Graphic Image: The Missouri Vote, County-By-County
— Ace

D'oh!

From Michael Tanner, at The Corner:

According to preliminary results, just under 668,000 Missourians voted in favor of Proposition C. Only 578,000 Republicans voted in their party’s primaries. Another 40,000 voters appear to have cast votes on Proposition C without voting in either the Republican or Democratic primaries. So, even if you assume that every single Republican voted for the initiative and every person who didn’t vote in a primary voted for it, at least 40,000 Democrats — more than one in every eight Democratic primary voters — voted against the centerpiece of President Obama’s health-care plan. And these aren’t just any registered Democrats; these are the party activists, the Democratic base.

Thanks to Tami for that.

Not in MO, but I know that the Dems didn't mount a big effort because there was bitching by activists going into the vote that they were out of pocket on all expenses regarding their efforts.

39 From NRO: Michael Tanner

There will be a lot written today about Missouri votersÂ’ overwhelming approval of Proposition C, a repudiation of ObamacareÂ’s individual mandate. But the results may be even more devastating for the Democrats than initially thought.

Do we need any more evidence of how unpopular this bill is?

42 The vote in Missouri demonstrates what we have been saying, what Missouri has said, what our country has said. What Arizona has said.

This is no longer a government of the people, by the people. This is an oligarchy telling the subjects what they can do. And what they can spend their money on.

Not surprised at St. Louis or KC.  Fucking welfare cities. They lick the chains that bind them.

54 It's not stupidity phoenixgirl. It is cynical strategy. Taxes are raised to pay for a thousand stupid things that could be cut with no impact to the public at large, while balancing the budget.

Bureaucracies exist to feed themselves, regardless of their nominal principles.

The only way to keep the tax dollars coming in for the least important of bureaucracies is to threaten to cut the most important. Occasionally the most important cuts have to be made to show us 'proles that they mean business.

The funny part is that, in every poll about it that I've ever seen, Americans tend to be very sympathetic with the idea that The Precedent is ineligible.  Even those who think that the Indonesian Imbecile is Constitutionally eligible, the majority think that there is no earthly reason why the fool shouldn't be forced to release lots of basic information, including the most basic, especially now that he is safely ensconced in the Oval Office, anyway.

The MFM (and many others) thinks that the eligibility argument hurts conservatives, but it doesn't.  Most Americans don't understand how someone can occupy the highest office in the land without having to provide the minimal proof that he is eligible.

OT: Gates and Buffet announced that they are encouraging billionaires to give half of their money to charity.  Not to uncle Sam (they only want Uncle Sam to confiscate everyone else's money) but to private charities ... like Bill Gates' own pathetic charity, perhaps.

I really hate these people.  With a passion.

I am so there with you.  I hate Bill Gates Sr. (Bill's dad) even more.  This douchebag is shilling for a state income tax "on the rich".  We get to vote for it.  I'm sure the idiots in King, Pierce and Snohomish (the most populous in WA) will screw the rest of the state.  This will be on top of our sales tax which in my county is almost 10%.

96 Hell, Prop C. even carried by double digits in St. Louis County, which is a D leaning suburban  county of St. Louis City

I don't know that I'd agree with that part.  The county as a whole has blacker sections, affluent sections, working-class sections.  I've lived here my whole life and have never seen a clear lean to either side on any consistent basis.

98 Well, I was in my county's local RNC headquarters yesterday and some democrats were coming in and asking the volunteers if Prop C was on the democrat primary ballot because they intended to vote yes on it.

Posted by: Ginger at August 04, 2010 08:56 AM (MMgnj)

101 I was making phone calls on it in the week leading up to the election, and I never talked to one person who knew Prop C existed.  And we were only calling people who voted in primary elections, supposedly our most informed electorate.

In addition, the ballot language was *terrible*. While I was at the polling station, one of my neighbors asked me which was was the vote against Obamacare, yes or no.

Carnahan got to write the language and it was nearly incomprehensible.

108 This was originally supposed to be on the November ballot, but the libs decided to put it on the primary ballot thinking not a lot of people would not come out to vote thus the measure would be defeated. I have one thing to say, "Ha fucking ha ha" and "How does my ass taste?!!!"

Posted by: Ginger at August 04, 2010 09:00 AM (MMgnj)

109 Anyone go to that link and notice the name at the top? Secretary of State, and Senate candidate Robin Carnahan.  I hope the people of MO realize that she, like McCaskill, would have voted for that bill and don't give her a seat in the Senate.

Posted by: Matt at August 04, 2010 09:00 AM (4z2dt)

110 What worries me is the prospect of this piece of the legislation -- the mandatory purchasing of insurance -- being the only piece of Obamacare that is shot down.  Having a bunch of additional regulations but not the mandatory buy in will effectively kill the insurance industry, because there's no way they will be able to afford to operate having to serve more people with less capital.  Then you will have a bunch of leftists saying, "We told you so!  Capitalism doesn't work, we need single-payer universal socialist medicine!"

The results in MO are great, but the total repeal of Obamacare is the only thing that will give capitalism a chance to survive as far as health care goes.

I'm sure that was done on purpose.  That can help the Dem's legal challenge--people voted the wrong way because they didn't understand.  I'm having a "Butterfly Ballot" flashback.  The Democrat woman who designed that had to go into hiding because she received so many death threat from our preachers of peace and tolerance.

nickless-

I've lived in the county all my life also, (I'm 50), and I'd have to say that it's gotten bluer over the last 35 yrs.  Chalk that up to the depopulation of north st louis.  It was solidly rep till roughly 1980-85, Roos & McNary.  Then there was the PD flogged prostitution scandal (George Peach), and since then, reps have lost their mojo.  Combine that with the large influx of n stl blacks, and what you get is a blue (ish) stl county, and a booming red st charles county.

On the bright side, 30% of zero is still zero.  Because I gotta tell you, I never saw a single cop outside of a strip club, bar, or casino in all my time in that third-world hellhole.

That place should be turned into an artillery range without further delay.  Or notice.

JJ, I'm just guessin', but if you take that part out of Obamacare, doesn't the whole thing pretty much unravel from there? I assume it's not a well-engineered, modular piece of legislation.
