— Ace Yesterday, after I pointed out Yglesias' no-harm no-foul attitude towards the n-word, a few of his readers, having not commented upon the inappropriateness of the word all day, finally got angry about it... accusing conservatives of planting the slur on the site.
Odd that they didn't seem bothered by the word at all until the finally came up with a conspiracy theory by which to blame it on conservatives.
And they go on to prove their racial tolerance bona fides by reprinting the comment on our site. It's not been Tollbusted to something else, but yeah, originally it was a reprint of the Yglesias bon mot.
And how do I know it was an Yglesias reader? Well, I know it wasn't one of mine: a search for the unique hashmark used to differentiate all commenters' IPs demonstrates that the hash in question has never before appeared on the site. Since I haven't noticed the dispute being picked up by any other big sites, I'm wondering where else this new unwelcome commenter may have come from.
Stay classy, Matthew Yglesias and Matthew Yglesias' racist readers.
BTW: This from a post about Michael Steele, posted late yesterday even as one of his commenters had first-posted the n-word about Steele and it remained up all day long:
I mean, I love accusing conservatives of being motivated by racism...
Emphasis in original.
Oh, My: This Yglesias reader also posted this in the top headlines thread:
162 Michael Steele is a house nig! What's the difference between Sarah Palin's mouth and Sarah Palin's c**t? Retarded shit only came out of her c**t once.Posted by: Paulie Carbone at April 01, 2010 10:51 AM (KK69A)
I redacted the c-word. Paulie Carbone didn't.
Since he left his handle on that one, I can now confirm he's a regular Yglesias reader (scan down for "Paulie Carbone").
Remember: Matthew Yglesias loves (his italics) accusing conservatives of being motivated by racism.
Hat tip to Y-Not for putting me some information.

No concept of a more objective standard of racisim that might apply equally to him. There seems to be no awareness the he might be capable of racism.

Considering that "Paulie"s hash was attached to the "n-bomb" in the (dead) thread preceding the comment you reference I think this was part of a "time trap" setup. I.E. drop an insulting Palin comment in a live thread and an n-bomb in an inactive thread- if a significant time elapses between cleaning up the Palin comment and cleaning up the n-bomb use that as "evidence" of racism.

I guess if the word is so over the top offensive then maybe we should all just stop using it all together. If not then maybe we should take a good hard look at ourselves and realize that this double standard thing is utterly ridiculous.
A word shouldn't have one meaning or connotation if used by a person of one skin color, and a completely different meaning or connotation if used by a person of a different skin color.
That in and of itself is perhaps the most blatant form of racism there is and just strikes me as being utterly ridiculous. Ok, now for the record and before somebody completely misunderstands my point, I don't think one should use such a word at all regardless of context or skin tone.
I think that showing such disrespect for anyone's basic humanity simply has no place in a rational society. But I guess I just find it hypocritical that so many of those who decry it's use use it so often themselves.

And every day as I drove this fucking stoner loser to the train station he would comment on how stupid the s***cs & n******s were; I never let him know that my wife was spanish until the day she came to visit the office and proceded speaking spanish to the other ladies in the office...the look on his face was priceless, I gave him the Italian death stare as he looked at me for my reaction. I've always been fascinated with the American culture and civic life of the years just before the Civil War. It was a very religious and often intensely sentimental age, when a boy of twenty might never have ventured more than twenty miles from his homestead before he was called off to war. Yet it was also an age of elegance and culture, where young ladies were expected to learn music and "domestic arts" and the young men to master a trade or professional skill. The letters from that time, even from relatively unschooled citizens, show a surprising depth of subtlety and meaning.
Letters from soldiers during the Civil War are surprising. Even such a grim man of war as Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson could write tenderly to his wife, calling her his "little dove", and he would have a man horsewhipped if he caught the man using foul language in front of a woman. Robert E. Lee never referred to Union soldiers as "the enemy", but rather as "those people". Even in war, when shedding blood in amounts that ran in rivers, they were not vulgar. Even such a legendary swearer as W. T. Sherman took pains to moderate his language in front of ladies and other civilians.
Now we move to the current day, when vulgarity even in our highest elected officials ("This is a big fucking deal!") barely raises an eyebrow. And yet in many aspects of our lives -- civic and social -- we are far more cowardly and weak than our forebears were. I am a vulgar man at times myself, but I always recognize that whatever value it has is reduced by too-frequent usage. And I'm still old-school enough to be ashamed of myself if overheard by family or friends.
Moving from polite civic-minded warriors to foul-mouthed cowards doesn't really seem like a step forward to me.
I've often felt that if black people dislike the epithet, then they should stop using it when referring to each other. A word is a word; if the word is wrong, then it's wrong no matter whose mouth utters it. If it is beyond the pale, then it must be beyond the pale for everyone.

