— Ace Apparently I'm missing some nuance.
Most members of the media, both liberal and conservative, expressed outrage over Sherrod’s sacking and the unfair media coverage that followed. Keith Olbermann denounced the “political guillotine” of Fox News and Breitbart, and the conservative desire to “convict the benevolent as racist.” It was important, Olbermann maintained, to remember that facts matter and that hyperbolic bloggers who end up treating their quarry like Danton should be humiliated...Even Sherrod, having just observed the consequences of sloppily charging people with racism, told CNN that Breitbart “knew what effect [the video] would have on the conservative, racist people he's dealing with.” And as the scripted media introspection and the rehearsed “conversations” about race were inaugurated by those who already knew the answers, blogger and former Journolist member Matt Yglesias was falsely accusing libertarian economist Arnold Kling of racism—the second time Kling has had to endure the toxic charge. But Kling, unlike Sherrod, is an enemy.
If all this counted as a teachable moment, it is unclear who the students were.

The 'students' or participants to the teachable moment don't matter. We the public were forced into that convocation. It was a trainwreck and yet again Obama comes out looking like the dumbass.
For those of us paying attention, it's been glaringly obvious the Progressives running roughshot over the Constitution and the will of the American people have absolutley no clue what they're doing. Instead of focusing on their shortcomings, lies, and all-out tomfoolery, they're doubling down on stupid and finding (what they think) is a scapegoat on the Tea Parties and the raaaaaaacism.
Apparently they are not reading the memo that only the fringe loons on the left care about the straw-man race issue.
Most of us are stuck in traffic on the highway looking at 'putting America back to work' roadsigns wondering why our unemployment is over 10 percent if America was truly 'back to work'. But keep telling yourselves this conversation matters, asswipses.

The West Wing white guys who pushed to ditch Shirley Sherrod before Glenn Beck could pounce not only didnÂ’t bother to Google, they werenÂ’t familiar enough with civil rights history to recognize the name Sherrod. And they didnÂ’t return the calls and e-mail of prominent blacks who tried to alert them that something was wrong.

There has to be a more precise word or definition as to what happened this week.
Racist? Just what DOES it mean?
What Mrs. Sherrod said and did may not be racism in the same sense as "separate but equal" , "the back of the bus" and a lot of other ugly things, but is was something.
What was it? What is the word we should use to describe it? The reverse preferences, the agreement of the NAACP, and frankly the aimlessly silly things she said again this week, which no one in the MFM is going to examine beyond "she was wronged".
And Fox News got her fired. Huh?
It must have been Bush's fault.

So, Walter, I guess good policy decisions should be based on how angry guys like you are about how much money other people are making....
To be honest, I don't give a flying f*ck about what marginal tax rate a rich guy pays. That's because I know that the EFFECTIVE TAX RATE that the richest 1% of Americans pay has stayed nearly constant (at about 25%) over the course of the last 50 years, in spite of massively fluctuating marginal tax rates.
Over the course of my tax-paying lifetime, I've paid an effective INCOME TAX rate of around 10% - so I guess I'm getting a bit of a deal as far as that particular tax is concerned.
The bigger issue - which I'm sure you'll miss - is the SIZE and EFFICIENCY OF GOVERNMENT. Limit the size of government and you limit the amount of revenue needed to sustain it. Limit the size of government and you ensure that private citizens have more freedom.
Of course, freedom is intolerable to a leftist like yourself, I'm sure - unless you're referring to "freedom from suffering the consequences of one's own actions." Leftists are BIG on that type of freedom.

I, for one, will not enjoy watching the mass layoffs of workers by rich people who can't afford to keep them on after the tax cuts expire, and by companies whose sales to those rich people will plummet. (Although to the extent that some of those workers were calling for the tax cuts to expire to cut the deficit, I might confess to a frisson of Schadenfreude.)

What is the purpose of having unions now other than to continually negotiate high wages and benefits and make it so you can't ever fire anyone. That's all they do. It inflates the cost of union goods and services and makes it so they're not competitive. Union wages and benefits do not fit into the normal private sector wage and benefit structure. We'd all be better off without unions.

