— Ace Drew and I were invited up to Boston to enjoy the... let's not jinx this, the results, foul or fair.
So we'll be doing what we normally do -- swiping headlines from Hot Air and Drudge -- but we'll be doing it at a cool place, so like, bonus value or something.
I'm taking the train, I'm pretty sure, and can access the internet through my phone, so there shouldn't be much downtime as far as blogging. I'll be able to blog en route.
One thing: Because I may be trying to do other stuff there -- like maybe interview a campaign staffer -- tips should be sent to both the aceofspadeshq address, and the morontips account. Morontips is an account all the cobloggers have access to -- it's morontips at gmail. With the dot, and then the com. That way none of the good tips will get lost in the shuffle.
A guy who'll also be covering the event wrote me:
Let me just say that voting for Scott Brown this morning was a lot like sex. The first time was so fun, I'd like to do it again and again and again.* searches web for local ACORN office *
If you voted, please share!
BTW: I blew off the convention in 2008, because I figured it would be lame. (Didn't realize Palin was going to rock the house like that.)
This is the first big-timey thing I'm going to. It's like the Super Bowl.
Fingers crossed.

Also, boston.com has a link to provide feedback from your polling place. One person wrote to say there were instructions in every booth on how to select Coakley and fill in the ballot correctly.

One never knows. I still believe that Brown will have to overcome at least 100,000 fake votes for Coakley to win this thing. If Brown wins the election day vote and Coakley carries 85% of the absentee ballots, we'll know the fix was in.

I heard a radio spot on the ABC Radio News at the top of the hour yesterday, which had a spot with a local octagenarian woman in a senior center after a Frank rally. She said, and I quote, "I'm sick and tired of the Republicans raping me, over and over."
I literally did not know what to make of that.

Voted this morning at 8:45 AM. I live in the city of Boston, in the very blue neighborhood of Dorchester. Not uncommon to see a Dem get 75% of the vote in my precinct.
Two years ago, I voted for John McCain at roughly the same time in the morning, and I was about the 300th person to register their vote. Today, I was vote #80.
Could be that the Coakley camp is struggling with their GOTV effort today.

You can change 100,000 to 1,000,000 really easily with a computer these days.
I didn't think those people who mistrusted diebold were necessarily far off the mark. No, Bush didn't use diebold to steal Florida... but it's just shitty that we let computers tabulate the vote. Shitty and unnecessary. Meanwhile, outright voter fraud and indimidation is almost never prosecuted, and when someone tries to make it harder to steal election, the democrats flip the fuck out.
There's a reason JFK's granddad, Mr Fitzgerald, was convicted of vote fraud. There's a reason Ed Schultz begs people to commit vote fraud. There's a reason democrat election judges will nearly uniformly never compare the absentee voter roles with the list of people walking in on election day, while the democrats demand an ever increasing number of absentee ballots sent to God knows where.
They are voting illegally. They are registering illegaly. They aren't taking those risks for nothing. We aren't seeing districts with more voters than people for nothing. Voting fraud is effective. There is no way to stop it unless the GOP takes this last chance it may ever have, if it even wins in 2010, to severely curtail fraud. Huge penalties, an agency dedicated to finding fraud. Consistent election laws throughout the country that take away the potential. Delays in announcing results or districts talking to eachother about results (so that someone can come up with just the number of ballots needed to swing an election). All results announced at the same time with minimal people privy to the results internally.
But we tried it already, and the democrats stopped it. There's a reason Georgia is barred, by the DOJ, from complying with the HAVA... it would make it harder to commit voter fraud.
It's not a punchline anymore. IF we lose respect for elections, things will get bloody. Even the democrats should accept that we need absolutely truthful vote counts.

BOSTON | On Monday, an Irish bookie paid off bettors who had wagered that state Sen. Scott Brown, a conservative Republican, would win the special election for the Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat held for nearly 50 years by liberal Democratic icon Edward M. Kennedy.
"Enough is enough. It seems that Senator Brown just has to get out of bed tomorrow to win convincingly. As far as we're concerned, this race is well and truly over," said Paddy Power, Ireland's largest bookmaker, 24 hours before the actual election.
Before shutting down the betting, Mr. Brown had gone from 5-4 odds to 1-5 (meaning if a bettor put down $5, they only stood to make $1 if Mr. Brown wins). The odds against his opponent — Democrat Martha Coakley, the state's attorney general — soared, from 4-7 to win to 3-1 to lose.

My prediction remains Scott Brown by 17 points (I guess that means % too?). This is going to be a rout. Kennedy gets 2%. People are too scared of Obama to dally with 3rdP candidates; sort of like what happened in NJ.

A Democratic operative familiar with Martha Coakley and the DSCC's massive get-out-the-vote operation says that outreach workers in and around Boston have been stunned by the number of Democrats and Obama supporters who are waving them off, saying they'll vote for Scott Brown.

I hear ya, Hatchet. Latham in Ames isn't a bad rep, either. King makes the lib's heads explode, so he's got that going for him. Too bad Ganske had to retire, and leave the door open for Boswell. Who knows, maybe someone can unseat him this year. Jim Gibbons, the ex wrestling coach from Iowa State is running on the R side.

I blew off the convention in 2008, because I figured it would be lame.
Learn, then:
1. The convention itself is always a sanitary, orderly event made for television. Nobody but delegates, candidates, and newbies angle for floor passes.
2. It's the peripheral, invitation-only stuff -- in 2008, the small-venue Sammy Hagar and Smashmouth concerts, the open-bar nightclubs, the buffets -- that you fight to get into. It's never lame when there are more parties going on than you can possibly attend. (I came home with more cigars than I left with.)
3. The mood in 2008 was awful, though there were high points. Reminds me of the old maxim that there are two reasons to drink: because you're happy, or because you're sad. Pick your reason. Just drink. Especially if someone else is getting the tab.

I've met Steve King up at the Clay County Fair several years ago, and was impressed by what I saw. I knew Latham years ago when I was doing campaign work in NW Iowa; he is good people. Right now I'm thinking that Boswell will develop a desire to spend more time with his family down in Decatur County after he figures out how poorly his vote for DemonCare is playing.

The Kennedys are Catholic-Catholic on matters of economic equality, but they're Cafeteria Catholic on abortion.
To his credit, the late Edward M Kennedy did write to the Pope pledging his support to carve out rights of conscience exemptions for health care workers that actually follow and hold true to their religious convictions.

Che 273, in the history of Massachusetts sociology, we may find that the time of Democratic machine politics - including the Kennedys - was an artifact of Irish immigration and of the textile mills. Now that the Irish are "just another kind of American" - which admittedly took awhile in Southie - and with the decay of private-sector unions, Massachusetts will evolve into (effectively) two states: local-issue communitarian villages, and an extended Puritan college town clustered around Harvard etc.
Basically how it was in the late 1700s.
Massachusetts could go back to Republicanism if the national party relearns how to speak Yankee.

It's an AP prediction. I assume it is based on polling pre-election and how the townships have voted before and on exit polling. Remember when they predicted early that Kerry won in 2004 based on early exit polling? Also, who people tell you they voted for and who they voted for are two different things.

That's how you record the votes, not how you tabulate them. Again, how would you tabulate them? Anybody with a cursory knowledge of database design could come up with a perfect, verifiable and auditable system to record votes and have results very quickly. Technology is not your enemy; the paper ballot system has been gamed in the past by luminaries like Lyndon Baines Fuckface Johnson and nobody did a goddamn thing about it. Until there are very real penalties for vote fraud, such as going to jail for a very long time, cocksuckers will continue to game the system no matter how you tabulate the votes.
