Well, something else that makes me laugh is hunting accidents.
Some dummy in Australia shot to death a woman camping in the woods as she was brushing her teeth.

A young woman on a camping holiday has been shot in the head and killed while brushing her teeth by a hunter who thought she was an animal.

What is spotlighting? The story mentions it but I can't figure if she and her campers were 'spotlighting' or the stupid hunter was spotlighting.
Spotlighting is when you go out (usually in your car) and "spot" for deer in the woods and fields by the roads using a high-powered spotlight. IIRC, it still isn't illegal to do this during the off-season. My family used to drive around our area and look for deer at night with a spotlight. It was really cool to do when I was a kid.

Some years back there was a hunter here what got kilt during the black powder season in an award worthy manner. Read some of their tour contracts on Smoking Gun. It's astonishing what they require. Fiddy Cent requires a box of condoms in his dressing room... Clarence Clemons requires a tin of Beluga caviar. Certain people demand specific furniture, others the species of flowers that MUST be in their dressing rooms. The music of youthful rebellion, indeed.

I'm sure all of us here know death very well. We've all lost people close to us, some way before their time.
None of us, including me, make light of losing someone. But life goes on and to pass the time we make jokes -- we make jokes because the alternative is to live in fear -- fear of death.
Not me.
As mentioned above, death can arrive at any moment, even in the oddest circumstances. We know that. That's why we joke. We joke because we are alive and we still can.

This year, he put out his brag letter (after his third wife left him) about his prowess on his motorcycle, and tossing out how Afghanistan is "unwinable" ..... etc., etc., knowing our son will read that at his duty station in Japan.
My husband and I both let him know how distressed (putting it mildly) we were, and he kind of apologized. But my husband's younger sister, the socialist Life Coach, told us she thought his comment was "fun" and "interesting". Kill me now. I hate my in-laws.

Jane D, we all have some despicable in-laws who would be well served by a good ass-whoopin', preferably right before Thanksgiving dinner, so they could explain why they're bleeding on Grandma's good tablecloth.
And sTevo, those old Echoplexes fetch a princely sum these days, if you can find one that still works.

I did a satirical holiday letter one year, to selected friends and relatives:
Ombudsman was just paroled after serving 6 years on sex charges. He'll have to wear an ankle bracelet for six months.... Mrs. Ombudsman's career is looking up, hiring her twentieth girl at the brothel....Ombudsman junior has finished his rehab and is now in a halfway house....Ombudsman-ette has started her gender reassignment surgery...
People who got it were amused. Others who didn't....
Posted by: Ombudsman at December 03, 2010 04:44 PM (c1oyg)
Ms D'oh, my sympathies. Starters, I've felt for 50 long hard ones that those holiday hectographs are a psychiatric symptom. Just, in general.
There is a Western, Christian-culture version of karma. It's called "patience."
Who knows, Afghanistan may be "unwinable." Hell, there's no wine there now.
But, I guarantee, boasting of one's motorcycle prowess is not survivable. Not in the long run. You will definitely get the opportunity to piss right down his neck. Not in a sinful or prideful way, now, but just concentrate on how that will feel.

Kill me now. I hate my in-laws.
Tell them to go fuck themselves and be done with them. I finally did that to a few people after repeatedly defending my brother and his wife for serving and for myself for voluteering with the USO and gettting snarky comments about it. It felt really good and and I didn't have to deal with their bullshit anymore. I highly recommend it. :-)

I hate how these mainly non-religious people use Christmas to brag and blow about how fabulous they and their lives are. Several years ago, when my husband traveled extensively, and had frequent flyer miles, the bastards didn't hesitate to ask for free airline tickets, which he gave them. Now the two thrice-married sisters have finally nailed their dream Wallets. Every single Christmas is another opportunity to brag about their travels, purchases, etc.

Pretty much every single one I've ever met...and their wives? Lefties too, and they aren't the nice kind, they are the nasty bitchy fucker kind.""
What type of music do you play? It really seems to matter. I'm a lifelong metal guitar player, and a vast majority of the dudes I ever jammed with were to the right of Gengis khan. On the other side of the coin I also dabble in classical guitar, and THOSE people are out of their fucking minds.

Where the fuck is the ONT? In keeping with the Meat Loaf theme, I Want My Money Back!
Shit, scared the cats with that one. Not a huge accomplishment, btw.

Thanks to the EPA and modern engineering, your Eos would run out of gas before you even started getting a headache.
By the time you wrenched off the catalyst and defeated the rest of its emission controls, you'd be too tired to crawl into the car and start it.
Which is good for the rest of us.

It's going good, thanks for asking. Yours?

Meh, they're workin' me like a rented mule over at the law factory. Gotta go in for a couple of hours tomorrow. Still old. My Christmas lights are pretty, though, and I have lots of beer.

So whoever posts #441 gets to wheeze, "Fuhhhrsssrst!" which as everyone knows is Zombese for "First!"

The Obama Administration intervened with the Spanish government to block the indictment of 6 former Bush officials on charges of setting the legal framework for torture, against international law and covenants.
They are now trying to intervene with the Nigerian government to prevent the indictment of Dick Cheney, as former head of KBR, on bribery charges. Interpol has a red list on Cheney, making him subject to arrest if he leaves the US, but our government, which has had an extradition treaty with Nigeria since 1931, wants to block extradition.
It's over at Kos and they're swearing to primary him, become hermits, move to Canada, etc.Posted by: arhooley, conflicted Californian at December 03, 2010 06:31 PM (/kjx2)

Suspecting it will be grabbed by the throat, clubbed and skinned is a good reason to run away.
I like the story about the beavers in LA who found a million cash from a video poker parlor heist stashed in the woods and built a dam with it.

Yes, and I guess divorce can be, too. Did she coach him through all three failed marriages? What a fucking loser. He can't manage basic human relationships like matrimony and extended family, yet he sees fit to laugh about people putting their lives on the line -- family, no less -- for a cause greater than themselves. Tell him you hope next year he has something better to "brag" about other than being a colossal dickwad yet again.

D'oh told his ol' mom, yeah, he's a trained killer. And he'd gladly give his life to save you.
Jane, if you're still around, these in laws sound like having one of those diseases you see on House would be more fun than spending time with them. Gotta say though, Mr. D'oh came up with the perfect comment to her idiotic and insensitive comment. And, as Maureen Dowd or some dingbat like that said, with absolute moral authority to boot.
