Meet The Candidate: Alaska Edition?
— Russ from Winterset

OK, from the "Extra 5 Minutes of Fame" category, we've got THIS story about a single dad former high school sports star who goes back to his hometown to run for mayor to "make his son proud of him". Or, as we say here in Iowa....a high school dropout starf&*ker who knocked up his high school girlfriend & abandoned her and his infant son to schmooze his way around Hollywood with Kathy Griffin while desperately taking shots at his almost-mother-in-law to try and prolong his alloted 15 minutes.

Yes, that's right. Levi Johnston is back in the news. No, he didn't get arrested in a bus station bathroom for "indecent exposure". No, he didn't get arrested for domestic abuse for whacking his current girlfriend in the melon with a hubcap. No, this is even better than all that. Apparently, Levi's going to be moving back to his hometown of Wasilla, AK and letting a reality show crew follow him around while he runs for the job of Mayor of Wasilla, which comes up for grabs in 2012.

Hey, didn't Wasilla have another famous mayor? One who gave birth to Levi's babymomma? And ran for VP on the Republican ticket 2 years ago? And who provided 99.999% of the reflected fame that Levi has been basking in lately. But don't forget....this show is ALL about Levi, not that ignorant Republican Snowbilly Quitter/Slut.

My thoughts? Well, think about how tired you are of hearing about the Wacky Antics of this sub-genius. Now picture all the residents of Wasilla, who've known him one hell of a lot longer than we have. Yeah, this should go over like a warm case of New Coke in the Runaway Weather Balloon with Star Wars Kid AND the "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!" androgyne. We're not just in "Heavens Gate" territory here; this is full on Caddyshack 2. Shit, this is Slap Shot 2.

I can't help thinking about the old "Joe Schmo" reality show on Spike TV, where clueless contestants were placed in fake reality shows where EVERYONE else is an actor and in on the gag. Could this be history repeating itself? If this show wasn't the chance for some granola-chewing Hollywood douchenozzles to take weekly shots at Sarrahcuda, I'd say it's fairly likely; but, sadly, I think it's for real.

Levi, if your manager is reading this to you, may I make one suggestion? Kathy Griffin. You do realize that she's famous for hanging with a FABULOUS gay posse, right? You think she might know something about your career prospects (cough, cough, GAY PORN, cough) that you haven't realized yet? But hey, don't let me harsh your buzz. You're doing a bang up job with your life so far. Might as well keep swinging away, Tiger.

4 "Reality" show, huh?  Looks like the crack heads in Hollyweed have finally gone over the edge.  Seeing as Doofus will be campaigning in the winter months, the Hollywood pussies won't be hanging around there for long.

5 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pray that Charles Manson doesn't get paroled because these stupid shit entertainment imbeciles will give the bastard a reality show. They have NO STANDARDS, NONE. And really, who cares about the well being of the child, as long as there is money to be had? TV industry people are shallow, self serving, little, low IQ, small dick, shits, who honestly believe that they are morally superior to mean, old, greedy, fat cat conservatives. And, gee, who are we, in the real world, to argue with these intellectual giants, who are pumping swill onto the airwaves?

8 Uhm... Levi is not eligible for Mayor of Wasilia.  Conservatives4Palin have noted the city codes that 1) candidates for Mayor have to live in Wasilia--Levi doesn't, and 2) the Mayor has to be at least 21--Levi isn't.

Posted by: enoxo at August 10, 2010 06:58 PM (OtaTc)

9 Oh jeez, so the election for Wasilla mayor isn't until 2012?  We seriously have to have this double=plus a-hole around for two frickin years?

No one will watch his show after episode 2, but who will take bets on the network keeping it alive just so they can make jabs at Palin.

I don't know if they've noticed or not, but all the MSM's shots at Palin just make people like her more, and like them less.

