Whoa
— Ace

Pretty darn good vid by Ben Howe:

Ben Howe explains his vid at Redstate, or at his own blog.

Thanks to Snarkandboobs, last seen defending the new film about conservative women, Fire in the Heartland, from (what else?) leftist attacks attempting to sexualize and degrade those women.

Correction: Vid, not ad. I am stupid. You know this. You have accepted it by now. I am stupid, I write stupid things, I do stupid shit, because I have a stupid brain.

5 I likes.

The use of the choir version of Radiohead's "Creep", the same as in the trailers for The Social Network, is eerily appropriate.

The lyrics in question I find very appropriate:

"I wish I was special
You're so fuckin' special

But I'm a creep,
I'm a weirdo
What the Hell am I doin' here?
I don't belong here"

Posted by: Brandon In Baton Rouge at October 05, 2010 08:45 PM (AFlF9)

6 yeah he has in mind a parody of "The Social Media" titling this "The SocialIST." I don't even think he needs to make that connection. "Creep" fits so perfectly.

17 OT-Speaking of "Whoa", the following is being reported by zerohedge.com:

We received something troubling in the tip box.

I contacted several real estate agents today to buy real estate in Florida only to be told that all sales (including properties that have been foreclosed and are actively for sale/auction) are on hold.  I asked the agents for how long.  They said it appears until January 2011.

Are fellow readers seeing this across other states as well?

Apparently this is related to the mess they and market-ticker (and, no doubt, others) have been reporting on involving the lack of proper documentation of mortgages that got wrapped into derivatives.

21 17 - I have heard that they are afraid that if they release all the foreclosures into the real estate market now it will take down the market. I don't know who told them to wait as I doubt they are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. It may indeed be related to the mess of documentation but I heard about the not releasing foreclosures a few weeks before the report on the documentation.

I sent it to this chick on twitter who describes herself as "trendy" and "artsy" and tells me to "sit down" ("shut up," iow).  Oh, and that "no one is listening to rdbrewer"  Hence, her...um... response.  Okiedokie.  And also, you see, if she doesn't like something, that means that no one else does, because her thoughts are pretty much universal.  They're that goddamned fine.

40 OT-Speaking of "Whoa", the following is being reported by zerohedge.com:

Plausible.

No one knows who holds title to vast, vast, vast amounts of foreclosed (and "foreclosed") real estate, so banks are just stealing houses and land, sometimes from people who haven't defaulted, or who own the places outright, and fencing hurriedly auctioning the places to suckers, to get cash and clean hands off the flip.

The FL AG's office is the only gov't agency that seems to be trying to sort that out—presumably because, last I heard, the FL AG's office is credibly accused of participating in it. So they may have quietly called a halt, but it's probably to buy their "targets" (i.e. pals) story-straightening and paperwork-fraudulatin' time.

Huge story, whether the tipster's legit or not. And no one cares.

62 re: The Socialist

"The Battle For Your Mind, Persuasion & Brainwashing Techniques Being Used On The Public Today" by Dick Sutphen (1984)

Sutphen quoted a really interesting American son of immigrants who learned to read both English and German by age 5, an independently philosophical sharecropper, longshoreman and author, Eric Hoffer.

From Sutphen

I want to talk about the people who are most susceptible to conversion and joining mass movements. I am convinced that at least a third of the population are what Eric Hoffer calls true believers. They are joiners and followers ... people who want to give away their power. They look for answers, meaning and enlightenment outside themselves. Hoffer's book The True Believer (Harper & Row, 1951) is a classic on mass movements. He says, "True believers are not intent on bolstering and advancing a cherished self, but are those craving to be rid of an unwanted self. They are followers, not because of a desire for self-advancement, but because it can satisfy their passion for self-renunciation!" Hoffer also says that true believers "are eternally incomplete and eternally insecure."

