More Dippin': Brown 63-31 Over Coakley With Independents
— Ace

But remember the state is hugely Democratic.

Also there: Brown vows he'll be the 41st vote to save America from socialism.

Great stuff.

This, I think, is a very important question: will Kennedy, the Independent, be the 2nd or 3rd name on the ballot?

If he's second on the ballot...ho ho ho hee hee hee, I think that will be significant.

21 I feel like the independents and the republicans and conservatives are chomping at the bit to vote.  I almost feel like they are putting this out there so they breathe a sigh of relief and feel they don't have to go out and vote.  This way they can mobilize the dems and win.  Sort of like when they would report the election results and then the people on the west coast would think well, if it is already decided, then why bother to vote.  Does that make sense?

I don't think that's the case, curious.

It's the run-of-the-mill Democrats who will not be motivated to vote. The leaners and the Republicans will be the blocs motivated to vote, and, of course, the hardcore Democrat base.

This time, the independents and conservative will outnumber the Democrat's votes.

"I almost feel like they are putting this out there so they breathe a sigh of relief and feel they don't have to go out and vote."

No.  I travel to Boston for business sometimes, and my collegeues there are democrats, and I asked them about that line that should Scott win, they will delay the swearing in. These collegues of mine are VERY opposed to the DeathCare, their biz will be hurt. And when they heard what Kirk said, I will just say, they are PISSED!

and the statement was made just 1 week before the elections, these Dim witted marxists have no clue how pissed off the voters, even democrats are in MA.  That statement by Kirk has just poured gasoline on the fire.

Look, Brown was gonna get 40%, minimum. Even a shitbum Republican gets no less than 35% when running against Kennedy or Kerry.

But...

1) Scott Brown is not a shitbum, he's an excellent candidate
2) Kennedy nor Kerry is on the ballot. Coakley is on the ballot, and she's just a hack.
3) This is not a regular election.

We are living in extraordinary times and people are angry and motivated for real change. So don't expect things to go as they have in the past.

Posted by: elliot m

Unfortunately the problem goes beyond Steele - let's face it the entire Republican leadership is pathetically tone-deaf to the current mood of the country. Sadly none of them seem to understand the importance of throwing full support behind this candidate for the message that it would send if he won, or even came close,  in the bluest of blue states.

Posted by: rian at January 09, 2010 05:17 PM (G5p2r)

33 Guys. Dial it down a bit. With our luck, Steele/Brown will proclaim something idiotic, and turn the entire state against him, and the lead with evaporate and nothing will come of this.

Or... ACORN will do their Obama (PBUH) given duty, and commit voter fraud once again.

/sorry to be so pessimistic.

34 Ya know the stupidest thing the democrats did was announce their evil plans of not seating Brown if the Big If happens.  Now everybody will be watching every f'n delay these bastards try.  If they didn't let the dead cat out of the bag, they just could've methodically took their time.  If they still do it, there will be a wave in the election like we have never seen.

40 "But remember the state is hugely Democratic."

True, relative to the Republicans.  I took a look at the registration at the MA SoS site, though and, though it is old, here are the most recent numbers put up there (Aug 2004):

Total registered: 4,098,634
Dem: 1,526,711
Repub: 532,319
Lib: 23,900
Grn - RNB 9,509
Unenrolled:  2,000,062
There's another column "Political Designations" with 6,133.

It looks like the "Unenrolled" is number for "Independents".  If it is, then heavily Democratic Massachusetts might not be so heavy right about now.

I agree with folks who say it's a tough battle.  That's a no brainer.  But my response to that is...so?

Are we only willing to fight the easy battles?  We're talking about our country here.

People who state the obvious like that seem to do so to rain on the parade of others and attempt to dampen their spirit.  For what good purpose?

We aren't two year olds here.  We know the obstacles.  But we also know the stakes and recognize that we must do everything in our power to fight to save our Republic.

82 81. From my experience working in Saudi, Bahrain and Turkey, we in the west openly drink and flirt and the ladies look feminine, unlike the Islamics in their own countrys. The men save the flirting and drinking, and the females save the makeup and miniskirts for the minute the plane leaves national airspace. The booze starts flowing and the line of ladies waitin to get outta the burkha at the plane toilet takes half hour to wind down. I have to think it is that they are envious of the freedoms of the non islamic world, as they show that that freedom is what they want as soon as they are in the air. The Jihadists seem to hate everyone who is not of their sect, Islamic or not.

Posted by: onlyme at January 09, 2010 06:56 PM (7g4LE)

83 BTW, There are other Islamic countries I have worked in that don't have that same opinion, there are open brothels in Malaysia, and in Indonesia it is not unusual to see women bathing naked in the Jakarta canals, alcohol is freely available and the people are very open to Americans everywhere in those countries I have worked and visited.

