The GOProud ad targets Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, and Democrats in general.

Apparently some folks are pissy that they called Frank "catty", as if suddenly that's a gay slur or something.

1 I'm glad they're getting involved. But the ad sucks. Nothing in it is effective or hard-hitting. And all of those soundbites are only outrageous if there's context. Not standing on their own.

2 For example, Boxer's comments themselves aren't too bad. It's only when you realize she's talking to a brigadier general does it get ridiculous. But we don't see that.

3 Its okay, but not as hard-hitting as it could be. It should have been a little more longer and put the various clips into a bit more context for the people not familiar with them.

13 MikeInBA: Yeah, that seemed a bit over the top. But in this day and age, trying to bum-rush a political figure is going to get you an ass-beating, either from the crowd or from the cops. She might have had a gun -- who's to say? "Oh, but you're excusing violence!" I can hear people crying. In this case...maybe. The examples of Sirhan Sirhan, Squeaky Fromme, and John Hinckley still lurk. As a citizen, I consider it my duty to stop a potential attacker before he or she can do any harm. She's alive and unhurt, and potentially a bit wiser - I consider that a good outcome.

I am taking off election day to make calls.

I've never been involved before because I didn't know who to call. So i went to Toomey's website, clicked a link, filled in my name and phone number and got a phone call.

It was easy. I will let you know how it goes tonight as this will be my first time phone banking.

We not only need Toomey and Corbett to win, but we also need to flip all of the open House seats, and almost as imporant is the Pennsylvania Legistlature because redistricting is in this upcoming session of State congress. If we get enough R's in the Legislature and Corbett in the governorship then we might be able to undo insanely gerrymandered districts like the PA-12.

Matheson voted against TARP, I think, but he seems to be an anti-nuke eco-nut.

I'm still getting the hang of politics here, but from what I can tell Matheson played it smart on his fiscal votes. His district includes the U of Utah area in Salt Lake City, so it's a more mixed district. He's running two types of ads (prior to this negative one): one which touts his eco stances, including a lot about nuke stuff, and another that claims he's a fiscal conservative.

Although Utah is super-red, as I understand it, Bennett (junior outgoing senator) got nuked because of his betrayal on TARP, and he got nuked in the R primary, whereas this guy Matheson did not make that mistake, plus the expectations for him are different since he's a D anyway.

I would be surprised if Philpot wins, but I am surprised to see Matheson go negative. I wouldn't think he'd have to.

30 The ad is silly -- GOProud is not known enough, by gays or straights, for them to have bothered. Sure, it's another attack ad, off the shelf for a hundred Republican groups -- but what does it have to do with gay folks? Nothing. The better ad would have been two men walking, holding hands, discussing the destruction of the American economy by the Democrats, and their taxes being too high, and then then saying something like "You know, I think it's time for gay folks to abandon the Democratic party and vote for our pocketbooks" Then have one of the gay men put his "man bag" down on a tax bill at their business they just opened for the day. Now that would be an attack ad I could take. That would be an ad trying to peel gays from the Democrats. That would be something GOProud could be proud to have actually run. And it could have been targeted to Pelosi, Frank, Waxman, etc districts, with plenty of gay constituents feeling the same pain as straight America. And the TV stations there might actually have been willing to let those ads run - or they'd start the stink once again -- on how gay folks can't even advertise gay things -- at least not openly, and not even political opinion -- on the public airwaves. Now that might disabuse the notion that the leftist media is pro-gay, as is held by the right side, and the left would have to speak up about tolerance for an ad targeted at them. I could go on & on for the positives of such an out-of-the-closet ad, and potential refusal to be run, would have. But the mush they put together? Oh please. Is there no strategic thinking among gay Republicans? hmm, apparently not.

36 I thought the ad was fabulous. It's not playing to older people, it was made for the 20 somethings and thirty somethings who have grown up watching these reality programs. They won't realize that they are watching this until its over and that's why its such a good ad cause they know tech and easily filter out political commercials but this will get their curiosity. I think its hitting a demographic that the republicans don't know how to reach, independent twenty or thirty somethings who vote cause they know they have to vote and get their news in soundbites and from colbert and stewart.

All my friends who are gay aren't so thrilled with bawney...they almost feel he sets gayness back a hundred years. One of my friends rolled his eyes the other night and said "he's the gloria alred of gayness" and it wasn't meant in a complimentary way. Just like good hardworking attorneys cringe when they see her on the screen so normal gay people cringe when they see him on the screen. This is why all the gay people I know love the gay couple on Modern Family, it speaks more to real life, more to the "hey look at us, we are the guys/gals next door, your friend from work or college"...."we aren't using our gayness to get ahead or somehow keep our Senate seat, we are just living our lives and making them as normal as we can"