Of Hoffer

eric hoffer was a self-educated longshoreman who came to fame in the 1950's with the publication of his first book, the true believer. a caustic analysis of the nature of mass movements and those who are driven to join them, the true believer did what few other books of the mid-twentieth century could: it helped expose the hidden causes of the tumultuous events that nearly destroyed our world at that time. hoffer said of the 1930's, "it colors my thinking and shapes my attitude toward events. i can never forget that one of the most gifted, best educated nations in the world, of its own free will, surrendered its fate into the hands of a maniac." the true believer, though, is not solely concerned with the rise of nazi germany, but with the origination of all mass movements, destructive or creative. and more importantly, it is concerned with the main ingredient of such movements, the frustrated individual. the book probes into the psychology of the frustrated and dissatisfied, those who would eagerly sacrifice themselves for any cause that might give their meaningless lives some sense of significance. the alienated seek to lose themselves in these movements by adopting those fanatical attitudes that are, according to hoffer, fundamentally "a flight from the self." hoffer's first book dove into the subject that ultimately occupied him for his entire writing career and interested him throughout his life. that subject was not merely the discontented individual, but the creative and fulfilled individual as well. the nature of man and the individual human being have always been primary themes in the history of philosophical thought, and hoffer's struggles with these concepts and questions have produced some particularly illuminating insights. he writes, "it is the individual alone who is timeless. the individual's hungers, anxieties, dreams, and preoccupations have remained unchanged throughout the millennia."

"An art exhibit that critics say features Jesus receiving oral sex from a man is under fire in Loveland, CO. The artwork is part of an exhibit in the cityÂ’s public museum."

This exhibit is taking place in a public museum, funded by taxpayer dollars. Unlike a threatened Quran burning, this incident of religious hatred has been ignored by the mainstream media, liberal religious groups, opinion leaders, and public office holders everywhere.  ...a taxpayer-funded insult of the beliefs of a majority of Americans regarding the Son of God is treated as business as usual and a celebration of American freedom. Of course, there is a way to get this exhibit shut down immediately, the artwork destroyed, and the artist killed. Point out that the following is a part of the same work of art. Run for your life, Enrique Chagoya. The Mohammedans are going to get you. I sure hope that your employers at Stanford University have updated their anti-terrorism plans -- they are sure going to need them once word of this gets out.

Posted by: maverick muse at October 06, 2010 03:43 AM (H+LJc)

65 Going through the papers this morning I see unrelenting attacks against every Republican candidate in the areas covered by the papers.

This is the kind of shit I expected out of these propaganda outlets. Near the election, they will "reluctantly" endorse the Democrat candidate so that you will not notice their bias so much in the run-up.

So how much is this worth to the Democrats? Well, how much is a "front page" newspaper ad worth? In most metro markets that would be several thousand dollars per ad and they are doing in daily. What is it worth in the terms of votes? Some "experts" that I have read in the past estimated that media bias is always worth at least 1% in votes and can rise as high as 5%.

One wonders how this can be stopped? I have advocated a return to individual newspaper ownership instead of mass conglomerates, but would that really stop it?

What do the Morons think?

Actually Fox was reporting this morning that there IS a move afoot from the commie adm to halt ALL foreclosures, but I didn't catch any details.

Personally I don't see how they can legally order that.

And that doesn't count the fact that these types of "freezes" have been tried over and over in the past and have not only never worked, they made the situation worse.

What's more, all these continued foreclosures were predicted by everyone with a brain when the various "fixes" were proposed. Now we have spent enough money on all these programs that they could actually have paid off most of the mortgages from real homeowners (vs speculators).

We have to get the commies out of office soon before they collapse the entire country.

67 Here is a story in the NY Post talking about this for homes in NY.

http://tinyurl.com/24epo57

Note that this is action is from large banks and they blame technical difficulties in the paperwork.

The foreclosure freeze came about after it was learned that several banks were not checking he documents used to prove they owned the underlying mortgages -- and therefore couldn't prove they had the right to seize the home.

Is it really technical difficulty or WH interference? This is not confined to NY alone.

70 68-Vic, I think print papers have gone the way of the dodo. Most young people get their news from the internet, and frankly, most of us middle aged types do to. I don't trust newspapers anymore. They are only good for the Sunday coupons (my computer crashes when I try to print coupons). The newspapers are rather like the family farms that have been bought up by agribusiness. It's a more cost effective model, but it doesn't necessarily produce a superior product. But the family farms are gone, and the family farmers can't afford to buy their land back. I think it's the same for newspapers. They sold their souls to the conglomerate paper, and can't get it back. They are forced to write the party line. Maybe they even agree with it. But they don't recognize that selling their soul will be seen in papers they produce, and that people want nothing to do with it. Hence, the massive decrease in circulation. Which, in this case, is probably a good thing. Especially since we have Ace.

