— DrewM Over the weekend another 'moderate' Democrat, Marion Berry of Arkansas, announced he's retiring.
According to Berry, Obama tried to assure him and other 'moderates' that they can continue to vote for his unpopular plans and that everything will work out in the midterms.
“They just kept telling us how good it was going to be. The president himself, when that was brought up in one group, said, ‘Well, the big difference here and in ’94 was you’ve got me.’ We’re going to see how much difference that makes now.”
Yeah, they've got him alright...hanging around them like an albatross.
Let's take a quick look at the scoreboard in the recent spate of elections: Obama shows up in NJ, VA and MA, the Democrats go down.
In the one election the Democrats won (NY-23) Obama didn't show up and the candidate said he would oppose the House health care bill (that turned out to be a lie but still).
It's pretty clear a lot of young and minority voters will show up to vote for Obama but not for other Democrats. It's also clear a lot of other voters (one might call them "bitter clingers") took a chance on Obama and are regretting it.
If the environment is the same come this fall, we'll see a lot of Obama on the campaign trail but it will likely be in safe districts or ones so far gone they are willing to go for the Hail Mary of a presidential visit. But the tight races? Incumbents aren't going to want to be within 5 miles of the guy.

Oh my: Obama, "I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!"

Wow. Just...wow.
Even among Dems there must have been a lot of seat-squirming.
Honestly, I think Obama will be able to help in some races. I think in MA the troops were so demoralized that his visit jazzed them enough to show up and avoid a 10-point blowout. He'll be brought in to get out the African-American vote and maybe the college-age vote. Otherwise, not so much.

I don't think NY-23 can be used as an example of any great deal from the Dems. The local R party caused that cluster fk. I still think thre is q good chance that the local R party has been infiltrated by Dems.
If the Rs had nominated the conservative from the git-go and that Dede scrunt had not been on the ballot, the Rs would have won.

The Indian and Chinese governments have had a rethink on signing the Copenhagen Accord, officials said on Saturday, and the UN has also indefinitely postponed its Jan 31 deadline for countries to accede to the document.
An Indian official said that though the government had been thinking of signing the accord because it “did not have any legal teeth and would be good diplomatically”; it felt irked because of repeated messages from both UN officials and developed countries to accede to it.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has written to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon seeking a number of clarifications on the implications of the accord that India -- with five other countries -- had negotiated in the last moments of the Copenhagen climate summit in December, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“That letter, and the defeat of the Democrats in the Massachusetts bypoll, has forced the UN to postpone the deadline indefinitely,” an official said. “With the Democrats losing in one of their strongholds, the chances of the climate bill going through the US senate have receded dramatically.

Did the current Haitian president die in the quake or assassination? "The news" never mentions the Haitian government since the initial quake brought down the Presidential Palace. Is it clear? One of th 17 different talking points after the Brown election was that some Democratic voters didn't vote. I'm not clear on whether Obama got a bigger turnout in Mass., for example, and then this month's election was back to normal...or whether Ms. Coakley and her views were so unpopular that turnout was lower than average/normal.

The kids who voted for Obama were voting for the person, not the issues - most of them aren't even going to show up for the mid-term elections. By the time the next presidential election comes around, those same kids are going to be looking for non-existent jobs, thanks to Dear Leader.
The college kids who will be voting in their first election aren't going to have the "novelty" that Obama was in 2008, so they aren't as likely to buy his BS this time around.

Ironically, though, his failure to bring a Coakley win in MA makes the Democrats far less confident in his steaming, stinking powers.

"The Obama-Biden Administration will make student loans more affordable by limiting a borrower’s payments to 10 percent of his or her income above a basic living allowance. It will also keep the total cost of loan repayment manageable by forgiving all remaining debt after 10 years of payments for those in public service work and 20 years for all others. The monthly payment for a single borrower earning $30,000 who owes $20,000 in loans would be $115 a month, compared to $228 a month under the standard 10-year repayment plan. These steps – which build on the Income-Based Repayment plan implemented last summer -- will help with the staggering burden of student loan debt and allow a generation of young adults to enter public service and other careers with historically low pay."

Jan. 25 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama is proposing a tax package aimed at appealing to middle-income Americans, including an increased tax credit for child care and an expansion of tax credits to match retirement savings.
The proposals are intended to fit within the main themes -- the economy, jobs and tackling the deficit -- the president plans to sound in his State of the Union address on Jan. 27, according to an administration statement.

I always get a kick out of these assholes when they talk about the middle class. When they are talking about qualifying for a tx break or some kind of assistence program they can not make more that 50K with 4 children.
When talking about the rich who need to be taxed more it winds up being anyone who makes more than 50K.
Basically there is no middle class anymore. You are either poor and need assistance or you are rich and need to be taxed to death.

