The local GOP office "should" be able to give canvassers lists of registered voters by street.  The list can usually be broken down by party and voting record.  When I ran for office, I ALWAYS carried the list.  The door opens, have your back to the door so that you do not scare them when they open the door, they will say yes.  You turn and say, Mrs. "name on list" I am X, and then the pitch.  I said vote for my ass, but you say whatever the state party line is, I'd say "will you support firing Nancy Pelsoi and her commie bitches", well not that exactly.  Ask if they need help getting to poll, etc.

Having the list and using a persons name makes a BIG difference.  You aren't a stranger, also, you don't call on the D's.  Just R's and I's.

66 I went doorknocking on Sunday, for about 5 hours.  It's not the most fun thing I ever did (I live in San Francisco, alas) and I got a lot of crap, but I really feel like I did something.  I've donated more money to political causes this year than all the rest of my life combined, but "boots on the ground" feels more real. I've linked (on my name) some places, and times, in the Boulder / Lafayette area where Stephen Bailey's people will be waving signs and generally letting it be known that this area is NOT a uniformly Blue lake.

Just came back from a town hall event in PG County (MD) for the awesome Charles Lollar (who's running to unseat Steny Hoyer).  He's a great guy, very likeable, positive, and focused on his message.  He can use all the help he can get for GOTV efforts.

105 I voted early and I voted as conservative as I could. Judicial races in NC are "non-partisan" (which has become quite a joke now) -- candidates are not identified by party on the ballot. However, I was prepared this time and checked with the state GOP for their recommendations. I contributed financially what I could afford and I will stay up and watch the election results. I'm on the GOTV driving list but I rarely get called because they have so many volunteers. I'll go if they call, though.

I'm amazed at the high morale of the GOP now. I was told a majority of independents are so fed up with Democrats they may never vote Democrat again. That's fine with me. A few Democrats (loose acquaintances) are crowing that the Democrats are surging back but couldn't answer when I asked what polls they were watching. Must be a super secret poll because most of those I trust say there is going to be a Mass Pudding Immersion on November 3rd.
