Murkowski lost the primary and will likely lose the general election. Bob Bennett was defeated in Utah's state convention. Judd Greg retired. Ted Stevens of course lost in 08. Jim Bunning retired, and McConnell personally handpicked Trey Grayson to replace him. Grayson lost handily (58/35) - an embarrassing rebuke by voters of his own state.

It's clear that there are really two leaders of the Republican senate. McConnell is the official "moderate" leader, while Jim Demint is the unofficial conservative "shadow" leader.

Couple of things:  First, great post and great comments.

And now to my story. I was driving in the rainy mist today here in paradise in an udisclosed locale in Southern California when all of a sudden out from the higher rent neighbor should pop out a pristine jeep 4x4 with yellow lights on top with California exempt license plates. 

Hmmm says the mind, this is interesting, why would what appears to be a non-emergency or law enforcement vehicle be tooling around on a Sunday morning with a Mr. and Mrs. at the helm.  Well . . . I kept thinking about this and the State owned jeep ahead of me kept staying ahead of me heading in the same route I was.  I then came up to a signal and the jeep turned into a shopping center . . . and I said, what the hey, I'll follow this sucker . . . and that is what I did. 

I followed it past the grocery store and to where it parked.  It parked right in front of an upscale hardware store and sitting in the passenger seat of this State owned vehicle was a Mrs. somebody putting on her makeup while the Mr. state employee exited the vehicle to go into the hardware store.  

You see, living in the State of California is to be living in a state of collapse of financial magnitude that is beyond imagination and the pale.  I pay taxes upon taxes upon taxes to be told I need to pay more and that we need to "compromise" and that Meg Whitman the former e-bay executive is bad because she had the  temerity to pay what turns out to be, unbeknownst to her, an illegal alien $23 per hour for house work and is now being villified by the left coast. 

I digress . . .  now back to the jeep and with the California Exempt License plates . . . the Mr. driver state employee whoe exited the vehicle with shopping list in hand in front of the hardware store. . .

I pulled ahead and lowered the window and said, "what is a California exempt vehicle doing here on a Sunday morning . . . the gentleman was very surprised and nervous and said, "well we're on State business."   I replied, "that's interesting and said I am taking down the license plate number . . . to which, Mr. State worker gentleman looked pale and shocked and stood in quivering shame.

And I drove off.

Folks . . . don't let anyone get away with wasting taxpayer money.  Keep the heat on everything and everyone -  don't be afraid to stand up for what is right.

A certain letter is going to go out to key California commissioners tomorrow.

Inouye is within the margin of error of 50% which means he's vulnerable.  Especially if the turnout models are underrepresenting us the way they did in the Scott Brown race or the Missouri 'opt out of Obamacare' initiative.  And as mentioned above, late day turnout in HA is likely to be influenced by the wave being reported in the rest of the country.

Seriously though, CAC did prominently indicate this as a fantasy.  It certainly merits a visit by the One to prove how influential he still is.  Obviously, we'd need a second poll to see if there's any movement or if this is just where things have settled.

I would never vote Democrat because I was pissed at the Republicans. I would either sit out the election or vote Libertarian or Constitutional Party.

I don't know if that would be enough to swing the election, however if enough stay home and enough Republicans turn out, then it might cost a Dem or two who sit in a safe blue district their seat.

I think there are a lot of things operating in Massachusetts that will make people vote against the Ds this time.  Forget Boston for a moment - they're true ideological libs (progressives, if you will).  A lot of MA is made up of old mill towns and white ethnics.  Those folks traditionally vote D, but they are Kennedy democrats (John and Bobby, not Ted).  They're blue collar folks and Catholics and European immigrants. 

Those folks do not recognize Obama's D party.  Now, I think a lot of them voted for Obama on the wave two years ago.  People like my mother in law and my aunt and my godmother who are older folks convinced by the younger generation (their kids) that it was the "right" thing to do. 

But the chickens have come home to roost. 

Those folks will vote against the Ds.  Hell, my godmother - who is an "intellectual" upper-crusty type of liberal voted for Scott Brown.  She was still "defending" Obama last spring, but without much passion and it was clear she was starting to doubt herself.

I don't think you do understand the sentiment, or you wouldn't be arguing as you do.  The most fundamental point of "The United States of America" is the idea that the government's legitimacy is generated by the consent of the governed.  Everyone knew that the American people wanted no part of Obamacare through consistent polling over the course of a year and every Dem in the Senate voted to jam it down our throats anyway.  They willfully violated our country and that rape destroys any claim any of them makes to patriotism.

Inouye represents a very liberal state.  I don't know what the polling on OCare showed in HI but I wouldn't be surprised to find that they favored it. 

Part of what we have been screaming about for the last 2 years is that the Dems ignored their constituents in voting for this abomination.  Do you know for a fact that Inouye did that?  If not, then he was doing what we all say we want our representatives to do.

I think he's going to lose. Two polls that came out have shown him to be at 40% or lower, with his challenger at a statistical dead heat. Political prognostics (or whatever they're called) have him as likely D, but I think they just assume a hispanic incumbent in a D friendly district will win. But from what I here, people in AZ-7 are pissed at Grijalva for calling a boycott against his own state. What kind of retard would do that? Especially because of a law that is extremely popular?

It would help if Rossi would at least act like he wanted the seat. In the debate Rossi looked bored and uninterested - like he didn't want to be there. That's not exactly the way to create enthusiasm.

BTW, the race is much closer than what some Elway/CNN polls have shown. The Elway poll is laughable, while the CNN poll was taking at the exact same time as Rasmussen, which had dead heat. I trust Ras over CNN anytime.

That's you.   There are many Dems that are horrified at what their party has become.  Progressives have taken that party way further to the left than many are comfortable with.   Some actually believe that there needs to be a check on power that has run rampant the last couple years.   Plus, you forget the # of independents that voted in '08 that are not at all happy with what they've seen happen.

If the country truly has swung to 53% conservative, as the lastest polls indicate, the Dems are in for a world of hurt.    That poll, also, showed that there are less liberals & less independents than there were in '08.   If the poll is true, then where did the liberals & independents go?   Not to vote Dem, I would imagine.

I wouldn't get to excited about the Washington Poll. It's done by UW Professors, it's registered voters only and they never release the party weighting from their polls.

Basically they take the voter registration rolls and start calling people until they get the result they want.

143 Evening.  Gawd, I'm both psyched and tired.  Just spent a gorgeous afternoon working at our Tea Party.  Big crowd, great speakers, great music, amazing having the Sons of Liberty ride in and ride before the stand just before everything began, weird having a television camera about a foot in front of my face, having another camera in my and D'oh's faces as we were speaking with Ray McKinney, who is hopefully going to kick John Barrow's ass to the curb, and great seeing so many people I know show up who I never dreamed were conservatives.

I'm just getting the hang of reading polls -- when the poll provides enough data to evaluate its "objectivity" -- so take this with a grain of salt.

I tracked down the poll in question. It was a poll of 500 registered voters, but no information was given regarding the party breakdown of those polled. Margin of error is quoted as being +/-4.3%. Just looking at the phrasing of the questions and the selections available for answers makes me doubt about its accuracy.