Walter, only ONE problem with your remarks:
I am a teacher. My parents were both teachers. Two of my three brothers are teachers.
Being a teacher does not mean that a person needs to be a brainless, union-hack, know-nothing with zero understanding of basic economics.
Yes. My job is meaningful and necessary in a free society, but being a teacher is NOWHERE near as important as being a soldier.
As a teacher, I am reasonably compensated, and I have great healthcare. I work hard, and I'm a good teacher, but I'm not so ignorant as to believe that I am irreplaceable.
Our military, on the other hand, is absolutely necessary for the preservation of this republic, yet its members are generally poorly compensated and are forced to deal with the contempt of fools like yourself.
Walter, I have to listen to a few simpletons like you on a daily basis in the teacher's lounge. One of the greatest joys of my profession is pointing out the arrogance and stupidity of the few teachers (and it is really only a few) who think that they are God's gift to America and should be paid six figure salaries and uniformly worshipped and adored.

The caged bird is caged because it's in a cage
Has thus been from age to age
and to complain about the cage when the
door is crushed can only come from that bird
which cannot fly from the cage.
The freebird flies free in winter too
when food is scarce and life precarious
and it would comfort him to have a master
who would fill his needs so various.
But the caged bird returns to his cage
when he is hungry because the winds are cold
and sings songs of woe that show their masters
that they prefer the days of old
Cages need not be made of whips or steel to
be nonetheless so real
when one returns to the cage just for satiation
When one refuses to leave the plantation.
So let us sing of Freedom! Of the Free Soaring Bird
as so many do when seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!
Freeeeeeeeeeee Biiiiiiiiirddddd!!!!!

Now, everyone knows that the bureaucrats are unmitigated failures at everything they try to do, but the liberal is motivated by unlimited fear of the uncertainty of freedom-- they want assurances, even when they come from the incompetents of government. They want that promise that government delivers by legislating 'it shall be so.'
And, of course, when reality fails to conform to legislation, when it becomes a constant juggling act of regulation, enforcement, coercion, and outright fraud to keep government's plates spinning all at the same time, the liberal is still unwilling to abandon the system because of that small amount of uncertainty that the free market entails.
They're gutless chickenshits who welcome the boot on their necks if it comes with a promise of security.

History suggests that the good leaders are the only ones who face (and survive, or don't) attempts on them.
Moreover, the brain-dead thumb-suckers on the left don't have the capacity for anything more violent than WoW. They can get all stoked up by intellectual heavyweights like Al Franken, but reach their limits with uttering threats aimed at Bush 43 and expressing glee with the notion of Limbaugh's demise.

Your lovely Dem party is a party of graft, vice, and crime, but it does sprinkle the crumbs down to keep the underclass as their treasured pet voters-- it just never does anything more that might elevate them out of that captive dependency. I want some more information about Sherrod's father's murder. She claims that there was a mysterious "group of whites" that murdered him. Well, since KKK-insoired crimes have been solved decades after the fact (I've lived in a community in Mississippi where, happily, the racist perpetrator of the murders was jailed over thirty years after the fact), I certainly would believe that a reexamination of the facts should be reinvestigated.
That entire meme should be looked at since she brings it out like a hammer to beat on critics, but doesn't seem to be too interested in getting either justice or clarification of the crime, which seems to fly in the face of reason.

Actually he was killed in a dispute over some cows by a white neighbor. There was no KKK or other group involved. It was investigated by a grand jury and no true bill was issued. Whether or not there was "racism" involved in that ruling has not been shown.
The cross burning was a different story as was the killing of a different relative.
All of these things she has hauled up as evidence of being the victim of racism have been accepted "as is" by the MFM without any verification at all.
But don't expect there to be. She has been effectively immunized against all contrary investigation.

Her dad was a deacon, which made him a factor in the area. Let's hear from other folks and get a better view of the attitudes at that time in her town.

What does the NAACP and the other groups have as proof of racism in or by the Tea Party movement? Precious little that has not been severely tainted by the known actions of groups determined to damage the Tea Party through Alinsky-like tactics.

Bikermailman,
I think we are in a 1937-like situation. It could get very violent, very fast. However, do not underestimate the power of instant, worldwide communications (even if 90% of all of it is bullshzt). Obama's lies are getting obnoxious even to the left (the Lockerbie one is indefensible). Also, do not forget the Second Amendment. Those two things make a purge or a takeover, even by such a fool as Obama, highly unlikely.
I'm thinking things are more positive than the Neville Chamberlain days. Especially with regard to "race."

