— Dave in Texas Just saw this on Twitter via SnB. His wife has a fractured back and neck, and a broken nose, and his daughter neck injuries and cuts.
Their vehicle was rear-ended by a semi-truck as they drove on a Washington highway, Summers said. Lana Reid’s injuries also are not life-threatening, the spokesman said. Both were admitted to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, said hospital spokesman Tony Raker. Summers said both were conscious and “can feel their extremities.”
The injuries are described as non life-threatening, but certainly serious. Best wishes for their speedy recovery. I've got a wife and two adult girls, and I've gotten that phone call too. It sucks.
Updated, broken back and neck. Damnnn. Thanks PajamaMomma for the reading for comprehension thingy.

And Reid, if you happen to read about this, put a lid on the bitching and whining. I'm not trash talking your family; if anything, I seem to care more about them than you do.

I suspect that a lot of liberals saw how classy the conservatives were being, and decided to don their moby outfits and pretend to be conservatives gleeful at this. But that's just not how the right feels about this kind of thing. Then again, there's always a douche in every crowd, left or right or anything else.
This man deserves the basic level of respect. Even though he's a snake and has really harmed the country, he did so democratically and the place for outrage is in the political realm, berating his ideas and manners and getting voters to fix the problem. Wishing ill on his family is something I doubt many Tea partiers or conservatives would do.

And when it does, it always values comity and niceness. Often this is the right's undoing. Bush withstood ugliness with class. Mccain was fucking absurdly nice to the left.
So yeah, they do. and if someone hates Reid so much that they are pleased with this story, they just aren't in the tent. I decide. It's my call. If they don't like it, so what? I still win this kind of thing, every single time, and I know it and they know it.
No sweat though, Reid is going to lose his election and he'll always be known for his ugliness. But I still hope his family comes through this and feel sympathy for them.

@68: If I'm being a douche, which I may very well be, it's because I've been a resident of Nevada--not New Mexico--and had this POS as my Senator for the last 24 years. To say he was elected democratically is a bit of a stretch. He only had one competitive race, in 1998 against John Ensign, and he won that after the vote counting computers in Washoe County, an Ensign stronghold, conveniently failed--by 200 votes.
To understand why a POS like Reid can get elected over and over, you have to understand the corrupt casino culture of Nevada. You may think that Reid is hugely popular; you'd be very wrong. In fact, the GOP and Democrats in this state both get huge sums of money from the casinos, and the people who control the Nevada GOP in every other election made sure that no good Republican candidate ran. Yes, that's right: the Nevada GOP has thrown the 1986, 1992, and 2004 elections by order of their casino masters.
They tried to do the same in this election: numerous GOP big-names in Nevada either openly endorsed Reid (political fundraiser Sig Rogich) or helped him with fundraising (Reno mayor Bob Cashell). (Cashell now claims he never supported Reid, and that he only appeared at a fundraiser to "help Reno"; this didn't stop Reid from running an online ad listing Cashell as one of the Republicans supporting his candidacy). The reason this game isn't working this time is that Reid is too well-known now; they can't pass him off as a moderate Democrat good ol' boy any more.

On the other hand, if Global Warming wasn't responsible for heating up the truck's brake pads resulting in a longer stopping distance, this accident might never occurred. According to the IPCC, car accidents will increase by 98.7% by 2020 due to "Climate Change".*

Harry Reid is not engaged in politics. He is engaged in a soft coup to subvert the constitution and become part of the overlord class. Passing laws without voting on them? WTF? Taking over private companies and throwing out the rightful equity holders in violation of bankruptcy precedent? If thugs invaded my home, shot my dog and planned worse for my family, and one answered his cel phone to learn that his wife had just been rear ended by a semi, thoughts and prayers for his family would not be the first thing on my mind.

To expand on what I mentioned earlier, regarding the GOP's willingness to sell out its own candidates in Nevada:
I suspect the GOP establishment does this in many other states as well. Every conservative always assumes that states like Massachusetts and New Jersey have leftist politicians because they have weird leftist voters. I suspect this not to be the case. What those states DO have, is a very corrupt political class.
The voters don't reject the GOP in those states because they are turned off by the right wing; look at their candidates, all members of the Rockefeller country club set. No, they reject the GOP because the state GOP establishment, like the Dem establishment in those states, is on the take and throwing elections.
Look at what happened in New Jersey and Massachusetts once candidates were able to base their fundraising online instead of by kissing up to government-connected businesses. If the GOP gets rid of the David Frum types, who are corrupt and on the take, we could have a 60-seat majority in the Senate, and a 300-seat majority in the House. At least.