Posted by: onlyme at January 09, 2010 07:04 PM (7g4LE)

84 You think that's it, or do you think that when they read about propostitions for gay marriage and acceptance of sick freaks like trannies in this country, and other insanity like that which goes on in this country routinely, they feel revulsion and disgust for this country?

Posted by: Mystery Guest at January 09, 2010 07:08 PM (ITzbJ)

85 Thailand is largely Islamic, it is the transsexual capital of the world. If you get in a tup tup with someone you check the crotch to make sure it is the gender (unless post-operative) of the person you thought you were gettin in with. It isn't quite as open in Indonesia or Malaysia but trans-sexual and trans-gender is not a big deal either place, at least in the big and mid size cities I have worked in.

Posted by: onlyme at January 09, 2010 07:11 PM (7g4LE)

So what you're saying is that even Muslims like to party? Hmmm, go figure.

Moral people draw a line between partying, and perversion and excesses.

Posted by: Mystery Guest at January 09, 2010 07:12 PM (ITzbJ)

87 Another point, homosexuality is fairly prevalent among middle eastern Islamics although lesbianism is not, at least from the conversations I have had with Islamic friends while workin in the middle eastern countries I have mentioned. In Istanbul you can go into clubs and find men makin out while the belly dancer is dancing. Men holding hands is a common sight. The South East Asian countries, again, neither seems to be worth mentioning.

Posted by: onlyme at January 09, 2010 07:16 PM (7g4LE)

88 Define moral. Christian? Buddhist? Islamic? Shinto? Hindi? And no, I am not saying Islamics like to party, I am saying that many toss off the bounds, strictures and religious morality as soon as the international limit is reached.

Holy shit, the Brown surge is for real.

My uncle is a very moderate guy.   He voted for Romney, but also for Kerry and Obama.  One of the classic "Massachusetts independent" types who always seem to inevitably swing Democrat.

And he is FIRED THE FUCK UP to go vote for Scott Brown.  He's making sure his entire family (wife, three kids) goes out and votes too.  Telling his friends.  Getting the word out.  I've never seen him this interested in a political race in my life.  It's interesting that he says that he actually thinks Coakley has done an okay job as AG -- as I said, he's not one of us, not a partisan righty.  It's just that he, and a lot of people he's talking to, are so fed up and so scared about Obamacare and the out-of-control spending in Washington that ALL they're thinking about is "41st vote, 41st vote."  As he said, "hey, if I don't like this guy I can just vote him out in a couple years anyway."

These folks are exactly the sorts of independents/Dems that Brown needs to have a shot.  And he's getting them.

Man, if Brown pulls this out I'm just going to keep posting, all-caps, in every thread: "THE BAND IS ON THE FIELD!  THE BAND IS OUT ON THE FIELD!"

I want to believe.

92 Hope he will be 41st vote on Cap'n'Tax too.

93 Hope he will be 41st vote on Cap'n'Tax too.

Nah, won't even be necessary.  He can vote in favor of it if it might give him a shot at reelection, because there's no way cap & trade will even APPROACH 60 votes in the Senate.  Even BEFORE the healthcare debacle sent Democrat numbers into the shitter that was a dead letter in the Senate.  Too many Senators from states that are heavily dependent on coal and gas (WV, VA etc.)

Posted by: Jeff B. at January 09, 2010 07:33 PM (GhUHn)

94 What good does coal do when the EPA and the ecofreaks are blocking the mining?

Posted by: onlyme at January 09, 2010 07:39 PM (7g4LE)

95 Havin him commit against Cap'n'tax gives an indication on his stance on the overreach of epa and on easing some of the save the snail darter type legislation that is strangling US internal resource development.

So what you're saying is that there are sleazy people everywhere? Whoa, another revelation.

So you're saying, also, that you like to hang out in those sleazy places?

To each his own. If you want to go slumming, that's your prerogative.

When we've visited foreign countries, we preferred to visit museums, historic sites, restaurants and places of entertainment more indicative of those countries' cultures - [not] the seemy side of life in those countries.

Only me,

Billygoat is from Madina (NE, OH) & I am from Hamilton (SE, Oh).  From what part do you hail?

Posted by: Ohio Dan at January 09, 2010 07:46 PM (rurh0)

99 97 Gee, a bigot appears. When I visited foreign countries I was working 12 hours a day, went where the van went when work finished. The people I met were the ones workin in the factories, not the international hotels and tourist joints. I didn't meet the 5 star hotel denizens, the upper management, the tour guides, the approved for sanitized snapshot locations, I was working with the engineers, technicians, machine operators, the kind of people that make the machines work that produce the goods that drive the economy. Sorry your high and mightiness, but I had no time between projects to go out and play like the rich folks, I was too busy teaching the locals how to install, run, troubleshoot and keep quality production goin, and goin after work to the places they took me and meetin the backbone of the country.

