How To Put Together A TV News Package
— DrewM

It's based on the Brit model (the early walk and talk is more of Brit thing than the tradition middle of the package US stand up) but it's pretty much spot on for what you see on most news casts, local and national.

Thanks to "Ace of Spades" for the link (and "Dario" who apparently sent it to him).

1 It's like porn, but without the naked chicks.  Or the viewers.

2 I'd rather be talking about Kyl's latest pronouncement that the Dems are most certainly going nuclear on healthcare.

What kind of lame-ass name is that?

6 O/T:  Jindal is kicking ass on Hannity.

7 Isn't there a water skiing squirrel involved somehow?

8 Reminds me of ZeroPunctuation at The Escapist. (If you play computer games, drop everything NAO and google those terms.)

Oh, I guess it IS slow.

10 It's a shame Jindal comes off like a goofy nerd on tv.  We the people love our flashy, shiny, empty headed celebrities-as-leaders.  Exhibit A:  Barky.

11 None of you people have heard of Charlie Brooker before? Go Google some torrents of all his Newswipe episodes; they're all this bastardy and pretty much correct about how the news business is shit. There's something fully dippable in just about every episode. Keep an eye out for appearances by Barry Shitpeas. Also look for torrents of his Screenwipe show. It's about TV in general, and just as good.

12 The news would be better if there were more lasers.

13 That was full of win. Not up to The Onion, but pretty good.

And squirrels. Water skiing. Being eaten by happy dogs swimming.

15 He just single handedly put Olby out of a job.  Bastard took Olbys entire audience.  Both of them.

18 Thanks!  Now we'll be flooded with people who think "I can do that!".
I imagine Obama thought the same thing after seeing Clinton on TV.

19 Well that's the retail presentation of the sausage-making. When will someone do the stockroom presentation of it... you know, the journalist poseurs teaming with political hacks dressed as editors filtering the appropriate Leni Riefenstahl issue and story to be put on the shelf?

Still, pretty funny piece coming from the BBC. Those Brits luvs their dry wit. Python and Black Adder fans sated.

25 I don't get it.  ??

26 Jindal is really a wonk.  He could probably give Obama a few good ideas on reforming health care in America, lowering costs, increasing supply, tearing down market barriers, and inducing a more competitive market.

But he can't get a meeting with Obama.  Andy Stern can get 52 of them.

33 None of you people have heard of Charlie Brooker before?

I'm a fan of current British comedy, and Charlie Brooker is hilarious.  First saw him on a panel show (Buzzcocks or Have I got news for you), but dl'ed Screenwipe, which was brilliant.  Newswipe has been good, too -- I'll put him on my short list with people like David Mitchell and Stephen Fry in terms of "if he's on, I won't switch it off."

36 Looked like just about every CNN report I've ever seen.  For even more authenticity, you just go back to the studio with the reporter, "live," where in the three seconds prior to commercial, they talk about how much they learned over the whole episode.

I don't think we ever will.

I bet you could take bits of various movies and make a coherent breaking news story.
