— Gabriel Malor I had intended to be around for more blogging today; that obviously didn't work out. If you're wondering when we'll have more content, I'll be blogging up a storm tomorrow.
For now, I saw something at the Dodgers game yesterday that simply cannot go unremarked. And that's the "Top Ten Comic Book Super Villain" list they put up during one of the commercial breaks. I'm not gonna spoil my own poll by telling you what they'd selected as the Number 1 villain, but it was all wrong...I think. Now I want to know what you think.
I couldn't remember all ten from their list, but these at least were on it.

Speaking of The Brood, you dont think H.R. Geiger and Ridley Scott ripped off The Uncanny X-Men when they did Alien do you?
From: Wiki:
The Brood possess wings, fanged teeth and a stinging tail. They have a mentality and mindlessly follow a hivequeen. To reproduce, they must infect other races with their eggs.

I was determined to not vote for The Joker when I saw the poll topic. Then I saw the list and voted for him anyway. It really is hard to think of another who is better. Luthor definitely deserves his props. The rest are good/bad in their own ways. Galactus always annoyed me because he was pretty much omnipotent but was still foiled at every turn.
You know who is truly under-rated? Loki from the Thor comics. Total bad-ass, ahead of his times for the popular culture, he shoulda been a contenda'.
I'm not a full-fledged comic geek, so feel free to criticize/correct me.

I'm going to have to say Venom.
Why? Because all the others aren't bad guys.
Galactus is a neutral force of nature eating the planets of the just and unjust alike. It's like saying a tornado is a bad guy.
Joker is a psycho like a rabid dog.
Green Goblin is also a few blocks short of a Lego set.
Magneto was sent to fucking Auschwitz when he was a kid so you can see why he's a little sensitive about mutants being treated shabbily.
Lex Luthor was a successful businessman providing jobs to the citizens of Metropolis. How many jobs does Superman provide? None, yet he's more beloved than me... uh, Mr. Luthor?
Dr. Doom with his clearly superior intellect is doing the world a favor for wanting to rule the world and he would if it wasn't for that close-minded Reed Richards.
But Venom, at least the current one, just loves to engage in unspeakable acts with helpless victims just for the hell of it.

Worst was the Penguin. He was even bad in the comic books. (Don't get me started on that DeVito abomination.) I mean really, if you're going to go to the trouble to create a theme for your life of crime (something not enough modern criminals bother to do, IMO), a stupid PENGUIN? Fercrissakes, if you can't come up with a better idea than a frakkin' penguin, maybe you should just stick to being law abiding.

The Doctor: "...Listen - your life could depend on this - don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast, faster than you could believe. Don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink. Good luck."
The story is based on the childhood fear that your dolls are always watching you, & that they stop moving when you look at them. In this case, though, the dolls will kill & consume you. It sounds silly until you actually see it.

I proposed to my fanboy friends a Marvel/DC/Darkhorse one-shot. It was "Hawkeye and Green Arrow vs. Aliens and Predators." Instead of an actual comic, it was to be just a wall sized poster of our two favorite archers, surrounded by As and Ps, shaking hands and saying, "Nice meeting you." "Likewise." It was met with minimal enthusiasm.

88 My vote goes to Thanos of Titan. Killed his mother for giving birth to him. Tortured his granddaughter and brother just to show off. Killed half of all life in the Marvel Universe (Puppies included) because he loved Death. Donated to Obama in 2008.
I loved it when Death refused to talk to him because he was too lowly to be aknowledged by her. After he went through so much shit to create the Infinity Gauntlet to impress her, she then refused to talk to him because she was too lowly to be aknowledged by him.

He was a product of tragedy too, more so than in the movie, I thought. In the series he had a fiancee and seemed to be on top of the world. And he was friends with Bruce Wayne. I agree he was definitely a dark villain, but he also seemed to be the most tragic.

My grandad used to bring us all comic books once a week when he got paid on Wednesdays. He was a pressman for the Indianapolis Star.
I was always irritated when I got Superman with Mr. Mxyzptlk. I wanted Green Lantern .."By brightest day, By blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let all who worship evil's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's light."
Anyway, Mr. Mxyzptlk was lame.

I voted for the Joker. He's a psychotic mass-murderer with zero empathy. Usually that's not the kind of person you'd probably want to spend your Sunday night with.
I think the Joker is immensely intelligent, and recognizes a lot of the problems with society with the intent to change it for the better. You might immediately think that his methodology of killing people is probably not the best answer to solving society's problems, although it does have its merits. It gets people off their asses, for one.

Sorry, but the Doctor also describes them as the nicest psychotic murderers in the universe, as they zap you into the past and make you live to death. How can they be the meanest, baddest, scariest, or anything-ist villains with an MO like that? 'Course, having to relive the 70's might be a fate worse than death...

Possibly. But how huge is huge? Give us a benchmark here.
Larger than is realistic for most normal women without the aid of surgery.
Define freakishly large.

I think he stopped killing way before that. In the late '30s / early '40s stories Batman would regularly shoot adversaries, throw them off rooftops, etc. but pretty much stopped when Robin showed up and the whole thing became 52 monthly pages of big gay subtext a lot tamer and brighter.
What I like about Batman's "no-kill" policy is that it elevates him above the typical murderous sociopath anti-hero that was trendy in comics when I was growing up (and probably still today). Some of the best Batman stories are the ones where he has the Joker helpless and muses "you know, I really ought to just kill this son of a bitch right here 'cause who knows how many more people he'll butcher if I don't," but just can't bring himself to take a life, not even this one.

