(From "Yes" to "No")
— Ace Granny Rictus McBotoxImplants' charm offensive fails.
The Observer-Dispatch reports that Rep. Michael Arcuri, D-NY, who voted yes for the House legislation last November, is inclined to vote no this time.Though the House legislation was in many ways larger and more comprehensive, Arcuri says he doesn’t like the idea of a “mega bill,” and would prefer it be broken into pieces and passed step by step, he told the newspaper. He isn’t comfortable with the likelihood that the fixes to the Senate bill will be passed in the Senate using reconciliation rules, requiring only 51 votes as opposed to 60. And he doesn’t like those fixes – a tax on high-cost health insurance policies, for instance.
“There would have to be some dramatic changes in it for me to change my position,” Arcuri said.
That's not the hardest "no" I can imagine, but it's a no, at least for now.
Thanks to enoxo.
Culture of Corruption: A Democrat, Eric Massa, will not seek reelection, following charges he sexually harassed a male staffer.
Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) will not seek reelection — after only one term in office.According to several House aides on both sides of the aisle, the House ethics committee has been informed of allegations that Massa, who is married with two children, sexually harassed a male staffer.
Massa told POLITICO Wednesday afternoon that no one has brought allegations of misconduct to him.
Asked about the sexual harassment allegations, Massa said: "When someone makes a decision to leave Congress, everybody says everything. I have health issues. I'll talk about it [later].”
The good news: His seat is traditionally reddish, and will likely go Republican in the fall.
The bad news: He's not resigning, merely not seeking office again, so he will continue to vote for whatever Granny Rictus McBotoxImplants wants until January.
Flashback: He recently said anyone opposing Obama care was guilty of "treason."
UPDATE: [DiT] You remember when Nancy's awesomeness was going to bring about the age of enlightenment and wonder? Trip through this, it's funny as all hell. One of the bestest times we enjoyed ever.
Many thanks to Wiserbud for the tip.
Oh Dear: Massa Voted Against ObamaCare: So why did he say opposing it was treasonous? No idea, but here's his vote.
The fact that he's retiring makes me think he's a very very likely no-to-yes vote.
He says he's retiring for health reasons -- he does have Hodgkin's lymphoma -- but... I think that sexual harassment charge had to be a factor too. Which means, I presume, that he'll need to keep tight with liberal Democrats if he wants a cushy job as a lobbyist or bureaucratic appointee.

From the item:"Is this just sabre-rattling meant to give Gijalva leverage to make the bill more liberal? Is it kabuki-theater meant to make it easier for Blue Dogs to vote for a bill being attacked from the left? Or is Grijalva, like Dennis Kucinich, honestly opposed to the bill?"
Gee, how would any of this give Grijalva leverage to make the bill more liberal when it has to pass the Senate in reconciliation? Getting 51 votes again for the Senate bill as is would be problematic enough; pushing more "progressive" ideas into it via reconciliation is a self-defeating effort. Again: the House has to vote to approve the Senate bill as is before reconciliation can start. At that point, there's no House leverage, because if reconciliation fails, Obama can simply sign the Senate bill into law with none of the fixes the House wants.

Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that he has used "salty language" with staff but that it's not the reason he's retiring.
Massa announced he would retire from Congress after just one term, but said reports that he is under investigation for sexually harassing a male staffer are besides the point.
"There are blogs who are saying that I'm leaving because there are charges of harrassment against my staff," Massa said. "Do I or have I ever used salty language when I'm angry — especially in the privacy of my inner office or even at home? Yes, I have. And I have apologized to those where it's appropriate. But those kind of articles, unsubstantiated without fact or backing, are a symptom of what's wrong with this city."
Massa said he recently underwent his third major cancer recurrence scare, in December.
A 20-year Navy veteran who is married and has children, he was originally diagnosed with non-HogkinÂ’s lymphoma while he served in the military.
“I'm a very salty guy and a very direct guy, and I run at about 100 miles per hour," he said. "My doctors have made it clear to me that I can no longer do that."Posted by: Y-not at March 03, 2010 12:15 PM (Kn9r7)

Ordinarily I'd be surprised that a staffer would sue a Congressman for sexual harassment because he's a loudmouth boor.
But his staffer is probably a Democrat who would easily file such charges.
Random thought here: What if Massa used the "f" word to address a gay staffer? It would fit.

He was always going to vote for it--told a townhall last summer that he didn't care what his district thought about it. Read a link earlier where he said he ran for Congress specifically to implement a single-payer health system because of his cancer.

This is the biggest double cross in history ...
recon rules require that it be applied to existing law ... in other words the Senate bill must pass the Senate and Obama must sign it FIRST ... also the CBO cannot score any recon bill on the basis of possible law they can only score it against existing law.
This is nothing but a big double cross ...
The House votes yes on the Senate bill ...
Obama signs the Senate bill into law ...
and everyone "pivots" to jobs ...
Recon ??? what recon ... nobody is talking about recon ...

I think Lenny Bruce already covered this in his bit, "What I Was Arrested For." Hint: Bruce uses the euphemism "blah blah blah" as a substitute for the actual word that got him arrested, which was "c*cksucker."
Bruce to girl in audience with her boyfriend: "Excuse me, miss. Have you ever blah'd a blah? Oh, look, that's cute: she's shaking her head 'no,' and her boyfriend is nodding 'yes.'"

No he didn't use the term "reconciliation". Beck just said it. He used the term "I just want an up or down vote". Funny, isn't that what the Rs said when the Ds were blocking every Bush judicial nominee.
The new Dem talking point is to use "up or down vote" in place of "reconciliation" and never never use the term "nuclear option" that was used to describe the Republican plan that was stymied by the Gang of 14.
And I ahve already posted this onece, but the meme that Rs use reconciliation all over the place is Bullshit. There has only been one time that it was used for a non-budget thing that it was designed for and that was done by the dam Democraps in 2007 for the college welfare plan.

Heh. I missed that one. I wonder what Hairy Reid has to say about it ... Though, I think his problems with English stem from his Indonesian upbringing and schooling more than anything. He clearly doesn't speak like an American. The Precedent reminds me of the daughter of some Israeli friends of mine. She was born in the US and stayed here until age 5, or so. She speaks English pretty well, with an American accent, but after you listen to her for a while you can hear different accents that are lightly sprinkled around her speech and she doesn't understand or use English idiomatic expressions correctly. When I listen to The Precedent, his speech reminds me of hers. I noticed this back in the campaign and it hit me like a ton of bricks. The difference is that my friend's daughter is a decent person.
