Like Pigfords At A Trough
— Ace

How, exactly, did a settlement originally thought to benefit a couple of thousand black farmers swell into a general $50,000-a-head handout to nearing a 100,000 people, most of whom weren't even farmers?

Well, one part you know -- instead of money being paid to black farmers, the settlement soon applied to... blacks who could allege they considered taking up farming but were dissuaded, supposedly, by rumors the USDA would deny them loans later should they get into financial difficulty.

So... Um, okay, any black person who can write down on a claim form that he once had an "intent to farm" is now eligible for free federal money.

What could go wrong?

We already paid just shy of one billion in damages for this nonsense and now Congress is supposed to authorize another $1.5 billion to, you know, make whole all those people who now say, "Oh yeah, I forgot, I wanted to buy a farm too but didn't because of racism."

(And gee! Who could have guessed there were so many until we started writing checks out to those who would claim they wanted passionately to farm!)

In related news, I'm black, and I have always felt a need for seed.

I don't need to do math when the government, a party to the settlement, has done the math and announced the math itself: "And now, as of February, the government has announced its plans to hand out at least $50,000 each to over 70,000 more claimants, over and above the original 16,000." Dope. You actin' superior?

22 OTOH, once every person so inclined (and if there were 100k already and more free money to follow, I suspect the takers won't all be black) to take free federal money for crushing their dreams of green thumbs, can we finally put the talk of reparations behind us?  I don't know if the few folks who push that ever put a dollar figure on what the slave's descendants were owed, but $50k seems like plenty to me.

Lynching is the illegitimate killing (usually by hanging, frequently accompanied by mutilation and/or burning) by a mob of a person or persons.

It was done to a lot of people over the years. Italians in Mississippi were singled out as often as Blacks in the 1890's, 1900's, and 1910's.

By whom, exactly?  Read up on that "promise".  Besides, how many people in the US can trace their wealth or prosperity to a bit of land owned by a descendant 7 generations ago?  If you want to go through the metaphysical justice game, you also have to dissipate this "benefit" throughout the later descendants.  What's left over wouldn't get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.  Well, maybe a "tall" house blend.

You can have a black person trapped inside a white body as easily as a woman trapped inside a man (or whatever idiotic story they use these days).

Remember that skit on MAD TV - "That's My Black Momma"?

Well that became my mother's nickname. An AA contractor who worked on her house was convinced she was Black. So who the heck is gonna argue?

(She's dead or I would get her to apply for these reparations. And she really did grow up on a farm.)

Posted by: kallisto at July 27, 2010 12:05 PM (+FkcS)

99 I may have white skin, but I've known I was black since I was 2yrs old.

I think my parents suspected. Certainly my father did, which is why he was always pushing me to do things like eat hummus on pita bread and pretend I like Jazz, like other white people do.

He also made me watch the Winter Olympics a lot. It wasn't until later that I figured out why.

When I was 14, I finally found the courage to tell them. They both cried a little, but understood when I told them that my inner blackness was not a choice.

My mom felt better when I told her I was more Hootie and the Blowfish black than 50 cent black.

Anyway, that's my story. Now gimme.

I'm sure that I'm going to get some flack for this one, but here goes anyway:

With as-of-yet-undetermined ulterior motives, and with his incendiary articles about black people lately, Ace is, in effect, handing out boxes of matches and gallons of gasoline to  people whom he considers to be potentially, would be arsonists, and then he has hissy fits and he bans people whom he considers to be arsonists without any real evidence that they are arsonists. That is bizarre.

Hey Ace, if you had ever played any sports with black guys and/or if you had ever served in the military with any black guys, you would realize that there are a lot of good, decent black people in this country who aren't any different than good, decent white people are.

So why don't you give it a rest, or focus on the contributions of the good, decent black people in this country, instead of always finding fault with black people? It gets tedious, monotonous and boring after a while.

BTW, have you noticed that there are some black Republicans running for Congress? How about some articles focusing on their backgrounds and on their positions on issues and on their viability as candidates?

133 you would realize that there are a lot of good, decent black people in this country who aren't any different than good, decent white people are.

Didn't see ace or anyone else say there weren't...

So it's OK for the Sherrods, Sharptons, Farrakhans, and Jesse Jacksons of the world to bilk taxpayers (which include those good, decent black people) out of billions of dollars through fraud and fomenting race-based hate, lest good, decent people...what, get their feelings hurt?

143  So...we shouldn't talk about this (and be angry about it), because it might harm good, decent Black people?  Along similar lines then we shouldn't talk about La Raza or illegal immgrants from south of the border because it would smear the good, decent Hispanic/Latinos -- of whom I know many -- and we shouldn't bring up old Sheets Byrd's favortie group of peeps because that would smear the good, decent white folks, right?