72 The foreclosure freeze came about after it was learned that several banks were not checking he documents used to prove they owned the underlying mortgages -- and therefore couldn't prove they had the right to seize the home.

Actually, the literal transfer of paper title documentation was never thoroughly and appropriately conducted as legally required during some sales of banking companies that of themselves were bankrupt/foreclosed before being swallowed by name changing ownerships.

This past year, advise to those facing foreclosure was to sue the banking institution, forcing them to provide the legal paper documentation that they actually must have prior to processing foreclosure/eviction notices.

As I said yesterday, 3 major conglamarates own all the news media outlets here in SC and I suspect that it is a similar situation ion other States. We used to have laws that prevented that but they went by the wayside some time ago. (BTW, none of those are foreign owned)

The problem is if they were forced to divest would it restore balance? I do know that the local paper here was staunchly conservative when I first moved here. The owner grew old and wished to retire so he sold to the paper to a medium size outfit in Sumpter, SC. A year or so later they were bought up by the McClatche(?) group. The paper ever since has been a pure propaganda arm of the Democrat Party.

This same group owns all the papers in a 50 mile radius as well as the TV stations. 75 years ago they would not have been able to do this.

I guess that is the big debate. Having one conglomerate is bad but would it fix the problem?

75 75-I don't know much about business, but that seems frightening-that the banks don't know what real estate they hold, and have to be taken to court to provide the documentation. It would seem logical that you would have all of those papers filed/scanned into a system so that they could be pulled up as needed. What has happened to the way people operate businesses now?

The last newspaper subscription I had was for that small town local paper I noted above. I sent them a note with my intent to drop explaining that if I desired a Democrat Party propaganda sheet I would join the Democrat Party and send a donation so they would send me their propaganda every month.

I never heard back from them. So I guess it is a chicken or egg thing. Subscriptions are dropping like flies because thy are so liberal or is it that the subcriptions are dropping and they are turning to liberals to combat it?

73 68-Vic, that's my take as well.

moki, there's the influential talk radio broadcast of news or talking points as well.

Regarding that comparison with farmers, let's prevent the papernews industry from gaining legislated tax funded subsidies. Imagine papers getting paid by the government to not print--given the green lunatics greedy with tax funds, it's another battle we'll face. Likely, an asshole will slip it in as an earmark.

All tax funded subsidies for "farmers" now globalist chemical/bio-engineered agribusiness industry in perverted league with the EPA need be rescinded.

While I'm making my Christmas List, let's make earmarks illegal. Require that bills be succinct, read and debated by all parties in chambers and on the floor prior to voting. Require that prior to vote, legislators pass or at least TAKE a two part pro/con quiz per bill. Get legislators out of their comfort zone as socialites and held to their constitutional responsibilities. Thanks, Santa.

79 79-Growing up, we had two city newspapers that we received in the morning and evening. I remember running out to get them and bring them to my dad-since he got first dibs at them. Today, my kids can't believe newspapers printed that much. I also remember when Time, Newsweek and US News were legitimate news magazines, and provided different coverage of world events that weren't always reported in smaller town papers. Basically, I wish for those days back, and I wish that my kids had grown up with reporting instead of propaganda. But I think that for most papers, they have passed the point of no return in regards to returning to private ownership. I don't think it's cost effective, when they can run their news online for far, far less. And I think that when papers became more liberl-when they were bought out by the conglomerates, who for whatever reason were liberal, people started dropping their subscriptions. The one year out of the past ten when we were stateside, we dropped our subscription because of all the Bush-bashing. It was so over-the-top. But the papers never seemed to get it. As subscriptions dropped, they seemed to get more shrill about their leftist ideology. Now, if an enterprising fellow could find investors to back a conservative newspaper-or at least a locally owned paper with local reporters who are truly neutral, that might sell. Especially with coupons. Lots of coupons.

