— Dave in Texas The whitewash of the CRU emails has been laid on, but the goddang planet is not cooperating.
In America, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been trumpeting that, according to its much-quoted worldwide temperature data, the first six months of this year were the hottest ever recorded. But expert analysis on Watts Up With That, the US science blog, shows that NOAA's claimed warming appears to be strangely concentrated in those parts of the world where it has fewest weather stations. In Greenland, for instance, two of the hottest spots, showing a startling five-degree rise in temperatures, have no weather stations at all.A second technique the warmists have used lately to keep their spirits up has been to repeat incessantly that the official inquiries into the "Climategate" scandal have cleared the top IPCC scientists involved of any wrongdoing, and that their science has been "vindicated". But, as has been pointed out by critics like Steve McIntyre of Climate Audit, this is hardly surprising, since the inquiries were careful not to interview any experts, such as himself, who could have explained just why the emails leaked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) were so horribly damaging.
Meanwhile, in South America, it's kinda cold.

They've had all kinds of snowy weather in S America. The cold air mass from the South Pole has extended above the frakkin equator. As for summer here in the Panhandle of Texas, it's been a cool one. Again.

Where at? Technically, Levelland is the South Plains, but I'm guessing those not from these parts wouldn't know the difference.
We had about a week and a half at the first of June that was hot. Since then, we've been well below normal. Two and a half weeks where we never hit 90 once, about eight days the highs were in the 70s (!) and we've had several days recently where we haven't broken 90. Of course, the humidity is up, but still. Strange days.

Their story then was it was only cold in "part" of the world. What they failed to mention was that the part that was record cold was North America, Europe, and Asia.
In other words, the entire Northern Hemisphere had a record Winter. But the tree rings don't show that and neither do the "final calculated temperatures".

I took a stab at re-gridding the data using better techniques - but then realized I couldn't publish (on a website, not their stinking journals) using DTED2 data layers. Then Copenhagen failed, the CRUgate exploded, then winter from hell, and then the chakra was released -- so I figured I would let them continue to bleed from self-inflicted wounds for a while.
And, another thing - the data is a mess. I deal with huge, dynamic datasets all of the time - these climate folks need several years of data integrity and qa work before they could say anything confident about the world.

I'm still confused about the whole "other site" deal.
Blazer was tossing around allegations about it being a place where the morons are ridiculed. He, or someone else, indicated that a bunch of the old regulars had moved over to The Hostages. So, I dropped over there to check it out and there was this long list of ex-AOS commenters listed there along with their birthdays. Several of them, such as Pajama Momma and Wiserbud haven't been here in quite a while and I had wondered what had happened to them.
My question, a curiosity I suppose, is this: How did they know to go there? How would they know that there was some other website to which they were welcome to be a part but that others of us were not?

Imho, the solution, as it were, is to adapt to the particular, and survive, or fail to adapt and die. That in itself kinda renders the debate moot.

Actually, the Arctic is cooling and the ice growing too. The low point of three years ago was mostly caused by wind breaking up the ice on the fringe. It's grown every year since, and while the temps don't normally start downward for another month, the downward curve has already been going on for a couple of weeks this year. There's a not insignificant area above Canada that has seen ice grow since July 1. During polar summer.

Get a generator. Preferably propane powered, the canisters are easy to obtain and move, and the fuel doesn't go bad like gasoline. You can find them fairly cheap online, or places like harbor freight.

The thing is, this isn't new news. People have known this for years, but only now is the MFM so out of love with Obama that they are willing to report it. (Yes, it does have to do with the MFM covering for Obama: they used to be willing to pretend that his AfPak strategy was perfect, and for that reason they were willing to hide the fact that Pakistan's ISI is actually playing both sides to preserve its own power and influence.)

I'm not a harpy, but I will say one more thing and then I'm off the subject.
If that's true. If it is true that a group of considerable size were made to feel so uncomfortable here that they were compelled to go elsewhere, then how in the hell can those of us who remain here be angry or bitter about it?
Perhaps, instead, we should consider a bit of introspection.
That's all.

1. I don't have to scrape ice off my car or shovel ever 30 mins.
2. No appetite >>> insta-diet!
3. Saving money and time getting ready in the morning as I'm not wearing make-up these days.

