— Gabriel Malor Now if I haven't got your attention with that headline, you must be unconscious or captivated by Olympic curling/mini-zamboni-ing.
How come I haven't heard about this story on a smart military blog? A covert team of ten men and a woman assassinated a senior Hamas terrorist in a Dubai hotel room last month. Attempts to figure out who the assassins were or even who they worked for are coming up bupkus (do you see what I did there, just sayin'):
Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a senior figure in the military wing of Hamas, was found dead in a hotel room on Jan 20. According to one report he was killed by a female assassin who entered his room by posing as a member of hotel staff, injected him with a drug that induced a heart attack and hung a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door.
But other officers said he was strangled, probably after receiving an electric shock.
Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza, blamed IsraelÂ’s Mossad intelligence service for the killing.
But video footage and a series of passport photographs released by the Dubai police suggested a much more convoluted and bizarre operation than is normally associated with Mossad, which has a reputation for ruthless professionalism.
Ireland says the names, photos, and passport numbers do not match anything they've got. The passports were counterfeit. Israel is keeping quiet, not denying, but not confirming anything. The UK has also refused comment.

Bonhomme - It takes only seconds of pressure on the carotid artery to deprive the brain of oxygen and cause unconciousness. After that continued pressure for a couple of minutes till the heart stops beating and the job is done. After a tasering this would be rather easy to accomplish if you were alone in the room with the target.
And didn't the Pakistani's use a woman (in a honey trap?) to grab the Taliban bigwig that was captured awhile ago?

Um.
Fairly early in martial arts, I learned a couple different ways to strangle someone. I'm a smallish female, and, well, you'd be surprised how quickly you can get in position, and how fast you can make someone lose consciousness.
After that? It's a matter of keeping the pressure on. Not much strength involved. Tase the target (you're already in close), get into position, and hang on.

One of the people might actually be Irish. Most people don't know that Israel, throughout its existance has dealt with very seedy organizations, people and nations. When a nation is a pariah state, it deals with other pariah's. For example, North Korea and Iran aren't natural allies, but they deal with each other because most others will not.
So there is a good chance that the IRA or another more militant Irish group lent the Israelis an assassin in return for guns, money, etc.

The Irish have a very good relationship with Jews...going back to the Famines when Jewish shopkeepers fed their starving Christian neighbors for gratis. There are some political positions in Ireland which by statute are reserved for Jews. The Israelis wouldn't need to go to the IRA.

It's certainly very possible that the dude died Carradine-style and the Dubai authorities are working with Hamas to cover up that fact. Not that the Israelis are not up to the task -- but everything about this seems fishy. (Like, somehow the assassination team locked the hotel door from the inside? Like, it took 10 people to undertake a lone-assassin scenario?)

It does sound sort of elaborate for a Mossad job - they are known more for the walk up to you and shoot you in the head with a silenced pistol, drop the pistol, and walk away. Simple, because simple is good. Anyway, it is good to see that someone is taking out the trash.

Guys, remember that Mossad blew the assassination of Hamas's Khaled Mashaal when they chose to pour poison in his ear in Jordan (was somebody reading Hamlet?), and the Jordanians, outraged that the assassination was being carried out on their soil, forced Israel to identify the antidote. A rare but very costly Mossad screw-up.

#135, that was bad on the Israelis for two reasons. One, they're not supposed to do wet work on Jordanian soil on account of the generally good relations between the US, Israel, and Jordan. Second, what kind of super-spy nerve toxin doesn't have the guy on the floor doing the kickin' chicken and dead within 30 seconds? Should have used a .45 hollowpoint.

#140, it sounds like it was the Mossad's /b/tards doing their version of the Scientology raids. If one of the disguises was a Guy Fawkes mask, I'll laugh until I die.
Only the Mossad ever gets political sanction to do something like this. But this is not their usual style at all. Either they did a rare subcontract (to who? The IRA? Unemployed actors?) or they decided to stage the Casual Friday of all hit jobs.

Dubai is pissed.
"Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, will be the first to be wanted for justice as he would have been the one who signed the decision to kill al-Mabhouh in Dubai," Gen Tamim told The National, an English language newspaper in Dubai.
"We will issue an arrest warrant against him."
Israel has yet to comment on whether or not it was involved in the killing, although it did issue a statement claiming that Mabhouh played a "central role in smuggling weapons from Iran to Gaza militants".

OK - I guess this is kinda obligatory at this point:
A young CIA agent gets his first assignment out of Spy School
Oddly enough, there's another such story. Keep in mind that the Irish tell Kerryman jokes the way Polish jokes are sometimes told here......
A new CIA agent is sent to Ireland to infiltrate the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking movement). He is thus given an immersion course in Gaelic. He lands in Dublin, and moves about without question or a second glance. he meanders his way throughout Ireland; Cavan, Mayo, and down to Kerry and the Dingle peninsula.
he walks into a pub in Sneem and greets the publican in Gaelic, who responds, "haven't you lovely Irish for an American"! The CIA agent is taken aback, and, feeling somewhat deflated, asks, "how did you know that I was an American"? The Kerryman replies, " sure and why shouldn't I, and you as black as the ace of spades!"
