— Ace Obviously so, but I didn't expect Nice-Girl Laura to say so.
Asked on “Fox News Sunday” if the press would have been howling over the White House’s reaction to the BP oil spill even louder if it happened on George Bosh’s watch, the ex-First Lady said, “I think that’s right, probably.” And she didn’t think anyone should be surprised. “But you know, it’s just — that’s just how it is.”It’s not just just President Obama who’s getting a break from the media, she said. Michelle Obama has escaped being stereotyped the way Laura was as “mumsy” staying home baking cookies.
“The press in general typecasts every woman that lives in the White House, the other first ladies, because always our first ladies have been a lot more interesting, a lot more complicated, than their box that they’re sort of put in,” Bush said.
But not Michelle.
...
But itÂ’s her husband who ws really the victim of liberal bias.
“I think that, you know, one of the things that happened when George was president was that everything, including the weather, became his fault,” she said. “And it’s just an unrealistic, really, expectation of our president.”
During the Bush years, conservative defenders of Bush said many times, "You know, the President doesn't control everything."
Pish-posh, the media and Democrats (BIRM) said; if a sparrow dies of tuberculosis, that's on your boy.
Since January 20, 2009, so much has changed. Now the President can't be blamed for anything that happens on his watch; everything is simply beyond his control and/or legacies of evil from the Bush Administration.
Now, only the President's nice intentions matter.

Damn, that's what I get for playing that game, and I deserve it.
What was that about making opponents live up to their own standards? Would be nice if we could pull it off, but between many Rs not having enough backbone to fight mean and not having control of the media, it's hard to do.

Think about this.
Big mine disaster happens on Obama's watch. He calls for an investigation, a review of the permits and inspections, new mine safety regulations and laws and enforcement. Says a few words at a memorial service for the dead miners. Then it's all forgotten.
Does he think, "Gee, maybe we should take a look at the permits and inspections and safety regulations for all hazardous mineral extraction? If the US coal industry has a safety problem -- as I have just announced to the world that it does -- wouldn't it stand to reason that similar problems might have cropped up in, say, offshore drilling?
"Naw -- ordering a review of those other processes to head off industrial deaths and environmental disaster is too much like work.
"Besides, why bother? When the next disaster happens, I can just blame it on Bush."
And whaddya know? Just a few weeks after the mine disaster, a deepwater oil well blows out, killing eleven workers and spilling millions of gallons of crude into the Gulf of Mexico.

Let's play...
Who Wrote This?
Let's try a political thought experiment. Imagine that a few months after a new president takes office, his administration approves an offshore oil well a mile beneath the Gulf of Mexico. It is to be run by BP, whose employees were very generous donors to the president's campaign. The oil company airily dismisses the possibility of a catastrophic leak that might destroy the coastline. Nearly a year later, the president—to the dismay of his environmentalist supporters—says he wants to greatly expand offshore drilling. Soon after that, the BP well explodes, and oil spews into the gulf. It's clear to everyone that the blowout is a major catastrophe, requiring a federal mobilization. But the president's initial response is to say, in effect: do not worry, BP will pay for the cleanup. Eleven days pass before he goes to survey the scene.
Of course, this is a sketch of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, and the president is Barack Obama. But here is the rest of the experiment. Imagine the reaction of Washington—the media, Congress, the "national conversation"—if the president wasn't Obama but George W. Bush. "We would be under siege," says Dan Bartlett, who was communications director in the Bush years. "There'd be calls for special prosecutors, investigations everywhere. The focus wouldn't be on what was happening out in the gulf—it would be on what happened in the West Wing."

You notice how when Sarah Palin criticized Obama's new policy on nuclear retaliation, he said, "The last I checked Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues" -- but when she criticized him on his handling of the BP oil spill, he didn't say a word about her? I guess he's just smart enough to understand that she IS an expert (and not just compared to him) on the production and transportation of crude oil.

That's easy to answer. Pearl was working closely with an American diplomat whose son is reputedly the anti-christ. Pearl was trying to pick up a satchel containing the sacred Daggers of Meggido when a pane of glass whizzed through the air and decapitated him.
As you can see, muslims had nothing to do with it.
That's not the story I heard. I heard that Daniel Pearl
was about to infiltrate a gang of "teabaggers", but had his cover
blown. Teabaggers kill their victims by decapitating them with rusty
swords. Only racists would attribute this method of execution to the
Muslims...

To paraphrase the disgust and anxieties which Charles Krauthammer expressed on the news tonight, all around the world, we're witnessing the total collapse of all of Obama's and Clinton's foreign policy "initiatives" for the past 16 months. They're a pair of incredibly incompetent fools.
Our allies are abandoning us and seeking new alliances, because the USA can't be trusted anymore. Our allies are sickened by Obama's kowtowing to our enemies, from which that damned fool has gained nothing but their contempt. Our allies consider Obama to be inept and weak and not very bright.
The USA is in retreat and we're seeing its decline, all of which can attributed directly to that madman and empty suit in the White House. He is a disaster!!! The most irrational and the most incompetent president in the history of this country. Argh, the guy is such a total schmuck!!!!!!
Posted by: For God's sake, impeach Obama NOW. What are you waiting for? at May 17, 2010 07:29 PM (ITzbJ)
As usual, Krauthammer is 16 months late and still doesn't understand what motivates The Precedent. Anyone with a brain understood what was going to happen long before even the election. But, back then, and for some time after, Krauthammer was talking about how intelligent and erudite the Indonesian Imbecile was. In fact, Kraut still thinks the retard has a brain.
I'm glad to see that Kraut is very slowly coming to understand what's going on, but he's late and still wildly, and naively, incorrect about the real problem. Rush understood the situation very well, which is why he said that he hoped the Indonesian Imbecile failed - which Kraut just couldn't comprehend, and still doesn't.

