Maybe-Nomentum: Wisconsin Democrat Says Break The Health Care Bill Up
— DrewM

Democratic Congressman Steve Kagen (he's also an MD) voted yes on Pelosi-Reid-Obama Care in November, now it sounds like he's having second thoughts.

"Let me put it this way: you're asking whether or not I trust the United States Senate, where they came up with a deal for Nebraska that the other states didn't get; where Louisiana would get a special deal. No, I don't trust the U.S. Senate," said Rep. Steve Kagen (D-8th District). "So I think I'd like to have a vote on something very meaningful."

Kagen said the health care bill should be split up into smaller bills.

"I have made the case to the speaker and also to the White House that we should take small pieces, small bites," Kagen said. "In the practice of medicine, I can't give a child a big pill. What do we do? We cut it up into pieces. Let's find things we can agree on."

It's not a Yes-No yet but it's clearly not a given that Pelosi still has all the yes votes she had last time, even without Stupak doing his abortion compromise dance. House members know the chances of 'fixing' the Senate bill are pretty much zero. They are going to have to decide if they can live with it as is and defend it back home, Cornhusker Kickback and all.

This is the LAST thing we want to happen.

What's best for us and our country is for the Democrats to ram this through, the whole kit-n-kaboodle.

If they split it up, the Left will get more govt control and socialism faster than they ever dreamed.

House members:  Vote for the bill, you will lose your job.

Meanwhile - via the corner:
A new Rasmussen (oh noez - Hitler!) phone survey reports that just 25 percent of Americans believe Obamacare will help the U.S. economy, while 57 percent believe it will hurt it. Fully 78 percent of those surveyed believe that taxes on the middle class will have to be raised eventually to pay for the bill, and 66 percent believe that the plan will increase the federal deficit. Just 10 percent believe it will reduce deficit.

This concern is due in part to a lack of trust in the scoring process:

Eighty-one percent (81%) believe it is at least somewhat likely that the health care reform plan will cost more than official estimates. That number includes 66% who say it is very likely that the official projections understate the true cost of the plan.

Just 10% have confidence in the official estimates and say the actual costs are unlikely to be higher.

54 percent of respondents believe passage of Obamacare will lead to higher health care costs.

Sorry, but negatory on the first part. Control of the congress is more important than the Oval Office. 1995-2000 were actually pretty good times. A feckless Commiecrat kept in check by a GOP congresss is better than a reckless Commiecrat congress stalling a GOP president.

The nomentum is still there.  Politico is reporting that there really hasn't been any negotiation on his end with Stupak.  Hoyer is also indicating that there is probably no way the vote can be taken by the 18th.  The article is entitled "Hoyer rebuffs Gibbs on Deadline".

I have been corresponding with Jay Cost of RealClearPolitics on this issue, and I mentioned to him the National Journal article concerning the article's statement that Stupak has discussed eight pieces of legislation that he has submitted to Waxman, and they are all based on the Hyde Amendment.  This is how Mr. Cost responded:

"This article is a good sign for abortion opponents.  Those 8 pieces are what he was talking up last week.  All of them are the Hyde language.  ThatÂ’s what he wants.  I take this as a sign that heÂ’s less likely to cave." He then links the Stephanopoulos interview with Stupak and Sebelius in which Stupak SAID THE SAME EXACT THING ABOUT EIGHT PIECES OF LEGISLATION.  There has been no movement on this at all, and Stupak has not even had a formal negotiation with Hoyer on the issue.  It sounds to me like Stupak was giving the standard boilerplate response as No votes who indicate they want to look at the language before they vote, a response which is then breathlessly trumpeted by the AP to mean the person is leaning toward a switch.  The AP article about the supposed "9 undecided Dems" is the perfect example.  AP is trying to shape the narrative rather than just report it.

We NEED the Democrats to ram this through so we'll win in November.

I know some of you chowderheads can wrap your little heads around this, but trust me, I'm right.

Disagree.  Regardless of whether this shit pile is passed as is, or if it's broken down into smaller bills, the Dems are OUT.  O-U-T out in November.  It is my firm belief that the majority of the public is so pissed off at the leftists in D.C., that they are going to get the boot hard for the danger they can potentially (and from all intentions are trying to do every waking moment) do to this country.  Straight to the curb.

79 Intrade closed at 60% chance of passing ObamaCare up 10% from Ace's post

80 Posted by: Rick Warren at March 09, 2010 03:08 PM (mhD2v) -------------------------------------------------- The Intrade folks apparently are saying that this activity is coming from DC - which could mean that it's Axelturfing to make it look like passage is inevitable or some insiders know that the jig is up and passage is only a matter of time. Inevitability is Obama's best friend as it says to wavering Dems, might as well vote with us since this is going to pass anyway.

#48:

The new term of Congress starts next January after the November elections.  If a bill is not passed before the term ends, it is dead and must be re-introduced to the next Congress.  So the Democrats have until January to pass this - and really much shorter as elections are coming up.

As the dust settles, Nanzi doesn't have the votes.  The Dims still have a long way to go to pull this off.

Don't forget!  The House doesn't trust the Senate, and there's much in the Senate bill, many in the House can't stomach.

Different Tea Party groups will start descending on their Congresscritter's office beginning Mar 3 and this will continue up to the spring break.  Face-to-face is more effective than faxes, emails, letters, or calling.

Courage.
