Up until maybe five years ago, we here in flyover country used a Spanish language rule 11 form that was drafted by an employee of the public defender's office whose command of the language was less than complete to instruct Spanish speaking defendants who wished to plead guilty about their rights.  In the section that instructed them that they had to enter the plea "freely", he had used the Spanish word indicating that they wouldn't be charged a monetary amount to plead guilty.  Thousands and thousands of pleas were accepted using that form.  If some of the defendants realized that those forms are a big Biden deal, they could probably have their convictions thrown out.

Uh, they are there, just look at your speedometer. K's to M's are really easy. Just multiply the K's by 6 and drop the zero and you will get the M's. For example; if you are ever confronted by a maximum speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour, multiply that by 6 and you get 600, then drop the zero and you get 60 miles per hour. IOW, 100 kph means 60 mph.

--I'll use the sock-post to make a point.  The funny thing is, while Canada having two official languages has its own inefficiencies, it gets the language issue right.  One of the first items on the application for permanent residency (like the U.S. "Green" card) --and the first after all the personal data like DOB and marital status-- is about proficiency in French or English (Item 11 here).  You better believe they take it seriously, too.

I think it would function in pretty much the same way it does in every other country I've been in.  Because they all have an official language or languages.  Even the French let you speak English before they sneer at you.

You can speak whatever you want, but only the English version of a law is legally binding.  (If the Tagalog translation has a different interpretation, it doesn't count.)  Nobody can sue to have their language accommodated.  No foreign languages on ballots.  Companies can choose to do whatever they like.

Which means that "Dial 1 for English.  Para Espanol, oprima dos." will probably be around.
