After President George W. Bush won a second term, the press sulked in defeat. To assuage their disappointment, they tried to find any excuse to snipe at the re-elected president and eagerly seized on the price tag of the inauguration. Take it away, Will Lester:
President BushÂ’s second inauguration will cost tens of millions of dollars — $40 million alone in private donations for the balls, parade and other invitation-only parties. With that kind of money, what could you buy?Now fast-forward a few years. The new president, Barack Obama, is welcoming the president of Mexico to the United States. A state dinner should be a formal, celebratory affair. But, given the recession, should it be an extravagant one?■ 200 armored Humvees with the best armor for troops in Iraq.
■ Vaccinations and preventive health care for 22 million children in regions devastated by the tsunami.
■ A down payment on the nationÂ’s deficit, which hit a record-breaking $412 billion last year....
The questions have come from Bush supporters and opponents: Do we need to spend this money on what seems so extravagant?
Of course state dinners are supposed to be special. But where the Obama/Calderon affair really hit the heights was in the festivities after the dinner, which took place in a huge tent — the word “tent” doesn’t quite do it justice — set up on the South lawn. As the AP reported:Please note the descriptive and decidedly non-judgmental tone the Associated Press takes in reporting on the Obama state dinner/nightclub party."R&B diva Beyonce topped the entertainment bill for the dinner, taking place in the East Room of the White House, with the action later moving to a luxury marquee on the South Lawn of the presidential mansion. The marquee, the size of two-thirds of a football field, decked out in elaborate black decor and nightclub-style lighting, featured a stage and baskets of flowers and models of Monarch butterflies dangling from the ceiling."
Despite what the Obama administration may claim, this country is in the midst or tail-end of a rather severe recession. There are a lot of people out of work who have to deny themselves much smaller luxuries than the Obamas gave themselves a few evenings ago. Those of us who are employed see a president who has already spent too much for policy spending only for his own pleasure, and we know who is ultimately paying for his parties. Obama doesn't seem to realize, or more likely care, that our hard work pays for his ability to eat Wagyu beef and set up a nightclub on the White House lawn.
The extravagance of the Obamas is bad, but what's almost worse is the double standards of a press corps who only seem capable of outrage when a Republican president is in office. Their unwillingness to highlight or criticize the Obamas for behavior that horrified them when Bush was in office is not surprising, but it is pathetic and infuriating.

Kratos, it was great, thanks for asking. We had a delicious meal at a great restaurant not too far from home. It's owner/head chef is a Vietnamese immigrant who came to the U.S. for the American dream. She is an incredibly hard worker and a wonderful chef. It's a very small, intimate place, and the service is incredible and the food was delish. We had a mad dash to the car afterwards because there was this horrible, intense downpour of rain. Unfortunately, I was running in a dress and shoes that weren't made for sprinting!

Contrast the treatment of Netanyahu.... A small price to pay in building Barry's new international order (or whatever the "F" he said in his West Point Speech). In his goal of remaking the U.S. a banana republic in a world remade like Chicago... And yes, wouldn't it be nice if the press did some actual reporting and dug up the grand total with all the cost breakdowns? You'd better believe if Sarah Palin were in office and she threw a party 1/10 of the grandeur of this one, reporters would be combing the White House trash for shredded receipts and painstakingly piecing them back together. Unbelievable.

true, but the demographic that won it for him was Independents, if only Independents had voted, he would have had a Reagan landslide victory w/ states like North & South Dakota, Montana, & Even Nebraska going blue
plus the republican base gave us our worst turnout since 1996
w/ all of that, Obama still got a modest 53% of the vote, and when you factor out 3rd parties, 52% of the vote

All progressives (read socialists) are gearing towards a world-wide 2 class society.
In their vision, 98% of the world will be slaves of one sort or another, creating wealth to be confiscated by the state.
They and their progeny will never feel the bite of scarcity.
As long as your kid gets into Harvard, Princeton, or Yale, sonny boy will be set up to get a government gig that works to impoverish and demoralize the hoi polloi.
That is the point.
And I have more to say... but comments system wants to put everything in Italics.

I don't mean that ironically or with any sort of special emphasis.
It really was meant as a general sort of non-italicized sort of exclamation.

