Can anyone tell me WTF is going on in Colorado?
The Maes-Tancredo reversal comes in the wake of revelations that Maes didnÂ’t actually serve as an undercover cop in Kansas in the 1980s, as he had claimed on his website. The news, first reported in a Denver Post story, eventually prompted the paperÂ’s editorial board to call on Maes to drop out of the race.
Tancredo quotes the paper in a hard-hitting ad out Tuesday featuring 83-year-old Freda Poundstone, a longtime Colorado political presence who in August claimed she gave Maes $300 in cash to help him pay his mortgage. Maes insists it was a campaign contribution.
Poundstone, billed in the ad as a former Maes supporter, sits in her living room and excoriates Maes for lying to her.
“Dan Maes not only conned me out of my money, he lied to me about his background, and he deceived my friends and myself about his conservative principles,” she says in the ad. “I’ve had so many people call me and ask, ‘What kind of a man would do that to an 83-year-old lady?’ and I don’t want that to happen to the voters of this state.”

I understand those who had sincere reservations about Christine O'Donnell. But THIS is why she won.
Immigration, and the unwillingness of a good many Republicans to face it, is the simmering issue today.
Either McLame thinks he can have it both ways, is a cheap labor greedhead, or a Hispandering romantic fool, but it does not matter. The rank and file are pissed.
A good many Joe Lunchbucket Democrats would cross over and vote Republican if they would just address THIS issue.

Wait. She gave him a non-campaign contribution and claimed he fooled her? Why was she giving him $300 to help with his mortgage? If you give money to a politician, you should assume that it's a campaign contribution.
This sounds like a set-up. At best it's the weakest of weak tea.

I gave the default minimum of $35 via her website. If nobody gave more than that, she'd still need fewer than 15,000 donors to hit $500K. That's not inconceivable -- it's not even all that surprising for a candidate who's the lead news story in a nation of 300 million.
Posted by: stuiec at September 15, 2010 11:52 AM (fgCQL)
It's not just the amnesty part either... This one brings my piss to a boil because people who *aren't legal citizens* will be getting in-state tuition rates their entire time in college while a lot of really good students who want to go to a school in another state will likely be stuck with fees of thousands of dollars per semester to do so.
I take that personally because I went to a school outside of Louisiana and had to bust my ass on the ACT to qualify for a waiver from the school for those fees and had to continue to bust my ass each semester in order to keep it. That ended up being a scholarship worth about $20K by the time I was done and, in the years since, the school's out-of-state rates have gone up to the point where it would be worth around $40K now.
When anyone asks why I was so dead-set on supporting a loser in Hayworth over McCain, shit like this is a good reason why.

McCain laid out the problems with it while saying he's open minded about it.
Guess what, I am open minded about it as well. If a kid serves in our military fighting with us I think he should get citizenship. You can call me a RINO after you serve.
We import college graduates all of the time already under the H1 B visa. If the kids worked hard enough to get their degree then let's move them to the front of the fucking line over people without one.

The uncrowned queen of the Tea Party, Mrs Palin has placed her sword on the shoulders of 33 candidates involved in primary battles over the past few months; 21 have risen to claim victory, often against heavy initial odds.
Many of those Mrs Palin has endorsed were either novices or obscure state politicians, like Miss O'Donnell, who were struggling until the Palin seal of approval was offered.
More than half were women, in keeping with the former Alaska governor's declaration that Republican "Mama Grizzlies" would rise up and protect their children from Barack Obama's heavy-spending agenda, just as a female bear protects her cubs.
They tended to reflect Mrs Palin's image: women who had balanced a career in local politics with having children, weren't afraid to speak their mind and were unbending on certain issues: the wrongs of abortion, the rights of gun ownership and the dangers of heavy federal spending.

The question I have is how he believes he is helping himself politically by appearing before a crowd of undocumented illegal trespassers of our border. The woman crying that she will be deported is a nice touch too. I wonder how many of her fellow Mexican natives are obeying our laws and waiting in line for citizenship while she goes ahead and breaks our laws to get in, then uses money that would otherwise have been available for a non-criminal to get an education here.
I wonder how many of these people have found ways to vote.

Are the schools using his class ranking in determining his eligibility? Or are his classes not translating well into their calculations?
I couldn't use class ranking because the school had intentionally stopped reporting it for everyone outside of the valedictorian and salutatorian. It wasn't a touchy-feely thing as much as a "When you have a class of 95 kids, 20 of which are some level of National Merit scholar, being 6th in the class can keep you out of an Ivy League school" thing because you finish outside the top 5%.
The school I went to used a sliding scale of GPA and test scores, preferably ACT over SAT, to determine eligibility. If his test scores are good enough and his overall GPA from all institutions is determined to be high enough, he may still qualify.

It can take years to go through the full process to gain one's citizenship- visa to come over in the first place, permanent resident status, classes, red-tape, etc. All this would require is two years in, say, the Coast Guard (as my Army brother once joked: half the work, all the pay) or two years in college. Past versions of the act which were voted down contained language granting in-state tuition to illegals, which I ran down earlier in the thread. The current website for the DREAM Act *claims* that this particular language isn't in the new version of it, but a late-night voting session and/or reconciliation conference between the House and Senate will likely be used to slip it in if they see the opportunity.

