— LauraW Desperation Never Reeked So Sweetly
Steny talks tough to defend Americans from those wicked tax lovin' Republicans:
“We have no intention of allowing the Republican tax increase — that their policies would lead to — to go into effect for working Americans. Period,” he said. “We’re going to act and make sure that the Republican phase out and increase in taxes does not end as they provided for in the laws they passed.”
Catch that, puddin' slurping rethuglikkkan scum? Your evil plan to increase taxes will not succeed as long as Steny 'Fiscal Hawk' Hoyer is standing in your way.
Yes, they really think you are this stupid.
UPDATE FROM COMMENTS:
53 I think NOW would be a good time to remind people that the ONLY reason those tax cuts are sunsetting is because Democrats filibustered making them permanent in the first place.Republicans had to pass the tax cuts through reconciliation as a budget measure which means that they had to sunset per the rules of reconciliation because Democrats refused to even make them IN THE FIRST PLACE.
So yeah, let's TALK about the sunsetting of those tax cuts. I, for one, WELCOME, the discussion.

Also, Steny Hoyer, just last month:
WASHINGTON (AP) - House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Tuesday that tax increases will eventually be necessary to address the nation's mounting debt, [emph. me, -ed.] raising a difficult election-year issue as Democrats fight retain control of Congress.
In the shorter term, Hoyer raised the possibility that Congress will only temporarily extend middle-class tax cuts set to expire at the end of the year. He pointedly suggested that making them permanent would be too costly.

Must be getting old/forgetful. I could have sworn it was the Dims that insisted on an expiration date for the Bush Tax Cuts. Earlier this year, I guess I falsely remembered, the Dims were claiming that letting the tax cuts expire would not be a tax increase.
OK. Pass the Aricept.

Desperation. Pure and simple.
The lies, can you feel 'em.
For years the democrats have railed against the evil "Bush tax cuts".
The same Bush across the board rate cuts that helped boost the economy.
What killed the economy? Fannie and Freddie and Chris Dodd and Barney Frank and the Clinton policies that came to fruition.
Now the democrats are desperate to raise taxes. As we know, the democrats eat, shit, fuck and wet dream about raising taxes. They already have with ObamaCare, which is a huge tax increase. Making sure the Bush tax cuts expire was/is their first order of business.
They will do it, but now the democrats know they have to layer a huge load of lies on top.

So cutting taxes years ago was just an evil plot to raise them now?
Heh! Later in the same article they want to still raise taxes on the 'wealthy:'

According to the Associated Press, Senate Finance Committee Democrats proposed last week to allow the Bush tax cuts for the “wealthy to expire next year while permanently extending the middle-class tax cuts.”

Wait, wait, WAIT.
I thought that whole thing was just all tax cuts for the wealthy?? That's what they said when Bush cut taxes in the first place.
It must be so nice to be Democrat, and be able to rewrite history at will with no one in the press calling you on it.

Jebus, Beck just said that the wait time for an appointment to renounce your American citizenship in Great Britain is 2012! I "scroogled" it and got a whole page of results. Beck said millionaires have told him they know if they want to have anything left after Zero they need to get their money into a bank in Singapore or India. Sounds like some are opting for Canada. If you check any of the Scroogle.org (they don't track your queries like G-o-o-g-l-e does) results, they say that renunciation of citizenship is a prime indication of a fascist state.

The RNC should put together numbers showing all those people who got the "Bush tax cuts" just how much ADDITIONAL taxes they would have paid between now and then if the Democrats had their way and NO tax cuts were made in the first place.
Reminding even those in the lowest tax brackets just how much additional money Democrats TRIED to take out of their pockets over the last decade or so would be DEVASTATING to Democrats.

Republicans have been asking to extend the tax cuts ever since Obama was elected. Democrats said no. Now they're accusing the Republicans of increasing taxes. That's some impressive revisionism.
"The underlying House and Senate Democratic federal budget plans for 2009, though non-binding, drew blasts from Republicans for allowing some or all of Bush's tax cuts to die in about three years." (3/14/2008)
"MR. GREGORY: Let's talk about tax cuts. About a third of his package is made up of tax cuts. Republicans want more. Specifically there's a question about the Bush tax cuts which, of course, expire next year. Does the president want to actually repeal those tax cuts this calendar year?
DR. SUMMERS: I don't think there's any question they have to be repealed. The country can't afford them for the long run." (1/25/2009)

11. When your position can't be substantiated by logic or facts, divert the issue to another topic that defames or attacks your opposition's credibility. It is good if there is little justification to do so, and even better if your spin is full of falsehoods and logical gaps. If you are guilty of something, defend yourself by saying your opponent is guilty of the same crime, even if it there is no truth in the accusation.

That's what I thought, but further reading says these folks might be the most patriotic because they can be the ones to try to "fix" the US from the outside. Another document says that for 10 years after citizenship renunciation you must still pay US taxes! A while ago, I heard that Rangel (!) got through some kind of wacky legislation regarding folks permanently leaving the country as far as freezing their assets. Also, if you look at it from the viewpoint of big money movers and shakers, when and if this Obama mess ends, they'll be the ones who can return and capitalize business start-ups.

The Dems (Hoyer) is referring to the expiring Bush tax cuts and how letting the Bush tax cuts expire would be essentially a Republican tax increase.
What I don't understand is this; I thought that Bush was to blame for everything.
Are we now to believe that Bush, when he cut taxes, was a genius and the only hope now to save Obama's failed economy.

