On February 4, the quasi-humor, quasi-news, quasi-BSing-for-the-sake-of-BSing website FITSNews ran a story that was almost accurate:

Anyway, in the long and storied history of utterly retarded legislation in South Carolina, we may have finally found the legal statute that takes the cake for sheer stupidity, which we think youÂ’ll agree is saying something.
ItÂ’s called the Â“Subversive Activities Registration Act,Â” and it requires terrorists in South Carolina to Â… get this Â… register with the S.C. Secretary of StateÂ’s office before they start plotting to violently overthrow the government.
From the law:

Every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States, of this State or of any political subdivision thereof by force or violence or other unlawful means, who resides, transacts any business or attempts to influence political action in this State, shall register with the Secretary of State on the forms and at the times prescribed by him.

In fact, that law wasn't aimed at terrorists at all. It was created in 1951 and aimed at communists. The tip-off to this is the language "overthrowing the government of the United States...by force or violence." which is what was in the Communist Party platform before the government started putting people in jail for that kind of thing and they changed it. (Another likely tip-off should have been the $5 fee for registration. When was the last time you paid a government fee that was less than $45?)

But whatever. FITSNews chuckles at those silly South Carolinians with old legacy laws on the books and life goes on.

Unless you're an idiot named Daniel Tencer writing over at Lefty website The Raw Story and nutbar conspiracy theorist website Prison Planet who...shall we say, embellished a little bit:

Terrorists who want to overthrow the United States government must now register with South Carolina's Secretary of State and declare their intentions -- or face a $25,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison.
The state's "Subversive Activities Registration Act," passed last year and now officially on the books, states...

From there it went to Huffington Post and DKos and that's when it went viral. Now idiot Leftists all over the web are chortling about it and claiming it was recently passed by the "scared" South Carolina legislature. One tard then sent it to me, calling it South Carolina's "terrorist registration law."

Congratulations, Leftists. You are dumb.

4 this is very similar to the IRS asking criminals to declare income from illegal activities. It adds another layer of prosecution to pursue against terrorists or drug dealers. It needs to be remembered that Al Capone, for all the murder and mayhem he was behind, was sent to prison for tax evasion. If someone is arrested for terrorism and can also be jailed for failure to register as a terrorist, I see nothing wrong with it at all.

Someone posted this on the daily headline thread a few days ago. My response then was that it was an old law and has long since been rendered immaterial by SCOTUS.

At the time SC passed this law many other States passed similar laws. During the 50s the country actualy did want to get rid of the communists who infested the Democrat administration and State Department. Now the entire Democrat Party is communist in all but name.

Note that the SCOTUS case that killed these kinds of laws was in Ohio (Brandenburg v. Ohio - 1969). That case involved a KKK rally (yes outside of the South). The court ruled that mear inflamatory speech by itself was not sufficient to invoke police action. There must be either an overt act or an imminent threat.

So some idiots said it was a recent law. Well, there is a reason we call them idiots.

Actualy that SOB runs the Republican Party in SC. But something funny did happen and it has the The State (Columbia Dem PR Rag) whining in its soup this morning.

It seems that the front runner Dem challenger to Jim DeMint has dropped out of the race citing the typical "family" reasons. Has nothing to do with the fact that DeMint is widely popular here and Graham is a hated SOB by everybody but the Dems.

Bunds were pre-war organizations that on the surface appeared as benevolent German-American societies but in reality were fronts for the Nazis and were run out of Berlin. Obviously these organizations no longer have any relevance, but the fact that they were included in this law should have tipped off anyone willing to use his brain that this law was either passed or amended sometime during or shortly after WWII.

The moms who donate their time to be girl scout leaders, etc, no they are still the same moms who volunteer at church, and at school, and in so many other ways. Hell when I went into the Navy in 1970 they had two pages of these so-called subversive organizations that they wanted to know if you had been a member of or had ever supported materially.

This was the U.S. government in 1970 AFTER the court had struck down these laws.