DREAM says essentially "successfully break our laws for 5 years without getting caught and we'll not deport you."
Pretty straight forward back door.
McCain is now asking these people to continue lobbying so that the obvious 2nd step to this amnesty can be passed: by giving citizenship to the same people who jumped the line to illegally enter.
I genuinely feel sorry for those that are honorable enough to actually attempt to gain citizenship the legal way. Thanks to fucks like McCain and the dems, they are essentially shat upon for being stupid enough to not enter the country illegally.
Oh, and what's with the fucking word 'undocumented.' They broke the fucking law. That means they are ILLEGAL, fucking assmunch reporters.

Sort of makes me feel better about O'Donnell winning last night, I have to say.
I expect Ayotte will be Goin' Maverick on us within 24-hours after Ovide concedes the primary (and almost certainly without a recount).

It says a lot about the Castle supporters like Karl Rove and a lot of people at the NRSC to completely run down O'Donnell *just as she's making her acceptance speech* that night.
Most of the "O'Donnellistas", as you refer to them, are effectively putting out brushfires caused by the Republican establishment having a collective hissy fit.

What's your current home state?
Given your financial situation and your son's less-traditional academic background, I think he should really stay in state at either a community college of the state school and then transfer after a year or two.
What's his likely major?

Yes, and I think this is necessary. Saddle the correct party when economic ruin occurs as a result of leftist policies. When you have a republican majority and this shit happens, people are going to vote democrat to get away from it. Having squishy moderates representing when government expands is exactly what leads to someone as crazy-left as Barrack Obama becoming president!!!
Did you not notice why McCain lost that bid? He's a fucking moderate!

For anyone who is interested, the DREAM act does not reward college graduates - all you have to accomplish is 2 years of college before you can qualify for the DREAM act "path to citizenship".
So, get your free HS education, then go to community college (course load NOT specified, you can go two years and take one course a year, if you want), wait another 3 1/2 years, and BINGO! - you are a citizen.

My point is that the Castle supporters and the establishment Republicans flipping the fuck out like many of them did last night are doing EXACTLY what they claimed the O'Donnell supporters would do if she'd lost. She won, Castle lost, and there's still an election in November. Take your Vagisil and pull behind the candidate like you expected everyone else to do if Castle won.

That is the extent of my 'unity' in AZ. Hopefully McCain won't piss off enough conservatives to turn an almost certain win against into a loss as he did with the presidency by being such a pliant non-leader in the debates and in his policy. With news like this of him addressing illegals coming out, it's going to have the same effect it did in the presidential bid; people are going to not show up to the polls or write in Hayworth because it turns them off.
If I were a Delawarian, I would be knocking on doors for O'Donnell. I'll prolly send some lunch money just because I believe it is important for her to get the word out to have a chance.

Be VERY wary about RPI (Renslaesser), as it's in the middle of nowhere, has an overwhelming male population, is severely overpriced per the people I know who went there, and some of the worst "student happiness" ratings out of any university.
More than a few people I know who transferred out ended up out of school for a long time because they couldn't afford to pay up what they owed RPI to get their transcripts released.
It's supposed to be a great engineering school, but it has a lot of flaws that need to be carefully weighed before accepting enrollment there.

I would have been willing to do that in the pimary, but purposely voting for a lib who really is far left is outside the realm of possibility. At worst I'd sit out the election, but then I would become part of the problem and reason that Obambi is in office.
I absolutely think it was good O'Donnell won. But if I were in Delaware and Castle won, he'd still get my vote in the end more than likely.
Posted by: Obviously at September 15, 2010 01:04 PM (xm1A1)
Am late piling on so I'll give it extra umph. Twice, I held my nose to vote for this guy in 2008 as "they" had already decided he was the nominee by the time Texas had its primary. Back then, I had to tolerate his "my friends" bull. Now, FU McCain, and your fat stupid daughter, too. Get off the damn stage, go away you worthless RINO waste of skin. I've scraped better stuff than your political value off the bottom of my shoes.

But you know what? In the end, you guys are right about one thing: Chrissy O. IS, as of last night, the nominee. The pre-primary flamewars are moot; I can sockpuppet her all day long and it will no longer accomplish anything (if it ever did in the first place); and I don't want to see Chris Coons win no matter how much of a fraud I think O'Donnell is.
So since I don't have anything nice to say about her and can't support her, I'll just STFU about her from now on. Now in return, how 'bout those of you who wanted Castle's scalp act like the primary winners you are and start running against Coons instead? 'Cause some of you are still running against him a day later; indeed, I am hearing some truly graceless statements from O'Donnell herself today, and that sure isn't going to foster this party unity we're suddenly supposed to have, and that, quite frankly, we need. An ongoing campaign of purging your own pieces from the board is not a winning strategy.
And that's it. This is my last O'Donnell post.
