— Ace This is Ruth McClung's ad, but anyone can use the basics of it.
The Democrats' biggest liability is their reckless spending.
Their greatest strength is the undue trust people have in them to preserve Social Security.
This ad nukes that notion by hitting them hard on spending away Social Security.
Oh and here's an email from an Arizona resident named Patrick:
New poll at Real Clear Politics from Magellan Strategies on Arizona's CD7 race between Raul "Boycott AZ" Grijalva (D) and political newcomer, rocket scientist Ruth McClung (R)...Poll show Grijalva ahead 40% - 38%.... but look closely at the poll data. I live here and can tell you the excitement for McClung is same as for Kelly (R) vs Gifford (D) in AZ CD 8 race (tied). Kelly will win that race and I believe McClung will pull off one of the mid-terms most unforeseen victories.
The internal poll data shows people disliking Grijalva. I believe that for this telephone poll, participants aren't willing to voice out loud their plans to vote for McClung because she's so new and unknown. However, the poll shows a very high interest/desire for voters willing to go with "someone new".
Interesting. And from all the commercials airing here, Grijalva is running scared.

If so, it's not a bad plan. I really think that Republicans' answer to "You want to Privatize Social Security!" or "You want to Gamble Grampa's retirement in the Stock Market!" should be, "No, I want you to decide what you get to do with your money. If you want to put 13% of your Gross income into a savings account getting an average of 2% interest, go ahead. I'll be over here putting my 13% into this nice Mutual Fund with an average gain -since inception- of 12%."

I look back on 2008 and I look at the polls for 2010 and it's like I've woken up in a completely different country. If November 2nd jives with the polls, we will be witness to something historic ... and strange. The National Spanking of 2010 ... followed by a Mass Pudding Immersion complete with flaming skulls. What a way to celebrate Halloween.

Because they want to see where the security catches them, if it does. If the synagogues and other actually received the items, they'd know the security failed end to end. I would not be surprised if they had confederates waiting for the packages, ready to intercept them at delivery, so that the targets remained in the dark if and when the packages were delivered.

1) Synagogues often have security to watch out for boomy SUVs. Especially at the High Holy Days and other times when lots of people are there.
2) There are in fact a few Jews left in Yemen. It is not automatically going to cause the office worker in the synagogue (who may not be Jewish and may not be ultra-up on his or her Arab terror hotspots) to call the FBI just because the package came from Yemen. Further, don't underestimate the ability of a Rabbi or other synagogue functionary to self-censor any idea that a package must be suspicious just because it comes from an Arab country.
3) Depending on how the devices are supposed to be detonated, it may be enough that the thing gets inside the door. Especially, say, on a Friday afternoon, where it may sit in the office all through the Friday-night-to- Saturday-sundown Sabbath --for example, just waiting for the Saturday services to fill up before being set off by cell phone.

I could be wrong (and I'm too lazy to double-check) but IIRC, its because requiring the prosecution to prove that there was even a crime was a new concept when Habeas Corpus was first introduced.
Until then, the Crown could have you locked up for anything for any amount of time and never even had to prove any crime had been committed.
Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) at October 29, 2010 11:24 AM (8y9MW)
Can one you historians tell me why habeas corpus is called 'the Great Writ?"
comes from English common law in response to the King Charles I and a case called Darnell. Darnell involved five noblemen who were thrown into a dungeon for failing to support the country's war a/g Spain and France. they filed suit a/g the King asking him to explain their imprisonment. King refused. Court sided with the Crown. Public outcry created prompted Parliment to create HC following that case.

You should understand the propaganda value of a successful attack on a synagogue. It would represent a "blow to the international Zionist enemy."
Note that Iran sponsored the bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires in 1994 and that Pakistani Islamofascists made sure the terror targets in the November 2008 Mumbai attack included the Chabad House visitor center. Killing Jews anywhere under any circumstances is considered a proxy for attacking Israel.
And hell, if you're looking for a sensible purpose to their actions, you're going to be chronically frustrated. Why, for example, do they insist on bombing Sufi mosques and shrines? Do they really believe that doing so will cause all Sufi Muslims to revise their beliefs and become Salafist Sunnis?

A company I worked for a few years ago consolidated FedEx accounts to a single corporate account, but one kept showing activity. They put a hold on the account and routed any packages shipped on that account to the billing address. About 2 weeks later they got a 20 lb. box. It was addressed to an office building in Houston from McAllen, TX Saturday Delivery. Inside the box was a black, shrinkwrapped substance covered in some type of lotion or scented liquid. Inside the shrink wrap was a 20 lb ball of pot. The recipient would wait for the FedEx truck to show up to a closed office building and intercept the package and would simply sign J. Garcia.

Well, sure. But it's stupid. It achieves nothing but pissing off two of the most powerful countries in the world, and one of them is the most powerful in that region. It does nothing to diminish those countries' ability to make war against them. It's a waste of resources. Does not compute. Their only real, concrete victory using terror was in Spain (at least in the recent past).

Do you mean this Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ)?
Raúl began his public career as a community organizer when he joined with several other advocates to start El Rio Community Health Center. During his time at El Rio, Raúl worked with other activists to "encourage" local governments to "invest" in older and minority neighborhoods. He helped organize "neighborhood empowerment efforts" that prompted the city of Tucson to expand services to the south and west sides...
...From 1974 to 1986, Raúl served on the Tucson Unified School District. He was a hands-on board member who worked to increase funding and support for public education, and who advocated on behalf of teacher, employee and civil rights (Unions & La Raza)...
...Since his election to Congress in 2002, Raúl has worked to improve the quality of life for working families by promoting minimum wage increases, supporting legislation to prevent intimidation, and pushing to help employees organize and represent themselves in the workplace.
And in case you were wondering about the demographics in his chunk of a red state:
The southern boundary of District 7 coincides with 300 miles of the US/Mexico border. Only TexasÂ’ 23rd district has a longer stretch of the southern border.
The urban center of District 7 contains the central, south and west sides of the city of Tucson (The shootier and stabbier bits). The population within the district is predominantly working-class families, from a variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds. The majority of TucsonÂ’s Hispanic, urban Native American and African-American residents live in the 7th congressional district.
I'm really quite curious about this "strong candidate" that the tea party is supporting. I ain't heard a peep of a real contender going up against the asshat in his district. Unfortunately, I fear that Grievance Grijalva is as well ensconced in his patch as any other race-hustler / poverty pimp from a big blue state city.

I was at a Walgreens in South Tucson tonight (heavily illigal and hispanic) and someone gave me a "thumbs up" for my Jesse Kelly bumper sticker. I was expecting another digit. I was flipped off by a guy on the east side the other day with a bumper sticker that said, "Beastiality - when a human has sex with a Republican." Strange days are afoot.
I work with lots of hispanics who are sick of Raul the Walrus around here too. They don't enjoy watching thier kid's jobs being stolen by illegals and the drug gang violence here is getting worse - no matter how the news tries to spin it. Hispanics here also resent being pandered to by the Walrus and Dems.
I crused by Walrus/Tarantula headquarters yesterday and there were people checking in folks for walks - saw a few of the local homeless lined up. The word on the street is the Grijalva campain/SEIU is paying people to canvas. Ruth is asking for canvasers also, but appologizing for not being able to pay them. Ha!
Tucson Tea Party and Pima County GOP are having a watch party on Tuesday night. Thinking I might have to venture over. There is a 7-11 in the parking lot of the DoubleTree if I remember right. I hope they have their Slurpee stock built up.

I hope Ms McClung plans on supporting some sort of SS reform, because it's unsustainable as it's currently configured.