Yeah, they've got him alright...hanging around them like an albatross.
More like a millstone around their necks while they try to tread water. Obama has the "anti-Midas" touch. Everything he touches turns to "Brown".

Yes it does! Yippie! Obama is going to make more promises!
All healthcare meetings on CSPAN, going through each bill line-by-line, taxcuts for 95% of Americans, no tax increase of any kind EVAR!!!!
Whooo-hoooooooo! </sarcasm>

Last November 30, Politico published an interesting article listing the "seven stories that Obama doesn't want told":
http://tinyurl.com/y8vmjya
Number seven is, "He's in love with the man in the mirror". Given that fact - that this is an impression the White House doesn't, or shouldn't, want to give - that photograph is absolutely amazing. Clearly, the Obama operation last lost touch with reality.
I suspect that the administration fell off a cliff the moment Obama decided to accept the Nobel Peace Prize: Obama illustrated his vapidity and narcissism in a way that no enemy of his could ever have done.
Posted by: Brown Line at January 25, 2010 09:09 AM (VrNoa)
I can't believe that photo either. What a freak. But people like that just laugh it off. After all, they're so great. It's like having the disease of being convinced you have no disease.
Remember when he was saying "after all, I am president" for about the first six months of last year.

hi all
i grabbed this out of a comment section of an article analyzing the precedents first year
anyone care to take a stab at it?
i quote
"

I am flabbergasted by the narrow-minded position staked out by Rex Murphy on Obama. He completely ignores the horrible U.S. economy on the mood of voters in the Massachusetts election. Couple this with a recalcitrant, obstructionist minority party abusing parliamentary rule and a right-wing press hell bent on demagoguery, itÂ’s no wonder Scott "my daughter's are available" Brown managed to win.
The Republican party seems, with apparent zeal, intent on complete and utter ruin for the United States. Their policy positions have a rudimentary populist appeal that are an utter disaster for the country. They want to cut taxes AND reduce the deficit. They want to wage war willy-nilly around the world but are happy to use deficit spending to fund it. They want to cut spending but Medicare is untouchable.
Obama in his first year has made a comprehensive attempt at providing health care to 40 plus million uninsured American's, and for this he is pilloried by a smarmy Murphy who to me is the one blinded by Obama's "charisma" as a politician as he has clearly failed to see Obama's substance as president."

That's well beyond kool-aid, there. That guy had to be peaking on DMT when he wrote that.
Interestingly, he came closer to the truth than The Precedent or the Washington junta ever has - mistakenly, obviously, as he just got confused about what "comprehensive" was supposed to modify - when he finished with, "Obama in his first year has made a comprehensive attempt at providing health care to 40 plus million uninsured American's,." This was nothing but health care expansion, with no reform other than strangling regulations from the federal government guaranteed to run the private insurance companies out of business. Nice to hear one of the groupies state it, if only by mistake.

I sure wish he'd come out & say he wants to "spend more time with the family."

"...you've got me."
I have seen many, many, many, many, many egotistical statements in my life, but let's think about the sheer Hollywood crassness of those three words when spoken in the context where they were delivered.
I believe he's ready for his close-up now, Mr. DeMille.

Duck season has ONE more week!
Honestly, I think Obama will be able to help in some races. I think in MA the troops were so demoralized that his visit jazzed them enough to show up and avoid a 10-point blowout. He'll be brought in to get out the African-American vote and maybe the college-age vote. Otherwise, not so much.
I think Obama is toxic waste now in any red or purple state. Every time his lying ass shows up, it reminds people how stupid they were to believe him. Sort of like dumb shit Bush I and the no new tax pledge that he broke. People don't like to be lied to and they don't put up with it.

It was, in fact, the reddest of the red states in 2008. It's these damn racists around here. Berry's own district went heavily for McCain as well. He won because people there are Dems because they've always been Dems.

Somebody cue zombie Sonny Bono to re-write "I Got You Baby" into "You Got Me Baby" so he can sing it as part of the State of the Union.
And then McDonnell can cue zombie Doc Pomus (I believe) for a "Return to Sender" re-write.

Yes, yes, Obama going full campaign mode for the mid-terms is the best idea possible. The DNC should plaster the airwaves with his commercials in all districts. I wouldn't be suprised if the Dems gained another 50 seats in the House and got up to 80 seats total in the Senate.
Please, please DNC put Obama out there to save the party and the country. The Rethugulans are shivering in their boots at just the thought of it. In fact, Obama should have a press conference every day and should have a "countdown to prosperity" where everday he reads out the number of jobs he "saved or created."

I do not even that the college age crowd is going to be noting for the DEMS in in 2010 let alone 2012. I think teh shine on Obama has already worn off on them, especially in 2012 when the graduate and there are no jobs out there.
