— DrewM History is calling, must deal with the bill as is, not as he'd like it to be.
He's been banging on this plan, saying, as recently as Sunday, it's a giveaway to the insurance companies.
Yeah, well that was then and this is now.
He's saying his vote might be the deciding one.
Relying on a health care socialist to derail ObamaCare was not going to be a winner for us.
Obviously every vote counts and loosing one is tough but this bit of theater may be a sign that Pelosi is short and needs to create some momentum. The question is how much cover will a leading progressive like Kucinich give to other liberal no switch to yes?
Now that we don't need Kucinich, we can stop pretending he's useful in the least, though in fairness, let's give the Devil his due.

He said his wife, pictured above, was instrumental in his decision to vote yes. I will fess up, I'd sell you all out to for her.

Ramesh says:
"We learned what Rep. Kucinich was made of years ago, when getting slammed in The Nation moved him to abandon a consistent pro-life voting record. (Among the political triumphs this enabled was Ani DiFranco's endorsement of his presidential bid.) This flip-flop is small change."

Kucinich is just doing his part to further the "inevitability meme." This moron is a perfect example of an unprincipled politician who pretends to be a principled politician but can bought with attention and rhetoric from Democratic leaders. Only days ago he said he was a firm "No" vote, now he does a 180 to support. He's a piece of crap as a person and politician, and is a perfect example of what's wrong with our politicians and political system. Oh, it's easy to have supposed principles when it's for his ideas that will NEVER be adopted (e.g., his plans for cutting the defense budget to virtually nothing, Department of Peace, etc.), but on an actual issue in which he actually had influence, he threw out his principles because he was flattered by the attention. Kucinich knows where he can stick that peace sign he's always flashing to the cameras.

I agree with this assessment but I still find it funny that Kucinich is such a moron who lacks foresight that he couldn't see that this bill pushed the country closer to a single-payer system, which is why many of us oppose it. The guy is such a moron, as evidenced by his preferred policies on a whole rash of issues and his performance as Mayor of Cleveland, as he has proven time and time again that he has no ability to see the consequences of various policies. So, like a child, he needs another mental midget (Barry) explaining the big picture to him. What a joke. One moron leading the other.

"I have doubts about this bill," Kucinich said at a news conference he called to announce his decision to vote yes, adding: "This is not the bill I wanted to support."
"However, after careful discussions with President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, my wife Elisabeth and close friends I have decided to cast a vote in favor of the legislation," he announced.
"...and after the nutroots threatened to abandon me and "primary" me - I caved."

I would at least stop surfing the web long enough to hear her out.
Regarding the vote, I predict the Stupac Dozen will hold firm as "No's" and the Progressive Caucus will become "Yes's" since Dennis has now given them permission to vote "yes".
Basically, it will come down to the Blue Dogs. (But, we knew this.) The question here is unless you are in a safe dem district, how in the world do you possibly see yourself getting re-elected given the damage the leadership has done to your "brand"? If you don't see a chance to be re-elected, do you go out in a blaze of glory and vote yes to spite your constituents?

Most likely what happened is that Emanuel has a special Bambi coloring book made up that explains the bill for people like Kucinich and Markey who are "slow learners".
The coloring book would take you step by step through the process of getting as much as you can get with the current makeup. Then as time moves on you can take that camel's nose and enlarge it until the government is the entire healthcare system. Ergo, nationalization.
So then the Kucinich commie understands he gets what he wants, full on commie, just not today.

The fact that Kucinich is supporting it could also push the moderate Democrats (Blue Dogs) to vote "No" because a well-known far Leftist like Kucinich is supporting it. His support could actually give them cover to oppose the bill. Then again, this assumes that any Democrat thinks logically instead of simply holding out to get more government funds for their state or district.

The Republicans need to vacate Washington right now and go back to their constituencies and hold 'emergency' town hall meetings.
Actually that's exactly what they need to do, but instead of holding the town hall meetings in their own districts, they need to hold town hall meetings in the districts of all these "maybe" votes in the House.
You want to talk about putting the pressure on, I can't think of a better way to do it. Have prominent republican's schedule a town hall for those districts, invite the democrat in question to a town hall in his own home district and dare him not to show up.
That I'd love to see.

The Blue Dogs were specially recruited by the Dims as stalking horses in red and purple districts as "one issue" frauds - abortion, bullshit fiscal conservative nonsense and half-assed populism. Every one of them is a fraud.
Well - except for one - I've lived in Boren's district up in Oklahoma. He stays as a Dim just for his family history, but he's the most conservative Dim in the House and is more conservative than most of the Pubbies. So we'll cut him some slack. Even the Dims know that he has a job for life and they won't fuck with him.
I've watched since the 60's as Texas changed from a Dim state where a registered Pubbie had trouble getting a state job in Austin to where we got our first Pubbie governor since Reconstruction back in the late 70's. (Bill Clements - a real conservative hardass)
The Dims don't like being in the minority. They connive and lie and plot to fool the dumbest voters.