80 80-maverickmuse-you are talking dirty to me!!! I would add that bills can only be single issue. No amendments-each item stands alone for its vote. Combine that with your suggestions, and Congress can do FAR less damage each session, and might actually do some good!

81 but that seems frightening-that the banks don't know what real estate they hold, --moki

Think Bush's Paulson's global scam on mortgage investment and mutual funds. That seeming fright is compounded because of Bush's executive order authorizing the Sec./Treasury's autonomous status, and providing not only the Federal Reserve but the entire banking industry with precedence as if legitimate to refuse to answer questions in court. With Geithner/Obama holding the reins, we are in national bankruptcy, denial notwithstanding.

85 I just saw this on Drudge:

Trucks Encircle ABC, CBS, NBC, Challenge ‘Liberal’ Media to ‘Tell The Truth’

Four billboard trucks bearing the message “Stop the Liberal Bias, Tell the Truth!” began circling the Manhattan headquarters of ABC, CBS, NBC, and the New York Times on Friday. The trucks will do so for eight hours every weekday for the next four weeks as part of a campaign run by the Media Research Center, a watchdog group that analyzes the media for liberal bias.

Similar trucks also are operating in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, passing the offices of the broadcast networks, the Washington Post, CNN, the Newseum, the National Press Club and Politico, and ads about the campaign are running on numerous Web sites and on conservative talk radio programs.

89 Basically, I wish for those days back, and I wish that my kids had grown up with reporting instead of propaganda.

I don't think that time ever really existed.  Back in the 30's lots of people in the American media knew Stalin was doing bad things like the Terror Famine, but they didn't report it because it would hurt the cause of socialism.

Similarly, there were pictures of JFK and his brothers on boats with topless women (who weren't their wives) back in the 50's.  The media didn't report it because it would harm the Democrat candidate.

The media has always been rotten.  What's happened now is that there is an aggressive right-wing media to challenge them, so their lies of omission are highlighted.

Very good video.

On newspapers, I haven't picked one up in years.  If I stop at a convenience store I'll look at the front page, but newspapers don't have anything that I want.  The internet is faster (and more current) and I can avoid the leftist stuff.  The list of things I have to recycle is already long enough.

Going through the newspaper used to be a nice morning ritual but that was a long time ago for me.  I like what I can find elsewhere better.

Moonbat Alert:

As a broadcaster who has encouraged ordinary Americans to wake up, stand up and start making their voices heard, Glenn Beck should appreciate the hours Matt Sky is putting in to participate in the democratic debate.

Since Monday he has been spending between five and eight hours a day stamping his feet in the chill October air in Manhattan's Sixth Avenue outside the headquarters of News Corporation, home of Fox News. In his hands he has a stars and stripes flag and a poster he has made himself that says: "Glenn Beck hates America."

Meet Beck's lone protester. It can't be an easy life, attempting singlehandedly to have one of America's most popular rightwing commentators taken off air. But that is what Sky, a 26-year-old web developer, is trying to do.

He explained to me why: "I really do think Beck hates America. His greed and his wish for power is overriding the people of this country, who he is making paralysed with fear.

"We need to call out these types of hateful individuals. They love to say that those who disagree with them are traitors, and that makes people scared to say what they think. We are being held hostage by them."

95 94-weeeelllll, technically, he's right. But the veil over their eyes is so thick and tight, they absolutely can't see truth. So, truth to them is evil and anti-American. Plus, the 26 year old who spends 8 hours a day holding a sign in front of Glenn Beck's studio is either A) out of work due to the economy, and doesn't see the irony of his situation, or B) paid to do this by Axelrod, or whomever has taken over astroturf duty.

Soros Calls For More U.S. Stimulus Spending

There is a real danger that U.S. President Barack Obama's goal of trying to cut in half the country's large budget deficit by 2013 could wreck the U.S. recovery and more stimulus spending is needed to breathe life into domestic demand, renowned investor George Soros has said.

In a speech delivered at Columbia University on Tuesday, Soros said the Obama administration was caving in to pressure from Republicans to cut back on stimulus spending and target fiscal consolidation.

"I believe there is a strong case for further stimulus," Soros said. "To cut back on government spending at a time of large-scale unemployment would ignore all the lessons learned from the Great Depression."