O'Reilly was terrific the first few years of the show but it's a hell of a lot harder to stay on top than to get on top, especially when, starting out, he was pretty much the only dissenting voice on cable. Now, he has to make overt attempts at appearing "objective" and ends up contradicting himself.

That dangerously psychotic racist's only agenda is to redistribute the wealth to people of color.
Also, cite one, just one significant, meaningful or worthwile thing that Holder ot Clinton has accomplished since they were appointed. Oreiley has bcome a "player". Just like so many "conservatives" as soon as they become big they go over to the other side prefering to be part and parcel of the liberal bubble and the ego patting that theliberal elites provide.
The only time I say Bill get really riled up was when his considerable fortune crashed with the market in 2008-09. He has become a self centered, egotistical caricature of a conservative.
I am sorry about Laura Bush. Pro choice, pro gay marriage - what next ? That is why faux-conservatives like George Bush (who is also a nice person) do not have the cajones to fight a full conservative fight. So quick to seperate the social from the fiscal issues.
The social issues are the basis of the moral Judeao Christian contract. If Laura Bush cannot see how pro gay marriage destroys marriage and societies( just look at the black American communities and the effect of the lack of a husband in the home) then she is unfortunately NOT conservative.
Thank God that there is a new generation of true conservatives coming up not swayed as the 50 and 60 year old baby boomers have been by the prevailing culture.
LAURA BUSH has been the biggest dissapointment of many.

Census worker was here at my migrant squat on Saturday. Told her I'd already been counted in Wisconsin; she wanted my name and phone number and I told her she didn't need it. IRS has my name and legal address...the one where I vote, pay taxes, etc. (the one I put down when I attended a McCain/Palin rally in 2008, so I know I'm already on an Obama "enemy of the state" list somewhere...)
She came back tonight, ran the doorbell ten times in fifteen minutes, and finally shouted through the door "Ma'am, it's the U.S. Census." I told her to go away, she said she needed my information, I told her she had it, she huffed for a bit and left the form.
Fucking harassment.
I'm going to have to call, or she's going to keep coming back, and I can't stay out late every night during the workweek...I want to ask for a supervisor to complain about the second visit and the way it was carried out, but what sort of terrorist watch list am I setting myself up for? I fly frequently, I got stopped by the Border Patrol last time I visited Canada...
Bloody fucking hell, I want very little from the federal government, but "being left alone at 8 p.m. to drink beer and watch shitty baseball in my pajamas in the privacy of my own shitty rented room" is at the top of the list.
They visited my boyfriend three times. He sent in the form, but just didn't put down the race. I know that's because we live in a ZIP code that's half Gwen Moore's district ("urban" shall we say...safe Dem, likely black) and half Jim Sensennbrenner's (suburban).
Is this happening to anyone else? Or are we just lucky?

Condi Rice was the biggest disappointment. I thought she was great, having made many assumptions about the advice she was giving as NSA, until she became SecState, came out of the shadows and made it clear how far left-leaning she was. She was awful. Her influence on Bush in the second term was a good part of what made it such a pathetically crappy term. And she used to pull that Road Kill Map out and treat it as if it were a serious document ... it made me puke.
Bush was great in his first term, but when Cheney lost influence, the Bush Presidency really hit the skids. The second term took off leftwards and never looked back.

Rush regularly uses the Murray Head song "One Night in Bangkok" as bumper music. One day, maybe a year ago, he came back from a break with that song and commented, with his usual lovable bombasticism, "One Night... in Bangkok. You know, Bangkok is the prostitution capital of the world. That's why they call it BANGKOK!" Then he proceeded on to to the stack of stuff without further comment.

I guess Bush got so much flack because he did absolutely nothing right. Every other day it was something else. I take exception to this Bush-Whine because myself and many other liberals totally gave him a pass on 9/11. Yep, we were attacked on 9/11 when Bush was president. We all know very well what everyone on this site would be saying if lower Manhattan re-lived that kind of disaster with Pres. Obama in office. You would be all over it. I was even behind him on the war.....until I found out it was total bullshit. The asshole lied our way into war.
As for Mrs. Bush, give me a break. She was the daughter of a wealthy real estate developer. She became a 2nd grade school teacher and a librarian. She left the workforce in 1977. - That's a "mumsy".
Michelle Obama was the daughter of a water-plant worker and a secretary. She graduated from Harvard Law, became a Dean at the U. Of Chicago and was a Vice President at a Hospital. She quit her job during her husband's presidential primary. She's playing a mumsy only because she has to. If she weren't the first lady, she'd be making quite a sacrifice given her professional and educational background.
Jeez, are all you people on drugs or something?

