Moron Meetup (New Posts Below)
— Ace

Sorry for the late notification. I'll keep this bumped all day until 5 to make sure people see it.

When: 4-7/8 pm Monday the 11th -- but Iowahawk has a previous engagement at 6... I'll hang out longer, but he is out of there at 6, firm. He may be back much later, but I don't know if I have more than four hours in me, personally.

Where: The Coliseum Pub at Columbus Circle. 312 W. 58th Street. I've never been there but seems okay. A review said it's behind the Time Warner Center.

3 1 Sorry Ace. I'll be porking hot Asian chicks at the Guggenheim. Posted by: Peter North at January 10, 2010 09:22 PM (GfYt/) Sounds more entertaining than anything that's hung at the Guggenheim in years.

Posted by: CoolCzech at January 10, 2010 05:25 PM (QECjC)

4 "porking hot Asian chicks" Is that like pork fried rice with General Camel Tso's Chicken?

Posted by: CoolCzech at January 10, 2010 05:27 PM (QECjC)

5 Of all days for my flux capacitor to go offline.  Otherwise I could have gone back in time a few hours and arrive on time.

Oh well.  Maybe next time.

6 Maybe the most sober attendee can live-blog it for the rest of us.  At least until the police show up.

7 Loose shit, ace.

Iowahawk has a prior engagement at six o'clock.

for the record, it's with me.

We're going to see the National Grange Tractor Pull NorthEast being held just outside Bayonne

10 Ace, seeing how I don't even know what you look like, how 'bout a pic? Or should we just look for the blonde-wigged tranny in lace stockings and killer CFM Shoes?

17 A question about Harry Reid:

Wasn't his statement describing "then-candidate Obama as a light-skinned African American with no Negro dialect whom many voters would embrace" mainly a putdown of citizens of this country as "racists", rather than demonstrating himself to be bigoted?

18 Or you could use bing to search for 'ewok' Posted by: John Galt at January 10, 2010 09:39 PM (Ylv1H) No lie. Maybe Ace should consider a blonde wig, lace stockings, and killer CFM shoes...

58 When I was a kid, you could not go down 42nd street.  Now it's the theatre district.  Things have changed a lot in NYC.  I went out to dinner with my cousin and his wife who lived in Queens 20 years ago.  She tried to credit
David Dinkins for the reversal in NYC's fortunes.  I almost spewed my tea at her.  I was like "Um, no, it was Rudy who really kicked butt and cleaned up the place."  She was like "Um, no Mayor Dinkins was the one who got the policies started."  I was like "Uh, no Mayor Dinkins didn't get re-elected, he was that bad."  She still tried to say it was him.  I just threw my hands up in the air.  Liberals will believe whatever they want despite the reality of cold hard truth.  Arguing with them is a total waste of time.

70 Posted by: runningrn at January 10, 2010 10:26 PM (CfmlF)

David Dinkins, according to my very good sources, did nothing but play tennis.  The city became nearly uninhabitable under his reign.  They couldn't get Rudy, the law and order republican (well republican for NY) prosecutor in there fast enough (despite a dem/lib majority).   Rudy single handedly, according to my very excellent sources, saved NYC and is the reason why it is thriving today.

learned a lot about NYC at that time from two people who were there.  They so agree with you and I passed along your "Rudy frickin' saved NYC from becoming a total Detroit East abyss" to them and they said "you must be brilliant to come up with such an accurate description".  They actually said "how frightening that would be but how close NYC came"

Why thank you, curious.  I lived in the Philly area til 1988.  When I was a kid we visited my great uncle and great aunt who lived in Manhatten several times a year.  I ran the NYC marathon in 2005.  I couldn't believe the difference in New York City from the 70's and 80's and 2005.  The weird thing was my cousin's wife was living there when Dinkins was mayor.  (Well, in Flushing Meadows, so maybe she was a little sheltered?)

Posted by: runningrn at January 10, 2010 08:05 PM (CfmlF)

78 My parents are from NY, so I've visited a lot.  One time in the 70s my Dad wanted to go to 42nd street, check it out, and get some deli.  My Mom told him "Uh, it's not like you remember".  We went anyway.  Human feces on the stairs up from the Subway, and I swear within a minute of hitting the street we saw a bum throw up in the gutter.

Yeah, it's a bit "Disneyfied", but it kicks ass over what it was, and what it could otherwise be.

Yeah, mainly, but the "Negro dialect" thing kind of implies that most blacks still shuck and jive.

It might eventually serve as a political ruse to allow Dems to continue to exploiting white guilt since we haven't had a real black guy in the highest office.

112 The hood just sucks, there is the Time warner center which is an aesthetic and functional crapfest, also there is nothing else around. I used to go to the coliseum for a last round when I was a drunk because it is right next to the A train.

Posted by: Ben B. at January 11, 2010 07:49 AM (dG72n)

113 nyc redneck-- I doubt it, sorry. you can email me to ask, and if there are people still hanging out I will tell you so.

114 NJConservative, We had to pick someplace convenient for Iowahawk, as he has a tight schedule. He needs to be in that area so that he can hang out for a while without getting into a cab or onto the subway.

I am calling BS.  Called up to bar to order them some free drinks.  Talked to manager.

Ace doesn't have a reservation, and as of 4:30 no geeky looking guy with a beard has shown up. Course in NYC maybe that defines the entire crowd.  It is the West Side.

I am thinking he and Iowa Hawk are shacked up somewhere.

The shame! They missed  free drinks.

"Where: The Coliseum Pub at Columbus Circle. 312 W. 58th Street. I've never been there but seems okay. A review said it's behind the Time Warner Center."

OK, my name is Barry Popik, and I have a "Big Apple Dictionary" website, and I once ran for Manhattan Borough President.

The New York Coliseum was a Convention Center that was built at Columbus Circle. It was a white elephant the moment it opened and it has been replaced by the bigger Javits Center (named after a New York Republican, if you can believe that). There was also a Coliseum Books store at West 57th Street and Broadway that existed for a long time; the once-popular bookstore moved and existed for a few years on West 42nd Street, opposite the New York Public Library.

The Coliseum was knocked down to build the Time Warner Center, a glorified mall with very expensive restaurants and shops, but a helpful Whole Foods store.

The Coliseum Pub is named for the ugly structure that is no longer there.

152 Just got back from the Moron Meetup.  Very nice, civilized normal bunch of lads and lasses, including several who claimed they "read blogs but don't comment."  What is this thing they call "don't comment?" If it's what I fear it is,  these people are sick, and really need some serious help.  That was a joke.

Ace really exists, as does Iowa Hawk, and they're nice too.
