Hawaii 1- Can Djou Keep The Seat? Yes, Yes He Can

HI-1 is one of the bluest of the blue, it's Obama's home district. There's a Republican in the seat now but he got their in a crazy 3 way race, where two Democrats split the vote during a special election earlier this year.

It was pretty much assumed that when the Democrats got behind one candidate in November, they would take it back. Well, maybe not. Behold, Congressman Charles Djou

According to a new Star-Advertiser/Hawaii News Now poll, Djou holds a slight 3-point edge over Democrat Colleen Hanabusa, but it is within the margin of error -- a statistical tie.
In a telephone poll of 399 very likely voters in the 1st Congressional District, representing urban Honolulu, Djou was favored by 48 percent, compared with 45 percent for Hanabusa.
Six percent said they were undecided or refused to answer; 1 percent said they would choose someone else.
The poll was conducted by Ward Research Inc. Oct. 12 to last Tuesday and has a 4.9 percent-point margin of error.

Congressman Djou previously served on the Honolulu City Council and in the Hawaii State House, where he was Minority Floor Leader. He also served as Vice Chair of the Hawaii Republican Party.
A child of immigrants, Congressman DjouÂ’s parents emigrated from China and Thailand. The Congressman grew up in Hawaii. He graduated from Punahou School in Honolulu and the University of Pennsylvania earning degrees in Political Science and Economics from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. He received his juris doctor from the University of Southern California Law School.
The Congressman has been an active member of the community in Honolulu. He served on the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association and the Neighborhood Board for his area. He is a member of the Kamehameha Lions Club and has been a member of the Young Business Roundtable, the Rotary Club, and the Hawaii Telecommunications Association.

Consider this my official announcement that I volunteer to fly out and cover this race on election night. We have the money in the budget for that, right?

5 There have been 3 polls out of HI-1 PPP/DAILY KOS Djou down by 1 The Hill Djou up by 4 This one Djou up by 3 reweighted reflecting the age of the poll Djou is up by about 3. Now if only we can hang onto LA-2 and pull off a miracle in DE-At Large. I think IL-10, based on early turnout reports and averaging the polls, barely stays GOP.

No. Obama is too big to fail. If he runs, they will back him up. They will hate it, but they will do it.

If he's defeated in any way, it's a repudiation of everything he stands for. They can put Hillary in there, but she's just a placeholder. He either ceases to run because of "family issues" or he sticks it out and hopes to win.

He could quit late, but history would record that as a defeat. He wants to win the 2012 election. He'd be happy to resign after that. I think, secretly, he wants a way out right now. He doesn't want to do any more.

And he will muck up the whole system to get the second election stamp of approval. He'll have truckloads of ballots, guys with batons, his troops will be willing to literally make an election meaningless in order to "win."

50 This isn't surprising about Dijou and Hanabusa. Hanabusa is not really well liked, she comes off as ambitious and spiteful. When she runs her "positive" ads, she doesn't seem credible. She looks like she's acting. her demeanor is sour, her attitude is aggressive. It not something the locals go for across the district. It fits where she has her political strength in Waianae. BTW, my sister went out with Dijou when she attended Punahou. She didn't like him and likes him that much less now that she is a liberal living in NYC. I love her but I don't talk politics with her!
