Iowahawk: Obama's Ever-More-Elaborate Ditch/Slurpee Metaphor
— Ace

This is officially old at this point, but I didn't see it widely linked. It's funny -- stay with it.

slurpeesforfreedom.jpg

A guy I did GOTV with thinks it would be a good idea to bring Slurpees to the polling booths. Electioneering? Hey, man, it's just a Slurpee.

That is of course a SluShop.

Posted by: DarkLordOfTheIntarWebs at October 27, 2010 06:49 AM (GBXon)

13 Is it that Slurpees are predominantly bought by black people?  Zero's black supporters are the only voting bloc that will not be swayed according to the pollsters.  This crew does nothing without a motive, even something as stupid as targeting Slurpee consumers.   He could've easily said, "sippin' a soda," or "sippin a Coke," but why something as out there as a Slurpee?

Posted by: RushBabe at October 27, 2010 06:49 AM (a3Z62)

14 In retrospect, I'm starting to assemble bits and pieces:

Slurpee + wet T-shirt + Gillette + smokin' hot finish = Freedom?

Works for me.

15 Not to mention that in Obama's world, every Slurpee is provided free to the consumer at a cost to the government of $187,592.18.

At least in Connecticut.

I remember the "Kratos Fury" limited flavor Slurpees at 7/11.  Very acidic and very "raw", but very good.   And I got the Morpheus armor for my namesake.

I should have kept some Kratos Fury Slurpee mix or something for "dipping" in just 6 short days hence.

And they're voting  for Manchin now.  What's the point?

If there was any hint of a "wave," WV would have flipped to the GOP since the race has been super close the whole way.  But, as usual, the Republican fades as election day nears.  Dems will be overjoyed to get out of this cycle with only 6-7 losses in the Senate.

Obama's approval rating in WV is one of the worst in the nation. He is a huge drag on democrats there. They don't dislike Machin because he has done his best to distance himself, in fact, abjure Obama completely. Pro-life, not for cap and tax, suddenly against the health care bill (liar). However, he's still a dem and wv is not going to validate Obama by electing his party.

So the already-blue states will remain blue, except for the ones the GOP takes from the Democrats.

It should be noted, of course, that you're consistently ignoring the overwhelming clobbering the Democrats are going to get in the House, in state legislatures and in governorships.  I realize focusing on the Senate mitigates your pain, but ignoring the bigger picture makes you look foolish.

58 But that car-in-the-ditch/slurpee metaphor is great for us, because we're just a bunch of dumb rednecks who need issues presented to us in a ridiculously over simplified manner. I for one appreciate the fact that both Obama and that cute little egg mcmuffin Katie Couric understand just how simple minded we all are. We need more nanny staters in power to tell us how to live and control our lives, cause gawd knows we don't have the brains to run our own lives. Hell, maybe they'll regulate the slurpee industry so we don't destroy our health.

71 Additional King County return stat...  Lowest return total = WA-7 @ 19.59%... this is Jim McDermott's district.  That's 8% less WA-2 returns.  He's largely running unopposed (though, I think his opponent is even crazier than he is), however, we have a number of contentious Initiatives on the ballots, so this is a decent sign the crazies are not as enthused.

Old and busted "Greg": If there was a wave, Toomey would be pulling away.

New Hotness "Greg":  If there was a wave, Raese would be pulling away."

Those are all true.  In a "wave" election, Paul would never have been in a competitive race.  And it took an idiotic ad from his opponent to open the race up.

The last 3 polls in PA have Toomey up 7, up 5, and a tie game.  So he's up low single digits...is that a "wave?"

And Raese is not toast in WV.  That's evidence of a "wave?"

But I realize now the only game in town for the GOP is the House, since the Senate races are breaking the wrong way (CT, CA, WA, WV) and gaining control is now impossible.

Greg why are you trying so hard? Who are you trying to convince? Life will go on after November 2nd. It is really unhealthy to place so much of your self worth in the outcomes of a half dozen senatorial elections. You and your friends suck. That is the collective opinion of the majority of voters. That opinion was formed over 20 months when time after time your friends spit in the face of the majority of Americans. You are going to get killed in the House, the governorships, the statehouses and yes even in the Senate.

You shouldn't be so concerned about who controls these institutions per se. You should be concerned about how your views are percieved as so radical and so at odds with the wishes of the majority that you are fighting for your political lives in places that should be given Democrat wins. That is going to have long term consequences, far beyond the results of November 2nd. If you can't come to grips with this reality you are in for a great deal of pain beyond that date.

97 That Obama car metaphor/ retro-active alibi is way past its sell date. Has SNL parodied it yet? "The republicans drove it into the ditch, but we, the democrats were there to help by cutting the brake lines first. Now, we need your help to get this car rolling, ya know, down that ditch onto the steep access road -you know the one I'm talkin' about?- the one that leads to the washed out, condemned bridge? We can leap that chasm. Yes, we can!"