Another case of "by any means necessary" for the Traitor-in-Chief and his America-hating cabal.
The only alternative to the total destruction of the USA -- and the inevitable reign of terror that will follow -- is mass arrests of the treasonous bastards in Congress and at the White House. Why anyone (Ed Morrissey, for example) thinks this is still a time for weak-kneed "process" discussion is totally beyond me.

I've lived in his district. Middle/lower-middle class. Overwhelmingly white (at least until the last decade or so when the tenements started popping up in the burbs). Overwhelmingly Eastern European (especially Polish and German). Primarily blue collar.
But the principal demographic that keeps this mutant freak in office are the fossils. For whatever reason, old people can't get them enough of this deranged former welfare parasite, even though they're old enough to have lived through his unbelievably incompetent reign as mayor (when he bankrupted the city).

Gollum is damaged goods, going back to his bankruptcy-inducing stint as Mayor of Cleveland. Afterwards, he was "found" jobs at CNB, where he did zip. Zip. From there he found his way to rep of a lib district, whose shining jewel - Shaker Heights - is now a decaying cesspool where the full effects of theCRA can be seen for any with eyes.

There was an episode where he went to his high school reunion and took the black girl from the hotel as his date. Quoth Hanks:
"When you shake Shaker Heights, very few black people fall out."

This am's AP story reads:
...as a liberal lawmaker [Kucinich] became the first to switch his opposition...
At stake is a bill that would cover some 30 million uninsured people, end insurance practices such as denying coverage to those with a pre-existing conditions, require almost all Americans to get coverage by law and try to slow the cost of medical care nationwide.
At stake is a bill that will do wonderful things for all of us, puppies and kittens alike. That summary of what's at stake could have been written by Nancy Pelosi, AP.
BTW, was it ?
And what does AP know that they aren't telling me ? If Kucinich is "the first" they're either hoping really hard for more to follow or they already know more will follow. Either way, could they let me in on the scoop ?

1. Kucinich is untouchable – He’s gerrymandered in a way that his entire voting block consists of blue-collar unions and he’s not up again, IIRC, until ‘12.
2. Boccieri, Fudge and Kaptur were NO votes the first time – Fudge will go with Dennis. Boccieri and Kaptur are on the fence but Dennis is expected to bring them along since they are his literal congressional neighbors.
FOCUS ON BOCCIERI and KAPTUR – if they go with Dennis, it’s game over.

Boccieri's been the target of a lot of ads recently that are hammering him for being unreliable; whoever's running them is trying to tap into what must be a significant conservative presence in his district. Kaptur is almost as big a commie as Kucinich; she represents the shithole that Toledo has become which puts her midway in the geographical setting of Dennis, Jennifer Granholm, both Conyers and Kwame Kirkpatrick. "Cleveland Heights is reliably Democratic. All seven members of Council are Democrats. In the 20008 presidential election, Barack Obama defeated John McCain 84.2%-15.0%, while in the 2004 presidential election, John Kerry defeated George W. Bush 80.8%-18.8% in the city."

That's a nice area. It won't be for long. The underclass scourge will consume what little is left of Parma, barely break a sweat wiping out Seven Hills, and then set up for the long siege of Independence and Brecksville.
Their high tax bases can only hold out so long, especially with a crappy housing market and a lot of underwater mortgages. Then the new "this time we'll be safe" frontier will be former sticktowns Medina, Hudson, and Twinsburg. Rinse and repeat.
And they'll all keep voting for the same Democrats that are trying to impoverish and purge them (and continue stripping services -- pass this levy or we're cutting school to four hours a day (teachers still get raises though), though given the state of the Ohio GOP, I can't say I blame them too much.

BTW the hitman was an undercover cop. Don't know how much "evidence" he gathered before he made the bust.

Boccieri's a good possibility to be a no. His district is fairly Conservative, especially on social issues like abortion. Kaptur is a pork queen, she can be bought with a slice of bacon. I'll be surprised if she doesn't cut a deal.

This little weasel never was a no. He just wanted to pretend he had changed his mind to make the news.
And who in their right mind thinks that woman loves him. She is hoping he will kick the bucket so she can be appointed to his seat, without having to work hard to earn it. In addition to getting his money, which he probably has plenty of.
