John Boehner Kicked Some Ass Last Night
— DrewM

If you missed it, here's the speech House Republican leader and soon to be Speaker John Boehner gave last night in the lead up to the vote. It's about 10 minutes long but worth it.

Line of yesterday's debate was from Rep Linder (R-GA) "This has never been about health care, this is about government".

Guys, I know you want to beat up on the GOP, so do I. I have in fact spent a fair amount of my time here on the blog doing that but it doesn't matter any more. Today is Day 1. We need to give these guys a chance, a closely monitored and enforced chance but looking back accomplishes nothing. They may break our hearts (and our country) in the end but right now we hang together or hang separately.

To paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld, you go to war with the opposition party you have, not the one you wish you did.

ObamaCare delenda est!

3 Blah. He still reaches across the aisle or tries to, too much. He'll be back to being a "Gentleman" later today.

4 He did well. This whole thing pisses me off. The repubs need to be focused. Remember this...if Repubs during the Bush years had stayed true to their principles I doubt they would have taken as much of a beating in 2006 and 2008. They were basically dem lite...and that turned off a lot of conservatives and libertarian types. The Repubs have an opportunity now and in Nov 2010. Hopefully this time they will stay true to the concept of smaller government.

Posted by: Predator Intel at March 22, 2010 08:20 AM (2ZBq0)

5 And if they (the repubs) had not taken as much of a beating in 2006 or 2008....ie we would have had more house members....this damn health bill would not have passed.

This was good, but much, much too late.  We have to replace the entire GOP leadership if we are going to make any progress.

We'll see.

There are times when people reach a point and they realize the old ways don't work, that the world has changed and they can't go on as before.

Based on their actions in this debate, I'm willing to give the GOP the benefit of that doubt. If in the next 6 months they show signs of business as usual, then we're fucked.

Right now, they are the only horse in town and we've got to ride it. It's not like we are foregoing some other option. It's either fight by their side or pack it in.

Assholes like jared polis(D) can be seen and heard on-camera laughing and mocking.  They show nothing but contempt for constituents and opponents.

21 That degree of passion got them air time on Fox. Don't know if they got air time on the others, probably not but they should have.

That is the only way they will get their message out is by making it something that the news media can not "pass up".

The Repubs must learn how to get their message out regardless of the hostile media. That is what has been killing them forever.

Hell, if nothing else they need to get some George Soros type billionaire from the conservative side to form a news network and be just as proconservative as the rest are procommie.

32 A peanut gallery is an audience that heckles the performer. The term originated in the days of vaudeville and is a nickname for the cheapest (and ostensibly rowdiest) seats in the theater; the cheapest snack served at the theater would often be peanuts, which the patrons would sometimes throw at the performers on stage to show their disapproval.

Republicans are the minority and the opposition party, but give them credit for treating their opponents respectfully (to a fault even) and presenting good, workable solutions.  Americans were paying close attention to this healthcare bill and opposed it by an overwhelming majority. Part of that was because the Republicans proposed alternatives that did not involve raising taxes on the middle class and fining and/or jailing the poor and unemployed. We are better than the peanut gallery.

This is a fight for a new generation, unsullied by bridges to nowhere and all of Tom DeLay generation bull crap. It's not enough to be outraged. We are all outraged. The fact is that any American would have let this health scare die a natural death 8 months ago, just as ShrillaryCare died and just as Shamnesty died.  This is American legislative tradition for hated legislation.  The only reason the health scare kept being resurrected and running in our faces was because we have an ineligible Indonesian in the WHite House who holds us, our systems, and our institutions in utter contempt.  It was only because of The Precedent and his un-American nature that this was pushed far beyond reason.  Even if Shrillary had become President, she would have given up on health scare around the time of the Town Halls, if not even earlier.

Many of us tried to warn people about what sort of fire the US was toying with in considering an ineligible third worlder for Chief Executive.  The fact that the Indonesian Imbecile had no connections to American culture (you could tell by his strange English, his seeming lack of understanding of normal American expressions, and his weird concepts of history) was exactly the problem that the Founders tried to avert with the 'natural born citizen' clause.

But, too many conservatives refused to understand this and, instead, argued to intentionally ignore the Constitution.  Anyone with a brain knew that this was what we were going to get. The only surprise was that the dems all ended jumping in for the suicide bombing with their Indonesian Imbecile.

The Precedent's purpose with pushing the health scare, as I have been saying again and again, was never really about passing the legislation.  He didn't care.  That's why he let Congress write whatever they wanted.  All the Inodesian Imbecile wanted was to push the system to failure with his breaking of all legislative taboos, traditions, and rules in the process.  This health scare was a suicide bomb from the start, and one that would only have been done by one with the most tenuous connections to American culture.

Nibbling at the edges and taking the least offensive progressive option is no longer gonna cut it. The true lesson of last night is what can be accomplished when leaders have the balls to go all in. We have the people. We have the constitution. We have the facts. We must stop cowing to popular media and go big. It's not enough to turn back health care. We must fight to roll back every progressive con of the past 100 years.

McShame intentionally chased away everyone he could and he also refused to stand up for Constitutional eligibility (even though he was forced to prove his).  Further, McShame couldn't even find the integrity to stand up for his un-Constitutional McCain-Feingold, while the Indonesian Imbecile made a mockery of campaign finance with his acceptance of anonymous donations - an impeachable crime.  But, McShame never said one word about it.  Not a one.  Ever.

Agreed.

A fair definition of moderate would be the complete repeal of Obama's agenda - Obamacare, Spendulous, Cap n' Tax, etc.

