sure, Northerners had "house slaves" but it's not like they built pyramids or anything.
My grandfather came from Germany in 1925. My grandmother in 1930. (on my dad's side). My mothers father came from the kingdom of Serbia in that timeframe, with her mother's family coming over shortly before my maternal grandmother was born.
I can honestly and guiltlessly say that slaves had nothing to do with my family's fortunes in this country.

He is a member of the group that pushed the rubber Constitution theory, i.e. judges can rule any way they desire and the written language means anything they think it means.
He also believes it is legal to discriminate racially for the purposes oft achieving quotas. Never mind that the actual law and the real Constitution in plain English forbids this.
I am sure that there are many more examples of things that are wrong with this fool, but the two with the reparations lunacy adequately demonstrate this he is not qualified to enter a courtroom at all as anything more than a spectator.
Indeed, these things illustrate that he should not be allowed on the street without a minder to keep him from playing in traffic and eating dirt.

African Americans are "owed" because of slavery? Pay them. Koreans are "owed" because Margaret Cho tarnished their image? Pay them. Palestinians are "owed" because we supported the Zionist Whatever Thingamathing? Pay them, too.
At that point, we're even.

OT: Victor David Hanson from The Corner
I suppose one could interpret the health care bill as "Pelosi's historic achievement," as the media has been insisting, but that would also mean that an unpopular President and a more unpopular Congress and a most unpopular Speaker together railroaded through an unpopular, sweeping piece of legislation without a single opposition vote, and through the sort of tawdry legislative bribery and procedural gimmicks we haven't seen since the 19th century. So the bill is historic mostly in the minds of the D.C.–New York liberal punditocracy and Democratic stalwarts, for about another seven months, before the people weigh in themselves.
I don't think by year's end too many will call the bill historic; and when the opposition eventually takes over the Congress (and it always does), and its zealots begin to ram through radical, partisan changes, in the manner of Pelosi's precedent, "historic" will be the last adjective we used to look back on March 21 and the role of the Speaker. The means live on; the ends are ephemeral — and Pelosi's conduct tarnished the Congress and will unleash a no-holds-barred reaction when she is out of power that will make historians think very carefully about the real lasting wages of her most unpopular tenure.

I understand exactly what you're saying. But, that sort of thinking is the problem. So long as we are stuck in that mode, we are dead. Fear of the truth is never a good thing. That was my point. If one can talk about which group has the highest average IQ, then one must be willing to talk about which group has the lowest.
The funny/pathetic part is that if you tell a white guy that orientals have higher IQs (in the aggregate) the white just shrugs it off and says, "So what." (BTW, I say "orientals" because the politically correct term "asians" is inaccurate - and was planned to be so, as politically correct things always are - as an Afghani is asian but not oriental).
When truth is diallowed, we get problems like the US is dying from right now.

"As documented in another recent budget office analysis, the federal deficit is already expected to exceed at least $700 billion every year over the next decade, doubling the national debt to more than $20 trillion. By 2020, the federal deficit — the amount the government must borrow to meet its expenses — is projected to be $1.2 trillion, $900 billion of which represents interest on previous debt. The health care legislation would only increase this crushing debt."

The real fallcy here is that slavery is the foundation of prosperity. That's so obviously false it makes my head hurt. Slavery is a drag on prosperity and wealth, not the cause of it. Slavery is millimeters away from Communism, really. People work for a totalitarian master who chooses your education, your career, your medical care, your housing, your food. Everything is chosen for you and you do whatever work you are assigned. It limits productivity, the real cause of wealth and prosperity, and drags an economy down. It's absolute nonsense to say that any wealth or prosperity we have now is a result of a system that is economically destructive.

I'm all for reparations. One hundred fucking percent.
Obamacare won't do it. Pretending there is a bottomless pit of money that's actually worth something won't do it. Destruction of the public education system won't do it. Debauching the currency won't do it. Congressmen happily accepting open bribes with worthless money won't do it.
When they pass Cap 'n Trade, that won't do it either. Neither will amnesty for illegals. We'll all bitch and piss and moan, but nothing our elected officials - every. last. stinking. one. of. them - will effectively change our course from running this country into the ground.
Seizing Reparations will though. I've seen and heard a lot of empty rhetoric about blood in the streets lately, but Reparations would actually make it happen. Unless Republicans can grow some fucking balls and stem the tide by, I dunno, actually sticking to the core principles that define the platforms they barely pay lipservice to, it will take Reparations to make something real happen to fix our broke ass government.
When that day comes, I'll gladly stand on The Mall and begin politely asking every last elected official in that big ass building to exit the building and return to their homestate while ensuring my fully automatic weapon is locked, loaded, and at the carry.