You know what's a disturbing signal? When a "respected commentator" like Tom Friedman can speak admiringly of Red China's one-party dictatorship and wistfully of what might be accomplished in America if only we had something similar.
You're already seeing an example in the National Popular Vote movement, which wants to enforce allocation of all state electoral votes by the national popular vote. Massachusetts is on the verge of adopting this proposal as state law, effectively saying that Massachusetts voters ought not to express their own will independently. That seems tobe driven by the impulse that the majority ought to have unfettered rule without the inconvenience of a minority opposition -- that is, one-party rule.

I got a 38 for the Frau. It's an appropriate weapon for a woman. Frankly, and I say this as a misogynist bastard, a woman is far less likely to put in the range time necessary to become proficient with a semi auto. It's the "mechanical thing", obviously. They make up for it with the blood thirsty viciousness of a woman defending her kids.

Well, the fact is that making shit go boom in your hand is a guy thing. That's not sexist or anything, despite my jokes otherwise, but just a statement of how God made us. Hell, a buddy called me tonight from the road (truck driver) to drive 10 miles to town to blow up his wife's leaking tire with the compressor he knew I had in my trunk. How many of you women have a compressor in your trunk? We're different.
A revolver fits a woman nicely because of 1.) Infinite predictability and reliability, and 2) mechanical simplicity. I like them too for the same reason, but the semi auto is more complex. It also has more holes-in-the-ass potential.
And Lee Paige just emailed to say he's the only one professional enough to handle one, so there's that, too.

Lesson: Don't piss off Mom.

Herr..are you familiar with Target World in Tri-County??
I was there one early weekday morning a few weeks back ...and I swear this is true..this dude and his girl were in the end stall away from the entrance..and she pulled down her tube top and fired away with what sounded like a .45..while he took pictures with his cell camera

Yes. I don't really have a reason to go there since I live in such a rural area and have other family with good places to shoot. But your story doesn't surprise me.

I was maybe six or so, and a big group of us kids were playing, looked up into the big oak tree out front, saw a snake about eight feet up in the tree. We go get mom, she brings out her little .22 revolver (she didn't like firing the 12 ga shotgun) and proceeds to put three rounds out of three into the thing from maybe 20 feet away, bringing it down. Then has my older brother hack the head off with the hoe. We still talk about her being a god about that.

I have a 22 revolver I wouldnt trade for a kidnapped kid. It's incredible. I carry it if i have trapline out. A couple years ago I was hauling a load of raccoon out of a deep gulley and took a seat halfway up the hill to catch my breath. About 70 yds away (yes, yards) a squirrel was fucking around, and I decided to try a head shot.
I had to walk down that fucking hill and get that squirrel, and then back up, and I still had to haul a 1/2 dozen coon out of there. It was funny. I figured I didn't have a chance to hit it, and I hit it right where I aimed.

Ms Sherrod was not the only racist in the room.

You're right, in one way.
On the other hand, I can see what you're getting at. There's a New York Times article you should see....
And Duane "Generalissimo" Patterson!!!

Breitbart wasn't targeting Sherrod to begin with. The rest of the video was irrelevant to his point. The reaction of the crowd to her hateful racist acts (and her little grin) was the point: these people are hateful bigots. It was a response to the "tea party is racist" stupid lie. AND YOU GUYS KEEP AGREEING WITH THE LEFT as they totally misrepresent Breitbart. Good God.
Stupid party indeed.

Possible answer a:
Racism is a particular form of stupidity where the racist sees and feels and interprets EVERYTHING that happens, particularly political events and public policy questions, in terms of race. Everything. It's all about race, it's all because of race, it's all in service of a racial agenda. By this definition, every "race-baiter" (I'm looking at YOU, Shirley Shabazz Sherrod, and especially at you Janeane Garofolo, you stupid cunt) IS a racist. Not just in practical terms, but clinically.
Possible answer b:
A racist is just a sleazy opportunist who seeks to divide Americans against one another in pursuit of political goals or personal aggrandizement. Again, all "race-baiters" (I'm looking at YOU Ben Jealous, Howard Dean, Eric Holder, etc etc etc) qualify as racists, at least in practical terms.

Heh. Reminds me...
The genetic difference between Homo Sapiens Sapiens and Pan paniscus is 2%. Two per-cent.
Alla us humans are ninety-eight percent genetically identical to Bonobo Chimpanzees.
Kind of puts the whole "racial differences" thang in a different light, eh?
