Grim Days for Global Warmenists
— Dave in Texas

The whitewash of the CRU emails has been laid on, but the goddang planet is not cooperating.

In America, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been trumpeting that, according to its much-quoted worldwide temperature data, the first six months of this year were the hottest ever recorded. But expert analysis on Watts Up With That, the US science blog, shows that NOAA's claimed warming appears to be strangely concentrated in those parts of the world where it has fewest weather stations. In Greenland, for instance, two of the hottest spots, showing a startling five-degree rise in temperatures, have no weather stations at all.

A second technique the warmists have used lately to keep their spirits up has been to repeat incessantly that the official inquiries into the "Climategate" scandal have cleared the top IPCC scientists involved of any wrongdoing, and that their science has been "vindicated". But, as has been pointed out by critics like Steve McIntyre of Climate Audit, this is hardly surprising, since the inquiries were careful not to interview any experts, such as himself, who could have explained just why the emails leaked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) were so horribly damaging.

Meanwhile, in South America, it's kinda cold.

It's not agw anymore...it's climate change.  Of course, in years past when the warmmongers were squealing about hot hot hot, and the skeptics were insisting that climate has always you know, changed, they told us we were idiots.

We had about a week and a half at the first of June that was hot.  Since then, we've been well below normal.  Two and a half weeks where we never hit 90 once, about eight days the highs were in the 70s (!) and we've had several days recently where we haven't broken 90.  Of course, the humidity is up, but still.  Strange days.

While a few may be simply misguided, it is clear to me now that most of the leaders in this "project" knew this manmade global warming claim was phony to begin with. Someone, somewhere figured if they could couch a disaster in terms the "masses" could understand, they could finally impose their religion, state socialism, on everyone in the West.

Despite credibility and factual damage that would be lethal for any other pseudo-science project, everywhere you look the "carbon footprint" mantra has taken hold in business.  Who knew you could social engineer using flim-flams?

44 As for the warmmongers and their squealing incessantly:  there is in fact man caused warming.  The cities, replete with all the concrete and asphalt, have what's called the Urban Heat Island effect.  The day's heat is trapped, held overnight so it doesn't cool down as much, and heats up more during the day.  So it really is hotter.  In the cities.  Try sometime driving with your windows down, and leave the urbanized areas.  You'll notice a major cooldown.  When I'm on the bike, I can feel it drop 5-10 degrees with a minor city like Lubbock.  Oh, and btw, guess where most of the temp stations are?  You got it Zippy, in the cities.  Go sometime to the station survey project that Anthony Watts from WUWT ran.  Some of the most hideous sitings you can imagine.  The gov't has a scale from one to five for rating sites, only a one or two are considered acceptable.  Exactly 10% have a one or two rating.  In the last twenty years, the number of stations around the world has dropped dramatically, with most of the dropouts being in Siberia, Northern Canada, and Northern Europe.  Where the cool temps are that would bring down the averages.  The whole thing is rotten.

76 One of the big problems with the surface temperature record, and the resulting model inputs, is the spatial distribution of sensors - compounded by the decision made for "gridding" or spreading the data to be inclusive of the unmeasured areas.

I took a stab at re-gridding the data using better techniques - but then realized I couldn't publish (on a website, not their stinking journals) using DTED2 data layers.  Then Copenhagen failed, the CRUgate exploded, then winter from hell, and then the chakra was released -- so I figured I would let them continue to bleed from self-inflicted wounds for a while.

And, another thing - the data is a mess.  I deal with huge, dynamic datasets all of the time - these climate folks need several years of data integrity and qa work before they could say anything confident about the world.

I finish shopping by cell phone light but the power company lets the store know it will be 3-4 hours before the power comes back up. They tell everyone to leave--that was 2 hours wasted and the store will have to throw out huge amounts of food. I should have taken the ice cream and steaks with me. Anyway, I just re-shopped. When I left the first store the temp was 76. My lifeguard son went nuts clearing the pool because the sheeple wouldn't leave until the lightening and the pool in its wisdom had removed the weights from the umbrellas because people like to move them around. Some of the umbrellas cleared the trees at the end of the complex. What a day. But it is more comfortable.

82 Bikermailman - my problem is that I forgot DTED2 underlaying data isn't distributable without DoD approval .  Not even going to ask.  I don't know it the relevant topographical features can be extracted from a commercial or public source in the same resolution.

I could continue and publish within the DoD community - but would have to tie it to logistics planning model - and want to fight a bureaucratic retreat from Chosin.

It's 106 in VA today with a heat index of 115 -- for like the umpteenth day in a row.  Going outside is like walking into a freakin' oven wearing a wet towel. On short trips in the car, the AC can be on full blast for 15 minutes or so, but it never cools down.  Thank Gaia that Obumbles didn't get the lead out in putting those outlet caps this summer.

It's been 100 and over the last few days in Roanoke and MrsCaniac and I went to a show at the civic center here. Even the ac there wasn't able to keep up. Heck, our ac has been running during the day constantly for the past 5 days.