Oh for goodness sake this whole thing seems like high school again and I’m getting more tired of it than any sort of “angry” tone here. I’ve put up with some pretty horrible shit directed at me, especially a couple of months ago, but I stuck around anyway. However, the last several days around here are making me really question whether I want to continue reading this site at all.
I find it especially galling that people are always ragging on the ONT for being a clique and all that, and yet recent evidence points to the fact that this place has been operating for at least a year, if not more, with two levels of commenters. The “old timers” and those of us who thought we found a comfortable place to hang out during the 2008 election. Only apparently we’re bringing the place down in some way and changing the “tone.”
I suppose this whole comment makes me an attention whore and open once again for a round of ridicule. But Jesus H. Christ on a crutch, the last 4 days here have been worse than being locked up in a house with 14 other women all on their periods at the exact same time with no access to chocolate or vodka.

It really looks like we should get out now. We are funding the Taliban through pakistan and making no progress.
We should get the F out unless we decide to fight this war right. We need to consider the ISI and many parts of Pakistan as the enemy. We need to cut off their funds and start killing them. Unless we start doing that, then this whole thing is a waste of lives and money.

What did Blazer say? I haven't had time to read that infamous ONT yet?
Posted by: . at July 25, 2010 05:25 PM (p302b)
284 Well that's nice of you!
And I know the ONT is not for everyone. the redundant sex talk does get old after awhile. Sorry but it does. I mean how many times can people discuss 'Brazilian' vs 'Landing Strips'. I'm not going to ask them to stop (although I will if they start talking spiders---ewwwwwwww!).
Either change the topic or leave for the night and try again the next night. Easy peasy.

You can't read most of what Blazer said because it's been removed for time immortal. He was warned to layoff and instead of doing the grown-up thing, he had to act up like a 2-year old. Yes, I'm sure it was the whiskey talking mostly, but it was outta hand.

I don't understand the H2 hate. It's a sweet place. Right now they're wondering why "the mothership" has disgorged a bunch of newbies. It's a legit question. And all those newbs are doing fine.
This is either the most interesting sociological experiment I've ever observed, or it's just fucking sad.
But I guess the two aren't mutually exclusive.
Posted by: Herr Morgenholz at July 25, 2010 06:14 PM (lN56Y)
Over the years, this blog has grown. Every thread gets 70-100 just by virtue of putting it up. I remember when we celebrated 10 million hits, now we're over 85 million. It took a lot longer to get the first 10 then it did the next 75.
At some point (don't know when) as the blog grew and it became harder and harder to have that same intimate feeling some folks started up their own blogs and their friends gravitated to them as a place where they could connect.
It's not a question of better or worse commenters, it's simply an issue of existing relationships and looking for different things from different blogs. H2 seems more chummy/social, while this place is more issues/politics oriented (with chummy/social elements).
It's just a function of the growth of this place.
FTR-I don't think I've ever left a comment over at H2. I do however know most of the folks over there, met a bunch of them over the years and like them a lot.

When I first started coming here it was on referral from Velociworld. My how things have changed on the blogosphere.
My daily reads, back then, were Velociworld, AoS, LGF, Bill @ INDC, Protein Wisdom and Moxie. I even had someone who liked my comments start a blog and leave it for me to run, which I did for a while (Devine Innerbitchin), until I had a couple of very creepy experiences of the stalkerish type. Thus, I know how difficult it is to provide fresh material on a regular basis and then have that material and your viewpoint and your grammar and everything else about you become open to public scrutiny. All the while, trying to maintain relationships without encouraging the nutcases. The most readers I ever had in a day was a couple of hundred and Ace has thousands.
My hat's off to Ace for managing to pull it off each and every day all of these years.

I think that's tied to growth too.
There are so many people who are coming in don't always know who everyone is. I've seen people who I know where here when I showed up being called trolls by people I've never seen post before.
It's like we used to be a small town in the boonies that no one ever moved to and you knew your neighbors. For the last two years or so, we've been like a booming southern city with lots of new comers moving in all the time.

Yep, Drew, I've seen oooold timers called trolls and it's weird.
If it would help, I could type up a little how-to on searching for someone's nick and/or hash if one is curious to see if they've posted before.
A month or two ago someone mentioned how to do that and I was surprised at how many people didn't know how. Of course it's complicated by the ace.mu.nu vs. minx.cc difference.

How to break in to the super secret site H2. By pendejogrande.
1) Click on the H2 link when DiT or Lauraw the Humpstress puts a poat up over here.
2) Wait for tittyweb jenkins to sort through the bullshit and find H2.
3) Click on whatever the newest poat is. We never hang out on old poats.
4) Say something funny occasionally. (I'm good for about 2 funnies per month and they still let me hang.)
5) Insult the BBF cows every Friday.
6) Punch yourself in the dick when told to do so.

And I love it! Long live the mothership. H2, IB, DPuD, they are all great too. Don't be afraid to comment over there. There is no fight club.
