Katy Perry on Sesame Street
— Ace

The segment might get chopped from the show because she's showing boobies.

Since her persona is sort of hyper-sexual, she shouldn't be on Sesame Street, right? The actual dress isn't all that immodest. But you don't really want kids looking up what other fun songs she does, do you?

So much wrong with this...

Just off the top of my head:
1) You're a TV show, I'm pretty sure she didn't pick out her own wardrobe for the skit.
2) This is like people (moderate squishes, mostly) who claim Obama fooled them: if you didn't know what you were getting, it was because you were willfully ignorant.

Does it make me a crusty old fuck if I don't know who the hell Katy Perry is?

You're not alone, chum. The only reason I knew her is that a while back, she was a "Christian singer" (har har har) and my Church advocated her as a "wholesome alternative" for the young 'uns in the congregation. Their regret was large when Katy...let us say, strayed from the wholesome path. The Christian music phase was obviously just a springboard into mainstream pop (and the music was just as bad anyhow, so it's not like it was any kind of devastating loss to the religious music market).

The only overtly religious singer in modern times who made a crossover into pop mainstream without going "secular" was Amy Grant, as far as I know. (Creed was never an explicitly Christian band, as far as I know.)

This chick Katy Perry is pathetic, and such a bore.  She isn't tantalizing at all.  Any by that, I don't mean that she isn't hot.... I just mean that she isn't sexy at all.

She is so explicit with her "hidden signals" that it takes all the sexiness out of it.  She reminds me of this situation:

You go out with a group of friends to a bar.  In that group, there is a fat chick that nobody really likes, but tags along all the time anyways.  While you are out and all getting hammered, the fat chick starts (secretly) signaling blowjob signs to you, letting you know that if you want she will blow you and keep it a secret.  No matter how much you might want a blowjob, you just aren't turned on to this proposal.  It reeks too much of desperation and obviousness from a fat chick who is starving for some kind of attention.

Katy Perry is that fat chick.

Its likely you've heard her music and blocked it from your memory, because nowadays music is so "visual" and without the visual component you won't remember it or have any desire to listen to it.

78 ">>>s this the same scrunt who put some guy on blast for not asking her out in high school? i never heard this, what does it mean? What is 'on blast?'" She put on a concert at her old high school and there was an old classmate of hers in the crowd and she pointed him out and kinda heckled him a little for not ever asking her out. She said she used to have a crush on him. Then she dedicated her song "Ur so gay" to him. I don't think it was that bad. He said he was a little embarrassed but it was mostly just playful and funny, and he never knew that she had a crush on him. Oh and to put someone "on blast" is when you call them out on something or embarrass them in front of other people.

Oh, I remember when The Muppet Show had Alice Cooper as the musical guest of the evening. He did "Welcome to My Nightmare", and I've been messed up ever since. This is no big deal.

Katy Perry is amusing. She hates GaGa, and that's good enough for me. Besides, strip club DJ's are still going to be playing "I Kissed A Girl" in twenty years the way they still play "Girls, Girls, Girls" by the Crue.

Posted by: SGT Dan at September 23, 2010 11:49 AM (QUuUE)

99 If you have not heard of Katy Perry, you are spending way too much time on political blogs.

If you honestly don't like Katy Perry's looks, then you are some sort of weird alien life form that gauges hotness by the color of suckers on someone's third tentacle, or somesuch.

I suppose it is theoretically possible for a sane, rational human being to NOT enjoy her catchy, pleasant music, but it is highly improbable to happen in the known universe, especially if the music is accompanied by video.

As for those who would somehow diminish our enjoyment of this entertainer, please desist. We have only months, perhaps a few years, to enjoy her before she becomes totally skanked out to the extent that even we pathetic middle-aged letches stop thinking "Va-va-VOOM" and start thinking "Man, that is someone's daughter". We have already lost Lady Ga-Ga.

Please let us enjoy this short, precious time.

101 Tickle Me, Katy.

Please.

102 So, they don't want to offend a few delusional parents who still believe there's a chance their daughter won't grow up to be a whore?

That said, the dress was fine. The skit was cute.

103 Puhleeze!

Miss USA...hell, Miss Teen USA contestants wear less. As do the "stars" on Dancing with the Stars.

And, despite her songs like "I Kissed a Girl", she comes from a great family, is a one-man type of girl, is not rumored to be slutty and probably did the spot for PBS unpaid.

This is bullshit.

104 My daughter and her friend (5yo) were bouncing and bopping to an old New York Dolls track, sitting in their booster seats on their way home last night.

They are, however, getting to about the point where they are learning lyrics now, so I'm going to have to be a little careful about the music selection for about the next eight years.

105 I didn't give a damn about Katy Perry until I heard two eleven year old girls sing "I kissed a Girl."

Posted by: Aaron at September 23, 2010 12:06 PM (XUIJ5)

106 Oh, she's cute as hell, but did she strike anyone else as a petulant whiner within about 3 seconds of her arrival?

Sucks, I have a thing for the Snow White look, too.

