Greek Teabaggers Riot Over ObamaCare, Killing Three
— Ace

A riot cop falls in flame, hit by a Molotov cocktail

Video of these damn Teabaggers at the link.

They were protesting ObamaCare, illegal immigrants in Arizona, the impending loss of a white majority in the United States, and also, as a secondary matter, austerity measures forced upon the profligate nation as part of its bailout package.

Deadly riots over new austerity measures engulfed the streets of Athens on Wednesday, and three people were killed as angry protesters tried to storm parliament, hurled Molotov cocktails at police and torched buildings.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets as part of nationwide strikes to protest new taxes and government spending cuts demanded by the International Monetary Fund and other European nations before heavily indebted Greece gets a euro110 billion ($141 billion) bailout package of loans to keep it from defaulting.

Three people died after being trapped in a burning bank along the main demonstration route in central Athens—the first deaths during a protest in Greece since 1991, when four people trapped in a burning office building were killed. Another five were rescued.

“A demonstration is one thing and murder is quite another,” Prime Minister George Papandreou thundered in Parliament during a session to discuss the spending cuts he announced Sunday. "We need to get these lunatic right-wing Tea-Bags to stop using incendiary language, and also, possibly, incendiary bombs."

I may have added that last sentence.

Thanks to Dr. Spank.

2 I wonder if the bombs were hurled by people who really think that's going to keep the checks flowing, or by people who like to bomb things and found the strike a convenient excuse. Like those "anarchists" in Santa Cruz.

I have never understood why Molotov cocktails are not met with machine gun fire, or artillery.

Bear in mind that in Greece (as here), the cops are unionized and are largely in sympathy with the rioters. The riot cops aren't happy being pelted with gas-bombs, I'm sure, but they're not likely to open fire. Given a small push, lots of them would probably be marching on the other side (and may well be before this crisis is over).

I expect that you're going to see the same kind of exodus from Greece that you saw in Lebanon: the merchant class and the ambitious youngsters will simply uproot and move elsewhere. Then Greece will become mainly a land of tourists and aged pensioners.

36 The Greek mess may help bring the collapse of the European Union and the Euro. Good for the dollar and the stock market here, not so good news for the socialists in Europe. Also not good for that Greek cop. That's gonna leave a mark. Gotta be tough on the Empty Suit as well: he loves socialists but seems to have a strong dislike of white folk. Hope this does not take away from his golf game.

So what is the charge for tossing a molotov cocktail onto a police officer?

Disorderly conduct, Disturbing the peace, Reckless endangerment?  Shirley there is a misdemeanor  Class C charge, or even a civil citation that covers this.

Oh, wait, how about Attempted Murder, Capital Offense on a police officer?  Oh noes, Greece abolished the death penalty in 1993.  Pity.

51 Greeks. Meh. It's a shitty country to live in, half the food is good, the other half-tepid, swimming in olive oil, and strangely tasteless. If you want good Greek food, go to Baltimore. (No way am I sending anyone to Chicago.) But these people will riot for any reason, at the drop of a hat. I was in the middle of a teacher's riot, and one of the bastards took my glasses off my face and smashed them. I beat the hell out of the guy with my radio-strangely, they left me alone after that. The Spartan warriors ALL died at Thermopylae. Nothing left of them. Malakas.