Yeah, you would have thought those imbeciles in congress would have sat on their hands instead of giving Senor Wences a standing O. It just goes to show you what Democrats think of the will of the people (as also evidenced by their ramming through the health care "reform" bill). they also think George W Bush was the worst President ever and that Carter was really the one behind the boom under Reagan and that Clinton's tax hikes, not his politician cooperation with Republicans was what lead to the boom under him
they also claim Bush stole the 2000 and 2004 elections and that Reagan had some deal with Iran to get him elected in 1980, they also think the tax the rich plan that has a 0% success rate is the most awesome strategy to economic recovery if they "just do it right this time around"

Yeah, finding it hard to muster sympathy for them.Hiking near a border with Iran or North Korea is like playing Russian roulette.
I've pretty much come to the conclusion that they purposefully went to Iran. They wanted to let the Iranians know that America had changed, that evil bastard, Bush was gone, and in his place, an all loving, all caring Barak Obama was setting a new tone for peace. I think they were arrogantly stupid. I don't feel sorry for them at all. It's called cosmic karma, baby! Stupid America haters got what's coming to them. They were warned by an Iraqi border guard that the border was unmarked and told not to go.

That's 4 tens of $millions right there. Private donations, during what was thought to be good economic times. Not the same as partying with IRS coerced taxes during the Great Recession at all though.
Does Associated Press comprehend the difference?

I generally prefer that socking be restricted to major political figures; if socking a blogger, I corrupt his name (e.g. "Churlz Junshun") so that we all know that the guy didn't really show up to post something stupid.
But I don't make the rules; I just annoy the people who do

Oh, I missed the part up thread where your post was changed so I don't know anything about that (I didn't see what you had posted). I just thought we were supposed to avoid Allah(pundit)'s nick so that's all my point was... although I'm not sure about that even - perhaps it is just "allah" not "allahpundit".

>>Yeah, it is usually a bad idea to
piss off the help before they serve your food...Posted by: Rat Patrol
True dat. Did you see the one that escaped the kitchen for the Rose Garden?
Steps we took that night..
Step 1.
Pick some big, juicy rats. Big rats are pretty easy to find, just check the basements of any old building. If having a hard time catching the rats, you can employ the service of a kitteh. For a fee of one can of 50 cent cat food a day, the kitteh , if a good kitteh, will keep you stocked with all the fuzzy, white, rodents you want. Hey, kitteh's are even known to go the extra step and put the rat on your pillow or door step. HowÂ’s that for service.
Step 2.
Remove the fuzzy from the rat. Yes, you must take a torch, or small flame thrower to the white rodent to burn off the fur. If you skip this step, you may be pulling little white hairs out of your teeth instead of enjoying the meal.
Step 3.
Wash the rat very well with warm waterÂ… give the rat a long needed bath (*note, this step may be skipped if the rat had a bath before execution)
Step 4.
Chop up the rat and season to taste. A pinch of salt (sea salt is best), a teaspoon of pepper and a bit of crushed garlic is all you need. You can also throw in some greens and a pepper for some added flavor.
Last Step - Cooking the rat
Roast in an oven on 350 for 20 minutes. For a crispier rat, roast at 400 - and there you have it. A rat drumstick, finger licking good. Rat- the other white meatÂ… Who would have thunk it. Now who knew that end the end of this great party Mr. President YOU threw, you would end up with rat meat that you can almost pass off as chicken!
*snort*

Well, that was a dumb one - even though submitted by mail I got a door-knocker survey and informed the nice lady that every member of my household is "hispanic", as are most US Citizens; and, noting your own census surveys illustrates 'race' as nation of origin, our race is American. After about a 45 minute history lesson she checked the boxes and moved on.

I'm happy for Calderón in the sense that he squeaked out a victory of a Chávez clone --we could have much, much worse a leader south of us 0bama could be pandering to-- but you gotta hand it to Mexico: unlike with the USA, politics really does stop at the border, and the consistent policy of using the USA to ease Mexico's policy and even get some remittances as gravy stays true regardless of who is in power there. Easy for these assholes in their ivory towers not to worry about illegal immigration: the Mexican peasants are just pawns to both ruling parties.

We now also know that the majority of the US press is also our enemy, lending aid and material support to the dems. The press has not only failed miserably in their sacred duty to watch and yes, even protect us, from those who would abuse their political power. They have abandoned objectivity in favor of ideology and have abused the power and protection granted to them by the Constitution to influence public opinion, and to run interference for corrupt and evil people who happen to share their ideology.
My question is this: How do we get rid of the MFM?

HONOLULU – Republicans believe they are on the cusp of taking control of a congressional seat in President Barack Obama's hometown in a special election Saturday that represents the latest battleground in the fight for control of Congress in the midterm races.
Republican Charles Djou is favored to win the seat, and a victory would be an embarrassment to Democrats locally and nationally given that Obama was born in the district and spent most of his childhood here. It also is in a state that gave Obama 72 percent of the vote two years ago and where he remains quite popular.
If Djou wins watch how fast this story gets buried. Of course AP must note that Barry is just super duper popular

I would seriously like to see a list of the traitors that applauded Calderone, so I can join with others in working like a mofo to make sure not a one of them makes it past their next election.
You know, it should be a point of honor with conservatives.