My thinking on this is simple, every Republican who does hide under their desk again gets put on the "Incumbents who need their asses thrown out of office" list.
Now granted, this is getting to be a really big list, but seriously, were never going to get much done if we keep playing nice with these cretins. Just ask yourself a simple question, what happens everytime Israel caves in and gives Palestine something it wants? Same thing that always happens, they take it, demand more and meanwhile the attacks start up again as soon as they can rearm themselves.
Make no mistake folks, the Demcratic party has shown the American people in no uncertain terms they aren't interested in "bi-partisanship" or "the people" all they give a care about is advancing their agenda, regardless of our wishes or how obviously destructive that agenda might be to our lives.
It's time for the Republican party to stop playing this stupid game by their rules, because they'll just keep doing what they always do, if it looks like the Repulican's might win they just change the rules.
How gullible are these asshats anyway? Ok, lets face some facts here. The mainstream media will bash you anytime you don't go along lockstep with the Dem's. Grow a pair and get used to it, because thats not going to change, but understand and begin to recognize that no one of consequence, in fact no one who might be inclined to support you at all listens to the old liberal media anymore, so why do you keep trying to pander to them?
Lets also face the fact that compromising with liberals is just a bad idea all the way around. If they nominate a liberal, out of the mainstream judge and you support that nomination when you nominate someone who is actually going to look at the law and make decisions based on that instead of some woolheaded liberal notion of social justice, they are going to scream and cry and put up every roadblock they can. That's how they play the game, so stop giving them a pass.

I agree, but our immigration system is family-oriented, instead, and I don't see that changing.
I don't disagree with what you have been saying in response to my original question. That's obvious, since I am skirting the issue, myself, well aware of "what is allowed" and what isn't, truth be damned.
And I would say that "oriental" was more of an ethnic classification than a racial one, and it remains more accurate in that, even though it is still somewhat ill-defined. Look, when Brits talk about "asians", they mean Pakistanis, generally. Very few Americans intend that meaning with the same word. But then, as I said, obfuscation and lying has always been the main intention of political correctness. We are, seemingly, stuck with it as a society, because people are just too scared of being called names for making truthful statements or using more accurate terminology.

So since African blacks were the ones that sold their countrymen into slavery, doesn't that mean that American blacks owe reparatons to...themselves?

"...all modern Americans share responsibility for the "benefit" of the slave trade and must agree to give something up."
If that is true then that includes black Americans as well.
If everyone is required to give something up then isn't it easier to just let everyone keep what they have and call it even?
Of course I totally reject his sick arguments and the ideologies that inspire them.
Every time I listen to people like this actually say what they truly think and feel, I get nauseous. It makes my skin crawl.
The purpose of "reparations," as well as other Gramscian schemes, is to turn Americans against each other. Divide and conquer is the name of the game.
We are at war. Our enemies are already among us. They work to unravel the fabric of our society in the name of "improving" it. They sow distrust and hatred wherever they go. Their dream and their goal is a nation that has destroyed itself from within and been replaced with a Marxist prison state.
Sooner or later, they will be held to account. The only question is how much harm we allow them to do in the mean time.

620,000 bodies wasn't enough?
Uncle Facts, they never get "enough". Look at all the swag they've already accumulated over the years--race based quotas, all kinds of grants and scholarships, reduced entrance standards--that just covers education. Then you've got the federally subsidized housing, food, transportation, and health care. Basically they've got cradle to grave entitlements, yet that's still not enough. Even if every "descendent of a slave" is given a generous cash award, it won't be enough. Victocrats are insatiable. They will always come back for more with a new imaginary grievance.

I want reparations from Black Americans for those buffalo soldiers going after some of my kinfolk then.
And I want reparations from myself for my mom's family being all whitey and oppressive against another branch of Mom's family (I guess marriage and a bunch of kids can be seen as part of that oppression too).
I would also like to just call this reparations thing even, because my grandpa came to this country a poor, young Italian immigrant, who got swept up by a padrone whilst scouring the docks looking for some type of work...later to be shackled out in some godforsaken area of WV, a gatling gun trained on him, and one of those oppressed Black people was his billy club wielding foremen (Gramps managed an escape; vowed if he ever met that foreman again he'd cut him and cut him bad). Since Gramps was treated in a rather slave-like and oppressed fashion by a Black guy, I think we should just call that one even...now, where are my $10 worth (1492 value, so adjust for inflation) of trinkets? (I'd ask for $25, but I have to pay reparations to myself, this will settle for the $10, because I'm kind).

240 Well, you know, everybody likes themselves some free stash -- everybody; go ask even a wealthy person if they'd like some free stash; I bet they'll say "sure!". This isn't about wrongs committed, or justice finally being done -- this is about pandering to the global inherent sense of greed.
Sorry, but this burns me. I grew up being called just about every racial/ethnic slur there was (my tormentors had a lot of options)...I got beat up at school and the Klan even burnt a cross on their lawn (because they were drunk, bored, and there weren't any colored-colored people in town...so we had to do, along with the Polish/Jewish family that lived next door to us). Yeah, it wasn't a lot of fun; yeah, I can see where that sort of shit most definitely needs to be stopped and we as a nation need to get over it. No, it doesn't mean you should be allowed to victimize innocent people because once upon a time you were a victim (or your great grandpa was once a victim).
What the hell does this have to do with "move on"? I can't see how this helps the country -- but I guess that's the point.

What about Black immigrants ? The slave trade occured because West African slaveowners unloaded their undesireables ( considered by them)for a bottle of rum.