I'm guessing America is finally waking up to the scam. The meteoric slide from grace as indicted by polling trends certainly suggests it.
Besides, all those jobless, funemployed, or soon to be who might be discussing racism are surely discussing their life crisis, too. Guess which carries more weight in spite of the political spin? They'll be seeing November from their cardboard boxes.

I hope that your observation holds generally. I've often thought that people voted for a fad, or 'moment' (first African/Mongrel/Clean/Articulate American). President Pokemon is the manifestation of a fad. If this holds tru, then that moment has passed, and with it, sufficient support to keep him in place. That fact that Dems are already refusing to campaign with him lends credence to this.

I have a wonderful piece on a bank that Obama bailed out in Illinois and a plan to reap billions funneled through it. Why do you think the greatest contributors to politicians are banks? Why do you think politicians gave a trillion dollars of your money away to save them?
It's as simple as money. Money is power. People covet wealth and power, above all else. They prove it, time and time again.
So while us idiots discuss politics, they laugh as they find new ways to steal your money. And disguise them as tax cuts on the "wealthy" or cap and trade, or health care bills, or cash for clunkers which was simply a way to increase fractional reserve requirements for listing banks.
It's always been about money and power. Since the dawn of time. This politics thing, second rate.

I can only ask if Representative Hoyer also pulled out Caesar's will, showing what the stabbed man had planned to donate to the Roman citizenry?
Basically, in a nutshell, we have yet another example that while the Republicans may (and do) have their problem children when it comes to thinking of themselves as some elect class of guardians, they will never come close to matching Democrats in their outright brazeness in believing that it is acceptable to win not just by mangling the truth, but to do so knowing that they are 1.) caught in the act and 2.) relying on a one-party media to make it work anyway.
A Republican may appeal to your prejudices to get your vote. A Democrat will create them for you out of whole cloth.

Do what I do: Whenever a lefty stranger is compelled to share his views with you, steer the conversation to telling him that the increased registration for the 2008 elections has helped a lot with catching criminals. I imply that I'm working on a project for an unspecified law-enforcement agency that cross-checks voter logs at the polls against outstanding warrants to make it easier to round-up crooks on election day.

I don't think a "theocracy" is anything remotely possible, but you know, if the Republicans were ever able (or more importantly, inclined, which they are not as a mass) to do so, it would still be done in the open, via a rule of law process. With Republicans, you would get a 'tyranny' via a process that could be reversed. Because that really is who they are.
A Democrat tyranny would come about over time as a ever-expanding set of people found themselves waking up one day and reading in the paper former allies saying something a lot like Hoyer just said...except about them this time...
In other words, a Democratic tyranny would come about via the continual process of people being 'airbrushed' over time from the conceptual picture of what is decent and what isn't....but an airbrushing by fiat, not a vote.

JEA, you "pay" for it just like in real life. If you take a pay cut or lose your job you don't run out and buy that new $50k Beemer or the 900k house. You don't spend money you don't have on "health care Reform" or give ACORN 8 billion for community organizing. In other words you don't piss it away on crap you can't afford.
I've seen three major tax cuts in my life. First Kennedy and the late 60's were good times. Reagan's tax cuts almost doubled the revenue to the treasury, but the dems pissed it away on crap we didn't need. Bush's cuts also raised revenues but guess who overspent it (hint: it wasn't Bush all by himself). Worry less about "paying for it and more where it goes.

@19: "Hey asshole moderate Republicans,
see how your Democrat "friends" repay for voting with them?"
You seem to think that this is a bug. It's a feature.

They were temporary because the legislation passed as a reconciliation bill because the Senate could not get the 60 votes required for cloture under the normal process. A reconciliation bill can only impact revenues out to 10 years. So it HAD to expire after 10 years.
The Republicans tried many times to make the cuts permanent but they Senate Democrats wouldn't get on board. To frame this as somehow the Republicans increasing the tax is a lie. It is because rules dictate that reconciliation bills can only last for 10 years and the Democrats blocked the standard process.

Maybe it's nit-picking, but it bugs me to hear the MFM and the liberals push the "tax cuts" thing. It makes it sound somehow more reasonable for them to raise taxes because they'ye not, y'know, "raising taxes." They're just letting "tax cuts expire."

More like the kid who killed his parents, got caught red-handed while chopping them to bits, then blamed his neighbor for the murder while also claiming that he was trying perform CPR.
Or trying to put them back together. "And you STOPPED me!"

EVERY time I think the Democrat bastards can't get any lower, I look back and see they've been vigorously shoveling even deeper. I hold the Republicans in contempt for their cowardice and stupidity, but I absolutely loathe and despise the Democrats. Anyone who admits to being a Democrat is just despicable. They're the lowest form of human life. They make ghouls look good by comparison. They're so bad I believe I would rather have seen a military coup than the last two years of Obastard, Pelosi, Reid and their accomplices. None of them would know the truth if it came up and bit them.

Next year the Democrats will be telling us how they're gonna repeal the Republican's Health Care Reform bill.
Hey, surprise, surprise, surprise! That's exactly what the've got going now. The 1099 reporting requirement in the health care bill is the fault of the republicans for not repealing it. http://tinyurl.com/24cqkbv
