How Does My Garden Grow? With the Power of Interpretive Dance!
— Jack M.

You know who knows a heck of a lot about farming? Michelle Obama.

And you know what every good farmer knows? Screw sun, soil, water, fertilizer and insecticide...all you really need to do to ensure a bountiful crop is bust a righteous move.

Don't believe me? Wouldja believe the "Christian Science Monitor"? (You have to. It's Good Friday and if you don't you'll go to Hell. Ah, y'all are probably all heathen pagans anyway.)

She told the students that no matter where people live or how old they may be, they can still garden, noting the fun of spending time outdoors and digging in the dirt.

To illustrate that point, the first lady knelt in the 1,500-square-foot garden and planted two rows of broccoli as well as some rhubarb.

After the rhubarb was in the ground Mrs. Obama and some of the children performed what she called a "growing dance" around the wooden planter. The group chanted "grow, rhubarb, grow" several times, then circled the planter and finished by throwing their hands in the air.

White House assistant chef Sam Kass, who oversees the garden, joined in for the last round of the dance.

Here is a picture of the harvest ritual for any doubters that remain:

Now many of you probably think I am going to bust on the First Lady for indoctrinating little school children in Druidic cultural norms. But I'm not. It would be hypocritical, after all. I have a lvl 80 Druid in Warcraft. Instead, I'm going to suggest a few ways that Mrs Obama may wish to help out other aspects of the White House agenda with her innovative example. For example, as Drew's post below shows, the economy could use a jolt. I think Mrs. Obama should gather some Treasury Department staffers and surround Tim Geithner chanting "Grow Economy Grow". It would probably look like this:

A word of caution, however. Since I believe that Friedman was correct when he asserted that "inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon", I would ask that you keep some distance from the U.S. Mint when you do this. Just in case. Thanks.

And how about the shortage of general practice doctors which Obamacare will exacerbate? Maybe you could gather around Secretary Sibelius and chant "Grow GP's Grow". If you did, this might give you a template from which to work:

As an added bonus, maybe some of the new Doc's will know a little something about coronary care too.

Finally, how about the Stock Market? My 401(k) still hasn't recovered to its former levels, and since most Americans are invested in the market in one way, shape or form, I think we could all get around the notion of seeing some pretty substantial growth there too. Why, were you to gather around a copy of the Wall Street Journal chanting "Grow Market Grow", we would all be rich tomorrow! Here's a little primer for your effort:

Trust me, no one who sees that remains unchanged. The market would have no choice but to grow. Or commit suicide. But I'm an optimist, at heart.

So there you have it, Mrs. Obama. "Grow Rhubarb Grow" may not quite ring like "Drill Baby Drill" but you are definitely on to something, I think.

But I am sure that a woman from the upper class society of Chicago is a real expert in farming.  Yes, she will rank right up there with Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor in Hooterville.

As much as I dislike Barack, Michelle creeps me out even more.  Barack seems to me like a leftist egomaniac.  Michelle seems like that as well, but I think she is also a bit touched.  I'm not sure she has all her bolts tightened.

Drudge dug up another great angry photo of Michelle here.  These photos are great.

Even funnier was when Maxim ranked Michelle #93 on the Hottest 100 Ladies in 2009.  That was a hoot.

You're on a mission and you're wishin'
for someone could cure you're gardens condition
You're lookin' for arugula in all the wrong places
No fine cucumbers just ugly faces
From frustration first inclination
Is to become a wookie and leave the situation
But every dark garden has a light of change & hope
So don't hang yourself with an artichoke
New crop is showin'... so you're goin
Couldnt care less about the five you're blowin
garden gets dark just to start the show
When you spot a fine squash sittin' in the front row
She's dressed in yellow, she says "Hello,
Come sit next to me you fine fellow"
You run over there without a second to lose
And what comes next, hey bust a move

You might be true about the particulars of Druidism, but nature-worship has been around for a long time.  Dennis Prager wrote a very good column about that here.

From the column:

This was extremely difficult for men to assimilate [at the time of the book of Genesis]. And as society drifts from Judeo-Christian values, it is becoming difficult to assimilate again today. Major elements in secular Western society are returning to a form of nature worship. Animals are elevated to equality with people, and the natural environment is increasingly regarded as sacred. The most extreme expressions of nature worship actually view human beings as essentially blights on nature.

Secular leftists like this fancy themselves as "progressives".  But this type of nonsense is actually extremely REgressive... in fact thousands of years so.  As Prager says, it is odd that the "liberal" would venerate nature in this way:

Why would people who value compassion, kindness or justice venerate nature? The notions of justice and caring for the weak are unique to humanity. In the rest of nature, the weak are to be killed. The individual means nothing in nature; the individual is everything to humans. A hospital, for example, is a profoundly unnatural, indeed antinatural, creation; to expend precious resources on keeping the most frail alive is simply against nature.

I know that Michelle isn't exactly leading a worship service of Nature here, but this stuff is pretty weird.  It distresses me to see the First Lady doing this type of crap.  Like I said, I think she is a bit touched.

Actually, I have to try very hard not to give women the stink eye for silly antics like this in public. I'm not alone in NY, either. It's annoying when you are on the train, minding your own business, and some hippie gets their kids singing Itsy Bitsy Spider over and over again and jumping all over the place. Children are cuter when you let them be themselves, instead of indoctrinating them and trying to coopt their youth. These adults should be embarrassed.