Yeah, talking about this could conceivably inflame people -- but I think I'd rather have somebody like Ace mentioning this, and having it discussed by the people here, than have the nut jobs at a place like Stormfront going on about this.

Yeah, I'll admit to a twinge of racist bigotry popping its ugly little snout up in my head when I read about this: I know some farmers that were denied loans and grants, and I can't help thinking that if this shit weren't going on, they might have gotten some help, or maybe if they were Black they would have had some recourse.  As some of these people were good and decent, it makes me mad.  HOWEVER, I didn't let that little twinge of bigotry take over -- because I do know that a lot of Black people are not like this, and that these fucking hustlers are just as bad for Black people as they are for anyone else (kinda like the scumbags in any group make it difficult for everybody, but especially the group they get identified with).  And I know, that as an American, it's time for me to think of my fellow Americans -- whatever their color -- and try and get these scumbags out of power once and for all, for the good of everybody -- and that project must needs be colorblind.

So no, we need to know about it; we need to be angry (but not stupid) and we need to stop this horseshit -- because it will wreck our country if it keeps up (which fear of addressing it for fear of scary, scary "racism" will most assuredly do).

"Hey Ace, if you had ever played any sports with black guys and/or if you had ever served in the military with any black guys, you would realize that there are a lot of good, decent black people in this country who aren't any different than good, decent white people are."

At least one.  Actually many.  But then there's also LeBron James, and Michael Vick, and ..... having scoured several golf courses, OJ is now searching inside a particular correctional facility ...... are you sure you want to use athletes as examples? Defend their character if you wish, and good luck.

But you evade the issue. The issue of this thread is Pigfors and closely-related issues.  If you can;t stand the discussion, why are you here?

"So why don't you give it a rest, or focus on the contributions of the good, decent black people in this country, instead of always finding fault with black people? It gets tedious, monotonous and boring after a while."

Are you truly unaware of the JournoList Fiasco, essentially a nationwide conspiracy of sorts to suppress / manipulate / mold the news by many members of the MSM, currently being publicized here and elsewhere?  If not for Ace and other bloggers, many events of national interest, like the Pigford payouts (apparently to more farmers than ecisted in the affected area) and Shirley Sherrod.

"BTW, have you noticed that there are some black Republicans running for Congress? How about some articles focusing on their backgrounds and on their positions on issues and on their viability as candidates?"

Do you truly not see that ignoring the Pigford, the Sherrods, the NBPPs, the Al Sharptons / Jesse Jacksons / J. Wrights / and similar poverty pimips / race- hustlers / parasites of the US political and cultural landscapes, you allow them to to be lumped in with the "good, decent black people in this country who aren't any different than good, decent white people are."

There's a difference, and it needs to be widely and highly publicized.  The MSM won't do it, and there's good evidence that they never will; they conspire, to at least some small degree, to suppress this reality.

All of your rebuttals were so lame that its difficult to assess which ones should be addressed. But I'll start with this one, and see where it leads, before I bother to address any of the others.

My point there was simple: When you find yourself in situations in which you have to rely on people to cover your back, and they have to rely on you to cover their backs, you develop a rapport with them that you won't develop with them in classrooms or in other environments, and you quickly find which of your teammates have character and which ones don't. That should suffice. Do you get my drift, or is this too heavy for you?

BTW, your examples of Michael Vick, O.J. Simpson, etc., were a stretch and they are irrelevant. (sigh)

In other words, you see that your original arguments failed, and you have no links or evidence.  Are you, by any chance, a journalist?

You evade my JournoList point, and for good reason. JournoList flushes any credibility the MSM, journalists and the Left have,as regards truth, transparency, fairness, accuracy, .....  perhaps this is too heavy for you.

"My point there was simple: When you find yourself in situations in which you have to rely on people to cover your back, and they have to rely on you to cover their backs, you develop a rapport with them that you won't develop with them in classrooms or in other environments, and you quickly find which of your teammates have character and which ones don't."

First, if this was indeed your original point, you should have posted it.  But it isn't what you posted.

Second, it seems that you don't see my point about LeBron James and Michael Vick: two athletes who are really in the game only for themselves.

Perhaps I was too oblique, but how? LeBron's raging ego has been the butt of many very recent and very public jokes (probably some here at Ace, if you bothered to do any research); an entire city has removed his ego from one of their buildings.  Could it be that they realize that L. bailed on them?

Please feel free to defend Vick's character, specifically his dogfighting sideline; it's not like he needed the money.  And given this hobby of his, would you trust him?  If so, why?
