Tried to leave this on the last thread - My family and I have worked with The Yellow Ribbon Fund and Homes For Our Troops – really great organizations. I volunteered at a Homes For Our Troops Build Brigade – it was incredible. They build specially modified homes for severely wounded troops. Everything is donated – land, materials, labor. It was just incredible experience

I am really starting to think, despite my revulsion, that we are headed for serious conflict. This is not just an attempt to minimize; if that were the case, we would see only mere sneering and mocking. Instead, the grave faces and serious accusations from the media seem to me to be preemptive justification.
For what, do you suppose?

They don't have any rules; that's the point.
What we need to do is ignore the Democrats/MSM and bring our case directly to the American people.
Town hall meetings. Town hall meetings. Town hall meetings. Town hall meetings.
The Republicans are sitting on their asses just like they've being doing since 2005 and letting the Democrats/MSM define them/us and write the narrative.
It's time to be pro-active or else the Democrats will win the PR war.

They don't have any rules; that's the point.
Their rule is by any means necessary. The GOP needs to stop playing nice and strike back just as hard as the Left does (and I don't mean by using violence). It'll take spine to do it. And yeah, they'll have to "lower themselves" but if they want to defeat the enemy, they have to do it. And that is what the Left is, they are the Enemy. They declared war on us a long time ago. It's time we took that seriously and fought back.

This nonsense is NOT WORKING.
I had one of my good friends - a very APOLITICAL guy - call me out of nowhere to tell me that he couldn't take it anymore.
He went off about how he wanted to smash his TV to bits after watching CNN guests and anchors repeatedly refer to "Right Wing Christian Militias."
My friend is strongly religious, and he was infuriated by the media's attempt to paint Christians as on par with Muslim terrorists.
There is still a "silent majority" out there. They are just waking up and many of them aren't willing to be "silent" anymore.

“The first really unhappy people will be the 19 million students who, after July 1, will have no choice but to go to federal call centers to get their student loans. They’ll become even unhappier when they find out that the government is charging 2.8 percent to borrow the money and 6.8 percent to lend it to the students, and spending the difference on the new health-care bill and other programs.... Up to now, 15 out of 19 million student loans were private loans, backed by the government, now we’re going to borrow half-a-trillion from China to pay for billions in new loans. Not only will this add to the debt, but in the middle of a recession, this will throw 31,000 Americans working at community banks and non-profit lenders out of work.”

Write. Write often. Encourage friends and family to get involved. Keep it civil. Just the facts.

Nothing is as freeing as your boobies open to the sun, while you listen to some cool tunes. However, it's important that you have a t-shirt nearby to throw on just in case.
AND sunscreen - particulary if you are on the beach in Corfu, Greece...

If someone takes away your money, your children's money, and your basic rights, calls you the worst of names, and tries to get your country to lose a war to advance their own narrow agenda, that's ok. If you get mad about it, well, that is beyond the pale. And if you say something nasty back, well, you sir are a hillbilly racist who has sex with your sister!
Liberals not only excuse hypocrisy, they reveille in it.

Start a campaign against each and every sponsor of the new networks, every pundit show, and tell them that you will no longer purchase the the product when they support such anti-American rhetoric.

It's the 'no true Scotsman' fallacy, and I think it explains the difference between the left and the right when reacting to this sort of thing. When someone on the right misbehaves, he is denounced by conservatives; when someone on the left misbehaves, the progressives throw up their hands and say, "Hey, don't try to pin that on us!"

He's a bit over-the-top at times, but I really like the dead white Roman writer Sallust sometimes:
"But what manner of men are they who have made themselves rulers of the state?[...]Covetous beyond measure and stained with guilt, they are non the less swollen with pride, and there is nothing that they will not sell: honour, reputation, natural affection, every virtue indeed-- as well as every vice-- is to them a source of profit.[...] Sharing as they all do the same desires, hatreds, and fears, they stick closely together; if they were honest men, you could call it friendship, but they are just a gang of criminals. If your love of liberty were as ardent as their craving for power, our country would surely not be violated as she now is, and your electoral favors would be bestowed on the most deserving citizens, instead of the most shameless."

Because the MSM is as culpable for the current tone in our political culture as almost any other single factor. Why? Because conservatives KNOW we can't and never will get a fair shake from these people. We KNOW that they are going to use the most blatant, in-your-face double standards, that they are, by their selection of stories and their support for the narrative that the President wants to advance, they are taking sides. And that's infuriating, especially when they stand there and feign objectivity. Sometimes anger is the only sane reaction.
If we had a media (outside of Fox News and talk radio) that was honestly interested in presenting both sides of the issue and insisting on substantive debate and not ridiculous and transparent distractions, I think the tone would be quite different.