Posted by: Merovign, Strong on His Mountain at September 23, 2010 12:10 PM (bxiXv)

107 Yeah, this suxs. I can't stand that creep she's marrying either. He's not funny and he's butt fugly. He insulted the US at award shows and he publicly was an ass to Andrew Sachs, aka, Manual of Fawlty Towers.

Posted by: Moi at September 23, 2010 12:10 PM (Ez4Ql)

108 The venue is Sesame Street. Ergo dress *is* immodest. It just isn't that immodest for *her.* Do I think *that* is a reason for her not to go on Sesame Street? Maybe, maybe not.

Gloria Estefan put on a jean jacket over a gold lame number when she went on Sesame Street. There's vid, don't know if it's on the 'tube or not.

115 did she strike anyone else as a petulant whiner within about 3 seconds of her arrival?

No; no she did not.

Possibly because only a nit-picking, neurotic fault finder obsessed with magnifying any minor imperfection could overlook her cheerful, fun demeanor in order to seize upon that strange observation.

116 jmflynny,

cut, jib, newsletter, sir. Definitely the newsletter, especially if it includes Katy Perry-related content.

Posted by: Sweet Lou at September 23, 2010 12:48 PM (irk3g)

117 That's it?

What is supposed to be so shocking about her outfit?

Has Sesame St been taken over by the Taliban and now women must wear the burka or something?

Posted by: GhostShip at September 23, 2010 01:04 PM (4VxpQ)

118 Given that one of the hottest fashion trends for toddlers and grade-schoolers has been the Brittany Spears Junior Skank Collection, I fail to see any problem with this.

Except that they've apparently turned Sesame Street into an all-green-screen neighborhood.  WTF, CTW.  Srsly.

119 The song that this video is based on was an instant hit with my six year-old son, which should tell you something about the quality of the music.

"Zoe Dechannel she is not"

Actually, she kind of is.  It's uncanny, really.  I'm not sure I could easily tell them apart in a line-up.

And they're both hot.

123 #103,

You have got to be kidding. That girl apparently cannot sing, otherwise she wouldn't be so heavily auto-tuned. She could have a voice like Tone Loc and you'd never know it from that bit of computer generated audio. OTOH, I've heard Katy Perry perform live. I was doing network support at You Tube Live a few years ago and she was the headliner. She's got serious pipes in addition to the notable visual accessories.

The idea that Katy Perry on Sesame Street is some terrible threat to innocence is silly. If the kid is old enough to look up her other videos online, then the kid is too old for Sesame Street. Back when, it was the point where you'd graduated to 'The Electric Company.' Remember? That PBS show whose most famous alumnus had his first big film role as a homicidal pimp before playing presidents and deities?

124 Zoe Deschanel was sort of a beta version of Katy Perry.

Posted by: Sweet Lou at September 23, 2010 02:35 PM (irk3g)

125 Also, the kids never see videos like the one in the updated title...ever.

126 Katy Perry may be a talented singer, but it sure is impossible to tell from the overprocessed shit-pop she sings.

127 What's the big deal?

Can you think of a better way to count to two?

Posted by: CoolCzech at September 23, 2010 03:31 PM (tJjm/)

128 Katy Perry is another in the line of over-produced media products. Everything is Harmonized, over-compressed, levelized and made for the broadcast and MP3 download market. There's no real talent any more in Top 40 music. Damn near everything can be written with just 4 chords in the rhythm line. If you don't believe me, take a look at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pidokakU4I

Of course, I wouldn't kick her out of bed in the morning. I'd roll her over and give it to her again.

Zoe Deschanel is adorable; What is she talented at?

Pay attention parents (especially Christians), Perry is what happens when you don't let your kids watch the Simpsons or read books with the word 'fart' in them.

131 Dave M:

Zoe is perfectly fine as a sort of prototype Katy. You are perfectly right; though adorable, Zoe does not have Katy's great voice, nor really any talent except for passable acting. Which Katy is better at anyway.

Posted by: Sweet Lou at September 23, 2010 06:17 PM (eye/E)

132 I think I need to have a conversation with Ms. Perry about this,  in private of course, with perhaps a bottle of wine and some soft music even if only to soften the mood for a very important subject.  And if all goes right she will willingly accept her much disserved spanks for her poor behavior.  Only then can we hope she has learned her lesson or face further actions by me up to and including hot wax on her.....

"I kissed a Girl" doesn't shock people any more so Katy Perry is working on a new hit single called:

" I just shat in a girl's mouth on Youtube and fucked two pigs, one of which was dead, and set the Louvre on fire with some stolen thermite and then I bought a lottery ticket and scratched it off with your dad's false teeth clenached between my buttocks, and I won $3, so fuck you."

On the B-side is a slower paced power ballad called " Last Night I dreamed that Lyndsey Lohan stabbed Justin Beiber right in the eye with a speeding car. "

64 Zoe Dechannel she is not.

Zoe Dechannel in a stewardess' outfit in the movie "Almost Famous" was a visage nothing short of glorious.
