Just In Time For Christmas: Your Official "Pearl Necklace" Silver Necklace
— Ace

Why silver? Because you can't make pearls have squoogishy shapes.

In related news, civilization was overrated anyway.

Thanks to gg.

19 That's just plain ugly.  But the purpose of it is to hide the part of the neck that shows the most age.  Notice how long it is and where it is wide.  Heck, Tiffany and Company has some beautiful silver jewelry and every woman you know will know he went to Tiffany's to get your gift.  Plus you get to leave the "little blue box" on the dresser to remind you what a great guy you have.

Bet all the old hag female newscasters buy this one.....it hides that old ugly "hey you are a lot older than your botoxed face says you are" part of the neck...can't botox the neck, the neck and the hands reveal your age.

Not "some muzzie terrorist." Anwar al-Awlaki, the imam at the mosque where the 9/11 hijackers worshipped.  You know, the guy who recruited both the Ft. Hood shooter and the Fruit-of-Kaboom underwear bomber via the Internet.  The guy who's in Yemen, who Obama gave the shoot-to-kill order on (even though he's an American citizen).

Meh we survived widespread popularity of lipstick. At one time thought to be the work of the devil. Used be evil women to ensnare men.

In Medieval England lipstick was banned by the church. It was seen as an "incarnation of Satan" because the alteration of a woman's face challenged God's workmanship. Pictures of devils putting lipstick on women appeared often and sinners would admit to lipstick-wearing at confession. Some liturgical texts denounced it as a mortal sin. A 17th-century English pastor, Thomas Hall, declared that face-painting was "the devil's work" and that women who put brush to mouth were trying to "ensnare others and to kindle a fire and flame of lust in the hearts of those who cast their eyes upon them."

Part of this condemnation sprang from a fear of disguise and falsehood. Which was why, in 1770, the English Parliament passed a law condemning lipstick, stating that women found guilty of "seducing men into matrimony by a cosmetic means" could be tried for witchcraft and/or their marriage annulled.

A lot of cultures fixate on processes that have to do with fertility -- both reproductive fertility and the fertility of the soil by returning nutrients to it.

Case in point #1: Pompeii mosaics.

Case in point #2: Catalan Christmas decorations.

One school of conservative thought says, you give the aid recipient cash and let them do what they want with it, and if they make fatally bad choices, too bad for them.  Another says you give them what they need rather than let them exercise choice, because they've already shown that their judgment is abysmal.

But liberals can't tolerate either of those ideas, so they give cash-like aid, expect the recipients to use it wisely, and then impose ever greater conditions and restrictions (all of which are easily circumvented, by the way) to try to keep the recipients from blowing the aid.

215 Some doctors theorize that women who had contact with their husband's semen during pregnancy suffered fewer complications such as eclampsia.

There is no way they found a sufficient sample of pregnant women who have touched semen to come to any scientifically valid conclusion.

Posted by: Chris in Va at October 20, 2010 08:08 PM (uCjoj)

They are, but nobody told the deer that.  They tend to see our nice lawns and flower gardens as smorgasbords.

Posted by: stuiec at October 20, 2010 04:11 PM (7AOgy)

252 Well, I dunno about VA, but in CA the deer come out of the mountains when it's dry and they're looking for drinking water, or when a new development has chased them out of their former habitat.  Back home, growing up in the Bay Area, we had a couple of generations of mule deer traipsing through our back yard.  My mom used to put out a tub full of water and a salt lick for them.

That only encourages them!

We're in the East Bay, over the hills from Oakland.  We have a tiny fishpond in front of our house.  The deer drink from it.  We planted "deer resistant" plants and so far the deer seem not to like eating them, so they're working.  But when we moved in ten years ago, there were 3-foot net extensions on top of our 7-foot fence to keep the deer out of our backyard, where the roses are.  They LOVE nummy, nummy roses.

Well, yeah!  My mom is the queen of animal lovers.  No, not that way, ya buncha pervs! And not in a PETA kind of way, either.  She always tried to save the poor battered mice and lizards our cat would drag in, and she successfully raised a fledgling scrub jay that fell out of its nest during a storm.  We had lots of pets growing up, too.