Anyone who supports Obamacare is a National Socialist, and can get the hell out of the Rep party...

I need to know something. Is the Amish exemption still in the bill?

Posted by: this is Carlton, the doorman at March 22, 2010 12:54 PM (Uf4aV)

I don't know, but the Islam exemption is:

Health insurance is going to be compulsory for all companies and associations in our country. The insurance company will not have direct relationship with companies or associations, as there will be brokers in between, this is also compulsory.

The question is: What is the ruling on working for these brokers? Its role is basically introducing offers to companies and individuals and dealing with claims.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly: Health insurance is haraam like other types of commercial insurance, because it is based on ambiguity, gambling and riba (usury). This is what is stated in fatwas by the senior scholars. See the answer to question no. 39474 and 4210.

In Fataawa al-Lajnah al-DaaÂ’imah (15/277) there is a quotation of a statement of the Council of Senior Scholars concerning the prohibition on insurance and why it is haraam:

1. Commercial insurance contracts are transactions based on probability and extreme ambiguity, because the customer cannot know at the time of signing the contract what he will give or take.

[ . . .]

-----------

18 (5) EXEMPTIONS FROM INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.

—In the case of an individual who is seeking an exemption certificate under section 1311(d)(4)(H) from any requirement or penalty imposed by section 5000A, the following information:

(A) In the case of an individual seeking exemption based on the individualÂ’s status as a member of an exempt religious sect or division, as a member of a health care sharing ministry, as an Indian, or as an individual eligible for a hardship exemption, such information as the Secretary shall prescribe.

Like I said earlier, we don't have the luxury of being Reagan-type happy warriors.

We're facing tyranny. Our political enemies are bona fide enemies of We The People and our glorious Republic. The Democrats no longer play by the rules, and they change the rules as they go along.

We no longer have the luxury of pleasantries and niceties are over. We cannot tolerate ANYONE in our party who still believe we can 'work' with Democrats. The Democrats have no interest in co-existing with the Republican party.

We need to start fighting these jerks now. I just read (skimmed) the reconcilliation bill and basically nothing happens until 2014. I was wrong in an earlier post regarding pre existing conditions.

1. Pre existing condition discrimination only kicks in for children under this bill. In most states this was already illegal and in all states it's illegal if you have employer insurance already both for you and your family.

With the new bill if you have a pre existing condition and no insurance you are still screwed until 2014. Drive that into your lib friends tiny little brains.

2. Insurance subsidies don't kick in until 2014. So the 32,000,000 uninsured the dems crow about will continue to go without insurance for at least 4 more years. Think of all the dead people dems are causing by this.

3. Taxes, all the taxes start this year except the tax on insurance plans and it's not just for the rich. Taxes on medical devices, drugs and capital gains go into effect this year. Medical devices and drugs affect everyone regardless of your income.

4. Capital Gains increases start this year on people individuals making over $200,000 and couples over $250,000. This may sound like alot but it's not if you own your home and sell it and have a job. You will be taxes 3.8% on all income over $200,000 including any profit on the sale of your home.

As of today I'm willing to give the nod to the Republicans -- with a pretty stiff warning: you work for us.

Not at all happy about the way yesterday turned out, but I suppose the silver lining is that now there is at least more clarity of purpose and something to rally around.  Anyone who voted for this in my state is out -- any Dem who didn't vote for it gets a partial reprieve with probation; as for the state and local -- you belong to the party who created this, you're out too; I don't care if you had nothing to do with health care -- you're guilty by association. I will do my best to destroy the party that destroyed my country; if that means aligning with the Republicans I don't care; if that means supporting the right to lifers from here on out, well, I've been having serious issues with the pro choice folks for a while now anyway and this just sealed it; if I piss off old friends and collegues, so what -- if they challenge me, I'll do my best to crush them.  Consequences can be a bitch.

Ultimately though, there were not enough Republlicans present, and the Blue Dawgs were open to "deals" from the White House. So the answer to our problem is....more Republicans! (And don't give me that Eeyore grousing about how the Republicans are no good. It's either Republicans in control of Congress in 2011, or 2-4 more years of Obaka' & Pelosi & Reid's crew in charge. 130 I'm sorry, but the GOP has a little more ways to go to regain its honor. I sincerely hope they win a majority this fall--but only so they can repeal the recently passed bill. After that, I wish them nothing.

Nor do I think that will I actively assist in their reclaiming a position of distinction which they do not honestly yet deserve, for it will merely encourage them. This is not to mean I will necessarily sit on the sidelines--I will express my views to my fellow citizens on how I think the Republic should be best organized, and in that tilling of the ground perhaps a few cast GOP seeds may sprout. But as far as lending a hand to this soiled and stained party--no, a thousand times, no. For what happened yesterday could have been avoided, and if perhaps we are forced not to get into recriminations that would prevent the work from going forward, neither are we forced to hail those who brought us to these steps as paragons.

The role for the current GOP is to repair the damage, and then retire from the scene. This will of course not happen, which means we will continue this ying-yang for some time to come until it does.

The man has an impressive resume, as well. But how can you toss a man who's written his own new plan for America, a man who dissected the health bill & called out the Precedent @ the health care summit, the man who forced the CBO to re-score Hell Care, the man who went before the House Rules Committee & debated them solo for 30min?

Anyone who thinks this man isn't good enough is delusional, or just hasn't been listening. I'm not saying he should become president tomorrow, but he's fought for us every step of the way. He deserves our thanks, not our scorn. I'm disgusted that some think the opposite.
