Lakers Win; Let's Riot
— Gabriel Malor

My fellow Angelenos are having paroxysms of joy. This is a "classic" L.A. moment:

Some people kicked a Honda car parked on Figueroa Street, shattering its windows. But others tried to protect the car. One in that group said: "You ainÂ’t from L.A. This is L.A. No burning."

Here in Hollywood, the police have preemptively blocked streets. Folks are wandering out to get their photos taken in front of the riot-geared police lines.

There have been about a dozen arrests so far. Folks are running onto the 110 freeway, apparently. Folks are jumping on cars. A couple Lakers fans are attacking other Lakers fans. As the TV lady says, "This is a sweet victory." The TV guy jumps in, "but this doesn't just happen in Los Angeles, uh, they do this in Detroit too."

LAPD already declared it an "unlawful gathering" after some downtown condos got smashed up, but they're probably gonna have to beat the shit out of somebody before anyone takes them seriously.

1 I don't get it. They riot when they win, they riot when they lose. It's lose-lose for the cities. The fuck they need to riot for anyway? If I were Beck, I'd order all my cops to shoot on site any and all rioters. This is all bullshit. I hate this damn city.

On the radio, they just reported a Rolls Royce at a light was being vandalized, a guy with kids in the car, and he ended up running a red light to get away.

Doing the same thing in downtown Austin. And your description fits perfectly.

I used to work in downtown Austin right of 6th street (party central) and I had to walk a few blocks from the parking garage to the office. Monday mornings were fun, dodging the puddles of puke and piles of human excrement.

Bullshit. No they don't. They did it in exactly once in 1984 and haven't ever done it since after the seven titles that followed. But that doesn't stop the media from saying that Detroiters riot after sports championships every time some other city does it. Boston rioted TWICE in 2004, once for the Red Sox and once for the Patriots, then AGAIN in 2007 for the Sox. Yet the media always falls back on Detroit despite the fact that there hasn't been a sports riot there for over a quarter of a century.