I lost my census form. I was visited by a white man in his mid 50s, well dressed, with the ID badge and the paperwork and he asked me the questions, when we got to race I paused and then I said “put down American” he said “are you sure?” and I said yes, he didn’t say a word, just filled out “American” and finished up the questions. I haven’t been harassed about it. Yet.

360 Revised:
It should be blatantly obvious to everybody by now (1) that Obama doesn't have any foreign policy and (2) that damned fool certainly doesn't have a rational domestic policy either.
That dangerously psychotic racist's only agenda is to redistribute the wealth to people of color, and the whites in Congress are too intimidated by the Black Caucus to object. (You might call it The O.J. Simpson Jury Syndrome, where we witnessed the same cowardly acquiescence by that jury's only three whites.)

She graduated from Harvard Law because of Affirmative Action,, became a Dean at the U. Of Chicago because of same and was a Vice President at a Hospital that screwed poor, sick patients. She gave up her law license under cloudy circumstances and was never asked about it during her husband's presidential primary. She's playing a mumsy only because she has to, even though she hates kids. If she weren't the first lady, she'd be trading on her grievance group status to milk money from the white devil, given her weak professional and educational background.

Yeah - that hospital job was really a great accomplishment. If by accomplishment you mean political payoff. Her position, which paid 200K or more, was SO vital that once the vile bitch left they never filled it again. She's the most corrupt, venal and disgusting first "lady" ever to disgrace the white house. Her crimes are manifold. Malkin's book, Culture of Corruption, provides a nice long laundry list of her sleaze. She's a sack of shit who wastes taxpayer money on perks, cronies, and all manner of luxurious waste and self glorification.
Liberals are always quick to defend criminals, so long as those criminals only fuck over America for the good of the Leftist Agenda. As far as I'm concerned, they're all co-conspirators.

Condi Rice was the biggest
disappointment. I thought she was great, having made many assumptions
about the advice she was giving as NSA, until she became SecState, came
out of the shadows and made it clear how far left-leaning she was. She
was awful. Her influence on Bush in the second term was a good part of
what made it such a pathetically crappy term. And she used to pull that
Road Kill Map out and treat it as if it were a serious document ... it
made me puke.
Bush was great in his first term,
but when Cheney lost influence, the Bush Presidency really hit the
skids. The second term took off leftwards and never looked back.

I don't think she's completely stupid--her thesis hints that she realizes she's not as smart as she's been told she is, and she has to know she's not the beautiful, sexy, women-want-to-be-her-men-want-to-be-with-her (dear God) goddess the media sells her as, and that's gotta hurt. So if we're not going to love her, we're going to respect her authority over our lives, dammit.
Being married to an omega-male of questionable sexual orientation has to be a hurt, too.

Gotta strongly disagree with you, guy. For one thing, Cheney never lost any influence with GW, and for another thing, GW was Da Man.
With all issues being considered, GW and Mrs. Cheney's little boy, Dicky, did a hell of a good job as POTUS and VP during both of their terms.
Remember now, the Democrats controlled Congress during the last two years of GW's presidency, making him a lame duck president, which makes it only that much more outrageous that Obama and other Democrats are slimy enough to blame Bush for the events of those two years.)

St. Elizabeth of the dying of cancer (although you notice she's been 'dying' for at least 15 years!)
I'm telling you she was diagnosed by one of those "experts" that Silky kept on retainer to evaluate clients lie in his ambulance chasing scams.

I voted for W twice, but I can't figure out a way to justify calling him a successful president.
1. He passed NCLB, a massive expansion of federal power and involvement in a local and state issue - public education.
2. He failed to substantively reform either healthcare or social security - the two pillars of liberalism that drive the expansion of federal power.
3. The Prescription Drug Plan has actually added to the deficit and expanded entitlement obligations.
4. He signed McCain-Feingold.
5. He pushed for amnesty and did little to enforce border security.
6. His tax cuts were great, but they didn't SIMPLIFY the code at all. In fact, it's more complicated now than ever.
In my mind, his failures outweigh his successes. Still, he's a heck of a lot better than the clown we have now.

That chapped my ass pretty good right from the beginning. Compassionate conservatism instead of the regular ol' mean and uncaring conservatism. And then the education bill. And the medicare bill. And amnesty. And that SCt pick. Yeah, I think leftward is a good description of his domestic policy.

@514: "In my mind, his failures outweigh his successes. Still, he's a heck of a lot better than the clown we have now"
Bush II was pretty much a disaster - bad plans, bad execution, an untter inability to articulate what he was doing or why, and all the leadership of a used kleenex.
But that just show's Obizzle's true historical value - even with the bar set *that* low, he still not only couldn't clear it, he started tunneling.

And no desire to articulate. He could have sent Darth Barbed Cock out, we know that guy is effective as hell. But he did nothing. Argh!

What is this, kindergarten? Try to make a rational comment for a change, will you?
I've cut your balls off in the past already. So there's no point in humiliating you further.
