— Ace Remember this guy? Video below the fold, but if you don't want to click, he responded to a question about the constitutionality of ObamaCare's individual mandate by responding, honestly but horribly, "I don't worry about the Constitution on this to be honest." And then he cited the Declaration of Independence's statement about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as his constitutional authority. (When it's pointed out this isn't in the Constitution, he offered, "Well, either one.")
A poll conducted by his opponent puts it at 45-32.

All seriousness aside, actually it's in the middle, oh hell, even I can't keep this up for long.
OK. Why is it that we never, ever hear of a free-market based solution to our problems? We could have had a bill that opens up interstate competition among insurance companies along with tort reform, but instead, all we ever get is the same old tired drone of a bloated, inefficient, massively expensive shiny new government program.
We now return to your regularly scheduled program.

What if it works and then Sarah Palin feels terrible that she didn't go to the wedding? If anything Sarah Palin is not doing what Sarah Palin would do if she was just plain old Sarah Palin (I think she would go) but the public persona of "sarah palin" is expected not to attend and really, it isn't anyone's business but hers. She should demand a printed well publicized public apology and denial from Mr. Levi and then go to the wedding.

I'll bite. Because an actual free market would not allow big companies to push regulation and legislation to stave of competitors and create higher barriers to entry. It wouldn't allow technocrats to bait big companies for political contributions. It wouldn't allow exec's and bureaucrats to exchange cushy, well-paid jobs in and out of government. It wouldn't allow shortages that are held up as failures of capitalism. It wouldn't allow leftists to set up strawmen arguments like, "Well you people want subsidies for oil companies <wheeze>!"
So you see, it is pretty much about our betters.

I'm also concerned about the feds trying to stop the private sale of guns. If the private sale is stopped, who does one buy a gun from? The public or the feds? That makes no sense. The whole idea behind the government being in charge of gun sales to citizens defeats the purpose of the "right to bear arms". This is very very scary.

The control of civilian communications and civilian energy grids comes to mind.

Well that's the talking point....It may be the truth, but it by no means is a case closed matter....unless you got information that I seemed to have not found yet?
It just came out the other day, the a Chinese company was responsible for modifiying that particular piece of equipment. That's new and important to note.
The MMS inspected the rig shortly before, and actually gave them good marks. If it turns that it was a simple case of machinery or human error...fine....but taking the Adimistrations word, or BP's word on the matter doesn't cut it.

Totally shifting gears here. I'd heard that some suit for BP was worrying about a spreadsheet P&L on that particular rig and gave an order to proceed, which resulted in the initial explosion.
This is getting juicy.

I'd say it's more than just a talking-point; it's fact. BP has always been known for taking great risks, though not always in the negative sense. Macondo was a vital interest to them, one that see them sitting atop a mountain of cash. Also, the Gulf Coast division has the best minds & most skilled professionals, though they would have taken-on the project anyone. All calls made to the rigs on the Gulf come from the Houston office.
Now, Macondo was a problem from the start, but they wanted that well. The people on the teams within the Gulf Coast Division were running over-budget & over-schedule, which costs lots of money. Building a proper well-liner would have saved the Deepwater Horizon, but [long story] a few inside the Houston offices chose not to do so. Afterall, they might have gotten away with it before, they're brilliant people, & they had a system of proper failsafes. In essense, Deepwater Horizon was like the Titanic, & they thought it was too big to fail.

248 @227 They wouldn't burn it down; they'd try to finish in a hurry. It's two completely different things, with one being CYA & the other involving malice. Willingly burning the rig would have guaranteed they would be in a worse position they are now, & you can't collect when you don't exist. The British govt has already said they won't bail-out BP, & they have a history of letting companies die.

275 @ 262 Ms80 I think it was the hurry up and produce scenario. I'm certain that they had budgets for budgets, and that one was going over.
It was a combination of many things, but that was a large part of it. Other companies, however, would have paid the extra for a proper well-liner, even if they hated the idea. But arrogance was a large factor in why they didn't in this instance.
This entire saga has had a negative impact on the entire oil industry, & many of the companies are rather frightened at the moment. That bomb in the mailbox (of a Houston oil exec) didn't help matters....

The average leftist is hanging on to the talking point that "Bush is the cause, and Republican policy's don't work." They are hanging on because it feels good, but deep down they know it's all a huge lie.
Digging deep into the Retardation of the Left, one sees that at this point, it is all about revenge, they could care less if Obama is successful, they just want the rich to be poor, and America to be turned into a third world economy.
Why?
Because they have been brainwashed into the Ideology of fairness. If Fairness means they have to suffer a little bit too...fine...they do it out of spite.

-->Progress, do you think they believe, intelletually and emotionally, in leftism as an ideology or do you think they think that it is the path to power and riches?
I think that they are emotionally tied to leftism. A few of the really stupid ones have "intellectual" attachments to leftism, but most of the American left are just emotional basketcases of all sorts. That, and the real America-haters, of course.
I don't think that they care nearly as much about riches as the power to control others. They just love directing everyone else's life. It's what turns them on.
-->And with that power and wealth they can punish those they resent for one political reason or another?
-->I'm just trying to grasp the extent of the evil.

As with all collectivists, there is no limit to the evil of the American left. They will punish their domestic enemies like the left always does - since the French set the paradigm in their pathetically insane revolution.
But, my fear at the end of the campaign in 2008 was that the MFM had gone all-in on their disingenuous assault on America. I didn't imagine they could possibly turn back on what they had done, since the damage it wraught was so immense.
I think this all has to play to its ugly end.