Never met a man who wasn't.
There is a lot of unintentional hilarity to be had over at the NRO's "pr0n is teh EVAL!!eleventy!" article. Predictably, it was written by a woman who is objects to porn mainly on the grounds that it is bad for the wives. It never seems to occur to these women that men do not exist solely to make sure they are kept happy. (One also suspects that the woman's husband, smut-hound that he is, may have had reasons other than "porn addiction" to flee his wife's embrace.)
I just wish NRO would publish hubby's rebuttal. That would be some comedy gold right there. ("In my defense, she gained five thousand pounds and smells rather like the inside of a soup-can.")

Megyn Kelly just had that twit Colmes on screaming about how tea partiers are racist and how opposition to the America-hating Precedent is racist. Colmes is just a fool who couldn't argue his way out of a wet paper bag, but Megyn is starting to tick me off (a bit) with how much crap she lets fly through.
Colmes claims that people who doubt The Precedent's American birth are racist (though the eligibility issue has more to do with The Precedent's own admission that he held dual citizenship - and likely more than two) and that "no white President was ever accused of not being born in America" [paraphrased]. Megyn needs to do a little homework to find out about Chester Arthur and the accusations against him (which were incorrect, but well-founded and only slightly off).
Then Colmes go in on the "they accuse him of being a muslim" [paraphrased from memory, again] and Megyn doesn't know that the Indonesian Imbecile was born to a muslim father, had a muslim step father, grew up in a muslim country, went to school registered as a muslim, and has surrounded himself with tons of muslims.
I like Megyn, but she needs to get her mind around some of the simple and basic information that everyone should know by now. It pains me to see these idiots like Colmes allowed to make ridiculous claims without any pushback, when the facts are all too easy to find and slam back in his retarded face.
I also love the old "no other President" ... when no other President ever admitted to having been a dual citizen - except that Chester Arthur hid the details of his birth to a British citizen father because he thought that made him ineligible (which it did).
And Colmes was distressed that the socialist Precedent is being called a socialist ... while Megyn had not a word to say about Newsweak saying "We're all socialists, now" right after the election - let alone all of the marxists, maoists and generally insane self-proclaimed socialists who infest the White House - not to mention the crypto-Christian marxist church that the Indonesian Imbecile attended for a couple of decades.
How can we be so far into this steaming pile of shit and there are still so many who don't know the basics of what is going on? Megyn usually does a decent job, but she really blew this one. It is sad.

Tell that to the stick blender. Note to self remember to unplug attachment from motor before cleaning gunk out.
Dude. You disassemble the blender before putting body parts near it.
It's like cleaning a gun -- you don't let ammunition in the same room while you're doing it.

Yglesias is an Adolf Soros minion - I believe he's a fellow at the Center for American Progress. Ya know, another one of those mis-named Soros' front groups ( like Klansman for Racial Harmony or Babies for Abortions)

I think Yglesias and his commetors highlight something people generally neglect to point out, the hatefulness of some on the left.
And that's my big thought for the afternoon.

"Liberals are too funny. I just wish someone would get them back in their sandboxes, where these children belong"
Can't.
The cat keeps trying to cover them up.

"Stolen from Gatway Pundit:
Charlie Rangel (D-NY) told reporters at NY1 that the tea party patriots were just like the groups that attacked blacks during the civil rights movement."
They're Democrats?
Who knew.