Best wishes that Mrs. Reid and her daughter have a speedy recovery and don't suffer too much.
That said, I can't understand why Harry checked in on his wife and then headed back to DC. I don't care what your job is (even the President of the US for that matter) if your loved one is lying in the hospital in pain after an accident, you should be there for a bit longer than just a cursory drop by. Especially in this day and age with laptops and cell phones and fax machines and everything else. And, regardless of the protestations of your loved one if they are telling you to leave. So, that part of the story, if true, pisses me off.

I don't know curious, most of the guys I know would stay with their wives, no matter what she says, if she's in the hosptial. Not only for support but also people who are medicated have a difficult time following what is being said about their condition and it is advisable to have someone there to listen and to advocate.
Even when my marriage was at its very lowest point and my husband and I were not getting along, he was with me at the hospital when I had to have some tests run.

In MA a rearend is automatically the rearender's fault - with the exception of a chain reaction accident where the car that is rearended then ends up rearending the car in front of them.

Doesn't sound like he loves her much to me. He'd rather engage in partisan bitterness & rancor than be by the bedsides of the people he's supposed to love, one of whom he vowed to be beside "in sickness & in health". From an old Harry political ad:
The voice of Landra Reid is heard: "You can disagree on Harry Reid's greatest accomplishment. Some say that it is being born in a small wooden shack and rising above it to become a U.S. senator. Others talk about the laws he's passed. . . . But for me, Harry Reid's greatest accomplishment is being a devoted husband and father who helped raise five exceptional children. Cicero be careful what you say now, for I will cut off your hands and nail them to the Senate door for Harry Reid to jerk off with!

I'll miss them, too. It's been such great fun watching them (h/t Maet!). It was amazing how nuts they went when they were reunited earlier. They seem to really love each other, it's kinda sad to see them separated.

Their vehicle was rear-ended by a semi-truck as they drove on a Washington highway, Summers said.
Since when is I-95 in Fairfax County, VIRGINIA a "Washington" highway?

I bet they owe their lives to that car.
Harry Reid is a corrupt jerk, but he knows how to pick a car.
Posted by: throwaway handle at March 11, 2010 07:30 PM (dUOK+)
I see maybe two comments where Harry Reid is wished ill, and exactly zero wishing ill upon his family. Hardly a basis for twisting one's panties, I'd say.
Even so, I'm sure Tony Snow's family would be impressed by your concern for the need to moderate expressions of disapproval of one's political adversaries.
Posted by: Cicero"Are you literate?
I said almost all conservatives are being very kind, and the comments that aren't kind are probably mobies. You fucking moron. What the hell does this have to do with the assholes who were delighted with Tony Snow's misfortune?
Posted by: throwaway handle at March 11, 2010 07:32 PM (dUOK+)
I was just thinking that, that they owe their lives to that car. In another article I read that the front and back of the car were crushed.

I hope his wife and daughter suffer very little pain and have a full recovery.
As for Harry...I hope he gets booted out of office before he and his ilk do too much more destructive things to the land I love.

First Ted Kennedy gets a year of life extending medical care, then 86 year old Frank Lautenberg gets diagnosed with stomach cancer and now Harry Reid's wife and daughter are hospitalized with serious injuries. I wonder what the outcome would have been if Rahm Emmanuel's brother was doing the life-cost calculations on these patients! Harry, Frank, and Teddy (when alive) must be doing some serious thinking right abou now on the great medical care we have in this country.....and what their plans might just do to it! Still, prayers.

Man, as much as I detest and despise Harry Reid, I don't wish this upon any husband or father. I hope his wife and daughter make a speedy recovery while getting the best private health care this planet has to offer.
My prayers go out to them.
Posted by: Blazer at March 12, 2010 04:18 AM (t72+4)
I wish a speedy recovery to Senator Reid's wife and daughter. They have my utmost sympathy, as would anyone injured in such an incident. I've already said prayers on their behalf.
That said, I strongly dislike their husband and father, both on a personal and a professional level. Were I to be in a position to do so, not only would I refuse to shake his hand, I would absolutely refuse to even acknowledge his presence. I believe him to be traitorous, corrupt and criminal to the core. Nevada should be ashamed of itself for electing him. I know only one Mormon who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to dress him down with some seriously un-Mormon language for his actions in Congress. I strongly doubt he attends his church regularly, as a lot of people would probably like to give him a piece of their minds on his behavior. The sooner he's booted out of office, the better.
