Iron Man 2 Feature Trailer
— Gabriel Malor

It's a slow news day, unless you want to talk about Obama saying "The time for talk is through" in Pennsylvania today. So how about the Iron Man trailer that debuted yesterday?

Ace and I argued about the first Iron Man 2 trailer (which I panned). This one is better.

Isn't Mickey Rourke like 70? Seriously, Whiplash is probably collecting Social Security.

Why don't you put up the Clash of the Titans theatrical trailer #2?

Avatar Feature Trailer

I will be seeing this on opening night. Unless I can find a way to an advance screening. Or murder someone else with a way to an advance screening. Rly. I know, I know, the plot is very WYSIWYG. Don't care. It's got Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez. And Giovanni Ribisi. And Zoe Saldana (as an alien).

Are you kidding? This looks awesome...you can't go wrong with guns & cars!  (and guys would add 'hawt chicks' to that...)

Sorry to those bored with this, but I love this stuff!  Hubby got me hooked on Marvel Comics back in the '90s...he's been a fan for years.

Plus, doesn't hurt that Downey looks so good playing this role...Mmm! Mmm! Mmm!

I thoroughly dig movies like this...give me ones with guns, cars, zombies, or football, and I'm happy.

Who wants anti-military flicks with blue ewoks in them?  Puh-leeze...

14 Comic book movies are beyond lame and played-out.

Iron Man 2. Another sequel and what is worse it looks like it combines Iron Man with Transformers.  Therefore a sequel with overtones of copycat.

As I said on one of the ONT's a few days back.  The 80s had a lot more original movies and were probably the last decade of good movies.

Now we get on the average of one good movie every 2 years and a good "original" movie every 5 years.

17 I really enjoyed the first Iron Man (which I saw on satellite, not in the theater).  It's a small movie, but the sound track and visuals were so fun.

I may actually drag the hubby out to a movie theater to see this one.

21 still bugs me that since they mixed up Crimson Dynamo's real name with Whiplash, we probably won't see one of my favorite Iron Man villains but in the grand scheme I don't care as the first one rocked. Who would have known the fat dude from Rudy would end up as a pretty good director (Zathura completely makes up for the misstep that is Elf)?

23 I guess I am just getting to old for the unbelievable to be changed into a suspension of disbelief by these sorts of movies any more. The show looks entertaining, but as far as it giving a period of removal from the stresses of life, it will not suck me into the story. The whole skin thick armor is total BS, then when they try to make it look like it can be compacted into a tiny package though engineering, it becomes completely unbelievable.

24 24 I guess I am just getting to old for the unbelievable to be changed into a suspension of disbelief by these sorts of movies any more. --- I know what you mean about the suspension of disbelief, but I think why this sort of movie still works for me is that it's more like a music video. It's just an experiential thing, not a story I need to believe. I can never enjoy plays (with the exception of Shakespeare or opera) because of my inability to give in to the reality. 'Must be something about seeing the boundaries of the stage or something. But with (some) movies, the director controls the reality more fully. *** PS: WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE COMMENT BOX TODAY? IT KEEPS WONKING OUT ON ME. GRR

"I really enjoyed the first Iron Man (which I saw on satellite, not in the theater).  It's a small movie, but the sound track and visuals were so fun."

I'll second that.  I Redbox'd the first Iron Man, so I guess the fact that I was only paying a buck for it helped me to keep my threshold of "worthwhile" pretty low:  at worst, the movie was going to waste two hours of my time, and $1.08 of my money.  It exceeded those expectations HANDILY.

Being in a career associated with the military-industrial complex, there was just enough plausibility to help me geek out while watching.  There were a few wheels spinning in the back of my mind, trying to figure out how some of the toys worked, but I didn't devote too much resource to it.  Usually these sorts of movies revolve around various metal alloys based on unobtanium anyway, so I let it go.  In a world where we can weave bulletproof fabrics, I'm willing to let superlight 1/8" thick metals pretend to be impervious to anything for a while.

Plus, knowing the old guys that actually run these sorts of businesses, it's fun to watch them basically be caricatured as a young, virile, rockstar of a man.  The personality is basically the same, it's just been extracted from their aged, Caduet-laden bodies.

I'll probably Redbox this one.  For any of you on the fence about this movie, I suggest you plan to do the same.  It's a much smaller commitment than a $10 ticket, $15 of popcorn and root beer, and the risk of sitting next to someone obnoxious (my sincere apologies to Mrs. Dave in Texas, who never has an alternative).

26 Plus, Iron Man I had a fun, plucky, robot sidekick.  Comic distractions always help with gauzy plots.

Posted by: astonerii As someone who was buying Iron Man comics before he had his own comic book (Tales of Suspense #39-99 before Iron Man #1) I was totally geeked out to see the briefcase packed armor in action. ref suspension of disbelief. There's a line you don't want to cross. Go too far and the suspension of disbelief is cracked. However, you gotta be willing to let the authors have one crazy, impossible thing. In Iron Man that's the absurdly advanced tech levels. In other films/books it might be some kid seeing dead people or the nerd scoring with the hot chick. That's the diff between some fun escapism and a docudrama. Though the first trailer was good, this one was awesome!

28 I didn't care for the first trailer, the money quotes were fake seeming and it looked a little too "government is bad" but this one looks more fun.

29 I'm probably in the minority here, but I thought the first one kicked ass and this one looks just as good.  I'll be seeing it.

*Giggles at finally being a minority.

32 I just hope THIS time they actually play the Sabbath song during the movie.  Talk about a bait-and-switch last time when it played on the trailer but never appeared in the film.  LET DOWN!

33 First, Iron Man was played during the first movie, albeit during the closing credits.

Second, as for "believability," relax. It's a super-hero movie. In other words, a modern myth, just like Hercules and Jason.

As for the "thick armor vs. briefcase" BS, well... The comic did a lot of dancing around that, but (hey) it's a comic book. The new trailer provided at least a legitimate avenue of willing disbelief with the briefcase armor.

"reason" likes to tout his "military-industrial complex" expertise, but it's still a freaking movie. How many accurate war movies have you ever seen? What about law, or medicine? What about computers & hacking?

Bottom line: Hollywood always gets it wrong.

Frankly, anyone who complains about the technical accuracy of a super-hero movie needs to quit worrying and get a grip.

On the other hand, it was very cool to see the red & silver armor pop out of the briefcase. 20 years of armor history in, like 5 seconds...
