— Gabriel Malor Last year, the President was trying to convince Congress to spend millions of dollars on wind turbines by saying the program would create jobs. He was perturbed by a then-recent report out of Spain that its wind power programs had cost 2.2 jobs elsewhere in the economy per "green" job created and at a cost of $800,000 a piece!
So what happened? His lackeys at Department of Energy coordinated with "green" lobbyists from the American Wind Energy Association and the Global Wind Energy Council and the Soros-funded think tank the Center for American Progress to produce criticism of the Spanish report. The short attack piece they produced under the seal of the Department of Energy (PDF) was then used by the President to keep pretending that green jobs aren't the economic black hole that the Spanish report (and common sense) tells us they are.
According to emails (damn those ever-incriminating emails!) recovered by FOIA request, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a division of Department of Energy, got interested in producing the report because the lobbyists asked them to. For example, from an AWEA email to NREL with the subject "Spanish jobs report":
"It is critical we respond, this thing won't die and its doing a good job of undermining our green job message."
And from NREL emails:
"AWEA policy people are quite concerned about a recent report published in Spain (likely the one cited here) and I suspect they are not the only ones." ... "We need to come up with an appropriate response to these criticisms soon. I just spoke to a few people at AWEA about this." ... "The AWEA folks are wondering what we'll do, so if this is our plan, I'll let them know."
One of the scientists actually thought there might be a problem with this:
"Are there issues with the no-lobbying prohibition? I recognize that-this is not a lobbying piece per se, but contributing directly to an AWEA and UCS communique could raise eyebrows. This may be perfectly ok, but I don't really know and we should check."
His concerns were swept aside.
As if that wasn't bad enough, Assistant Secretary of Energy Cathy Zoi, formerly (?) a lobbyist with Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection, then lied to Congress about the provenance of the attack memo, claiming that it was put together only because NREL "felt compelled to post the response... due to the high media interest in green jobs creation."
She failed to mention the entanglement between NREL "scientists" and wind energy lobbyists. That liaison would have been left undiscovered if Competitive Enterprise Institute hadn't smelled the stench coming out of Obama's Department of Energy.

Indeed. One of his first presidential acts, Porkulus was a trillion dollar handout to his friends and allies. UNPRECEDENTED as he likes to say.
However, I think the Walpin affair is what the grounds will be if the Reps have the guts.
Firing an IG to protect one of your political allies is textbook political corruption.

I just read this story was in the recent issue of the Limbaugh letter.
"Despite the $417,00 cost per machine, Minnesota is apparently too cold for the California units. Avant Energy, which "manage" the turbines, hopes they'll start spinning once "warming elements" - inlcuding a nonrenewable resource known as an electronic heater - are plugged in."

Same problem, though at different scales, with hydroelectric, as Venezuela is coming to grips with. Lefties, who grow up in an environment where electricity seems to be part of nature, never interrupted unless it's due to storms (which are caused by anthropogenic global warming) and then it's just a matter of repairing cables. These pea-brains don't understand that electricity must be continuously generated. They think there are great fields of batteries, somewhere ... though they hate batteries, since they are the biggest threat to the environoment ... outside of Man ...
This is a staticist hell that we are all being dragged into.

Hey, if we built a machine that carried heavy weights way up high...and caught them on the way down, we'd have unlimited energy! We'd just need like an electric escalator or something. And just keep using bigger weights to get more power.

