— Gabriel Malor My fellow Angelenos are having paroxysms of joy. This is a "classic" L.A. moment:
Some people kicked a Honda car parked on Figueroa Street, shattering its windows. But others tried to protect the car. One in that group said: "You ainÂ’t from L.A. This is L.A. No burning."
Here in Hollywood, the police have preemptively blocked streets. Folks are wandering out to get their photos taken in front of the riot-geared police lines.
There have been about a dozen arrests so far. Folks are running onto the 110 freeway, apparently. Folks are jumping on cars. A couple Lakers fans are attacking other Lakers fans. As the TV lady says, "This is a sweet victory." The TV guy jumps in, "but this doesn't just happen in Los Angeles, uh, they do this in Detroit too."
LAPD already declared it an "unlawful gathering" after some downtown condos got smashed up, but they're probably gonna have to beat the shit out of somebody before anyone takes them seriously.

Ah, the true character of Lakers fans! Gee, do you think race has anything to do with it? --That's an observation/question no one in the media will pose. That's not PC and we have to pretend that those in the ghetto might be there because of their character, or lack of it. Now, is that a hateful comment? Hmmmmm???

@30: " I hardly ever go Downtown. Don't see a reason to. When I was looking for a job I didn't bother applying anywhere down there. Jesus, what a shithole."
Untrue! Erroneous! Downtown LA is very nice. We don't have crackhouses, we have crackhomes.

Is it too early to speculate on the ethnic makeup of the rioters?
This is my prediction:
80% Mexican
15% Black
5% "Other"
Now off I go to look at the pics!

Ha! I love that they're gentrifying Downtown with million-dollar lofts. Yes, I want to buy a tiny little loft for a million dollars when I have to step over hobos to get to the entrance of the building and dodge crack whores and gang bangers if I decide to play Russian roulette and walk around after dark.

Heh, $800K for 800 sq/ft., no parking spot. It's a deal!
Of course, some partners at my old firm bought one for use as a stabbin' cabin.

Doing the same thing in downtown Austin. And your description fits perfectly.
I used to work in downtown Austin right of 6th street (party central) and I had to walk a few blocks from the parking garage to the office. Monday mornings were fun, dodging the puddles of puke and piles of human excrement.

We may be having a minor civil war about Joe Barton, but I sure hope that 100% of Morons can agree that Dale Peterson was and is every inch a Great American Hero. Loved his new ad endorsing McMillan, too.
By the way, I totally disagree with you on the Barton issue, but I fucking love your username.

JaMarcus didn't have the 2 worst QB ratings in league history in back-to-back games. He never blubbered like a baby in his locker room interviews. He never rolled around his team's city trying to get free shit everywhere demanding "don't you know who I am" while sucking worse than anyone ever. And he's not on double-secret shock probation for stealing drugs from a kid he was coaching.
Can't touch this.

But I think statistically careerwise right now Russel actually has a worse record than Leaf. He's probably not nearly as much of a headcase as Leaf, but on the football field his record is better than Russels.

Protecting the honest people of the city is not an "authority" of the city, it is the major duty and obligation. When you are allow riots and anarchy guess what. You will continue to get riots and anarchy until the looters burn the entire city down.

Bullshit. No they don't. They did it in exactly once in 1984 and haven't ever done it since after the seven titles that followed. But that doesn't stop the media from saying that Detroiters riot after sports championships every time some other city does it. Boston rioted TWICE in 2004, once for the Red Sox and once for the Patriots, then AGAIN in 2007 for the Sox. Yet the media always falls back on Detroit despite the fact that there hasn't been a sports riot there for over a quarter of a century.