What?

I'm still confused about the whole "other site" deal.

Blazer was tossing around allegations about it being a place where the morons are ridiculed. He, or someone else, indicated that a bunch of the old regulars had moved over to The Hostages. So, I dropped over there to check it out and there was this long list of ex-AOS commenters listed there along with their birthdays. Several of them, such as Pajama Momma and Wiserbud haven't been here in quite a while and I had wondered what had happened to them.

My question, a curiosity I suppose, is this: How did they know to go there? How would they know that there was some other website to which they were welcome to be a part but that others of us were not?

So why would anyone be unduly concerned of the Earth was warming OR cooling? Not like you're gonna change it, or anything.

Imho, the solution, as it were, is to adapt to the particular, and survive, or fail to adapt and die. That in itself kinda renders the debate moot.

Only thing I get pissed about is the monumental arrogance displayed by claiming humans are responsible.  I'll grant that we CAN affect LOCAL climate sometimes, but no more than that.  Plus I'm NOT going to compromise my lifestyle for some Goddamn fern fucker.

Actually, the Arctic is cooling and the ice growing too.  The low point of three years ago was mostly caused by wind breaking up the ice on the fringe.  It's grown every year since, and while the temps don't normally start downward for another month, the downward curve has already been going on for a couple of weeks this year.  There's a not insignificant area above Canada that has seen ice grow since July 1.  During polar summer.

114 What's amusing is that global warmers claimed their studies were scientifically rigorous when they have lost their primary data, which is the most important thing in an experiment.  All they have to show the world is temperature data which has been processed by an algorithm they refuse to disclose.  Since when is science so opaque in its methods?

Here's a point that might help sway the minds of that colleague of yours with the 30 second attention span.  Just ask

Seeing as how the experts say that sea levels have been rising for the past thirty years,  how come nobody has ever said anything about how much the seas have actually  risen?  They certainly should have risen by at least an inch by now, shouldn't they?  So where's the the number?  How much has the ocean risen?

Oh for goodness sake this whole thing seems like high school again and I’m getting more tired of it than any sort of “angry” tone here. I’ve put up with some pretty horrible shit directed at me, especially a couple of months ago, but I stuck around anyway. However, the last several days around here are making me really question whether I want to continue reading this site at all.

I find it especially galling that people are always ragging on the ONT for being a clique and all that, and yet recent evidence points to the fact that this place has been operating for at least a year, if not more, with two levels of commenters. The “old timers” and those of us who thought we found a comfortable place to hang out during the 2008 election. Only apparently we’re bringing the place down in some way and changing the “tone.”

I suppose this whole comment makes me an attention whore and open once again for a round of ridicule. But Jesus H. Christ on a crutch, the last 4 days here have been worse than being locked up in a house with 14 other women all on their periods at the exact same time with no access to chocolate or vodka.

257 Bitchelor loves massive dumps, document or otherwise.

I think he lost his Sunday-night time slot in L.A. I hope he's not on around here. That gushy mix of news and dish made my skin crawl.

By the time everyone parrots the contents of these documents, we won't have a friggin' secret left. Except for Osama Obama's school transcripts, work history and true campaign donor list. Those things are guarded more closely than anything from the Manhattan Project.

Either change the topic or leave for the night and try again the next night. Easy peasy.

315 >You can't read most of what Blazer said because it's been removed for time immortal. He was warned to layoff and instead of doing the grown-up thing, he had to act up like a 2-year old. Yes, I'm sure it was the whiskey talking mostly, but it was outta hand. I'll give a quick recap because this won't seem to die. Ace mentioned in a thread the other day that he was sick and tired of the personal attacks and the general nasty tone in here. He mentioned that he was at a party in CT, note the party was in CT but not everyone is from CT, some came from CA, some TX and some from *gasp* fly over country, and he got to thinking how few of the people who were at the party comment here anymore and how much the tone of the comments has changed. That was a friendly, collegial group that argued all the time but left off the personal attacks and imputing of bad faith among fellow commenters. Clearly some people took that the wrong way and started this whole bullshit about how ace shits on his commenters behind their backs and really only likes the old timers. Blazer took this theme and ran with it making some pretty dumb accusations even insinuating that ace and the co-bloggers had taken donations to throw a party to laugh about the people here. Maet asked him repeatedly to stop but he kept going and going until Maet gave him the night off. The next morning, LauraW, the hostess of the party and one of the nicest people you will ever meet, stopped into the end of the thread to straighten Blazer out. Anyone wondering about the party and the nefarious reasons why it was closed really ought to go read her last 3 comments on the thread. Hopefully, that will put and end to this bullshit. Yes, this always was a free wheeling place where you could speak your mind and have intelligent arguments but it wasn't a nasty insult party. If you can't tell the difference I don't know what to tell you. H2 is no more cliquy than the ONT, less probably. A bunch of the same people go to the ONT every night and nobody is calling you guys elitists. H2 is a bunch of really nice people who have known each other for years and are pretty good friends in real life and those who keep insisting that this is some sort of conspiracy are just stirring up needless shit. Ace said the other day that he was determined to change the tone of this place and take some of the baiting and insults out. Ace is a great guy and very tolerant but he does have limits. That was my point to you, beeduyah. If you want to ignore it and keep pushing the envelope go right ahead. But it would be nice if everyone lightened the fuck up.