Posted by: onlyme at January 09, 2010 07:48 PM (7g4LE)

100 close to hamilton ... lived in fairfield worked in tri county area, got family in mason ... visit the bait shop in Hamilton for worm bedding, the old peat stuff.

101 /me rates MysteryGuest a solid B+ for bigotry and ubermorality.

102 good meetin ya Ohio Dan ... and maybe billygoat sometime as well.

Posted by: onlyme at January 09, 2010 07:53 PM (7g4LE)

103 No kidding.  I am a local balloon pilot around here.  My neighbor is with P&G and does a lot of engineering work overseas.  Sets up toothpaste factories in Russia, China and Germany.  The travel gets old.  He comes back upset at some of the things he sees in some of the places but manages to carve out a little time to get a little tourism time in.  I'm in the Fairfield TWSP area.  If Cincy or Columbus ever has a moron meetup maybe our paths will cross.  By the way,  Kasick has a real shot at Gov.  He would be the first good one in Ohio in my memory from either party.

A "bigot", huh? "High and mightiness", huh? Yeah, right. LOL. Why doesn't your rationale surprise me?

"backbone of the country", huh? Um, yeah, the salt of the earth, the ordinary people, right? LOL. Give me a fuck'n break. You insult my intelligence.

It's like I said, guy, it was your prerogative. But when you grow up, you might look back with regret, and realize in retrospect that you wasted your time and your life.

Posted by: Mystery Guest at January 09, 2010 07:58 PM (ITzbJ)

105 I called Chabot and volunteered a few months ago ... dunno if he has said he is runnin again yet, bt not been contacted since the conversation. Kasick gotta beat Strickdumb. Anyone gotta beat Sherrod Brown. I let him know I will be actively campaigning against him because he is voting against the will of his constituents. Got a form letter back from Sherrod. Yippee.

By the way,  Mystery Guest,  What the hell is your problem.  Your setting up a strawdog, making bullshit accusations regarding onlyme. The guy, and I only assume he is a guy made some observations about the lay of the land in the countries he has worked in and you have him running in bars and hanging in brothels. Get a life.   I really don't get you trolls.  Do you like abuse?  I am a piker here when it comes to insulting people.  Move on.

Posted by: Ohio Dan at January 09, 2010 08:05 PM (rurh0)

107 I can almost guarentee Steve is running.  I keep in close contact with Boehner.  We are only looking at the Portman and Kasich campaigns for now.  Brown doesn't come up for another 5 years.

Posted by: Ohio Dan at January 09, 2010 08:07 PM (rurh0)

108 It was you, Mystery Guest, who started casting aspersions, against I assume transgender people, trans-sexuals, people who go to nightclubs, tapisterias, local bars etc. when they get off work, you know, those "sleazy places" as you termed them, instead of finding a 24 hour museum somewhere to go to, or one of those 24 hour cultural locations like ... lets see, the colliseum was open 24 hours? The temple of heaven? The tunnels in Cu Chi? Maybe the Monkey Temple outside KL? So, how many 12 hour and up work days did you put in while working in the 130 degree heat in Saudi, or freezing in Songtan Korea ... how many training classes for the factory engineers, maintenance techs, machine operators have you run? How many people outside the US have you helped develop job skills that help them improve their lifes?

Posted by: onlyme at January 09, 2010 08:12 PM (7g4LE)

109 Ohio Dan ... cool. I got a bit pissed with Driehaus ... with his parroting all the bullpucky about Insurance reform aka obamacare. I don't think he appreciated my telling him that he was another who I would be helping to oust from his place at the trough.

Perspectives, guy:

114 I don't know.  I have never seen it done and I have been posting here for a while.  Do any of you other morons have any info.  So as to not break any rules I pose a riddle.  Take the first letter of the city at the Western end of the Fox Hwy.  Follow it with the first letter of the town North of you the has a prison just outside of it.  Then the first letter the city within a city, _orwood, and the first letter of our state. Followed by @ msn.com.  If anyone said I let the cat out of the bag I would have to say Hell No.  Let me know how that works out for you.

115 Mystery,  your off base.  Respect your service.  4 years USMC myself.  Vietnam, medcruise when Nasser was kickin up a stink, Gitmo, Oki and a few other places.  I thought it was odd to see the local guys holding hands in Nam.  Just a cultural thing.  Mostly a Buddhist region as I recall.  I don't get where you read Onlyme spent his life in the watering holes of the world though I don't think a little of it is a bat thing.