Posted by: BeckoningChasm at August 10, 2010 06:58 PM (eNxMU)

10 We can always hope that someone in Wasilla will have a few too many in the local tavern, and kick his worthless ass. You know sometimes people in real America have this basic common sense that those in New Yawk, and Dumbifornia lack.

12 enoxo @9:  You did read the part of the story where they state that he'll be running for the job in 2012, right?  I know that the original story on this was that he'd be running right now, but considering that the job isn't up for election until 2012, I think that was just sloppy research on someone's part.

Posted by: Gomez at August 10, 2010 07:09 PM (M8UmI)

17

Gomez.  Not paying attention today, are we?  Let me break it down for you:

The Mayor of Wasilla faces reelection in November of 2012.  Any possible challengers would have to establish residency in Wasilla, AK by October 2011 to be elgible for the position.  This gives any prospective candidates a mere.....14 months to find a house, apartment or insulated garage to call home within the City Limits of Wasilla, AK.

And the age question?  As long as Levi turns 21 before assuming office, he can run for the job.

   Any other dumb questions?

Posted by: Russ from Winterset at August 10, 2010 07:11 PM (/MEFr)

18

Gomez @ 17:  I think in this case, the preparation for the election will be the premise for the show.  He doesn't have to win the job.  Hell, he doesn't even have to file paperwork.  All he needs to do to get some Hollywood love is to move back home and start schmoozing his former friends & neighbors to try and convince them that he's the best possible candidate for Mayor.

Is it a longshot?  Yes.  Would it be epic bad TV?  Yes.  Does that mean that it's a metaphysical certainty that it won't happen?  Unfortunately, no.....

20 1. Either Mr. Johnston needs to be taught the first lesson of holes.

OR

2. This was the plan all along.

That Sarah allowed this creep to get within touching distance of her daughter is starting to reflect on Sarah's sensibilities and sensitivities. (to her detriment.)

I know that the situation of one's teenage daughter in love with a class-A dick has to be handled with kid gloves but it seems that Sarah fumbled it and darling daughter wound up preggers and has also grown a 150 lb. walking, talking tumor.

Or (if one wishes to go really into the upper stratosphere of paranoia) Sarah is in on the whole thing with Levi to garner sympathy from her fans, approbation, justification and self-satisfaction (so that they reveal their true natures) from her 'haters' and lots and lots of media attention from the slavering hyenas of the MFM.

My bet's on Levi being a genuine clueless chill billy who thought he could parlay his connection to Sarah and her family into stardom and some cash. (egged on by some highly motivated $$$$ operatives from the left-o-sphere)  Unfortunately (or fortunately as the case may be) he's got so little class and charisma that's not going to happen and I'm beginning to wonder how Bristol fell for this Lame-o.

23   Apparently, I drew the short straw today and got to repost this story.  I originally wanted to link to the takedown of the show put out today by Conservatives4Palin, but the new news that the show will focus on the 2012 election makes most of their factual points moot.  So I ran with a quick analysis of the story.  Besides, Ace posted this story more than 24 hours ago.  IIRC, a "repost" is twice in 24 hours......so "technically", while this is a "repost", it's not a "repost repost".

This was cute. Mayor Verne E. Rupright tells ET, "Well, it is a little early to declare. Usually most wait until the year the seat is up. Like a used rubber. (Cindy Sheehan, anyone?) Is he a douche? Without a doubt. Is he a clever, manipulative douche? Not likely. Somebody else is pulling the strings here.

69 Our democracy is not a fucking joke, though.  Wasilla is a town that needs and deserves a decent local government.

It's not like Presidential politics, where if someone can't take the spotlight of the nation, they should step aside.  Some of the best town mayors simply can't take that kind of heat, and especially when they consider the Palin Full Treatment.  These people might have kids, or even a skeleton in their closet.

Levi is screwing his neighbors over.

75 Yes Levi is a shit bag for all the reasons we have stated in previous threads. He is much like a lot of the young fools I have seen in this area in the past ten to 20 years.

