I have to respectfully disagree with you on this - not in total, but mostly.  Those leftists who do believe that they are correct in their feelings about how society should be structured are generally not the ones who paint their ideological opponents as "evil".  That only tends to happen after they lose arguments, have problems with implementations, and begin to seriously doubt their ideas.  I have dealt with many people of the true believer type and, while they are seriously misguided, they tend to remain reasonable people.

Most leftists in the US are motivated, above all, by self-hate (and, therefore, hate of the US) and that puts them in an altogether different category.  Others are just overwhelmed by runaway empathy and can't stand seeing any pain or suffering (which are parts of life, no matter) so they take to trying to force the government to do away with it, to try and deal with their own personality problems.

Most of the leftist leaders, though, are just power hungry animals who love to control others.  These are people who get off on forcing smokers to stand outside in -20 degree weather, with rain (while they would prosecute a CIA interrogator for doing the same to an Al Quaeda member who killed a thousand Americans).

If they actually do what they say, who knows.  A lot of what could happen to them would depend on where they were and in what capacity.  For the military OKs,  it is conceivable that many would be arrested.  It is possible, though probably unlikely, that some could be executed.  For the LEO OKs, the risks are likely considerably less.

You're also aware that orders can be refused simply be being carried out in a really half-assed way, too, right?  The risks from simply "not finding any weapons to confiscate" on a patrol are probably not that great.

Back in the bad old 'Shrub years a paper was published on how adaptive police forces in various countries were in transitioning to a police state - the police function is to arrest lawbreakers, however petty or obtuse the law is, however dangerous or benign the lawbreaker, based solely upon the priority placed on which offensive acts are to be focused upon by the leaders of society.

Martial law can only go so far, as soldiers are trained for combat against armed belligerents in the protection of their own people (contrast the police function). When used in offense against their own it can only go so far as they are reluctant to disperse crowds with howitzer fire... the police not so much, if so equipped, and if it is deemed reasonable force.

When SHTF in Russia, their army refused to fire on their own, same in Manila with Marcos, and probably dozens of Roman Emperors fell to their Generals knives, and others... Bonna Fide civil wars are few and far between..

We are already manning up LEOs, by thousands, to pick out the insubordinate outliers.... when they finally get down to midnight SWAT raids on the guys with too many outstanding parking tickets (who could have paid, but did not) there ain't gonna be a lot of people feeling sorry for your antisocial ways.