I think this says a lot about just how desperate they are. They cannot find anything real to criticise, anything genuine to find fault with, and so they invent things, all in a white-knuckle effort to convince the public that we are not to be listened to, not to be taken seriously.
It's going to fail.

Once again I remember why Rome went down the drain and why the rest of the world laughs at this country.
You remember? Then spell it out, fuckstick; chapter and verse from Gibbon or whatever source you're so well-informed about. You're as dumb about that as you are about John Lewis lying out his ass about whatever he was called; probably a fucking simpleton which is spot on. And keep on banging the drum about deficits with Ear Leader sending them into completely uncharted teriritory, genius. Go look in the mirror to find out what everybody laughs at.

John Lewis? Isn't he the Congressman who once stated that there are areas of the Atlantic Ocean where sharks still congragate in huge numbers, because those are the areas where, while enroute to this country, 200,000,000 African slaves were thrown overboard during the 300 years of slavery in this country?
Never mind that they were such a valuable commodity that they wouldn't have been thrown overboard. Never mind that, back in the 1500's, there probably weren't more than a 100,000, people on the entire continent of Africa, and never mind that even if Lewis was right, that would mean that about 1,800 slaves were thrown overboard from ships every single day for 300 years, which is preposterous on the face of it, considering how many slave ships would have been required to transport that many slaves every day, 365 days a year.
Don't take my word it. Do the math yourself. But, of course, the MSM were too lazy to do the math themselves when Lewis made that preposterous assertion on the floor of Congress several years ago. At the time, they lamented how horrible it was that 200,000,000 slaves had been fed to the sharks.
Naw, Congressman John Lewis doesn't have a propensity to exaggerate or to distort the facts or to tell outright lies to draw attention to himself. The guy is a blowhard, and just a run-of-the-mill, garden variety bullshit artist. Never mind that he isn't very bright.

"Would have been more effective if they then contrasted this with all the "yay for democracy" cheerleading from the media when liberals made major movies fantasizing about Bush's assassination, called for the assassination of Bush at protests, hung him in effigy, shot bullets at the campaign offices of GOP congressmen, assaulted GOP campaign workers, etc."
Dan,
I had the same thought. Then I saw this:
"...Even from the perspective of a generally-right-wing, South-Korean (an American Ally)..."
It's kind of like grabbing the eggs at a kid's easter egg hunt to point out this concern troll, but someone has to be the first to do it.

Odd, isn't it, that with all of the TV cameras and phone cameras which were present when John Lewis claimed that someone called out the N-word to him 15 times, none of those cameras, not one of them picked up those racial slurs which were were alleged to have been shouted out to him, and nobody captured that incident on tape.
Odd, isn't it, too, that when a white man was alleged to have spit at that other black Congressman, the TV footage of that incident showed that that black Congressman just stood there without cringing or recoiling and without even complaining. Wouldn't you at least cringe if someone spit on you?
Although it isn't politically correct to say so in today's climate of sensitivity to the horrible plight of African Americans in this country, me thinks that both of those black Congressmen are truth challenged. But I suppose that makes them victims in some weird way, too. America. Ain't it grand?

Never mind that those sharks would've starved from not having had access to their preferred food source (per Lewis) for hundreds of years.

I saw a video of the incident that showed the congressman wiping spit off his jacket and cheek. He then approached the guy and started to give him shit.
It was obvious that it was a "say it, don't spray it" moment. The "spitter" had his hands cupped and was chanting "kill the bill."
The best part of the video that I saw had the congressman returning to "scene of the crime" with a capitol policeman a minute later. It appeared that the congressman was explaining to the cop what had happened and was looking around for the "assailant" who was still at his place less than three feet away.
Guess all us white dudes look alike. Heh.

And when eaten by cannibals, it was said that they tasted like chicken, too.

Keith Olbermann: " ... a total disinterest in the welfare of others ... "
Keith, idiot, just about everyone is disinterested in the welfare of others. Unless one has an economic stake in the welfare of somebody else (like a doctor or a therapist) then one is, by definition, disinterested.
(Or maybe you meant uninterested. There's a difference, y'know.)

Hmmm, okay, if you say so. FOX must have edited that segment out of their entire tape of that incident. How weird. Those dastardly right-winger Nazis at FOX. They always slant their news to make Democrats look bad. Just ask Joy Bahar. She tells it like it is, and she had credibility, too.

Apparently dissent was "patriotic," when it consisted of cheerleading for an armed foreign enemy, while American troops were actively engaged in a war authorized by a wide bipartisan majority in Congress. Protesting against domestic legislation that is being passed by a razor-thin single party majority is of course not "unpatriotic."
George Orwell would recognize the technique.

That needed one word edited out to make any sense...