If you have to pick just one, I'd say Adrian Veidt from Watchmen (but I can understand leaving him off the list since he's a one-off character really).
But beyond that Darkseid, Braniac, Two-Face, Kingpin, Ra's Al Ghul all should be on that list.
I'm really outing myself out as a dork at this point, so I might as well go the full length and say that they kind of ruined Luthor for me with that whole plot where he becomes president (which was cool) but then falls on the heels of a blatantly truther-ish scandal (aliens invaded, but he know man, he knew, and he didn't do anything to stop it until it was happening so he could look like like a hero, man. i mean, c'mon. please. and batman and co. storming the white house to oust him. ugh.)

Dr. Doom would have been my second choice, mainly because he strikes me as more of a straight up evil genius kind of villain.
Lex Luthor just kind of sucks because, well, all of Superman's villains kind of suck.
Galactus is just a dude looking for some grub, so can you blame him.
Venom is just pissed off at one guy, really, and he isn't really that diabolical.
Magneto's more just angsty than evil.
To restate my earlier post, Adrian Veit/Ozymandias should have been a choice. Not only a total prick of a villain, but quite a bit Obama-esque.

Maybe not. The value of toys and comic books and magazines is totally based on their condition and how rare they are. Any slight imperfection, page crimped, etc. will downgrade the comic's or Mad's value. As for the dolls, they also neeed to be in really really good condition and preferably, as they say, Mint in the Box. Again, if they were rare, condition can be less than perfect. And yeah, I used to sell all kinds of toy and comic collectibles. The only thing I could kick myself for was when I sold my Fantastic Four #48 and Conan #1 several years ago and the ridiculously low prices I got. Sigh...needed the money at the time.

The only comics I ever read were Batman, because he was the only character I ever found interesting and because, when you get right down to it, super powers are just plain fucking ridiculous.
I read and avidly collected the Batbooks off-and-on well into my 20s before finally falling off. The quality of the writing fell off, the liberal agenda that saturates most comic books nowadays became intolerable, and I just got sick of having to comb through half a zillion different titles, keep up with impossibly complicated continuities, and choose between a bunch of different fucking shrink-wrapped holofoil "collector's covers" just to read a single story.
My favorites were always one-shot graphic novels (like "The Killing Joke", "The Cult", "Red Rain", and so on) and "Legends of the Dark Knight", because for the most part I didn't have to put up with any of that shit.
More recently, I read "The Walking Dead" for the first 30 or so issues before it became too tedious to bother with. A year ago I sold my whole batch of 'em, including a first printing of #1, for several hundred dollars. That's been it for me and comic books ever since; they cost more and offer less than ever before.

"On his first ever trip to the golf course; he shot 38-under par, including 5 hole-in-ones! This is reported by the government controlled media. He routinely shoots 3 or 4 hole-in-ones every time out."
This sounds almost as fantastic and believable as the crock of crap coming from the Obama Cabal. Actually, the Obamanation beats the North Korean's in the quality of bullshit releases, but Dear Leader will always top the lie-a-thon record with his 5 holes-in-one. Bitchin' man!

She is and that makes her less than attractive to Barry the Tolerant - but he doesn't want to be the one who says so, so he cynically and pre-emptively blames the right and the right blogesphere for trashing her proclivities, and supplies all of the insults for good measure. It's pretty convoluted but he has it set up to where if she does make through the nomination process he is a hero to the gheys and if she doesn't, he is the tragic hero whose plans were foiled by the evil, bigotted right. He wins in any case and she cannot but lose. Of course the left love him for his brilliance in playing the game no matter how it turns out. Their eyes are too glazed to realize that he is playing them (rightly so from my perspective) as infatuated idiots, blinded by love.

Power Girl drawn by Amanda Conner.
Actually, everyone draws big boobs, but you can always tell a guy is drawing depending on how they draw a chick from the waist down IFYWIMAITYD.

That guy is not to be fcked with.
Galactus is a force of nature and thus doesn't count. He eats planets cause eating planets is what a world devourer does best.
Green Goblin is pretty bad ass. He's nucking futs and manages to sleaze his way into power.
Lex Luthor stole forty cakes. That's as many as four tens. And that's terrible.
Magneto...right now he's a joke. He's at times a supreme bad ass and at other times a giant pansy. He's just inconsistent.
Venom sucks. Yeah, he hates Peter Parker and wants to eat his brains, but that's about it.
Joker is.....well, certainly makes psychopathy look fun, but until he actually has a reason for being I've never been particularly enamored with the character.
If I had to replace Galactus (not strictly a villain) with someone else from that list, I'd put in Captain Cold from the Flash's rogues gallery. If you're gonna be a villain, be a working stiff. He's had it rough. He's got principles. He drinks hard, he loves hard and if you fck with him and you're a dead man.

I've never heard of Galactus, so I'm probably the wrong person to debate this point, but if he had the power to destroy worlds, he's a total loser (since presumably, he lost to the superheros). That's a ton of power. It's not dramatic when great power is leveraged for small results. That's why superman is such a fucking waste.
Joker was barely even a functional man, and what he accomplished is usually clever. Just like Batman. Superman should have had armies of giant robots ready. He should have caused world peace and plentiful food and built colonies on Mars. Some prime directive crap (if he even had one) would be irrelevant. Earth was his planet and he barely did anything for it. Occasionally he'd stop some lame bank robbers, basically. Why even notice that? Lex Luthor wants a lot of money? Who cares. If he gets in your way, cut his head off and get back to building.
All that power, and supposedly super genius, and it's always undramatic. His movies are generally extremely pathetic, except the one where he gives up his powers (which is downright horrible... laying down the means to do great good is evil).
So that's why Joker or Batman are so appealing. They don't have to dance around the reality of their powers.

The They Might Be Giants song 'Where Your Eyes Don't Go' would have been perfect piece to go with that episode.
