— Dave in Texas Man, those sneaky businesses, scheduling their benefits open enrollment periods before an election.
Apparently, there is a large number of people who bought the lines about “bending the cost curve down.” My point is this: As people go through benefits enrollment, and come to realize that the expiration dates have been reached on Obama’s promises, they will probably not look too charitably at the party that railroaded this through congress. At that point, the elections will be less than a month away.October surprise?
It's seems as though corporations will go to any length to undermine Democrats in this election, including a calendar fiscal year.
I'm callin it the Gregorian conspiracy.

Sept. 30 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. economy grew at a 1.7 percent annual rate in the second quarter, marking the start of a slowdown in growth that has concerned the Federal Reserve.
“We have a slow-growing economy,” said Michael Feroli, chief U.S. economist at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in New York. “What we’re getting will do nothing to bring down the unemployment rate. The improvement in the labor market is very slow.”
Looks like GDP is out to get Barry too.

It took me a while to get insurance but i finally got it at the rate i wanted. I had been rejected but reapplied with doctors notes, etc etc. I jumped through all the hoops. Well three months into it I get a letter saying they are applying for a rate increase. I am assuming everyones insurer is applying for a rate increase.
This was a f*cking debacle of epic proportions.
Costs are going up, large companies are dropping their plans, the elderly can't continue to see their doctors because the doctors are either dumping their medicare patients or not accepting new ones. Small companies are firing employees to get un the 50 employee cutoff line which means they don;t have to buy insurance or face a penalty.

You know, every time some new law is enacted that infringes upon civil liberties the common retort is usually, "If you're not doing anything wrong then you don't have anything to worry about." Well, that's my response to police who get PO'd about someone filming them in the course of their duties: if they're not doing anything wrong then they have nothing to worry about.

(link)From December 2008 to December 2009, Medicaid enrollment rose by nearly 3.7 million people, the biggest 12-month increase since the early days of the program's implementation, the report found. That accompanied a surge in demand for other low-income assistance. Nearly 12 million households received food stamps last year, a record.
Nearly every state - 48 in all - took some action to limit Medicaid spending last year, and most plan more cuts next year. Although they didn't reduce eligibility, Kaiser found that states took steps to restrict the scope of coverage:
- A record 20 states placed restrictions on benefits, and 14 plan new restrictions next year. Arizona, California, Hawaii and Massachusetts eliminated some or all dental coverage. Other states limited medical imaging, therapies, supplies and personal care.
- Thirty-nine states cut or froze payments to hospitals, doctors and other service providers, and most plan another round next year. Medicaid payment rates are already so low that in many states it's hard to find doctors who will accept the coverage.
- Eighteen states placed limits on long-term care services, and 10 plan additional limits next year. The recession officially ended in mid-2009, but the Kaiser study indicates its ill effects will take a while longer to wear off.

The government is just a little more evil I guess. It's kind of like the Chronicles of Riddick: you have to fight evil with another kind of evil. Or something.
Lol.. well, a corporation try's it's best to convince you to give it money in return for a product or a service. Sometimes they don't always highlight all the terms and conditions for you, and yes sometimes they use questionable tactics. Sometimes the product turns out to be substandard. But then you always have the choice of not giving them any money next time around.
The government on the other hand takes your money regardless of your wishes and then spends it on the stupidest crap imaginable, because it's not their money. There is not accounting, no oversight, just abuse after abuse after abuse. And the best part? You have no choice, they take your money one way or the other. They are going to keep taking your money and if you refuse you go to jail.
So to paraphrase a line from another movie of questionable cinematic reputation, in comparison corporations are like the diet coke of evil.. lol

The nerve of some people wanting to start a business and provide a decent service and/or product while providing for themselves and their families. Madness, isn't it?
When I was in HS, one moonbat history teacher who tried to explain to me how corporations control our lives. WTH?
Sure, corporations try to entice us to buy this brand of shoes or food, but in the end, they cannot force us to buy their products (well, they can't unless said business got into an unholy alliance with the government where you have to use their service/product to satisfy some regulation). However, the government can and does control our lives by regulation and taxation. Try to not comply with filing your taxes next year, and you'll soon discover how much power the federal (and other tiers) of government have over your life. Ask Wesley Snipes about the IRS in particular.

What tax revolt?
that is an upside that never occured to me.
If you're a 1099 you are responsible for paying all the taxes and the companies medicare and social secuirty withholding.
So instead of paying just the employees 6.2% Social Security Witholding and the 1.45% Medicare Witholding, you will also being paying the companies share of that too.
So 7.65% just became 15.3% for every worker.
Normally the company offsets this buy paying the contractor a higher hourly rate by than the employee, but i don't forsee that happening when companies move large portions of their employees to 1099 status.

Funny you should say that. I am currently reading "The Worst Hard Time" by Timothy Egan. It was recommended by one of the Morons in one of the Monty Sunday Book threads.
It tells the story of the hard times that the farmers in the panhandle country had at the start of the depression and into the dust bowl.
The parallels with the start of the great depression and today are simply frightening. History is repeating itself.
What is even more amazing is the author, a liberal NYT reporter, is even spouting the code of today in the time frame then. Evil Republican President refused to help the poor farmer (Hoover) and FDR/New Deal the best thing since sliced bread.
I am only halfway through the book and it is a good read if you discount the typical liberal propaganda and read up on how bad the people really had it back then.
The whiners of today need to have this shoved down their throats.

This was only a test. Had this been an actual blog comment it would have been followed by official information, news, or perhaps just generally silliness. Again, this was only a test.

Frankly, I'm going with dumb as a bunch of rocks. None of them impress me a being THAT clever. It's not so much what they think they know.
Nope. Remember, there is not one person in the current administration that has ever run a business. Had to meet payroll. Shop for and administer a benefits package. Was responsible for making ends meet or to even make a profit. All this stuff is as foreign to them as a profits to earnings ratio.

No, the IRS doesn't set that, your company does. Technically, Open Enrollment can be any time during the year. Most companies have it May/June for benefits to start in July or October/November for benefits to start in January. There are rules stating how often they can change that, and how to handle "short" or "long" years (basically, if someone doing OE in June wanted to move down to November, or vice versa), and a bunch of other regulations I don't remember (used to work for a COBRA/FSA Administrator). So, in effect, having set Open Enrollment for October/November, most companies will just keep those dates because it's too much of a pain to change even if they wanted to do so.

And when the democrats go down in a storm of fire and lava in November, that month will be racist, too. November is already pretty racist because of how the pilgrims slaughtered the Indians to eat them and steal their blankets or something, but it'll be even MORE racist after the mid-terms. November is only not racist when we elect a blackish president. Then it's okay.

Umm.. well, ya, actually I do.
I want to reverse the damage Barry has done to our economy.
I want to reverse out of control spending.
I want to reverse all of the slush funds that only seem to payout to Democratic donors and democrat controlled districts.
I want to reverse Obamacare
In short, I pretty much want to reverse the tremendous damage this administration has done to our country.

I believe it was Reagan who wanted to eliminate withholding taxes, and make taxpayers pay the whole thing on April 15th. THAT would get everybody's attention in a ny minute. By accepting withholding of your pay, you don't notice how badly you are being bled by the leeches.

While I knew this because I actually pay attention to politics, the vast majority of my co-workers did not realize this was part of the bill. Many people use OTC allergy medicine, pain relievers, antacids, and other meds that they pay for the spending accounts.
Our benefits costs went up due to the bill, too.

Wrong metaphor.
"D" is for Dive.
"R" is for Return to the surface so we can catch our breath.
It's obviously a submarine metaphor cleverly disguised as a '58 Edsel...
