The Chinese Military Shovel That Does Everything
It slices, it dices, it digs holes, it digs you out of holes, it cuts wire, it opens bottles, it's a grappling hook, and it also beats running dog white devils! And yes the US has a similar one except that ours folds in three and has an attractive camo carrying case.
I remember as a kid getting a hold of an old army surplus shovel and in the few weeks before it was taken away, my friends and I managed to do some serious damage to the backyard digging foxholes.
Greg Gutfeld: America, Mayor Bloomberg Hates You
In his view Americans are either trying to blow up Times Square or they're just looking for an excuse to lynch innocent muslims. Which makes you wonder what he really thinks of the average American. On the left it's a common conceit that most Americans are really just Neanderthal brutes who are but a wink and a codeword away from lynchin' and a raping. Except of course for progressives who have transcended the blinkered thinking of their fellow American dimwits. And like a lot of leftist beliefs it's really about feeling superior on the cheap.

World's Longest Sniper Kill - 2.47 km Twice!
British Corporal Craig Harrison killed two Taliban with consecutive shots at a distance of 1.53 miles (2.47 km) (8120 ft) in Helmand Province, Afghanistan last November (2009). He then fired a third shot and hit the Taliban's PKM machine gun. He was shooting a .338 L115A3. .338 Lapua has become the caliber of choice for many snipers due to its ballistic profile and its ability to penetrate body armor at 1 km.

The Average Woman Dates 24 Men Before Settling Down
And spends over $3000 on dating preparations. And according to the survey most women will only go on a date with a guy twice before deciding he's unworthy.
[warning - here be math]
This reminds me of marriage analysis that John Paulos did in Innumeracy where he noted that because we mostly date serially, it's not possible to know exactly when you've met the best possible spouse. In his analysis he defines a dating 'heartthrob' as a date that's better than any previous dates. So the fundamental dilemma of dating is that if you take one of the first couple of heartthrobs, you're likely missing out on other better possibilities - but pass by too many and you may never get another.
Using conditional probability and a little calculus he calculated that if you expect to meet N possible mates over your dating lifetime, the optimal strategy was to reject the first 37% of them and then accept the next heartthrob to come by. So assuming a women could expect meet an average of 3 potential mates each year from 18 to to 38, going through 24 men first before settling down doesn't seem too far off the optimal strategy.

It is like the 4th of July to them . They see their defeat of the Napoleon III's French Foreign Legion and the execution of Maximillian as throwing off the shackles of Europe. Unfortunatle the last 150 some years since then have been pretty much down hill.
Let's just say that they are extremely lucky to be south of america, in the same way canada is lucky to be north of america.

Yeah, that was when the had the battle of Camerone, which was a quasi-Alamoish battle (emphasis on quasi) in which a French company fought off a regiment or two of Mexicans, eventually losing all but the last two or three guys over the course of about a day, and the survivors were allowed to march out under arms. Well, the French would get credit, except that it was a company of Foreign Legion, not French regulars, so I'm not quite sure if they count as French (and yes, I know about the whole enlistment/French citizenship deal).

If you ever get bored, look up the battle of Bir el Hakim. Free French forces (primarily Legion) held off the Afrika Korps in a delaying action for 16 days (and basically put their dick on an anvil) to give Monty time to establish his lines for 1st Battle of El Alamein.

Rum, my oldest daughter is a wildlife biolisgt in Florida. They gave her a big ass Ford 4WD and an airboat. She gets to cruise around the everglades saving things, not sure what. The cool part is that they do controlled burns and she gets to fly around in a helicopter shooting ping pong balls of fire out of a cannon setting the everglades on fire. Heh, she should have joined the Marines.

Rum,
From the 4th grade until I went to college I was dead set on being a teacher, but once I was in college I didn't want to do that anymore and the only thing I knew I wanted to do with my future life was to be a Mama. Hell, I still haven't figured out what else I would want to do with my life. If I had the money and the space I would probably paint all day, but I have a feeling that would get boring after a while. At least I know my job as a Mama will never be boring

Rum, it's funny how we land in careers. I went off to college wanting to be a vet hoping I could have a life like those dudes I watched on wild kingdom as a kid.
Later decided I didn't want to do that. Switched to International Business since I liked to travel. Then to general liberal arts when I lost interest in that.
Then I dropped out for 4 years and worked as an auto parts counterman and developed an interest in computer systems when I tried to convice the parts store owner we should computerize our inventory system (it was pad and pen at the time).
Went back, got a degree in MIS and now I write code and configure systems for a living. I love it but loathe the administrative overhead (TPS reports are a mild joke compared to what I have to do).

My old unit (1st Bn 17th Infantry) was at Attu. But there was little talk about the unit's heritage when I served in the 80s, even though 1-17 had been re-formed in Alaska. Red Robin used to have a section on their alcohol menu with the phrase “because we care, two’s the limit” at the top of it. Well, we very quickly discovered in college that you could drink a bunch of other stuff and then also have two of the high octane drinks. Every once in a while my college friends and I will still say to each other “because we care, two’s the limit.” I remember that the suffering bastard was one of the drinks on that list.

