MFM: Picking Sides In Illinois Senate Race
— DrewM

Surprisingly, they are siding with the Democrat. I know, right?

It seems Mark Kirk (a rather moderate Republican) has spent a lot of time pointing out that his opponent, Obama supported Democrat Alexi Giannoulias, is tied to a failed and corrupt bank.

Well, this is just too much for the CBS affiliate in Chaicago. They have announced they simply won't cover the race if that's all Kirk is going to talk about.

"Channel 2's made a decision that we’re really not going to cover the Senate race if it consistently, only in your terms is about Broadway Bank," the reporter, whom a colleague identified as veteran political producer Ed Marshall says in the clip, said to be from a Monday press conference. "The bank's been taken over by the government. Alexi’s been pilloried. Tell me – what is your campaign going forward?"

Follow the link as the News Director tries to walk this back claiming they are pushing both candidates.

Yeah, that doesn't explain the "Alexi's been pilloried" comment. Awww, the poor corrupt Chicago Democrat is getting beat up for being corrupt. Don't worry, the MFM is here to protect him!

As infuriating as this is, it's nice to see that the MFM simply isn't even trying to hide their allegiance any more.

The sooner these dinosaurs collapse, the better.

Speaking of which, anyone want to buy Newsweek?I bet it's pretty cheap.

5 Boy, this really isn't the year for either leftists or Greeks to be running on the basis of financial "acumen."

6 Arianna Huffington and Nia Vardalos are raising money for Alexi.  They, um, want a Greek in the Senate.  I can't imagine why though.  Maybe something to do with that new IMF bailout that is a gift to lazy fucking asshole Greeks in Greece.

Haven't been following the race (and I even live in Illinois, so, yeah, I'm an idiot), but if Kirk doesn't talk at least a bit about himself and his plans, that's a major mistake.

When Rubio and Crist were on Fox News Sunday, basically all Crist's talking points were about Rubio.  Very little about his own agenda. Looked bad.

I'll buy it. I'll put tits on page three like they do in the UK. Other than that I'll put krakatoa on the climate / geology beat, and Monty can write the editorials. But mostly it's all about page three.

11 Offering $200 cash for Newsweek

Drat.  I was going to offer them the pile of empties in my apartment.  Glass, but they could take 'em back for the nickels...

12 Pilloried?   Really?

Yeah, okay, perhaps being nominated for high political office by the dominant party of the state represents public humiliation.

Once upon a time, there might have been journalists who would actually think this guy's background makes him unsuited for public office.    Not a lot of them, perhaps, and they'd need to check their cars for bombs three times a day, but enough.

Now, we get shit like this clown.

Let's see Giannoulis pilloried.  Really.  I mean, actually lock the guy up in stocks so we can chuck rotten cantaloupe at his head.

As for Newsweek, hell, I'd pay more for fifteen minutes of tongue-time with Contessa Brewer.

The really great thing about this, for all of you lucky people that don't live in Illinois, is that Alexi Gianoullias, the guy whose family bank failed for millions, is currently.......Treasurer of the State of Illinois! And look how well Illinois is doing financially! Gotta keep failing upwards to Senator!

I know Kirk's a squishy Repub, but I hope he kicks Alexi's ass up and down Halsted Street.

16 What is 'MFM'

The second M stands for media.  The MF stands for exactly what you think it stands for.

You know, if we went after corrupt Democrats like we do Republicans, there wouldn't be any Democrats left. And really, who wants that?

15  Exactly...because we all know what sort of healthy financial shape the LOL is in right now.**

Kirk, has to watch his words though -- he isn't terribly popular himself; if the media forces him to talk about his platform/himself, he risks alienating people who are presently focused on what a dirty schmuck Gino is. (this "poor Gino" bs will work well for Kirk though -- nobody who isn't already bought and paid for is going to buy it).

**yeah, that was sarcasm -- and by the way; I think I should get a Dear Abby type of advice column in this new and improved Newsweak (I got kids to feed, come on!)

23 Kirk should now "pillory' the MFM as being "in bed" with Giannoulias.  How's that for 'going forward'?  Two for the price of one!

The Republicans should HAVE BEEN pillorying the Media for the last 40 years.

27 Giannoulias has been running ads around here recently. They all have the predictable meme Kirk voted for BUUUUUSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH and got us into this "mess". It leads me to think that either Giannoulias' sense of irony or sense of humor is really high.

Posted by: Doc at May 05, 2010 03:12 PM (rzJpR)

28 The Chicago media has barely touched the Giannoulias' story. And when it does it glosses over it. Newsweak is dying along the rest of the big lib media. I can't wait to piss on its grave.