I don't see it as cliquish ....at all
I post stuff, if it interests them they respond and, if it doesn't they say nothing but then I'll see something i posted in the ONT make it as one of the posts or in a conversation the next day...so you know they read it but didn't comment....

Posted by: curious at July 25, 2010 06:10 PM (p302b)

335 >>Funny thing about the "The ONT is cliquish" myth; the people who believe it don't post because they believe the ONT is cliquish, thus creating a self-fulfilling prophecy of the ONT being cliquish. Substitute H2 for ONT and you see how silly the last few days have been.

339 Substitute H2 for ONT and you see how silly the last few days have been.

I don't understand the H2 hate.  It's a sweet place.  Right now they're wondering why "the mothership" has disgorged a bunch of newbies.  It's a legit question.  And all those newbs are doing fine.

This is either the most interesting sociological experiment I've ever observed, or it's just fucking sad.

But I guess the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Posted by: Herr Morgenholz at July 25, 2010 06:14 PM (lN56Y)

340 Something to consider...when I started reading and commenting here in 2005 most threads got 10 comments, 20 was big and 40 was huge.

Over the years, this blog has grown. Every thread gets 70-100 just by virtue of putting it up. I remember when we celebrated 10 million hits, now we're over 85 million. It took a lot longer to get the first 10 then it did the next 75.

At some point (don't know when) as the blog grew and it became harder and harder to have that same intimate feeling some folks started up their own blogs and their friends gravitated to them as a place where they could connect.

It's not a question of better or worse commenters, it's simply an issue of existing relationships and looking for different things from different blogs. H2 seems more chummy/social, while this place is more issues/politics oriented (with chummy/social elements).

It's just a function of the growth of this place.

FTR-I don't think I've ever left a comment over at H2. I do however know most of the folks over there, met a bunch of them over the years and like them a lot.

When I first started coming here it was on referral from Velociworld. My how things have changed on the blogosphere.

My daily reads, back then, were Velociworld, AoS, LGF, Bill @ INDC, Protein Wisdom and Moxie. I even had someone who liked my comments start a blog and leave it for me to run, which I did for a while (Devine Innerbitchin), until I had a couple of very creepy experiences of the stalkerish type. Thus, I know how difficult it is to provide fresh material on a regular basis and then have that material and your viewpoint and your grammar and everything else about you become open to public scrutiny. All the while, trying to maintain relationships without encouraging the nutcases. The most readers I ever had in a day was a couple of hundred and Ace has thousands.

My hat's off to Ace for managing to pull it off each and every day all of these years.

I think that's tied to growth too.

There are so many people who are coming in don't always know who everyone is. I've seen people who I know where here when I showed up being called trolls by people I've never seen post before.

It's like we used to be a small town in the boonies that no one ever moved to and you knew your neighbors. For the last two years or so, we've been like a booming southern city with lots of new comers moving in all the time.

It's not always clear who is a new neighbor and who is someone passing through to cause trouble.

353 What Drew said, I couldn't have said it better. I 1st started reading this blog before Bush was reelected. I worked in an office that was exposed to a lot of traffic so I couldn't really comment here, or anywhere. I would just zoom around the internet reading various blogs and news sites. When I did check the comments it was a very small group that really got along. By the time I de-lurked (I think I've used 3 or 4 different monikers) the comments were plentiful and more argumentative. But I still love the place.

If it would help, I could type up a little how-to on searching for someone's nick and/or hash if one is curious to see if they've posted before.

A month or two ago someone mentioned how to do that and I was surprised at how many people didn't know how. Of course it's complicated by the ace.mu.nu vs. minx.cc difference.

I'm not looking to lecture people, just give them the tools to help themselves...

364 That comment from Christy about securing the border and making a common sense path to citizenship isn't contradictory. The company I work for had employed H2B visa workers, legally, for most of the past decade. These are good people that wanted to work and learn.

Since O'woeisme got in and the unemployment rate skyrocketed, we can't get H2B visas anymore, and those people are out in the cold. Now they want to give illegals a path to citizenship when legals are locked out. Is that common sense?

They mainly used just a first name. The most famous one here was asked if he was a Christian and answered "of course" which kinda gave him away.

No, my husband was a pool designer and no one was buying pools. We and our four kids had to move back to San Diego and live in my parents UNconverted garage for 8 months and then we were squatters in an abandoned home for a year. Just this weekend we're moving into a rental home. It's been crazy.

1)  Click on the H2 link when DiT or Lauraw the Humpstress puts a poat up over here.