I hear that all the time. My reply is, "You've got a tattoo on your ass. Do you spend a lot of time looking at your own ass?" I don't get it.
I don't mean to sound like a jackass about it -- it's your body, after all -- but what in God's name is so "creative" about drilling indelible ink into your skin? And wouldn't cosmetics serve the same purpose, and have the advantage of being washable when you get sick of the design?
Surely -- surely -- there must be better ways to "express yourself" than via tatouage. (And really, you're not expressing yourself. The tattoo artist is expressing himself...on your skin.)
I'll be honest, ever since seeing Down Parascope, I've always wondered if tatooing a johnson is even possible.

Shaeffer. When you want a beer real bad we have a real bad beer.
Once upon a time, on the Forrestal, we had a beer day. 2 beers per (those who didn't drink made a lot of money that day). Let me tell you, even crappy beer tastes like the nectar of the gods when you haven't had one in a long time.

I can clearly see all three of mine and all three are my own design.

When are women gonna realise that a tatoo breaks up a woman's natural curves? The tat is literally screaming "look at me!" drawing your attention from the rest of her. Plus the skin there is never as smooth as it was before, you can feel the tatoo. Sorry tatooed women, you've marred a work of art.
I have no tattoos but know and love many who do and I actually think a lot of tats are pretty and nifty. The problem is that they are permanent. Two times one should never get a tattoo: When you are under the influence of booze or friends.

Hey, kids.
Rum, since you have some law background, have you ever thought of being a court reporter? You can make big bucks, depending on where you live and how much you want to work. You usually have to do some kind of research (usually on the web), have great spelling and good punctuation skillz. The job is different every day and you have a different "boss" everyday, though you're your own boss when you get right down to it. Sometimes I used to sit in court or depositions and listen to stories like you wouldn't believe and then realize that I was getting paid for it.

WTR, up thread you said we'd never had widespread riots in the US.
I was in LA for the burning after the Rodney King verdict. That was pretty damn widespread. I remember sitting up on a knoll (or something like that) and looking out at a 270 degree view of LA and not being able to count the smoke plumes from all the various successful businesses being burned and raped by a bunch of worthless looters. And we coined the term "looters" back then. So y'all owe me $0.01 every time you use it. Profit!!!
I coined it in 1957 you douche.

Just make sure that the person being painted is not allergic to latex, which is in many body paints. It is NOT a pleasant experience to discover you are allergic to the stuff, especially if its a sensitive area, and I can guarantee that it will kill the mood.

Ted Turner owns the website, so why not? She's just a kid, who is raising her kid. I don't really get why she is being called a whore. Most people have sex in high school. I know people who scream things like that would happily have sex in high school.
I still don't get why anyone would hate the Palin children so much, or be so vulgar about it, like Sullivan's constant bullshit about the pregnancy. There is ample substantive stuff to debate. Bristol is showing compassion for someone who has been absolutely terrible to her family.
I don't even know why this surprises or pisses me off anymore. I know if someone said that about Malia Obama, it would not be tolerated. It wouldn't be laughed at.
This society has some serious problems, and I guess they all go back to public school's fundamental horseshit.

People feel that a good person is putting on airs & feels decidedly superior. They are also supposedly perfect. Some individuals feel trapped by this image & decide they need to do something racy to get attention. Ingrid Bergman & Audrey Hepburn did the same thing. (Though AH only played a part in a movie.)

Oh Rum it is already happening, the sister of one said that obviously her brother just got mixed up with the wrong crowd. And, the one they are still looking for (got the story wrong, only 3 caught so far) turns out he was hailed as a hero a few months ago when he rescued people from a burning home. And, we need to feel sorry for him anyway because he moved here after his home was destroyed in Katrina.
Yep, the victim cards are already being played quite effectively.

About an hour ago, I could have beat my dog to death.
I couldn't stand to look at her much less touch her in anything but rage and fury.
The thing is...
Early yesterday morning she stopped breathing... and then her heart stopped...and then everything kind of relaxed.
I kind of figured that we had crossed some sort of a line, and I was now the owner of a carcass that needed disposing of as opposed to a wonderful dawg.
I was wrong.
When I got on the phone to the vet's office she popped back up.
She has spent most of today in a pain free semi-comatose state.
Until, about an hour ago.
Now she's all full of beans and curious and wanting to explore the world and shit like she can see/ hear/ smell the way she used to 6 months ago.
I had to take her outside, where she wanted to be.
I can't explain the revulsion and anger I felt when I chained her up to the lamp-post.
I went right away to my next door neighbor and explained that "I'm gonna beat my Dog".
He lost an old dawg about a year ago. It was painful to watch.
We both agreed that my girl was looking more chipper than she has in months.
I got a hug and a supervised punch to a wall.
It's nice to have neighbors...
My zombie dog is just right now looking at me with a gleam in her eye, tongue hanging out and roguish grin on her face as if to say, "Hey! Wanna go down to the river and chase some rabbits?".
I would oblige her, but for the fact that as chipper as she is feeling just this moment she doesn't seem to have complete control of such things as her hind legs.
I dunno, I guess that I'll just pet her and push on her head (she loves that, don't know why, always has, always will).
But, mostly this sucks.
I STG my dog died in my arms this morning.
But she's not dead yet and there is no compelling reason that my vet and I can come up with to "put her down".
She's probably going to go in her sleep, like she almost did this morning.
The question is when.
OMG! Stupid jackass wants to play Tug -O-War? Now?
Okay...
I'm game.
This is killing me