This is the now generic LBJ great society teen with no ambition; knock up girlfriend(s), drop out of school, never have a real job etc. until all the chickens come home to roost.  His girlfriend? Pretty much what we see here.

Young, pretty, and of upper middle class parents who really expected more from them. The typical "Levi" teen guy sees them as a walking vagina with possibility of a meal ticket. The typical "Bristol" teen sees him as some kind of anti-hero hunk who will take them away to a life of wedded bliss without interference form "overbearing" mom and dad. Money issues, not a problem at all; love will find a way and besides, there are all kinds of government programs.

And there lies the root of the problem; "all kinds of government programs". They incentivise this kind of behavior. Until we get rid of these programs we will continue to get more and more of these generic "Levi's" and "Bristols".

But the real point here?  We can not blame the shit bag for this show. The shit bag is an uneducated fool with no job talent or experience. He will jump at the chance for easy money from any source since the Palin goldmine is now mined out.

76 On the GA Gov Republican primary it looks like the more liberal Deal will win with a margin of about 1500 votes.

This is surprising since Palin backed Handel beat him in the original primary by 10 points.

Could this be tampering by the Dems since they have no runoff and GA has open primaries?

84 He's just a mixed up kid. He'll outgrow it. But I doubt Sarah will.

Sarah doesn't have to grow up, because she raised her children and accepted her responsibilities throughout life. When Sarah Palin ran for mayor, it was because she felt ready to assume a leadership position in her community. Levi and the Democrats seem to think this is some kind of joke, as evidenced by the bang up job the "adults in charge" are doing right now.

90 So most of us decry the collapse of the norms that ushered in all these unwed teen pregnancies which in turn usher in permanent poverty for those same teens.

What does the Dem PR rag known as NPR do?  The promote it with article like this:

MTV's 'Teen Mom' Makes For Teaching Moments

They gush about the "lessons learned":

The point of the shows is to have teens demonstrate to their peers how hard it is to become responsible for a baby before you're really responsible for yourself. Cameras follow the young mothers-to-be as they make tough decisions about their lives, like dropping out of high school, either because it's too exhausting or to escape being gossiped about.

No mention of the fact that these pregnancies didn't start on this gargantuan scale until after the LBJ regime and reign of terror.

No mention that by showing these "beautiful" teens they are virtually glorifying this activity.

91 Standards have really slipped in our society. Michelle Obama's trip to Spain, the Ground Zero mosque, Obama's finger scratching and shoulder brushing on the campaign trail, the porn hustling son of a meth dealer and a high school dropout to boot stalking a genuinely accomplished politician who is also the grandmother to his child... It's pathetic that this behavior was ever condoned by Americans, much less encouraged.

The democrats created a permanent underclass by detonating the social norms that responded to indiscriminate and irresponsible behavior. Wow, the old Dem PR rag is just chock full if stuff today. How about this one where local Demonrats are contemplating an “anti-Alvin Greene” measure to prevent upstarts like him from upsetting their control of primaries.

Dems mull candidate pledge

South Carolina Democrats are quietly debating whether future candidates should have to pledge that they will abide by election and ethics laws — or risk being taken off the ballot.

Such a pledge could have helped the party avoid its embarrassment over Alvin Greene, the surprise victor of its June 8 U.S. Senate primary. The party later tried to get Greene to abandon his candidacy after news broke that he faces a felony pornography charge.

The pledge idea is being pushed in part by former state lawmaker and Charleston County Councilman Vic Rawl, who lost to Greene even though Greene had raised no money, did not campaign and had not filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission. He later filed with the FEC.

“An expanded or additional pledge would enhance the ability of the party to assure the citizens of the state that candidates comply with the law,” Rawl said. “I think that is a duty of a political party.”

IOW, sour grapes measure. Break out the popcorn folks the Dem Party here is trying to alienate their last major constituency besides the old FDR breed who are > 75 y.o. and dieing off.