Slightly off topic but not really, here's a story from today's Crain's Chicago Business about how Excelon (the company formerly known as Commonwealth Edison, when it was headed by Tom Ayers, father of Bill Ayers, both known commies and friends of Obama but I digress)
Exelon's Rowe pushes for cap-and-trade or carbon tax in energy policy reforms March 08, 2010
(Reuters) — U.S. energy reform has stalled now that the Democrats have lost their filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and Republicans drift to a more negative position, a top industry executive said on Saturday.
"What I see is a series of disjointed, piecemeal approaches that will not yield the optimal solution," Exelon Corp. Chairman John Rowe said in remarks prepared for a conference at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
A cap-and-trade system or a carbon tax are the only policy frameworks that could achieve each of the four desired outcomes from energy reform -- cleaner energy, greater security, job creation, and the lowest cost, Rowe said.
"The odds of Congress passing cap-and-trade legislation this year are slim. ... But I believe that we will keep coming back to some kind of legislation that puts a price on carbon emissions as the most efficient answer."
Chicago-based Exelon is one of the largest U.S. electric utilities and biggest nuclear power producer.
Rowe warned about the cost and confusion from a jumble of regulatory actions pending from the Environmental Protection Agency on gases blamed for warming the planet.
He showed the audience a color-coded slide of 27 pending actions in seven major areas that the EPA expects to take over the next seven years.
"Some of my colleagues in the industry have taken to calling this the 'train wreck' chart," he said.
"You can think of each of the seven colors on this chart as a car on the train — and each one could cost the utility industry billions to implement.
The regulations could ultimately force a move away from carbon-intensive, coal-fired electricity generation, if only because of their cost, Rowe said.
"We are moving inexorably toward a low-carbon society, but in unproductive and uneconomic fits and starts."
Ultimately, only legislation that places a price on carbon emissions "will efficiently encourage low-carbon investments and discourage high-carbon investments," said Rowe.
Cap-and-trade legislation would not be the job killer that opponents suggest, but instead could lay the groundwork for lasting jobs creation, Rowe said.

With some (I'm guessing here!) 100 million families building green wind-power generators in their homes, his Green Jobs initiative can take off like gangbusters! Of course, the building of the green wind-power generators must be designated as one or two jobs per generator initiated, but not completed.
Where is the money for homeowners to purchase and build their green wind-power generators to generate green jobs? The banks will have to supply the funding. Then, the banks can be paid back from government funds for the (hopefully) positive price difference between the cost of commercial electrical power and the low cost of building a wind generator for every home. Hopefully, there will be additional compensation for the homeowner to purchase the beans and rice necessary for the survival of the family unit during construction.
One asks, where is the time for the homeowners to build these green wind-power generators to come from? Well, the Obamadministration has failed in its program to generate jobs, so there are plenty of people-hours of jobs left for this project.

During Britain's two-week brush with a real winter (I'm sure readers recall the satellite photo showing all of Britain's main island covered in snow), they got no electricity from their windmills because it was too cold for them to work. The UK plan is to have a large amount of their power be from wind (yeah, right) although I can't recall the figure. (20%?)
Spanish pay .16 euros per kwh. That is like 22.5 cents per kwh. Nuclear would cost around 8 cents.
France has the most nuke power in Europe and the lowest electricity cost. Holland has the most windmills and the highest electricity cost in Europe.

Meanwhile, as China erects more efficient coal plants and expands its nuclear energy (and Switzerland powers almost 100% of its power from hydroelectricity and nuclear energy), Bush subsidized turning food products into fuel, and Obama throws out a pittance of attention and money to nuclear energy that will get purposefully lost in the bureaucracy.

Actually neither Bush nor Obama energy plans have put any money in nuclear. What they did was offer up a "loan guarantee". If you build a power plant and while under construction with billions in borrowed money the intervenors cause you to go bankrupt the government will pay off your loan (and take over your utility of course).
This piece is yet one more item that illustrates how corrupt this entire AGW/Green crap scheme really is. It has gone beyond the what if stage of Republican vs Democrat and green vs other industry, it is now in the why isn't someone being prosecuted stage? The actions detailed here are blatently illegal.
There should be some people in jail besides Bernie Madoff.

Pickens was stupid for believing it would ever work. I always thought it was a land grab. I wish he'd get his shit together and start pushing nuke energy. He'd even have more clout now that he's tried the green first hand.

He had tro scrub it for twom reasons which really boil down to one. First he could not get his lobbyists in DC to get the feds to pay for his windmills and second, he couldn't get the State of TX to take the land and give it to him for free.
In short he is a modern robber barron and he wanted the federal and state governments to steal from regular people and give it to him in the name of green.