Shouldn't I have been thrilled that not only is my baby alive but she also wants to play?
I wasn't thrilled.
I was confused and grieving and set to start sobbing.
I can't even begin to account for the anger I felt.
Sorry to put it so frankly, but for more than a few moments I hated my sweet puppeh.
Enough to even contemplate kicking her.
That's effed up.
Of course, I never did, and never would hurt my puppeh.
Recognizing that I was in the grip of some sort of powerful emotion I sought some contact from a neighbor.
Sorry to bug you all on the ONT with this as well but I'm a little bit freaked by my over-reaction and want to kind of talk myself down from the emotional wall.

For the first time in my life I got kicked out of class. 1st period stats was just ending when my teacher read an e-mail that a plane had just hit the WTC. I ran to my next class, Health, and turned on the TV. We watched as a second plane hit and eventually as the towers came down.
We were watching until class ended, talking and amazed.
I went to my 3rd period: Spanish.
My teacher turned off the TV, saying it didn't matter. It. Didn't. Matter. I was acing her class and we had a repour, so it shocked her that I argued with her that THIS WAS HISTORY HAPPENING, and that we needed to watch. I got angry (and I was a RESERVED kid, bigtime). I yelled at her until she kicked me out of the class. Not one minute later, an announcement came on the loudspeaker that said class should be canceled for the TV because this was HISTORY IN THE HAPPENING.
Hardy har har.
The world occurred to me since then and I was determined to learn. I had two history teachers, one a drunk democrat and one a former divorce attorney republican (which I didn't learn until later, when I realized how important he was to me and my education. He's the only teacher I ever got detention from). 2004 I was 18 and got to vote in my first election.
I went to a Bush rally.

Next class was Lit & Vocab, & I got to listen to the radio b/c I'd already finished the assignment. The teachers were trying to put rabbit ears on the TV so it would work properly. I remember seeing the 2nd plane hit, & all those other reports. Saw lots of carnage & other grisly things. All the radio reports were that 20planes were missing, & that no one knew where the president was.
We were too stunned to say much of anything the next little while, other than wondering if it was the end of the world. I remember we had a long prayer session at lunch, & everyone was crying, even the headmaster. Turned on the news as soon as I got home. Next day, we asked the Bible teacher if it was Armageddon or the end of the world, since he's an NT expert. He thought it might be, but he didn't know. Lots of uncertainty in those days, & lots of fear. So many things seen on TV that everyone now wants to forget. But Pres Bush's speeches made me a big fan, & I was happy to cast my 1st ballot for him in '04. Everything came down to the GWOT.

Yes, until I graduated HS in 2003. Afterward, went to a community college w/ a vet tech specialty from '03-'05, then private university from '05-'08.

“Harrison killed one machinegunner with his first attempt and felled the other with his next shot. He then let off a final round to knock the enemy weapon out of action”
Three shot and the last shot he purposely disable the enemy weapon. You know how far fetch this is? ItÂ’s like it came from a movie or TV show. Three shots, 100% hit ratio at over 2700 yards. ItÂ’s like saying you won the Mega Million lottery three times in a roll.
The greatest marksmen in the world could not done what he has done. Only a handful of people have ever made a kill beyond 2k yards and they did not do it on their first shot.

My youngest loves body art but is freaked out by needles and anything permanent. She constantly is drawing on herself and anybody sitting near her.

She didn't recently run into any alien robots, did
she?
She resides in Anime land. Pretty sure that included alien robots.

I'd make a deal with these people. They can run a mile to a wall and with me aiming at their backs with a rifle. If they make it over the wall before I hit them, they get their freedom.

I think I'm in love.... BTW, I recommend something in .338 Laupa. Nice flat trajectory and hell of a range too.

Plus, I carry a Leatherman in a belt pouch every day that will do everything that widget will do except function as a shovel, a climbing grapnel or a makeshift defensive shield - but with which I can quickly make any or all of those - and it will do a few other clever things as well. And, it weighs about a half-pound and won't rust (made of stainless steel).
Nice, catchy music, too - sounds like a U.S.Western movie theme from the '60s or '70s, maybe How The West Was Won, or several of the John Wayne epics...