118 I spent  6 months TAD to the MPS in Jacksonville, NC.  Stopping drunk Marines from fighting on Friday and Saturday nights was a regular occurence. I didn't have to drag them all out.  Just a few.  A few give the rest a bad name.  Unlike the 99% of lawyers that give the rest a bad name.  Its a joke guys.

Posted by: Ohio Dan at January 09, 2010 08:45 PM (rurh0)

119 The guys who went back in country after normalization mostly hung out in Saigon in the Apocalypse Now or the Gecko bar ... and a few in the Hard Rock Coffee. Apocalypse Now was so thick with ganja smoke when I was there in about 92 you couldn't breathe without gettin stoned. The locals preferred to take me to the KTV's and the coffee mai lanh shops n watch the people bicycle by on Duong Pasteur or close to the opera house. BTW, mail sent, not sure the second letter is correct. I use an aliasing system for posting addys in the open, one time use.

"Unlike the 99% of lawyers that give the rest a bad name."

One of my ex-wives was an attorney with the most prestigious law firm in Manhattan.

You can't possibly imagine how slimy some attorneys are until you attend their cocktail parties and hear them brag about their slimy exploits.

The "law firm model" has been broken by this recession.  Those who can figure out another way will survive.  Those who can't and want to continue the model will have tough going.

Great to hear from you Dayton Guy.  This is starting to look like we have enough morons for a meetup.

Onlyme, I never made it to Korea.  Compliments of our Uncle, I went to Crete, Greece, Spain, Cubaq, Vietnam, Okinawa, Japan, Hawaii, Alaska the East and West Coast of the good ole USA.  Since then the wife and I have been to Hawaii several times and Cozumel.  The rest has been in the Continental US.

Onlyme, I sent a note to the temp email BTW.

This healthcare debacle doesn't begin to address the real problem with the system which is an over abundance of lawyers sucking the life out of the system.  Was it Pogo who said,  "We have met the enemy and he is us. "  Too many folks see a lawsuit winning the lottery.  Lawyers are there to get their share.

Posted by: Ohio Dan at January 09, 2010 09:19 PM (rurh0)

Like good doctors, good attorneys will always earn a good living. It's like with any other profession; a recession separates the wheat from the chaff.

Posted by: Mystery Guest at January 09, 2010 09:21 PM (ITzbJ)

134 reply sent, thx. Hope you read overlawyered.com ... lawyers are part, mandates part, no interstate competition part, welfare insurance recipients who won't use primary care part of it .... way too many things screw it up here and seems none of the provisions of the "reform" will do any such thing. The cuts they talk about will never be made or the entire senior citizenry of the US will be in rebellion. That will be reinstated IMHO, and ... there will be even less hope for US keepin from bankruptcy than there is currently. Ohio does have medical tort reform but it has done next to nothing to help afaik.

143 This is the canary in the mineshaft for the Democrats in 2010 because even if Brown doesn't beat out Coakley it will be a squeaker for the Dems. Mass. is (clearly) a dense Democratic state where Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy won his last election with almost 65% of the vote.   Lame duck status will be formally confirmed on the presidency of Mr. Barry Hussein Soetoro, as well.

Canary. Mineshaft. 2010.

I was in Saigon two years ago and looked for the Gecko and Apo now, but I was ether lost or they are gone.  Recomend the Chu Bar which is close to the museum featuring Kerry.  Good food, beautiful women of course, and air conditioned.  Also went to a Australian pool hall type bar.  Korean women, hot beer of course, and hotter than outside.

Also went to the rooftop bar at the Rex and it was like walking into a time warp without the flares.

Posted by: bman at January 10, 2010 08:02 AM (Bnzgl)

148 The Rex was featuring Steak Tartare and Cauliflower Casserole au Gratin and was some of the best western food in the city. The hotel itself, opulent and very asian in flavor and decor ... Gecko was almost right behind the opera house on Hai Ba Trung, the Apocalypse one street further back and a few blocks toward the river. The Police Chief's son ran his string of hookers from the sidewalk on the river side of the Opera house. The best Pho was down Duong Pasteur ... The Queen Bee was another place across from the Rex ... big and usually busy, and another place I avoided.

149 http://www.newsrealblog.com/2010/01/10/bookworm-islams-obsession-with-sex/ A large part of the Islamic worldÂ’s hatred for America specifically, and the West generally, is premised upon the fact that the West gives women sexual freedom. And by sexual freedom, I donÂ’t simply mean the freedom to have sex. I mean the freedom to be feminine in public.

Hi Lizard Brain,

Yeah I didn't want to put my email out to the world at large so I coded it so Only Me a local could figure out the clues.

I was at FLC across from Red Beach just north of DaNang in 71.  I spent 8 months there and the Army was taking over for the Marines.  From there I shipped back to Okinawa for 9 months prior to getting out in Augus of 72 for college.

Where do you call home?
