"Awright, who live in Pennsylvania?"
If this has something to do with llamas, it was probably me.

The Federal Reserve is set to downgrade its assessment of US economic prospects when it meets on Tuesday to discuss ways to reboot the flagging recovery.
Faced with weak economic data and rising fears of a double-dip recession, the Federal Open Market Committee is likely to ensure its policy is not constraining growth and to use its statement to signal greater concern about the economy. It is, however, unlikely to agree big new steps to boost growth.
Should we change it to Flagging Recover Summer?

'Don't know, but the word around the time of the LA meetup (which I didn't attend) was that he was moving... I think back East (?) to work for an old employer.

We turned it off half way through.
Your post reminds me to ask the moron nation: did anyone actually like Sideways? Gotta' be the most overly hyped lousy "small movie" evah! Made me want to scoop out my brain with a spoon.

Same here (except for hanging on to the end). It struck me as the movie version of a self-involved middle-ager. Really boring.
'Haven't seen There Will be Blood. I guess I kind of knew to skip that one. We only saw Sideways on a whim (on cable, I think) while we were vacationing in Santa Barbara. Even going to the winery featured in the movie didn't raise the interest level for us.

I did; I thought it was a pretty good send-up of boomer wine snobs while still giving a pretty good description of why some people really really like wine. And hot milfs who like getting juiced with the high-priced stuff.
I watched "The Visitor" this weekend and even though I thought it was pretty well done, at some point I wanted somebody to come out and say "Ya know; if you aren't legally in a country and you get found out, no matter how good a guy you might be, you really shouldn't be allowed to stay". I don't know why fuckheads find that to be so difficult to understand.

I'll see your There Will Be Blood, and raise you an English Patient.
To paraphrase/grossly misrepresent Tolstoy, good movies are all alike, but every bad movie is bad in its own way.
Whether this is on purpose, or just the automatic side effect of co-star Cher is unclear, but, well, we will not look a gift Cher in the mouth.

Aug. 9 (Bloomberg) -- German security officials raided and closed a Hamburg mosque where some of the al-Qaeda hijackers who carried out the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks met, saying itÂ’s breeding Islamic extremists to fight in Afghanistan.
“We closed the Taiba mosque today because young men are being turned into religious fanatics there,” Christoph Althaus, the city-state’s top security official, said in a statement. The group running the mosque used it to “propagate ‘holy war.’”
A mosque being used as a front for terrorism? Can't be!

Gates to Cut Major Military Command in Virginia, Officials Say
The United States Joint Forces Command
provides mission-ready joint-capable forces and supports the development and integration of joint, interagency, and multinational capabilities to meet the present and future operational needs of the joint force
USJFCOM with its component commands will respond to combatant commandersÂ’ operational requirements by providing timely and mission-ready joint capabilities. To accomplish this USJFCOM will become a harmonized force made up of soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and civilians who excel at joint warfighting.
Together with the service headquarters and our interagency and multi-national partners, USJFCOM will achieve unity of effort to maximize our joint strengths. Not only will we be instrumental in winning the global war on terrorism, USJFCOM will anticipate and prepare for the future demands of the National Defense Strategy.
We are facing three major emerging threats, requiring us to be ready for three major forms of warfare.
Weapons of Mass Destruction: We must do everything possible to prevent the proliferation of these technologies and prevent their use. We must force ourselves to think the unthinkable, and be prepared to mitigate the chaos and destruction that would occur when one of these weapons is used, terminating any nuclear, chemical, or biological conflict as rapidly as possible.
Conventional Warfare:We face powers who wish to challenge us. These rising competitors have the resources to build large conventional armed forces fueled by powerful economies. We must maintain our conventional dominance - check-mating intellectually and materially any enemy who might consider taking us on in conventional warfare.
Irregular Warfare: We must move swiftly to make irregular warfare a core competency of the U.S. military. We must develop a mastery of irregular warfare comparable to that which we possess in conventional and nuclear warfare, leveraging our conventional dominance to asymmetrically improve in irregular war.
